This is the longest video I've ever published to RUclips, and I still feel like it's barely scratching the surface. The entire history behind this conflict is profoundly deep and complicated, so if you'd like to watch another 1-hour documentary covering all of the previous wars and conflicts between Israel and Hamas that led up to what's happening today, I encourage you to watch this video next on Nebula - nebula.tv/videos/reallifelore-modern-conflicts-israel-and-gaza-before-2023.

Around the 20 min mark, you note that Hamas had a "decisive victory" in the 2006 election. However, they received 44.45% of the vote and won 74 of the 132 seats, while Fatah received 41.43% of the vote and won 45 seats. While the seat differential is notable, I think it's important to point out that they were only a few percent more popular than Fatah, and never had majority support from Palestinians.

This video is +- correct but ignores multiple facts to make Israel look bad. Fore example, it ignores multiple assault to Israel from Golans and "West Bank" (its Judea and Samaria if you ask me) between 1948 and 1967. It ignores that Israel windrow from Gaza was not only fore security reasons but as one sided peac deal to reduce arabic radicalism and as 2 state solution demo. Also it do not mention multiple terrorists attack before gaza blocked.
Also multiple Israel peace negotiations rejected by arabs including "2 state solution".
Also just spends much more time saying about stragle of arabic citizens and using emotion epitets to this and "think about children" but practically no worlds about Israeli who are living under constant terrorism treat now and was just under constant artillery fier and treat of total war. And i can see same algorithm in his other videos.
So i think that autor is trying to be objective but cant recognize that he is biased or he is just very good propagandists who do it intentionally - trying to pretend be balanced and so absolutely truthful source while harming Israel image in eyes of pro-Isreal and neitral public.
And all this is only in first half couse i do not bother look it longer.

      @omrikatzav 5 месяцев назад +98

Actually, watching the piece, the context it provides is too unbalanced, which makes it... out of context.
I watched the entire thing. Very informative. Watching it at first, I noticed some omissions that I thought were probably the result of a 100 years of conflict being condensed into a 1-hour piece.
But the more I watched, the more I realized these are not just video length-based omissions. In fact, these omissions come with the very problematic side effect of misrepresentation. Given the amount of detail and information in this video, it's hard to see how this could be done without your awareness.
      A few examples:
Misrepresenting the connection between Iran and Hamas, explaining it as a mere timely convenience. While Iran has supported Hamas with millions and millions of dollars, training its elite forces, providing it with lethal weapons, and a lot more. Most importantly, the "Octopus paradigm" explains its foreign policy in the area, such that Iran sends its tentacles via Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in an attempt to encircle Israel with unbearable threats.
The relationship with Hamas and Fatah is shown to be almost that of competing political parties, while in fact, it's a very bloody relationship. When Hamas won the election in Gaza, it didn't just win against Fatah; it eliminated its supporters, throwing them from rooftops and killing them.
Israel did not move out of the Gaza Strip only for economic and security reasons; that's absurd. It was a one-sided attempt by Israel (supposedly by the US) to cease its governance over the Gazan people. It was highly controversial politically, had very high costs, and the small side effect of a modern state evacuating its own citizens forcefully. The Israeli people learned quite a lesson there, shown partly in article 5.
The repeated refusal of the Palestinian leaders to negotiate any peace offerings.
And finally, you ignored an amazing amount of aggressions committed by both Hamas, Fatah, and Jihadist Islam groups. With over 24,000 rockets shot at civilian targets since 2001 from Gaza, around 8,500 of them since October 7th. With around over 70 successful suicide bombings out of the three groups, and hundreds of unsuccessful ones since 2001 (not including many more suicide bombings occurring before 2001). All directed against the civilian population, of course. Notwithstanding, looking at Hamas's official charter of murderous anti-Semitic claims (recommended read), and I'm keeping things very short.
Without claiming it explicitly, you gave the impression of a complete oppressor-oppressed relationship, in which the Palestinian people are a freedom-seeking one, brutally stopped by Zionist cold-hearted actions.
Just for the sake of anyone reading this and looking for more, I suggest asking a simple question (which wasn't answered in the video) as to why - why did Egypt join the blockade on Gaza?

