This is a great thrift I didn’t know natgeo was around then that’s insane. Bout to drift off thanks asmrnerd best part of every Sunday is getting in bed and seeing a brand new upload from one of my all time favorite tubers since before asmr was cool
Gotta say, I’ve always been a history buff. I keep going back to this video cause i really dig the info. People today don’t read enough books and magazines, especially National Geographic!
Please do more videos like this. Reminds me of Gaslamp ASMR. Or your old videos. My favorite video you’ve ever done was the lab testing soil samples video.
So cool! This book was before Kodak photography, probably taken with the Autochrome process, which left that sort of blurred impressionist paint style. Thanks for sharing this great find, Nat Geo always has such compelling photography.
Haha, next to Alexander Graham Bell in that list was William Howard Taft. The 27th President of the US. His title here is listed as Chief Justice so this was printed after he was President.
I grew up in a painfully homogenous little town and my family didn't have money to travel nor did we have internet for the first 12 years of my life. National Geographic was my main window into the world. Luckily, my grandfather was very worldly (unlike most of the society there) and had a huge collection of NG magazines that I would read through for hours, weeks and months. It was much more interesting than hanging out with other kids wasting our time god knows where... Very nice video, we need more stuff like that in ASMR.
lol, at 36:00, they don't mention the "crumbling ruin" that the straw bales are at the foot of because that "crumbling ruin" is actually a massive pile of straw bales that they are stacking. It looks like steps because they are stacking it that way so they can walk up to stack it higher.
I haven't kept up with your channel in a bit lol. Just been Hella busy with work and other obligations. Last time I watched your channel you were playing horror games and giving the best asmr commentary I've ever heard. So many tingles, so relaxing. It's good to be back. Love your content bro🤙🏼
just fyi, tutankhamun's tomb was opened in 1922, just the year before this issue. these would have been pictures of a newly unearthed tomb, never before seen. an incredible find.
I was in this little bookshop in Vermont and they had this stack of printed leaflets, materials, and magazines from all sorts of wild shit. Coolest one was this leaflet from when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, just hanging out in the middle of a stack on the floor. Also, I don't know if you've seen the channel, but there's a guy who draws maps on old canvass bound books, it's really relaxing. Look up Witcher 3 Map Drawing ASMR for a really good one if you're interested.
Dang, National Geographic is older than I thought! I'm amazed you got it for $6, because that has to be worth a fortune! 9:21 Oh wow, I totally thought that was a security camera, forgetting it was 1923, so probably not 🤣
These color photos are so weird. Like I understand they are photos but they just look so much like a painting. I assume its because color is added after the fact? So maybe its more like a painted photo instead of a actually color photograph? Not sure but its amazing how cool this book is.
I'm not gonna lie, I voted for the Star Wars video, but I am glad it lost. This was a super cool and unique video, and I would love to see more videos on this.
Haha yes, the beard has made a cameo in the last few videos filmed from this perspective. It's hard to avoid sometimes, because I try to lean in close to the mics and I can't always keep an eye on the camera screen.
Seems that Nat Geo has actually gotten cheaper since 1923, today that would equate to about $60 a year but a print and digital subscription is only $29 a year today.
@@theASMRnerd @TechStomper Internet and digitization of works will do that to old books like both of those, unless they're in pristine condition and are first editions off the press.
Gotta love how unique this idea came to be, cant wait to watch the whole thing, If i didnt surrender to sleep that is
If you do end up falling asleep, that's okay too! It's a pretty long one, and pretty chill :)
This is a great thrift I didn’t know natgeo was around then that’s insane. Bout to drift off thanks asmrnerd best part of every Sunday is getting in bed and seeing a brand new upload from one of my all time favorite tubers since before asmr was cool
The National Geographic Society has been around since 1888, and I've been a member since 2000. Crazy to think they've been going strong for 134 years!
I love your whisper voice so much, it is so soothing and comforting.
Excellent addition to the content you put out. I'd personally love more videos/deep-dives on this book.
I really liked the wooden pointer. It would be cool to see it in more videos. Maybe an old iSpy book trying to find all the objects with the pointer??
Gotta say, I’ve always been a history buff. I keep going back to this video cause i really dig the info. People today don’t read enough books and magazines, especially National Geographic!
This was an awesome surprise. Book asmr is probably my favorite type, especially when it's something really interesting like this. Great job!
I would call that a wand because the sounds it makes by tracing and pointing are magic to my ears 👌🏼
Your whispering is my favourite! Thanks for the vid 💜
You did it yaaaayyyyy!! Soooo good dude! I’m coming back to Victoria in July, I’m soooo excited it’s been so long!!
These are my favorite types of videos! Love the whispered improvised asmr!
This strongly reminds me of your old Elderscrolls: Anthology Map video, which has always been my favorite of your videos
Great idea for a video. Love this kind of stuff.

