I think the way this was framed was not helpful. Many comments from people thinking that Labour are doing nothing about it when they have chosen not to act rashly and take the time to see if they should tighten funding restrictions and how exactly to do that. I have to say I do feel uncomfortable about the quantity of money that's being talked about. It should be possible to push political ideas for a relatively small budget, and ideally an equal budget for all parties (although that'll never happen). Putting a huge amount of money behind any given candidate, idea, or ideal will just supercharge support for that candidate, idea etc. The output of that will be that for any political party to become electable they'll need to be able to raise a really significant amount of money, which in turn will mean the political donors will become ever more important. Personally I feel uncomfortable about political donors having that much influence. I'd rather money was just kept out.
