    I would like to add, back in 2008 when I was putting a gt3071r on my car(1984 Jetta GLi with AWP swap) it was hilarious how people said it would never spool and suck, make now usable power, etc. years later the gt3071/gtx3071 are considered, as Dave said, an appropriately sized turbo lol. My how times changes.

    If you don't mind sharing, what kind of advance do you run on these at say 20psi on a 3071 for 91 octane? I'm considering trying to find a 1.8t a4 quattro and running about this sort of power/setup to start out. As my current never ending project I have a turbo m30 bmw in an e12 that i've done all the tuning myself running 25psi on 91+ octane booster on a 3582. I brought it all the way down to about 8 degrees to not get knock at peak torque with various different setups over the years and this has all been done by ear. I've never dyno'd it but it should be running 400-450whp it spins third at 55mph with 225s, i'll say i'm doing alright considering i haven't scattered it all over the road haha. Driveshafts and wheel hubs are a different story.

    I'm tuned through a custom tuner through Eurodyne Maestro. I have been using Eurodyne Maestro with my custom tuner for 4 years now, and have had zero issues. Before this, I was using OTS tunes from Eurodyne, and I had two turbos fail on those OTS tunes.
    I purchased the Eurodyne software back in 2017, for $700. They did not have the Powertap Air Flash device then, so every time I need to switch tunes, or log, I have to use my laptop. That is the only thing that sucks about this, in comparison to the COBB AP. I have the ability to purchase the Powertap Air Flash device, but it is $250, which kind of sucks, given those who purchase Eurodyne tunes now, get the Powertap Air Flash device free with their tunes, which are cheaper now too. I really think that those of us who have been with Eurodyne long before the flash device was out, should get a discount on it.

      It's the torque figures you need to watch not the horsepower, from what I read around the place 350HP is where the torque will be getting you near walking on thin ice. Save your money and don't buy maxspeedingrods parts man, buy quality so you only have to buy it once. With the high mileage engine it would be a good investment to buy some quality rods bearings rings and headstuds to keep it happy for much longer.

      @@COMotorsports In my experience with my 1.8T i ran the stock turbo, a GT2868, GT2871, and a GT2876. A friend of mine also had a Audi TT with a GT30something. I noticed with my 2868 that it spooled really fast but baked the tires every time that you laid into it but lacked some high RPM power. The 2871 and 2876 make good top end power but it feels like it takes awhile to build boost. The TT took even longer to make boost. My car made 280whp on the 2868, 350whp 320tq with the 2871/76 all at about 20-21psi with a Unitronic GT28 tune, 630cc injectors, and a cast manifold. My friends TT was 420whp. I was just wondering what your ideal street turbo setup would be for the 1.8T. It is not fun burning the tires off with huge low end power but it also sucks waiting for boost to kick in at 4500 RPM. I figured you would have a favorite in between turbo size that is fun on the street but makes respectable power still.

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Год назад +2

      It's mostly because of our fuel, however the IC and heat is becoming a problem which will make it worse as ambient temp goes up. As for what specifically the ECU's are different and sometimes it takes a different combination of things to be switched on and off for me to be able to tune it the way I'm most comfortable with. Unfortunately it varies a lot between ECU's even in MK4's so it's not a straight forward answer.

      You are looking at an aftermarket setup vs later platform OEM, and why does it matter? VW did what they did with the reasoning they saw fit. I assume that with a standalone ECU, troubleshooting the issues and tuning would have taken a fraction of the time. I'm all about using the stock hardware but the 20+ year old tech is showing its age and the BS checksum and flash times of the stock ecu is a time consuming process.
    I have looked into doing it myself with WINOLS but im turned off by the complexity of the maps and figuring out what does what and having to translate from German to English is just a PITA. I'm definitely going standalone when I'm ready to push for more HP. The initial higher price tag of the standalone will pay for itself when its time to get it properly tuned.

      I use Eurodyne Maestro to tune my 1.8T A4. It was tricky at first but they made it pretty simple. The maps are pretty well defined, although some are not. I'm by no strech a tuner but I took a mostly stock car and it now runs a bigger turbo, E85 and methanol injection. Never been on a dyno but appears to make about 300whp and torque to match.

      100% 1.8t in that case. Relatively easy swap, endless support for it, and stock engine can take 300whp.

    my 20v mk1 still running stock ko3 turbo, is 1bar or 20psi fine or too much? its just a daily driver not track or race car, ps rev limiter is set to like 6500rpm

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Год назад

      1 bar is 14.5psi...which is totally fine. 20psi that turbo basically running out of steam around there so not much gains after that.

    Guys, what's better for stock displacement 1.8t? Have a dillema between gen2 gtx 3071 and 3076, from pulsar. Do you know what's the rpm difference with spool? Aiming for +/- 500 crank hp :) Greetings!

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  9 месяцев назад

      It comes down to what the cars used for, what fuel is being used, if it's fwd or AWD and a handful of other things on what I'd recommend. In short, either turbo is capable of doing it.

    I know, that this can be a stupid question :P but are we speaking here about oem garrett gtx3071 or gtx3071 without brand behind? Asking cause a friend of mine is literally right before starting his setup up with "turboworks" gtx3071 and I'm curious can we compare those setups

    • @COMotorsports

      We use true Garrett most of the time. This one is a pulsar brand knock off. These are not your typical trash knockoff, we've been having good luck with them however longevity is still in question. Where a true Garrett shines is long-term reliability.

      @@COMotorsports I'm familiar with the Bosch me7.x series of ECUs enough to not need Eurodyne. ..just wondering what you changed is all. Thanks. Also wondering what timing was before you were getting corrections for knock. I think you mentioned the fuel being 91 octane up there in Canada. I can get 93 here in FL @ around sea level. ..Kinda wondering what the differences are with that also. like how much timing you had to pull back because of those limitations of fuel and altitude and what you ended up setting it at to finish the dyno sesh. like even show the maps and the changes you make, it would much more interesting to me atleast, if you went into more detail when you are tuning on the dyno and making the vids and all. you're doin alright tho because I still want to watch your vids. I have an ITS T3T4 50 trim with a .48 hotside that I'm thinking about using it on my stock 1.8t. Roughly how would you think this would perform? I'm thinking it'll spool pretty fast and still support 400whp when really pushed.