Out of curiosity, can you tell me your unbiased opinion? I'm not looking to criticize or argue, only to understand. Do you think Israel shouldn't exist? Are you Shia or Sunni, or another branch of Muslim, if you're a Muslim? Do you think Iran should be trying to unite the Arab/Muslim world under a pure theocracy, with Muslim religious leaders at the front, or is it better to have commerce at the forefront of a country? what are your thoughts on what the west usually describe as terrorism and terrorist attcks? Do you agree or disagree with the terminology used? do you think that there are better ways to be noticed by a wider community, that doesn't involve death? Or is this the only way that people are able to be recognized in a wider community?

    • @hazemraad3723
      @hazemraad3723 4 месяца назад +47

@@xsaxia2008 Okay where to begin.. Do I think Israel shouldn't exist? I do not think that Israel's existence in itself is the issue, I think it's the form of that existence that is what's problematic here. Do I believe an entity that targets civilians with air raids of dumb bombs should not exist? I absolutely do; Is that a call for its obliteration? It's absolutely not, it's a call to stop targeting civilians with air raids of dumb bombs. In regards to my religious background, I find it very interesting that you never asked about whether the religious component of my identity would be represented in my answer to begin with; i.e. you never asked whether my believes impacted my thoughts or not, and they do not, hence I do not believe it is relevant to at all to your questions. As for whether Iran "should" or "should not" be trying to unite the arab/muslim world under a pure theocracy, in the most abstract terms there are, it is legitimate for each and every state to have its regional ambitions as long as those ambitions are in line with the benefits of everyone in the region. The means of achieving those ambitions should always be closely inspected, and I do not agree with the means Iran is using to promote for its regional ambitions. This being said, I also do not agree with the way Turkey or Saudi Arabia or the UAE or even Israel are promoting their regional ambitions either. It's a clusterfuck of who's who in this game of thrones of the 21st century in here. To have the commerce -by which I assume the economy- at the forefront hasn't led this region to democracy, you have to also understand. Some of the most successful economies around here are the KSA's and the UAE's, and I don't need to tell you about their human rights records, just ask Qatar. Oh, and there's Qatar. On terrorism; The entire paradigm of war on terror that was a direct result of the 9/11 attacks is largely a repetition of the paradigm of the war on drugs started by Nixon himself. It's war on an undefined entity via undefined means, with demand that only grows larger as you disrupt its supply chain. I would have loved it had it been labeled as war on radicalism; oh my god that would have been the dream. But no, terrorism is a much more vague term that can literally be applied to anything. Finally, your last couple of questions on being noticed by a wider community. I do not think you understand how little it means to those committing so violently to their causes- how little it means for them to be noticed by a wider community. They are not doing it for visibility. It is not a publicity stunt for them.

@hazemraad3723 Fascinating. I apologize for assuming that your beliefs affect your ability to rationalize actions of others. I know there are a few groups such as Houthis and Hamas, and probably Iran too, that advocate for the destruction of Israel regardless of what Israel does or doesn't do, which is why I wanted your opinion on that topic. I do understand that every state has a "right" to have their own ambitions, and maybe I phrased the question poorly. I think your answer does answer the question I should have asked. the only thing that I don't quite understand is why people would resort to what the US call terrorism (i.e. intentionally attacking civilians) if it isn't to make a statement. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer everything, and I absolutely with you the best. Much love from the US ❤️

Yes Egypt is a party to the blockade of Gaza but in the current context this is only being criticized as a barrier to the #1 desired end plan in the Israeli war (mongering) cabinet of pushing Gaza's population into the Sinai dessert. In the context of aid - Egypt would allow all supplies in however if not agreed and inspected by Israel, the Rafah crossing will again be bombed by the IDF - so Israel's blockade and current siege also encompasses the Rafah crossing.

you are only crossing off the bombing from one side in fact. You cannot complain about what the solution is not without acknowledging whow these wars always start. Namely with the palastinians stating some kind of attack. There is no point talking about the benefits of a ceasefire or peace when you know it is always one side that initiates the conflict. You dont set the seeds for radicalizing the next wars pool if you let Israel finish off hamas. Which the world NEVER ALLOWS. So don't tell me what is proven not to work.
An unbiased teaching of WW2 would suggest the vastly unbalanced civilian casualtiess in germany for instance, to be an act that made the US and Britian the evil "side" or that we were evil to drop the bombs that ended the war in Japan. Those bombs did not "sow the seeds for the next war"
If the palastians were actually occupied it might make a difference, but they are not. They dont want a 2 state solution. They have been offered it over and over again and have refused. They want Israel destroyed. That is what they voted for. That is who represents them overwhelmingly.@@liminallilac

so, israel did cease territory for the sake of land, proof of this also being that israel immeadietly began building settlements in sinai once they conquered it, very characteristic of a settler colonial ethnostate

