Oh my soapy goodness! This is the first video of yours I've ever seen and I've watched a ton of soaping videos. I think RUclips takes a sabbatical when it shows recommendations for me. You had the best explanation of why lye burns your skin more than anyone else I've watched or talked with. I came over after watching Katie make her Sherlock Holmes soap with your imbeds and I was just floored with how they turned out. Awesome! Just subscribed and looking forward to watching the rest of your videos and reading your blog!
I'm so glad you found me! Take a peek at the SorcerySoap.com website, I have 100's of blog posts, free soap dough recipes and 5 Soap Dough books I've written. :D
I'm so glad you said that soap dough and cold process are the same until the end. I make soap and have been watching videos on how to make soap dough and I started to wonder if it is the same recipe. I'm so glad you sad that, especially in the beginning of the video. Thank you
Hi! I know you made this video almost a year now. I thank you for explaining how soap dough happens. I accidentally discovered how to make soap dough way before I saw this video. Thank you for explaining about it, it validates my process was in a right direction.😊
Hi. Thank you for explaining Soap Dough. I’m brand new to soaping & am watching lots of videos. I didn’t know you could be so crafty w/ soap. You asked about other soapers...The you tube channel of “Vicki Frost” is amazing. Her soaps are works of art and her attention to detail amazes me. She uses soap dough a lot in her masterpieces. 💗
Many thanks for this great video and explaining about soap dough, saponification and curing. It was easy to understand and I will definitely look for your books x
Thank you so much for all of your vital information I've learned so much...I use to make M&P soaps for almost 2 years because I wasn't able to get up enough courage to use lye. Now I can't see myself doing anything else. I'm still VERY cautious when I'm using lye because I have children and animals but WOW... It's a whole new world...It's so gratifying to know that I make soap from scratch, I actually make my own recipes to make soaps...it's really a big deal to me...now I'm going to try my hand at soap dough...I can't wait
Bea, can I just say how awesome you are! You're the type of artist I love. You're humility, love for what you do, and sense of community you promote is so refreshing, and often rare. Thank you for sharing yourself and your craft with so many. Happy soaping! Amy aka cactuslily
Wow! Cactuslily, you are why I make these videos. It's great to know you exist. Next time I'm going to think of you when I write or make a video... That I'm just talking with an intelligent and caring human. :D
What a lovely personality you have! So glad @CheekyGoatSoapery recommended you. I didn't have immediate plans to make or use soap dough (I do make CP soap), but now I think I have to. Yay Hogwarts!
Since I've found out about soap dough I've watched most of your videos and dug though every picture on your shop, and oh my god, I've hardly ever been more inspired by a soap maker! Yes, people do all sorts of beautiful swirls (and I've tried most of them already) but shaping soap like you would fondant (or gum paste or whatever, I've never gotten into fancy pants cakes) is something entirely new to me. I've since only tried making little roses and they turned out absolutely beautiful. Keep up your fantastic work, because it's unique and wonderful. Everyone can make a simple bar of soap, but it's the little bits and pieces that make you love each and every piece.
You are so right, making embellishments with soap dough is not necessary, BUT IT IS SOOOO MUCH FUN, it also personalizes our soaps. So I thank you for your e-books(a lot of fun to read) and appreciate you sharing your wisdom in them. This video is a very nice explanation concerning what soap goes through. Love watching your videos, so informative.
Excellent explanation of the process of saponification I have ever heard, clear & easy to understand, I’ve been a casual soap maker for a couple years & your video (of many other videos I watched) is superior! Thankyou for giving me the confidence to try something new and fun!❤️👍 I also just subscribed!
Thank you so much for information and guidance on this medium! I bought one of your books and have made my first white soap dough and it’s lovely! It is my own formula that I was only able to modify for soap dough after reading your book. I’m now looking forward to making all of my basic colors to start working with. Now I need to learn to let my creativity flow!
Thanks for being so good at reaching about what you do. It's wonderful to hear explanations of the soaping stages. I love your soaps and love your knowledge and your sharing it. You are the best!
