Thanks for sharing! Any chance the dough could be conditioned by mechanical means for those of us with hand issues? Like a pasta maker for example. Running it through rollers repeatedly. Would that work to condition it?
Does this work with every recipe or only specific ones? Sorry I’m new to soap making. It just looked like a cold process soap that you mold and soften by hand the next day.... does this also need to cure to be used as a soap? In which case is it no longer soft?
THANK you! I have to make ALL my soaps up to December because I'm starting my Master's program in September, and with 2 kids with Autism I won't have time to soap - DESPERATELY needed to be able to make my own soap dough for my overzealous Christmas soap lol! :)
Oh hi! I just happen to see your video and I liked how you teach how to make soap dough. I’m a frustrated soap maker and now I got so much inspired with your video. Thanks so much now I’m your new subscriber although it’s been 3 years when it was made. I hope you are still active and see some videos of you again. Warm regards💗
Great video, can't wait to try it, think I'll start with 1lb. What lye concentration are you using? Also, do you not use sodium lactate because it could cause the soap to be too hard and not as moldable?
Thanks! Honestly, I always run my recipe through Brambleberry's lye calculator so I am not sure what the lye concentration is. I choose solid soap, percentage, put in the total amount of oil I think I am going to use and enter the percentages per each oil; from there I adjust the amount accordingly and the lye-water amounts adjust automatically. Correct, I do not use sodium lactate when I am making soap dough because it will harden the soap. Take care!
I'm not aware of any other oil that has the same properties as palm oil. If you have a recipe that does not use palm oil you can use it to make dough, just follow the same steps after making your soap (cover it with plastic, knead it the next day, etc.).
You can try making soap dough with a small batch of your own recipe. Make it as you normally do and then cover it with plastic wrap and follow the same steps of kneading it a day or two later. I hope this helps, good luck!
Hello, after you make the dough you can make whatever shape you want; I usually let my embeds dry for a day or two before embedding them into soap. Let it cure for a few weeks, it will harden.
@@PinkDahliaCrafts lis'Sen, I did a batch today...when I tell you I messed it up worse than I can even explain...lmaooo...but the good that came out was it accelerated so quickly I ended up just practicing my piping. I think the clay I added messed it up...😂
It only needs to cure after you have shaped it into the shape you want. To keep it soft and pliable for a few months, wrap it tightly in plastic and store in a plastic ziplock bag.
Hello - the only thing that I know of that can replace the properties of palm oil is tallow or lard, both of which I have never worked with. If you sub any oils run it through a lye calculator to make sure you are using the proper amount of lye/water.
I want to try this!! I put the recipe in Brambleberry's calculator and it keeps defaulting to a 1% superfat. The water and lye come out differently than your printout. I don't see where it gives me the option to input a 10% water discount. Can you advise? Thank you so much for the tutorial!!!!!
I'm not sure why their calculator is defaulting to 1% when you choose 0%, but I think a 1% superfat will be ok. The water discount I did on my own. Just take the amount of water and multiply it by 90% or 0.9 and this will give you the amount of water with a 10% discount. Ex: 3.5 oz water X 0.9 = 3.15 oz The water discount is optional though, I just do it so the soap cures a little faster :) Good luck!
You can use either. I use organic canola oil - I think the difference is (for soap making at least) the high oleic is more shelf stable, it doesn't go rancid as quick as regular canola. I've never had a problem with rancidity though.
Could you tell us the "Water as a percent of oils" amount? I'm using the lye calc but I'm not able to find out how much lye and water are needed, I'm going to try this! I'm excited!! Hugz, Tree
It doesn't tell you??? That's weird, I am not sure what the percentage is for the water. Try the lye calculator on brambleberry: www.brambleberry.com/calculator?calcType=lye no super fat.
@@PinkDahliaCrafts Usually it's set at 38% but many people do a water discount and set it to 35, 33 or other %. I MADE SOAP DOUGH YESTERDAY! I squished and kneaded and wrapped it in plastic like you showed us. Thanks. So much! Ya made my day! Hugz, Tree
Bramble Berry's lye calculator will give you the lye amount and then give you a total of lye and liquid ( water, milk, beer ect ) amount. Just subtract your lye amount from the combined two amount and you have your distilled water amount.
I'm not aware of any other oil with the same properties as palm oil - you can try making soap dough with your current recipe, just follow the same steps after you make your soap :)
I’ve been making soap for years and I was today years old when I discovered soap dough! 😍 Thank you! I have a question about your containers. Can you share what they are and where you got them? They look really convenient and uniform and I need new ones. Thanks!
I've never tried it, but I'm sure if you place the soap in a container that just fits the amount of soap it should work. I hope that makes sense - if you have 4 oz of soap dough, I do not think a 1 cup container would be air tight enough.
At 1:50 I mention that while the lye water solution is cooling I disperse the mica colorants (the colors in the cups) with the oils I measured out to make the soap, this makes mixing the colors into the soap batter much easier.
Best recipe for soap dough I've used so far! Thanks for sharing your expertise! ❤️
Thankyou for such an easy soap dough recipe