I don't think this viedo is perfet...
You don't have to agree with me, but I believe that the Israeli perspective is not fully understood by many around the world. Understanding this perspective is in my opinion important, not only that you could have better judgment of the situation, but also if you want to change the mind of the Israelis themselves.
So here is my rebuttal to the video, from the viewpoint of someone considered a secular, Tel-Avivian centrist in Israeli politics.
3:50, the claim that Israel gave Palestinians a 24-hour notice to evacuate is a misinterpretation of the Israeli warning, that was propagated through the media. In reality, Israel provided the Palestinians with several days to leave northern Gaza. Even after the commencement of the ground invasion, Israel periodically opened safe corridors out of northern Gaza for a few hours.
16:35, Netanyahu's justification for delaying the Oslo Accords was twofold. First, there was the continuation of terror attacks against Israel, (albeit at a decade low), which directly contradicted the terms of the agreement. Second, was the Palestinian refusal to cease incitement against Israel and, specifically, to amend the section calling for Israel's destruction in the Palestinian National Covenant. For that Netanyahu famously said "If they give, they'll get, if they don't, they won't".
Furthermore, between Netanyahu's terms in office (1999-2009), at least two centrist/left-leaning Israeli governments attempted to revive the Oslo Accords. The Barak government (1999-2001) made efforts at the 2000 Camp David Summit, which, according to Israel and supported by President Clinton, was foiled by the Palestinians. Subsequently, the second Intifada (which in Arabic as you said may mean "civil uprising", but in Hebrew means "suicide bombers everywhere") in 2001 halted the peace process. The Olmert government (2006-2009) proposed an independent Palestinian state including East Jerusalem, but, as per the Israeli narrative, this offer was met with Palestinian stalling.
18:00, I have a problem with the settlements as well.
18:50, You completely overlooked the ideological motivations behind Israel's 2005 disengagement from Gaz. Many in Israel, (including most of my family, I was a kid) especially on the left, hoped that this move would rekindle peace negotiations (which it did to some extent). That is why the election of Hamas in 2006 was such a blow.
19:40, referring to Fatah as 'secular' is very a relative statement.
21:00, it is important to note that while Fatah recognized Israel's right to exist within the 1967 borders, they did not relinquish the claim for the return of all refugees from the 1948 war and their descendants to Israel proper. This stance implies that the two-state solution would end up as the two Palestinian states solution, as the refugees' return would potentially make Palestinians a majority, or at least significant minority in Israel proper.
22:10, the purpose of the Israeli siege, whether solely to prevent Hamas from acquiring advanced Iranian weapons, or also to exert pressure on the civilian population, is complex. Some politicians have said that applying pressure on Hamas was part of the rationale, though this was never formalized as official policy. Also, the predominant view among the Israeli military leadership was for the most part that a prosperous Gaza would be less inclined to engage in hostilities against Israel. The translation of this philosophy into actual policy on the ground, and whether the siege was an unintended consequence of the military blockade though, is beyond my capacity to deduce.
27:00, Trump's recognition of Jerusalem is much more nuanced and somewhat contradictory. It declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but also suggested that East Jerusalem should become the future capital of Palestine in the future.
32:00 (Nearly) everyone in Israel, including most of Netanyahu's supporters, didn't truly believe that Netanyahu would annex the Jordan Valley. I recall how, while the international media watched in horror, counting the days, the Israeli media did the same, but mockingly (from Netanyahu's left and right).
37:00 I struggle with equating the annexation of the Golan Heights from one of history's most malevolent regimes (the Syrian regime) during a war initiated (Israel attacked first, but after months of increasing pressure) by Arab states, publicly aiming to destroy Israel, to Russia's invasion of a neighboring peaceful state.
40:30 I don't believe that Arab states' reactions have ever been the primary factor in Israel's international deterrence. Its ties with America and Europe have always been more significant. Additionally, acknowledging Palestinian animosity and terrorism as major obstacles to peace, the relations between Israel and Arab states could significantly contribute to fostering peace. For Hamas, however, the possibility of peace is just a further incentive to attack Israel.
52:00 It's accurate that demographic shifts are nudging Israel towards more religious and right-wing tendencies, but this trend is also driving many soft right-wing voters, particularly Netanyahu's supporters, towards the left. Netanyahu's "magic" was to bring together moderate and extreme right-wing voters under one coalition. He began losing this ability, which partly led to his loss in 2021, and recent polls suggest, especially after the recent massacre, he has entirely lost this ability, (at least for now).
58:30 It's difficult to predict what Saudi Arabia might demand from Israel once the war ends. The Arab world's rhetoric typically changes post-conflict compared to during active conflict with Gaza. This war's scale might be too significant for a quick reversal, but post-war interests are likely to remain consistent with those held before the war.
Additionally, an overlooked point: Israel has consistently stated it would end the siege on Gaza if Hamas disarmed. And there are many claims that there have been advanced discussions on this topic. Saudi Arabia and Egypt are extremely furious with Hamas for ruining all of that.
I believe the video's main point, that the attack was intended to halt Israeli progress, is incorrect. I think this action was aimed to disturb the burgeoning peace between Israel and the Arab world, because it could extend to peace with Palestine - which is what Hamas truly fears.