Thankyou so much making the soap dough more understandable as I have made some and watch an other soaper who works with soap dough. I'm so in awe of your art of soap dough Vicki Frost was the first soap dough worker I saw but I didn't realise you had a site as even here in Australia people talk of you and your dough and art
I just bought your book yesterday and it's absolutely fantastic! I It's extremely well written and easy to understand. I can't wait to try this out!! Thank you. :)
You are so awesome... I could listen to you forever! My grandson LOVES chickens. He sleeps in his chicken costume...so you imagine my expression when I discovered your chicken soap and soap dough! Thanks for sharing.
You crack me up! I was hearing so much about your soap dough magic so I wanted to check you out. Thanks for the smiles...I love chickens, so I love your chicken soap!
Thank you for sharing your wealth of experience. I thought I had a good understanding of how lye works with the butters and oils but you made it so much more clear. I wish I would have found your channel years ago. Thank you and please keep up the great work.
You are amazing! I can't believe how willing you are to answer questions and help. So appreciated. I have both your books and love them. Great resources. I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you! Big huge thank you! I'm working on my 3rd book, A Complete Guide to Soap Dough Making and Molding. A resource of exactly, point by point, how-to with a ton of extras. So I've got all my bases covered. :) And, if I ever do teach classes on soap molding, I'll have a step-by-step to offer. I'm so glad you watched and found this video helpful, Lisa Barrett.
Thank you so much! I just made my first bar of soap today with soap dough embellishments! You are awesome and I appreciate your knowledge and creativity!!! Your work is amazing 🤩
THANK YOU SOO much. Very informative and greatly helpful. I knew all that stuff but when you explained it, it just became bigger and better. Thank you again.
This was a very informative little video. Now I kinda understand soap dough a little better. I think it is an interesting new mode to learning more about soaping. I look forward to more videos like this from your channel. I'm going to buy your book and learn a little more. I used to read a lot as a younger person, but because of my MS for some reason it is hard to concentrate and read long difficult subjects.I hope you'll continue on teaching us the process of making soap dough, for those of us who have a reason to not be able to concentrate for long periods of time.
OH my goodness, what a great explanation. I'm still sort of new at making soap, only since March of 2016 but I love it, tried all sorts of things, read stuff and watched tons of videos and not one ever went into the detail you did about lye, etc. Thank you for that.
Glad it was helpful! That is happy news. I have a few books as well, actually 5, on the topic. One is a host of soap examples, but in the others I go into more depth about soap dough. Thank you so much for watching!
Awesome info, thank you so much! I love love love soap dough, and have been very grateful for all the help I have found on your website and here on RUclips! I have been having soooo much fun playing with with soap dough, and I love it's texture and how it performs, and it's just the greatest thing ever! I just used up a batch of soap dough that had been sitting in baggies for about 6 or 7 months and it was just as nice as it was when it was freshly made! I also maybe made a batch that got a little bit warm during saponification, and was gelled slightly, but was ready for use immediately after saponifying, and had a great texture, whereas the ones that didn't gel were still way too sticky (all the recipe from your blog) It's been a super fun learning experience! Thank you son much for sharing your wisdom! 😘
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've subscribed and looking forward to watching your videos. I just got into soap making and am currently learning about soap dough. It opens the doors even wider for artist's creativity!
Omg! Thank you so much for posting this! I just posted a video on how I make my unicorn horn & ears! 🦄 I referenced you as the person to go to for more info and you posted this!!! Soooooo happy💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 love your work! 💕

You are a genius you have changed the whole soap game whe I was watching u the other day I didn't know u invented the soap dough that was my first time seeing it when u were speaking I thought u were gonna give us the recipe and I said to my self she should sell it duhhhhhhhhh of course she's gonna sell it your gonna make a nice piece of change off this and i am so happy for you the story about your grinding teeth I was like wow another person in pain but I'm happy for u and god bless.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I am hoping to learn more about soap dough and after searching and searching your name keeps coming up as the head witch!!! I look forward to watching more of your videos and I signed up for your newsletter the other day 😀
I just wanted to say that you are an amazing smart bright lady. And thank you so much for sharing all of this information. I've been making soap now for almost 9 years and listening to you is like learning something new. Everyday we learn something different. About a year ago I accident made soap that was too soft. I thought it was too soft. So I kept it in a container and made soap balls. It was pliable. Anyways I just wanted to share hay with you. Thank You😊
oh my gosh! Thank you SO Much for making this and for all you do in the videos - which I will be doing a binge watch by the way - this has opened up a whole new world for me and my creative side just did a happy dance watching this and listening to you and how you explain everything THANK YOU *hugs* as a new subbie I was watching your other video on the moon cakes and got side tracked by this one :)
That's good to know. I don't always know if how I understand something is how it CAN be understood by others. :) It's not scientific, but it makes sense to me and helps me create great soap, so it works on some level. :D
Thanks for your explanation on soap dough and how it works. I made soap with chickens and eggs on it two weeks ago. yours looks a lot nicer. lol thanks for all your inspiration
Good Evening Bee. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I have a question about your book on how to make soap dough. Can you tell me if you are about to print out the pdf book? Thanks again for the help :)

Thank you ma'am for this and all your others soap video..... 🙂..... maybe i can also learn how to design with soap instead of polymer clay since i can't buy any since i am not earning....... but at least i'll not only learn some new things and also designs that i can use on clay later, BUT also i will also have a beautiful bar of hand made soap too!
