As if it isn’t already happening. That’s the problem. If there’s a rule it will be enforced onto all foreign money not just one person or one party. And what with the whole EU business. That’s literally “foreign” money. France is not Britain. It’s another country. No different than the USA is another country.

I have to say I do feel uncomfortable about the quantity of money that's being talked about.
It should be possible to push political ideas for a relatively small budget, and ideally an equal budget for all parties (although that'll never happen).
Putting a huge amount of money behind any given candidate, idea, or ideal will just supercharge support for that candidate, idea etc.
The output of that will be that for any political party to become electable they'll need to be able to raise a really significant amount of money, which in turn will mean the political donors will become ever more important.
Personally I feel uncomfortable about political donors having that much influence. I'd rather money was just kept out.

@@paulchambers6537 Nope, I do not agree with ANY party getting huge sums. We are talking £80 million here, let`s remember.
Instead I wish for fairness, then this is the system I prefer; the state public funding of political parties is designed to promote transparency, reduce corruption, and ensure that all parties have a fair chance to compete in elections. It helps to level the playing field and allows parties to focus on policy and governance rather than fundraising.
      For example
Australia: Parties receive public funding based on the number of votes they secure in elections. This system aims to reduce the reliance on private donations.
In doing this, you cut off the billionaire who wishes to open a coal mine, or fracking sites under your nose. The super rich do not remotely care for your ex-council house in Durham. If I partly base this on the several multi-millionaires I personally met. Granted the rich can help the poor, just tax them a tad more to do this (saves them the time).
