The initial point of the label nazi was pretty much settled in 30 minutes but Mr Girl had to loop again and again. Destiny recognized after like the third loop that it had become pointless. That part was infuriating. If Mr Girl thinks Destiny is evasive by asking clarifying questions, the easiest slam dunk for Mr Girl would be to just answer those questions as fast as possible to force Destiny to give an answer for the clarified terms/positions. That way, Mr Girl would actually get to an answer. But by not engaging it's clear that he isn't interested in that. He's too concerned to jump on simple gotchas to win some reddit points.

I think the relationship with Steven from his end is obsessive, possessive, and self righteous. Somehow he has infantilized Steven in his mind so much that he thinks he needs to "save" Steven from himself and if he could only make Steven understand the wrong he is doing, he would stop. The issue is that wether Steven is doing something wrong is debatable at best, but max isn't willing to debate that part. His debate is wether Steven is going to do it or not, not wether it's harmful in the first place. He is trying to force his advice onto Steven so hard.

Steven said MULTIPLE times when asked if he thinks that Nick is a Nazi "idk, it's possible, but that isn't the public policy prescriptions he gives". Max then proceeded to say he was being "evasive" or "obfuscating" by not giving a hard yes or no. This whole conversation just tells me that Max can't listen unless it's the answer he WANTS to hear to confirm his own beliefs, AND that he doesn't know Steven nearly as well as he thinks he does. I would put Max on time out for a bit of I were Steven. I know they are friends but Max is asserting himself far too much into Steven's decisions and being far too pushy about what he thinks Steven should do. MAX, you've said what you came to say and Steven disagrees, now stop trying to force it onto him. Destiny said "people have the right to kill rioters", then Max said "does the police have the right to kill rioters" and now destiny won't answer because rioter is such a broad word. We have to make sure we're not talking about 5 year olds. I can definitely see why Max would feel like Destiny is trying to evade the question.
@@ion1734 This is the bad faith part that Max does. The 5 year old example is clearly hyperbole that Destiny is using to prove a point about how definitions can be stretched. This is something that's implicit in that meaning, Max is being bad faith when he misrepresents the statement as its literal meaning and hence accuses Destiny of misrepresenting or straw manning his own argument. Language doesn't work that way and you have to have the skills to interpret language as metaphorical or literal when the respective context is appropriate. To miscategorize something as literal when it's so obviously a hyperbolic metaphor is unbelievably bad faith. Unfortunately Destiny got trapped in the straw man. He says over and over that if you give him an answer that actually addresses the question, or you tell him that You won't answer, he'll move on. But if you give him an answer that he doesn't believe answers the question, he'll get hizng up on it until one of the above conditions are met.

As he has shown time and time again. he only accept answers that he thinks he knows you should answer or you don't want to answer. It also feels like he really wants to flesh out every point and refuses to move off it even when there's almost nothing left to talk about. His constant obsession with trying to look optically right, his never ending interruption of those speaking, his unwillingness to come to an agreement or at least understanding on any point unless the other person fully concedes to him and his stance, his unwillingness to answer simple questions unless pushed extremely hard to do so. All of this suggests he's not simply concerned about Destiny.
We know that Destiny likes interesting conversations with interesting people. I think that Destiny actually enjoyed this conversation with Mr Girl after the fact, but was mentally pulling out his hair during the conversation. Like being exhausted while running but feeling more relieved after it's done. Or maybe it's more like eating spicy food, where it's painful while you're eating, but the pain is also pleasurable to some people. And Destiny happens to be one of those people.

He's crying about the way Destiny is platforming Nick. He said this in their first conversation... how did you miss that through his constant interruptions and obtuse accusations? He cited his platforming of Richard Spencer as the "right way" to do it, too. According to Mrgrill: Platforming Nazis is ok if it's done the way that he engaged with Richard Spencer, meaning the entire conversation needs to be about their abhorrent beliefs. Anything beyond that, like 'friendly' chicken dinner with Nick, is "sanitising" which he fears leads to Nick being able to weasel into contact with more creators, thus growing his platform. Wether or not that's true we can't know for certain. There is definitely a case to be made that Nick only appeared on Sneako's channel due to Destiny engaging with both. Sneako's audience is also an audience Nick will be able to siphon some people off of. On the flipside Destiny is only able to convert some of Nick's audience if he engages with him in the way that he does.