Thanks for the info at the top about the timing of the point at which molding is doable with soap dough. Somehow that was not cleared up as well as it should have been previously so mine was always sticky. Too sticky. Now I know why.
That's a great question. CP soap dough and m&p are two different animals. Soap dough is fully saponified, but is uncured and cures after molding and air exposure. M&P is melted, poured into shape and hardens quickly. Please, if you are interested read through the (over 300) blog posts or read one of 3 soap dough books I've written and offer at sorcerysoaps.com
New to soap making, found you from awesome Katie. This is the first video I've watched of yours. OMG you are awesome with information. If I didn't have to go to church this morning, I would watch all of these lovely videos today. Subscribing and I will be back.
My mind is blown! Thank you so much for this explaination...I didn't know there were such thing as soap dough until this morning when a video of a lady making unicorn soap with soap dough was suggested to me...and she put your name in the comment saying you were the queen of it! I can't wait to try it...it look so much fun! I have a question "dough" (see what I did there?) Once you are done with whatever little creature you do with the soap dough, will it cure nicely with all the soap bars or will it crack or something with time? (I am really talking about when the dough has been used and ready to cure along with the soap bars) Thank you!
I have just recently been blessed with a shop selling my soap. The problem is, the soap will be out in the heat of summer and I'm worried the melt and pour embeds are not the best choice. I want to try to see if soap dough is my answer! I think it just might be. Thank you so much
Hi Bee, Love, love ,love your videos and so appreciate you sharing your wisdom! Would love to buy your books but every time I try to checkout it says 'checkout is disabled'!!?? Don't know if that's something I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to figure it out? Thought you might have some insight to fix this!! Thank you! J.Overstreet
Jo, nothing wrong at all... The store is shut down while we are moving Sorcery Soapery to our new apothecary. ;) All will be well and open on Sept 11, 2017
Hi Bee. Hope u r doing good. I am your great fan & following u on Fb too. I really liked your video, just watched after 1 year 😁. As a beginner I'm facing acceleration in soap making by adding FO. So can't work further anymore on the top of the poured/settled soap batter. Even I have watched several soap makers who keep blending while mixing lye & oils, mixing huge amount of EO/FO & colors but noticed their soap batter doesnt get false trace. Is there any tip to avoid acceleration plz? One more question, suppose if I make cute things like u 🥰 in advance for decorating soap bar. So how can I keep those things? Wud u prefer to keep in a fridge or simply keep in the air tight container? Sorry for the long text 🙏😬
Great questions! I soap at temps of 80-100 F to help keep acceleration at a minimum. Also, using well behaved FO's. I don't keep any soap dough in the fridge. It stays if you wrap it up with plastic and put it in a sealed bag or a container. :) I hope this helps. I have over 300 blog posts if you'd like to peek through and also 5 books on the topic of soap dough. :)
I love watching your videos and seeing all your creativity, I've learned so much from you and also always looking forward to see the next video. I did buy your book and just love it. When I'm on Facebook and I have soaps I've done and I have soap dough figure on them people always as how I do it and I send them to your videos because you are the best teacher for Soap Dough. Thanks again for all your awesome videos and help you do for us...
