Great review! This tablet will make an excellent gift for somebody.
I just got this as a refurbished device and I am very pleased with it. it plays all my movies. I had bought the smaller RCA Voyager Pro 2 months ago brand new and just a day later had to return it cause it would not even run any stock apps. this one runs everything and plays all. I did my research on all the RCA tablets prior, and I have big hands. but I am happy so far.
Had a few of these for a year already.
Plus:
- Battery life remains as good as the first day, six hours watching RUclips videos are needed to empty it.
- Sturdy case, has gone through a lot without getting a scratch.
- Inputs well made, nothing has come loose.
- Screen has not lost brightness, even though I keep some always on (surveillance system).
- It's proven highly adaptable, basically runs anything you throw at it --even the apps that say "not compatible with this device" run if you get them from APK Mirror or other such places.
Cons:
- The cameras seem to get worse with usage.
- The speaker vibrates a lot, useless to listen to music.
- Replacing the screen cover is a pain, impossible to get rid of all the bubbles.
- Keyboard's touchpad is always in the way, and typing lags a lot when you're a fast typist.
- The magnets keeping the tablet joined to the keyboard seem to lose strength, so now if I don't want to have the video interrupted, I better take the keyboard off or use it as support.
- You have to buy things exclusively made for this tablet: screen covers, carry cases, etc. because its size is non-standard.
Overall, the best bang for the money. I paid $138 CAD for it (about $110 USD) and it's served me well. It's not a laptop killer, because like all tablets it cannot truly multitask, but I've actually redacted fairly complex documents and spreadsheets using it.
And yes, of course, it's unusable outside on a sunny day. But that's the case with most laptops, nearly all flat screen TVs, and absolutely all projectors.

I got this tablet the other day and I'm quite surprised at how well it works. I was joking to someone when I said "you know RCA makes the best tablets". I didn't even know they made them. Anyway, I use it mostly as a security center for the cameras around the house and it works perfect.

So i just bought one of these. However when i unboxed it trying to make use of it, my tablet came with no wifi/data mobile button/icon for me to connect to my wifi? what do i do!!!!
How do you use the USB port to load documents and is there a Document folder area? When I plugged a thumb drive into the USB port it only asked if I wanted to use it for extra RAM or something.

The SD Card you are using the correct version it maybe you need to use a certain card make or format it before use and it can be the type of application that will be movable or more likely the app needs updating to fix that problem or the firmware update os that is another thing?
Can you tell me what items to buy to watch videos saved on this tablet and show on my TV, without an internet connection? like is it a micro hdmi or an adapter.? Please help. (p.s. I download them from home by wifi from Netflix, and then would like to show them on a TV elsewhere that has no internet in house. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I recently purchased from Walmart @$79.99, picked up on 4/1. On 5/5 my screen stopped reacting to screen presses/gestures; only spotty unusable response. I've gone above and beyond in trying to resolve with reboots etc. I'm now in contact with RCA support. We'll see how that goes. In the meantime my satisfaction level has really dropped. I hope it isn't going to remain a "boat anchor".

Love the video! Question: I have an RCA Viking 2 10in. About the adaptors- do we have to use the pin type adaptors that come with it? Or can we use regular tablet adapters to charge from the USB flat port?
You can use the micro USB to recharge the tablet, i'm not sure about the regular usb though.
+Underground Tech Thank you bro! To be more specific, the charger that comes with RCA tablets as you know is the one with the pin-type adapter on one end (5V and output of 1500mA). So, can I use a micro usb charger which has an output of 1.5A or 2A? Like charging other tablets.

I think the Viking 10 is way better then a desktop computer or laptop.I like windows 10 but the app store stinks! I suggest getting it as a computer , unless you want 3rd party downloads which isn't a decision for me in buying a computer! Anyway great vid!

I too bought the RCA 10 Viking Pro, back in November 2015 and around February, I started having problems with the touch screen, sometimes it will not react. By April the tablet would not react at all to the touch swipe only keyboard activities. I reported it earlier this month, and was given a Preauthoization code to use. It gives you a video to fix the problem. It did not work for the screen defect. However, it does not give a address to send the tablet.