It actually takes quite a bit of self-awareness and practice to not let any emotion drive your thinking or reactions, especially when arguing on a subject you feel very particular about. After the last discussion, I misunderstood Mr girl and thought he is just emotional about the topic. Now after understanding more of his ideas I'm just scared of how dangerous it is. He can just get the idea of doing anything and no one could prove to him that he's wrong. It's the same as religious extremists.
This is why any discussion with Mr.Girl is a fucking nightmare. He makes a decision either early in the discussion or before it even starts and then just starts talking over people who disagree and just restates the one argument that I'm guessing is the one that convinced himself until someone states it back to him. Then when someone states his own stance back to him and pokes a hole in it he goes "WHY ARE YOU STRAWMANNING / GASLIGHTING / OBSFUSCATING!"
The problem is that not only is he utterly unshakable in the belief he is arguing for but also that he absolutely will not stop until the other person concedes and tells him he is right. A difference of opinion cannot be tolerated in his world. Feedback is not received unless the instruction is carried out without any deviation. Personally, it looks even worse to me. @@wisemage0 sometimes the thought that you have the tools to get out when it gets bad, makes you overconfident so that it is easier to fall in an abyss that those tools aren't the same to get out from anymore. It's stupid but it's something that happens because it's so gradual people don't even notice when they are too far gone. That's why I always say: the longer you stay in a toxic relationship, the harder it is to get out of it. Because of the toxicity of the relationships those tools get blunt, less sharp, some get lost, some bad ones get added and so on. Mr Girl is completely disingenuous here. On the one hand he claims to accept Destiny's own definition of nazi but at the same time when Destiny tells him that it's unclear, that parts of Nick are nazi-adjacent but other things aren't then Mr Girl accuses Destiny of obfuscating and contradicting himself. Otherwise put, Mr Girl in fact does NOT accept Destiny's own evaluation of Nick Fuentes as a nazi despite claiming to do so.
And here we have another 3 hour long example of how Max struggles to perceive the world outside of his own boundaries. I'm half way through this discussion and Max is still struggling to see how Nick doesn't fall in to Destiny's definition of Nazi because he can't grasp a reality in which his own definition isn't agreed upon by someone he thinks agreed with him at some point. MrGirl got super angry when Destiny said his argument was in line with every other leftist argument was very telling and I honestly don't think MrGirl is emotionally mature enough to have half of the conversations he does.

The only criticism I had of Destiny was simply wasting the argument against the wrongful use of Nazi on arguments against Nick Hard to believe that isn't the position he's taking, honestly. That where he shouldn't even bother making the argument in that specific case. Knowing when the argument is just going to fall of deaf ears is something he's typically good at identifying. Max's biggest issue was relying too much on the framing of turning Destiny's viewers into Nazis. It really just went to show a deep misunderstanding of the demographics that his audience is comprised of. I would bet money that less than .05% of Destiny's viewers, if any at all, could be swayed towards favoring Nick's positions in any way. Even if that point was conceded for the sake of argument, I would bet that exponentially more of Nick's audience is becoming more favorable to Destiny's perspective, and the trade-off is pretty clearly worth it. And in the argument of cops shooting vs civilians, there is so much more nuance to unpack than Max gave recognition to.

Fully agreed. I don't get how Destiny can take this crap when Mr Girl is clearly a bad faith actor. The initial point of the label nazi was pretty much settled in 30 minutes but Mr Girl had to loop again and again. Destiny recognized after like the third loop that it had become pointless. If Mr Girl thinks Destiny is evasive by asking clarifying questions, the easiest slam dunk for Mr Girl would be to just answer those questions as fast as possible to force Destiny to give an answer for the clarified terms/positions. That way, Mr Girl would actually get to an answer. But by not engaging it's clear that he isn't interested in that. He's too concerned to jump on simple gotchas to win some reddit points.

I think the relationship with Steven from his end is obsessive, possessive, and self righteous. I would put Max on time out for a bit of I were Steven. I know they are friends but Max is asserting himself far too much into Steven's decisions and being far too pushy about what he thinks Steven should do. MAX, you've said what you came to say and Steven disagrees, now stop trying to force it onto him. It is his choice to accept your advice or discard it, and you need to learn to live with that decision either way.

This is something that's implicit in that meaning, Max is being bad faith when he misrepresents the statement as its literal meaning and hence accuses Destiny of misrepresenting or straw manning his own argument. Language doesn't work that way and you have to have the skills to interpret language as metaphorical or literal when the respective context is appropriate.
To miscategorize something as literal when it's so obviously a hyperbolic metaphor is unbelievably bad faith. Unfortunately Destiny got trapped in the straw man. Max's biggest issue was relying too much on the framing of turning Destiny's viewers into Nazis. It really just went to show a deep misunderstanding of the demographics that his audience is comprised of. I would bet money that less than .05% of Destiny's viewers, if any at all, could be swayed towards favoring Nick's positions in any way. Even if that point was conceded for the sake of argument, I would bet that exponentially more of Nick's audience is becoming more favorable to Destiny's perspective, and the trade-off is pretty clearly worth it.
And in the argument of cops shooting vs civilians, there is so much more nuance to unpack than Max gave recognition to.

I think Max thinks that because him and Steven have a similar definition of Nazi, not getting a direct answer to “does X person fit the category of Nazi?” Feels like a weasel.
While Steven wishes to answer in a wholistic way that addresses why Max’s question only allows for one use of the word, Max thinks it doesn’t matter because “It’s me. WE are having the conversation, Steven. I’m not an SJW trying to moralize.” I think Max would still have issues with Steven’s platforming of Nick, but it would remove the “ambiguous” (in Max’s eyes) elements. But Steven thinks it’s already ambiguous, because others destroyed the word.

As a "casual" viewer of these types of vids (take that as you will), this is the vibe I am getting:
Mr.Girl strikes me as the type of person that if he is having a convo that is, say, an hour long, and you use a specific word, say 50 times, and ONE time you pronounce that word wrong, he will latch onto that instance for dear life to say you don't even know how to speak.