Hi bee! I just got my soap dough in the mail today and am excited to use it in my soap batch tonight! Just for extra clarification, mushing the soap dough will get the water in the center redistributed for better workability? Love your videos and your page! Your aesthetic is amazing! 💝 keep inspiring!
Hi, so interesting! I already make soap ☺️Which of your books would you recommend teach how to make soap dough, and which recipe works better? I prefer not to use lard. Thank you so much!
Tuesday soap dough is made. Leave in the mold Tuesday - Thursday. 3 days. Now, if you can get this to exactly 36 hours (sleep/life) then unmold. If not leave for 3 days. Does that make more sense? One is minimum and the other is life days. ;)
You are so awesome. I absolutely love what you do. Just one question. Isn’t it easier to just use regular CP soap to make your Decorations or even melt and pour? ❤️😍
I'm not sure if this has been answered or not, but can I make a white dough and add my colors when I need them? Or do I need to mix the colors in right away?
@@sorcerysoap I had a feeling as I wasn't finding a lot of results for my question. Dang, I was hoping it could work like fondant, oh well, I colored them ahead of time 😊
@@codybrookehanson2346 If you need a specific color check Sorcery Soap website, we offer a variety of pre-made soap dough colors. sorcerysoaps.com/collections/soap-dough
Do you know if soap dough can be made with goat milk in the recipe? I make goat milk soap and have been watching Royalty Soap, Yellow Cottage Soapery and now I have found you (thanks to Royalty Soap). I realize my soap won't be the pristine white color (most of my customers prefer the natural color anyway) but I was planning on making little goats out of it to put on top anyway, so that wouldn't matter. :) Thanks so much for your vids!
That's a great question. I imagine it could be done. The recipe to begin with is important i.e. balance of oils/butters, hard soft... but most important to keep your soap from curing.
I was also wondering...when you put the dough designs on top of the soap..so you add them before they go through gel phase or after? When do you add them to the tops on the loafs?
Good question. I have found it acceptable to put freshly made soap dough embellishments on freshly poured cold process soap or put fully cured embellishments on top of freshly poured cold process. Because I don't gel any soaps, dough or bars, I don't know how embellishments stand up under heat it takes to gel. However, with that said, I have made cold process embeds (Koi Fish) and placed them in hot melt and pour as well as on top. The soap dough embeds and embellishments held put perfectly. I cannot post a photo here, but if you search "Koi Pond" you might find the example I made in reference. Hope this helps you Denise. If you need further help, please email me. :)
Oh,also...instead of pouring the "batter" into one mold and covering it with plaatic...can I mix several colors and put each color in a plastic container with a lid? Will that work too?
I asked in the group and some have gelled soap with embellishments in and outside the soap successfully. I do not have first hand knowledge of this performance.
Not at all. I do this regularly, get whim and not know what I'll use it for and then find the reason later. Cured embellishments seem easier to place, in some respects.
Just bought your Grimoire (An Enchanted Book of Peculiar Ideas and Soap Potions & A Soap Recipe Book of Light and Shadow). I was wondering if there is already someone specializing in allergen free soaps. Meaning they try to find formulas that work without one of the most common ingredients to make soap for people who are allergic to coconut oil, olive oil, or palm oil.
Teresa GG, you are the first person to call this book what it is. Well done. Please connect with me on facebook. :) Or join the Sorcery Creations group.
Hi Teresa, Bath Geek LLC (my new soap company) is exactly that, trying to make soap (and a LOT of other things) with 100% olive oil while still doing cool things with soap dough, piped soap, pretty swirls, bath melts, and hopefully eventually bubble bath. Right now in the early stages my bubble bath bars still use SLSa, but I am working towards removing that. The _ONE_ thing that I can't really help are people who are allergic to olive oil, since I have committed to using olive oil in everything. I will use some cocoa butter occasionally, especially when I absolutely need a hard oil.
Thank you so much! I just started making soap a few months ago and just found out about the dough. I love sculpting clay so I thought I'd give this a try
Forgive me if this has been answered, I just found you through Royalty Soaps. Do you have to do anything special to hold the pieces of soap dough together when molding it?
