The NFL just needs to have no defense on the field for every possession. They already neuter the defense enough, so why not go all the way and get rid of them entirely? The league thinks offense is the problem and not the massive mediocrity they allow to fester throughout, so it'd be totally on brand for them.

The NFL needs to stop persuing a safer game. They either make the game more dangerous unintentionally or they make the game boring by trying to take any and all contact off the books. They think more scoring will make the game better but thats not really true to a degree

I'm gonna tell you something that will BLOW your mind. You know those players on your team? They're actual living breathing human beings! I KNOW RIGHT? I had no idea either! But apparently they're not just video game characters destined to suffer for our enjoyment.
@@murrethmediaThe issue is the game is as safe as it gets within the rules. there’s not much you can do within the rulebook to make the game safer. Point being- this rule change wont change the fact that players will get injured when hit/hitting. It’s a major contact sport and unless you take all contact out of it, small tweaks like these wont do much in the big picture. just confuses the players and officials even further
@@murrethmedia exactly, which is why the NFL needs to get out of the way. In case you couldn't read, I said they make it inherently more dangerous by trying to implement asinine rules. When you hold back because you're trying to avoid a flag, you only end up hurting them worse or sometimes even yourself. I take the example of the NHL discouraging fighting. On the surface it looks like the right thing to do, but as a result of refs getting in the way, players are hitting other players much harder and dirtier because they can get away with it. So do we take away contact? No, because then the sport doesn't exist. It's good to have some safety rules, like not lowering the head because that's a good rule. But by adding too many things that cause people to second guess how they hit each other during the game, they just end up hurting each other more often and themselves especially. Why do you think there's been so many ACL and hamstring injuries? They're pulling back and it's straining their legs. Think before you just assume I want meatheads to take each other's heads off

Just one problem: the "happy ending" itself could easily become a Roughing The Passer penalty unless that particular QB is more into _firm_ _handling_ than others. It could mean the difference between a pulled groin and _a_ _pulled_ _groin_ in a debate that's already about supposed player safety. I'm sure the league will review that portion after this season is over and also conclude whether or not the "results" from the QB are to be considered "an outside prop" like sharpies or thrown towels.
Plus, the repeated cleanup afterwards may result in games taking way longer. Especially when soreness sets in during the 4th quarter and each one takes longer and longer to reach. And if there's one thing the NFL takes more seriously than player safety, its games running too long!
The fact that is is plausible upsets me greatly.
I'm a Browns fan and in our case these are gold.

In all seriousness though, this new rule does make it VERY hard to make an efficient chase tackle. Which happens way more in football than rugby. I understand the reasoning regarding injuries but this makes effective defence an increasingly nightmarish prospect. And that's before even taking into account that every single defensive player has played and been coached a certain way their entire careers and now suddenly have to change. Unreasonable.

Here's the problem with the new rule it's completely vague and up to ref interpretation, i.e.,

@@kurtpunchesthings2411 I love both for different reasons. But if be lying if I said that the violence wasn't a big part of my enjoyment of both. I don't want to see people get hurt necessarily but without the hits, neither game is the same. But times change. The players at the top level of both sports now are so big, fast and strong, if the rules (laws for rugby) don't evolve, chances are someone's going to fucking die. And that's an unimaginably horrible thought.
@@kurtpunchesthings2411 that's what makes the two sports different. The best way to compare the two sports (plus soccer) is to look at track. Soccer is more like a 5K race. Decently paced but overall longer and far more drawn out. Rugby is more like the 800m. Fast but more sustained. American football is like that of a 100m sprint. You go all out for a few seconds and then stop for a little bit of recovery.