Loving this video!!! So relaxing and interesting, would love a part 2. Thanks again Nick for the amazing content as always! :)

That's a really cool tidbit, I'm not familiar with the history of photography! Thanks for sharing!
One of my favourite magazines of all time, and so wonderfully presented. Thank you.
My pleasure, Gary! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
So happy this won out. 20 mins in and I love it. I used to remember going through all our National Geographic’s in the 90s.
Just finished a long shift! Can’t wait to watch this Nick I’m glad it won the poll it’s a different but nice change :))
I really enjoyed filming this one, it's nice to change it up once in a while. It reminds me of videos I used to do way back. I hope you enjoy it!
Haha, next to Alexander Graham Bell in that list was William Howard Taft. The 27th President of the US. His title here is listed as Chief Justice so this was printed after he was President.
Oh that's so cool, I didn't even notice! Thanks for pointing that out!
Ahh I love your readings! Thankyou for this! :D hope you’re doing well Nick and enjoying lots of awesome games!

great change of pace. big fan of the old nat geos
I like the wooden pointer. It’s neat
Lego is cool and all but I had to vote for something so unique and interesting. I cant wait to explore what is inside this book!
I'm glad you like it! It's a fascinating time capsule, and I really enjoyed filming this video.
I am so excited to see this one through, as it’s very relevant to my photojournalism history class! If only I could stay awake 😂

I love love love love "browsing through old books" videossssssss I'm gonna enjoy this video! >3
I am so glad, that this is whispered

very relaxing 😎 great work 😴
More plz! Awesome content.
wow this book is in remarkable condition for something of it's age, much unlike myself lol
Haha I feel that 😂
Please more videos like this 🙏🏻
last!
Glad to see this video won the poll, it's a nice change from the usual stuff
I was surprised to see it win too, but I agree, it's nice to change it up every now and again! I hope you enjoy the video :). Also, CERTIFIED FIRST! 🥇
Please do more like this. It's a favorite
This was incredible. Would love a followup

I ennie meanie minie moe’d when I had to vote on a video 😂 I didn’t want to choose because I liked both ideas 😊
You need the 100k soon and 1mill you deserve it
TYSM for the support!! It means a lot to me. 100K here we come!!
Nick: "An ancient loom in a peasant cottage."
Me: *looks up from literally weaving right now*
Your vocab is impeccable
Thank you, that's very kind of you to say!
@@theASMRnerd my pleasure!
i have a magazine from the 1930s. its really interesting to see what it was like.
Amazing how much can change in a human lifetime!
Dude 6$ is a deal! Dang!
Idk about Sardinia, but town criers/bellmen were paid in the UK and protected by the state!
I'm not gonna lie, I voted for the Star Wars video, but I am glad it lost. This was a super cool and unique video, and I would love to see more videos on this.
The beard poking into the shot had me giggling. And, also jealous.

You’d make a *GREAT* school teacher in my opinion! 😊👌
Thank you Zylice!! I really appreciate that 😊

Fascinating! I suppose that's the effect of scale and mass printing?
@@theASMRnerd I would have to think so, also the accessibility of photography has likely helped too.
I wish my parents didn't sell my NatGeos when I was moving. I had some very old issues I could've sent you!
Is there any chance you could do a morrowind anniversary video on May 1st 19th birthday?
I was like: "Do your maths please! 1923 isn‘t 99 years ag-…oooooh shit I’m old."
Good stuff
Really neat book but it sucks to see that so many of the pages got ripped out.
Can you pls make the LEGO Star Wars Video too?
it's kind of wild that this was only 6 dollars xD
Right? At the same thrift store I also picked up a leatherbound 1900 edition of the poems of Lord Byron for $4.
@@theASMRnerd @TechStomper Internet and digitization of works will do that to old books like both of those, unless they're in pristine condition and are first editions off the press.
very cool, kinda eerie that every person in these photos are dead
I thought the same while looking through! The passage of time is a hell of a thing.
This is beyond schway :)
The King Tut conspiracy deepens.......
Ahh yes. National Geographic. Our first porn mags.