Yeah, this is awesome! i never knew this type of soap existed until this evening when i accidentally discovered your how to Video while searching for a Video on how to make natural soap icing. i am from Edmonton City, Canada. Have been creating a Soap Company for about 4 years now, yet have not sold any yet. Am perfecting my recipes and testing them on myself and close friends and family first. i am making small soap cubes in silicone ice cube trays, and use 100% natural ingredients. i strive to be Eco-Friendly with little or no packaging - such as plastic wrap - around my soaps. i find it disturbing that lot of soap icing or bath bomb /cupcake "frosting" recipes contain liquid soap. Do the creators of these recipes mean dish soap, which usually contains toxins? i would never take a bath with dish soap LOL! This is the most soap information i have "processed" - pun intended - in 4+ years. Thank you for the saponification lesson. This is why i buy local 100% natural melt and pour base soap in 1 pound blocks. The health store i buy from recently added Hemp Seed m+p to their line-up, and i have been enjoying that. The only problem is they wrap their soap blocks in plastic wrap. Wish there was a more Eco-Friendly way to buy simple m+p blocks. Marijuana has become legal in the Province of Alberta in the last year, so Hemp Seed is a great choice, since a lot of people seem to like the calming effects of Marijuana and Hemp in Alberta. i use Hemp Seed m+p in my lemon vanilla cake soap. i also use Ale Vera Gel m+p and Cocoa Butter m+p. After watching this, i have decided that living in a small apartment is not a safe environment to mix Lye soap from scratch, so i will continue sourcing m+p suppliers until i move to a bigger space (hopefully one day i make it big and can afford a 2 bedroom apartment or a small condo, because i went to Business College in 2019 and learned Marketing, so my goal is to be an Eco-Friendly soap store one day). if the m+p is already saponified, should i still take precautions and protect my eyes /skin when making a batch of soap? Some Essential Oils can be strong, like Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Cinnamon. Eucalyptus in large amounts makes my eyes water! Okay, so, enough of my babble! ;) Living alone gets boring, and connecting on RUclips helps. Thanks again for the info and GOD bless.
Oh yes, i forgot. Could you link other helpful how to soap making Videos if you reply? i need help with "icing" mu cubes and swirling, banding, etcetera...

Thank you I just bought some of the soap dough to experiment with it.
You are the best. I really enjoy the way you explain the process.
Glad it all makes sense. :)
Thank you for your video. You explained thing that I didn’t get from other videos.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I love your ideas and your artistry.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've subscribed and looking forward to watching your videos. I just got into soap making and am currently learning about soap dough. It opens the doors even wider for artist's creativity!

Just subscribed to you and loved this video. Great way of explaining terms and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thank you for taking time to comment. :) Making more and more... Soap, soap cookies, videos etc.
Thank
You😊
Thank you and truly happy to hear your soap was successful. I'm glad you wrote that... That you enjoy hearing me share. :)
oh my gosh! Thank you SO Much for making this and for all you do in the videos - which I will be doing a binge watch by the way - this has opened up a whole new world for me and my creative side just did a happy dance watching this and listening to you and how you explain everything
THANK YOU *hugs*
as a new subbie I was watching your other video on the moon cakes and got side tracked by this one :)
So many interesting things show up when sidetracked. I'm glad you stumbled upon this little bit of Sorcery.
Interesting.. thank you for sharing
Thank you for sharing, Bee! It is quite helpful!
That's good to know. I don't always know if how I understand something is how it CAN be understood by others. :) It's not scientific, but it makes sense to me and helps me create great soap, so it works on some level. :D
Thank You for Your Info💖
Thank you! This explained so much! Very helpful.
This is not a perfect explanation however it is the just of the idea and it doesn't lead you sideways. Thank you for watching! :)
Thanks for your explanation on soap dough and how it works. I made soap with chickens and eggs on it two weeks ago. yours looks a lot nicer. lol thanks for all your inspiration
I love you videos! Wonderful information. Keep up the great work.
I love this video thank you for this info on soap dough.
Gracias. Muy interesante.
Thank you💗💗💗💗 I'm a new soap maker and this was very helpful😊
Thank you so much for the great information! This was amazing!

You're most welcome
Very good video, thank you so much!
Thank you!