Hello again. Sorry to bother you, but I just recently purchased this tablet and I am so happy with it... For the most part, but I'll get to that in a second. Firstly, I want to thank you so much for making these kinds of videos, because without them, I wouldn't have ever found the Viking Pro and for what I use it for (writing on Gdocs) it's a wonderful little productivity machine... Most of the time.
Here's what I wanted to ask you.
I believe I may have a defective model, though I'm not sure if it's the tablet or keyboard. Either way, I wanted to confirm with you that this issue wasn't just a "cheap tablet" issue before I go ahead and replace the product.
While working with the Viking Pro, did you ever have trouble with the keyboard randomly being disconnected?
Mostly the keyboard that came with my tablet disconnects when I "close" the tablet up like a laptop or "open" it. Tilting the screen back or forward tends to disconnect the tablet from keyboard randomly and I can't figure out why. I assume it has to be a defective model if this isn't just the case with a budget tablet.
Can you confirm with me if this is a defective item or is it a tablet design flaw?

No problem, It depends on how far back you're tilting the screen, but it seems like a defect issue with the connectivity. I'd get a replacement if I were you and see if that solves the problem.

I don't know who told you that because I've never had or seen a low end tablet get a firmware update before (Lollipop -> Marshmallow)

Hey man my girl just got this tablet and we have encountered a few app issues. She wanted to load the weather channel app and ms word. Does the device have to be rooted and if so what is the best way to root this device to make sure it doesn't constantly crash

Well you don't have to root the tablet and I recommend you don't because I've heard from a few people that rooting only brings other problems. my suggestion is to use 1 application at a time and make sure nothing else is running in the background.

Appreciate your taking the time to link it. I looked at these. I once had a similar Fintie case on another device and it really wasn't very protective. I'm looking for something which will be more impact-resistant and protect an investment into my device(s). My phone and other devices all have something with rubber bumpers on them. They can take a ground level (holding it normally) drop or other abuse without breaking.
I've looked at this device. And while its capabilities are really good for the price, it is a little bit cheaply made. It seems very prone to cracking with slight pressure or impact.
I do not want to buy a smartphone, but want something that I can take still pictures on for Craigslist postings. A good camera. Also MS Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel would be great too. Something that doesn't cost much too and is portable. Do you know a tablet like that, with a good camera? Or maybe something like a tablet? I'm not a high tech person so not sure what my options are. my camera facing out is pretty good but the selfie camera is terrible. Im having to replace the touch screen where they crack very easily . i dropped it less than 2 feet and it landed on its corner and shattered the touchscreen. i was nodding out and there it went. so be careful not to drop them. but got a replacement touchscreen for less than $20 on ebay.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 10.1 that I would love to be able to use a stylus with. I've bought an S-pen and a regular hard tipped stylus and I don't seem to be able to write with them on my tablet. I've downloaded several apps i.e. diaries, the s-pen apps but I just can't seem to find out how to get them to work with my tablet. Can you please recommend either a video or app that would show me how to get them to use my stylus with for writing and/or drawing. I just don't seem to be having any luck with this. Buy the chrome cast. Since I have an iPad, I use an Apple TV to stream videos. Chrome cast is a lot cheaper (I think it's like 40 USD) though.
I have and mine works fine
I used a mini hdmi to regular hdmi cable from Best Buy that cost about 15 bucks to cast the display to my 55" TV and it worked great.

Interesting, so it looks like it's a lot similar to this one in the video, with the same specs just less storage and the reason they did that I believe was because it has android Marshmallow on it which you can transfer apps to an sd card just like the Viking Pro II
Is there much difference from the Marshmallow processor vs the Lollipop? Walmart has the Marshmallow one as well for $98.
***** the only difference is the firmware, Lolipop vs Marshmallow. the most important difference i know is that in Marshmallow you can transfer applications to the sd card so that's why there's less space.