Good video, but it is missing some key points:
    1. Peace talks between Israel and PLO continued throughout the late 90's and only ended in 2000, with the burst of the second Intifada. This round of violence had led both sides to change their view and got the Israeli government to no longer consider Yasser Arafat a partner. There were more talks in 2007-8, but PM Olmert's resignation due to his trial, led to Netanyahu beeing reelected (getting a small majority in parlament. Israelis vote for parties, not directly to the PM position) and a change in policy.
    2. In fact, Netanyahu (as well as Smotrich) had openly stated that he'd rather keep Hamas in power while going through short wars that end in a temporary settlement with them, than going into peace talks with their political rivals. This approach had been heavily criticised in Israel across the political spectrom and was utterly proven wrong on October 7th 2023.
The only break from this policy in the past decade, was during the year and a half when the Lapid-Bennet coalition was in power, and Israel went back to work closely with the Palastinian Preventive Security. Things returned to the previous state with Netanyahu back in power.
    3. Over the past year, there had been mass demonstrations in Israel against Netanyahu due to his refusal to step down while going on trial for corruption (which is what Olmert did), as well as his controversial choice of cabinet. This increased with the current government pushing for a change in judicial system, weakening the Supreme Court's abilty to stop government actions that might be against the law (including international law). As part of that, many experts warned about the effect this could have on the preparedness of the Israeli army in case of war. Hamas stated this as a factor for the timing of the attacks, though they misjudged the willingness of HIzbullah and Iran to support them in the fight itself. They also failed to achieve much support from Israeli-Palestinians that actually show unprecedented support of Israel as most are more interested in getting better treatment as citizens, then risk living under Hamas rule.

I know this firsthand as my parents are from the city of Laascaanood, Somalia. Virtually no government or police presence in a city of around 200k people. I know of many Somalis that go back for vacations and almost all of them go for the peace and quiet and lack of crime. This is because society keeps everyone in check. There are no gangs because society doesn't allow for their formation. It's far from perfect as sometimes society can enforce something terrible, like FGM for example. El Salvador, and the other countries in Central America, need to fix their failing societal structures to true and lasting peace. Every government will eventually weaken and collapse. This is an incredible piece of work. You’ve published here. Extremely informative, detailed, and easy to understand. Thank you

    • @omrikatzav
      @omrikatzav 5 месяцев назад

I agree with you, it was very informative.
      2. The relationship with Hamas and Fatah is shown to be almost that of competing political parties, while in fact, it's a very bloody relationship. When Hamas won the election in Gaza, it didn't just win against Fatah; it eliminated its supporters, throwing them from rooftops and killing them.
      4. The repeated refusal of the Palestinian leaders to negotiate any peace offerings.
      5. And finally, he ignored an amazing amount of aggressions committed by both Hamas, Fatah, and Jihadist Islam groups.
Without claiming it explicitly, he gave the impression of a complete oppressor-oppressed relationship, in which the Palestinian people are a freedom-seeking one, brutally stopped by Zionist cold-hearted actions.
Just for the sake of anyone reading this and looking for more, I suggest asking a simple question (which wasn't answered in the video) as to why - why did Egypt join the blockade on Gaza?

The Palestinian suffering is mostly caused by their failed leadership, in the early 2000s they had a chance to make peace but Arafat refused and instead went on a rampage blowing up buses and restaurants. If their education system would teach them real history and not how to kill Jews the situation would've been much better, but sadly the world does not know the reality on the ground and the arab states especially, they have an interest in keeping this conflict going, they like making the Palestinians as Israel's problem.