Thank you ma'am for this and all your others soap video..... 🙂..... maybe i can also learn how to design with soap instead of polymer clay since i can't buy any since i am not earning....... but at least i'll not only learn some new things and also designs that i can use on clay later, BUT also i will also have a beautiful bar of hand made soap too!
thank you for this great video Can you suggest a substitute for the lard please?
Lard substitution is difficult, however, I have a book with 10 vegetable based soap recipes. Take a look at SorcerySoaps.com
Thank you
Thank you so much for all your info! I plan on tackling soap dough Monday. I was wondering how long it takes to harden once you sculpt something.
Great video!
Thank you, that was very informative :)
Thanks for the info at the top about the timing of the point at which molding is doable with soap dough. Somehow that was not cleared up as well as it should have been previously so mine was always sticky. Too sticky. Now I know why.
Thank you for posting this! It's the one reason soap dough is sticky and I get more questions about this than any other.
I'm sure that was my fault for not being aware of the timeline. Got it now though!
Thx!!! Great info! 💕😁👍
I am a beginner of soap making, and I am currently using melt and pour. I was wondering if you can use soap dough on melt and pour.
Thank You so much!!!!
I was So lost, lol... But now I get it completely! Lol thank you so much! (Not everything lol, but at least this! Hehe)
New to soap making, found you from awesome Katie. This is the first video I've watched of yours. OMG you are awesome with information. If I didn't have to go to church this morning, I would watch all of these lovely videos today. Subscribing and I will be back.
Ah, thank you! :D
Thank you so much. This is a more fun way to learn then reading books😃
Thank you for saying! I'll keep making videos. :D
Oh my gosh! I'm so inspired to make another video now. Thank you for every single word. :D
Ok I got it now!
3 days? Or 36 hours? You said both and used them interchangeably
Tuesday soap dough is made. Leave in the mold Tuesday - Thursday. 3 days. Now, if you can get this to exactly 36 hours (sleep/life) then unmold. If not leave for 3 days. Does that make more sense? One is minimum and the other is life days. ;)
You are the best!
You are so awesome. I absolutely love what you do. Just one question. Isn’t it easier to just use regular CP soap to make your Decorations or even melt and pour? ❤️😍
All this is cold process. :)
I'm not sure if this has been answered or not, but can I make a white dough and add my colors when I need them? Or do I need to mix the colors in right away?
I prefer to color the soap as I make it. :)
This is great! Can’t wait to give it a try. I bought all your books
Any CP soap recipe is possible to make soap dough?
In theory, however, the right hard/soft oils/butters recipe is ideal to achieve a non-sticky smooth texture of soap dough. :)
Thanks! I'll start soaping soon and I have a lot of doubt
How fast can I used it to do embeds after 3 day?
Yes. :)
@@sorcerysoap thanks!
Thank you so much for replying! I'm going to attempt to make some dough tonight...fingers crossed lol
Oh,also...instead of pouring the "batter" into one mold and covering it with plaatic...can I mix several colors and put each color in a plastic container with a lid? Will that work too?
Yes, indeed. You bet. : )
I asked in the group and some have gelled soap with embellishments in and outside the soap successfully. I do not have first hand knowledge of this performance.
Is there any problem with making bunches of soapy characters and storing them until ready to use?
Not at all. I do this regularly, get whim and not know what I'll use it for and then find the reason later. Cured embellishments seem easier to place, in some respects.
I am going to the web site and it's saying this page can't be found? How can I get the book? Thank u

I can totally relate to you about soap. I got so excited. It’s my drug.
That is a great idea!
Bea: "I don't know everything about soap dough." Oh, yes you do! :)
Thank you. That answered a lot of questions I had. Also love the Hogwarts t shirt ;)
So glad to help! :)
To make the soap dough....Can you substutute the 3.2 oz of castor oil for either 3.2 oz of vegitable oil or olive oil?
That's a good question, it would depend on the over all recipe. Denise, write me and we can discuss your recipe. :)
I was thinking of using the recipe you have on your website and replace the castor oil for one of the other two
I would say, yes. That sounds very reasonable. :)
You bet! Water works perfect. Just paint some water and stick the pieces together.
I just love you
Yeah, this is awesome! i never knew this type of soap existed until this evening when i accidentally discovered your how to Video while searching for a Video on how to make natural soap icing. i am from Edmonton City, Canada.