No you can do it with your normal recipe.
Thank you so much for this video! I don't have rice brand oil, could I bump up the olive oil 5% to make up for it? Or would that not work?
This looks awesome! Thanks!
Thanky you for sharing!

What is the super fat(SF) %tage?
Ok, so can we just take a moment to appreciate that Stranger Things reference right up front?!? 👏👏👏
Hey what can I substitute canola oil with
Love the video !
Thank you!!
Do we need to keep the soap dough in the fridge or anything until we’re ready to use or can they just be left out wrapped up?
Just wrapped in plastic - I keep mine in a cabinet at room temp (no fridge).
Free, vegan and inexpensive. Thank you for sharing 💕
Any alternate to canola & rice bran oils plz? Rice bran oil is rarely available & too much expensive in my place. Kindly suggest. TYI

Hi. I do not have the rice bran oil can I use another oil instead?
Thanks . I make soap for gifts. I might have to try this

What oil would be a good substitute for the canola oil? Thank you.
Royalty Soaps has a recipe on her channel too ( in the link section ) - that's how I found this one. I don't want to use canola oil either.
I can't wait to try out this recipe!
Can i used pomace for the olive oil?
Can u make soap dough with MP base?
Thank you for recipe! Do you hear your oils? Thank you
Hello! Yes, I heat the coconut and the palm oil to measure them, but I usually soap at room temperature.
Can i just use one type of oil or do i need to buy several different oils?

Hi, the recipe it's good for a regular soap?? Or only for soap Dough??
It's good for both 😄
On soap calc what do you put in as the water as% of oils ?
I’m sorry, I missed where you mentioned the sf. What do you super fat the dough at? Does it matter?
Hello! I do not SF the dough, although I believe the Brambleberry lye calculator auto SF to 1%
Thank you SO much! Thinking of making some for my autistic nephew. Will this stay soft as long add its wrapped in plastic?
Thanks for watching! Yes, it will stay pliable for up to 2 months if wrapped in plastic 😃
Where i put the 10% of water discount .
As "Is water as % of oils." ???
Thanks
nice job, well done
Can we use something else than palm oil ?, Btw love This !
I'm not aware of any other oil that has the same properties as palm oil. If you have a recipe that does not use palm oil you can use it to make dough, just follow the same steps after making your soap (cover it with plastic, knead it the next day, etc.).
Pink Dahlia Soaps maybe lard or tallow as a sub? (I’ve never made soap dough...thank you for taking the mystery out of it for me!)
Hello, thanks for sharing the video. What about curing the soap dough? The CP recipe needs to be cured for 1 month.
Hello! Thanks for watching - after you shape your dough, you do want to let it cure for a couple weeks :)
@@PinkDahliaCrafts Thank you for the reply! I love your videos:)

Menards hardware store - the paint section 😃
So basically cold process soap? You just solved a bunch of creative ideas for me...can I use my own oil combo?
Yup, good ol' cold process. You sure can use your own oil combo, just make sure you run it through a lye calculator first. 😃

Does this soap have to cure for 4-6 weeks (wrapped up of course)?
It only needs to cure after you have shaped it into the shape you want. To keep it soft and pliable for a few months, wrap it tightly in plastic and store in a plastic ziplock bag.

What is the purpose of the silk?
It gives the soap a silky feel and a shinier look 😃
