  • I explored an abandoned citrus grove in the California desert. I spotted the shell of an abandoned building on Google Maps, and decided to go check it out.
My first impression was that it was some kind of agriculture project, because of the water reservoir remains on the property. But I assumed (wrongly) that it failed before really getting started, mostly because the cinder block building that initially caught my eye didn't look like it was ever finished. I'm still unsure if it ever was.
I checked the site out on Historic Aerials, which is where I got the overhead shot of the project in its prime. That's when I knew it was a success.
There was plenty to see here including nice gated entrances to the property, old foundations, an old building, a house trailer, some trucks, a tracked vehicle, and a lot of irrigation infrastructure.
Overall, it was a fun find.

What a nifty place. How quickly the desert takes back land.
