I remember that. I'd get home from high school and turn on my tv. The tube was going out so it took about 3 minutes to warm up and for the picture to materialize....I could just see the image as the piano intro started. That was a long time ago.
Well, the REAL reason it was written is that Sixx basically had a death wish. He was a heroin addict was was disillusioned with all of life. He was in a dark place and it summed up suicide by wrecklessness.
I had run away from home for being a bratty rock teen and this song blasted out in about 87/88 and was the reason I went back home. I missed my parents and little brother terribly. I got my act together, graduated high school and ended up becoming a youth counselor and then a youth probation officer.
This song was so perfect at that time and era. It really resonated with everyone who heard it. Everyone can identify with wanting to go home. It's universal. The details may have been a bit different from person to person, but everybody could see something of themselves in this song.
Vince proclaiming its a great song is not him being conceited, it truly is one of the, if not thee greatest power ballad of 85,it think Nikki touched the sun with that one, probably my favorite Crüe tune,Wildside is my 2nd favorite
Back in 1988 my husband was coming home after being on a 1 year unaccompanied tour in Korea! I made a mix tape, booked a room in the hotel where we spent our wedding night! This song was MOST DEFINITELY included as I still L😍VE THIS SONG!!! THANKS CRUE!!! YOU'LL ALWAYS ROCK ME!!! 🥰🩷✌️🤘🤘🤘
Congrats to you and your husband. I enlisted in the Air Force in 1988. I was stationed in South Korea 3 times. Yeah, music has a way of bringing us back to the places we were when we first listened to the music. For example, Cheap Trick's song "The Flame" was playing in the waiting room at the MEPS station in San Diego the night before I flew to Lackland AFB for basic training.
@@RedondoBeach2 I hope you got to see more of the world than just Korea! Out of Basic, sent to Grand Forks AFB, ND! UGH! Home Sweet Home extraordinary tune ❤ This song played in every club around the world when it was time for the last call . Forty years later, wooow . God bless 🎶
Had 1st girl in summer of 1986 in Houston TX. Hung at astroworld all the time. Everything time it was time to go home I would throw a quarter in the video machine and play this. Get a kiss and walk her to her mom's car. 5 month relationship but to this day when hear this song I think of her
This song has it all as far as ballads go- piano intro/outro, lyrics, killer guitar solo, building momentum, meaning etc... simple the greatest 80’s ballad ever!
This song INSTANTLY takese back to wandering around the streets at 3 am with my buddies that we all snuck out and met each other at 12 midnight .. we would get into all sorts of trouble and adventures smoking marlboro reds and a little green bud, climbing on roofs at the local high school, walking the railroad tracks down to the creek or going to some girls house all night and then split up and then finally sneak back into our own homes before sunrise.. its always a bittersweet feeling to hear this song. Some of my best and most memorable yet troubled days of my youth
My dad loved Motley Crue, he introduced me and my sister to they’re music when we were young, he passed away a long time ago, this song always reminds me of him, love and miss you dad.
I took my Son on his 16th birthday to see Motley Crue with the Scorpions opening because I raised him on rock and roll and it was amazing and he's 42 now ❤!!!
❤🎉 THIS SONG IS PROBABLY THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TO ME 😢AS IT REMINDS ME OF SOME OF THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE .😊DAMN I MISS THOSE AWESOME FEW YEARS. ALWAYS ❤THE CRÜE❤.
As a Mötley Crue fan since the beginning, I am so happy and can’t wait for their next Greatest Hits album. I will add it to my collection of their prior 15 Greatest Hits album.
I drove over the road, moved heavy equipment for an outfit, I was gone for mouths at a time, I didn't have a family then but it was nice to just know I was going home and I played the hell out that song.
❤ This is honestly 1 of the best songs I've ever heard, brings back memories, I was very young, but I remember the feeling it gave me and still does to this day. . ♥
This is my #1 FAVORITE Motley Crue song since I was a child. It's my favorite band of ALL time & it will NEVER change! I had the pleasure of meeting Vince Neil at a liquor store in Las Vegas, had a nice chat with him, shook his hand, got 3 bottles of his own liquor that he autographed in front of me & took a shot with him. I thanked him & Nikki Sixx for giving me one of their tee-shirts, some guitar pics & Nikki let me borrow his drum sticks for a little while (my cousin had to give them back. His friend is related to a member). A photo of me smiling face to face with Vince was featured in a Las Vegas magazine. Good times! 🤘❤
This song takes me so many places. At the time I had to move at least twice a year and switch schools. Yeah there were times I would just cry as I sang along. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was only about nine years old when this song dropped and I remembered being completely blown away at how cool the video was. I spent so many times standing up on our big brick wall length fireplace ledge that we used to have in the house growing up that resembled a mini stage pretending I was up there being Vince while my buddies played Nikki Tommy or Mick lol definitely learned the lyrics for all of theatre of pain pretty quickly lol. My brother was about eight years older than me and got me into them back in 83 with shout at the devil. Funny my sister who is a couple years younger than him was really into pop like Platinum Blonde, Duran Duran, and Corey Hart and Wham etc and even she secretly admitted to me how much she liked home sweet home, but swore me not to tell the brother as to not give him the satisfaction because they always hated each other‘s music choices (really only pretended to) haha good times in the 80’s
My mom who is Jamaican bought this record theatre of pain and played this song on he stereo that had a record player on one side and 8track on the other lol. Have you ever heard a Jamaicans speak imagine my mom singing this song omg she would say music brings people together and doesn’t see colour she loves this group. Love this group love this song Rip to my mom Mrs sexy sadie
Yep, I was a sophomore or junior in high school at the time. I was in band, and some of the more extroverted of my classmates would regularly beeline to the nearest piano to display their hipness by playing the intro to this song. I always found it to be hilarious, in a very “Breakfast Club” kind of way. Several decades on and I have a much more sophisticated understanding of what went on with all of that. It’s a great tune, no doubt about it. I really liked the Crüe, and still do. I’ve been playing drums for nearly forty years now, and I’ve been in a couple dozen different bands that played their songs. Whether or not a person enjoys their particular twiddly diddlys, one thing can be said, they didn’t suck.
1 of the best ballads ever miss Motley Crue and the rest of the hair bands wish that style of rock music would come back to our lives please any new bands come out with that style of music we need it back
Best memories, seeing the Crue, Tommy drums and him rotating over the crowd and him playing upside down over us. Mick Mars standing over in the corner, all 4'6" of him just absolutely shredding his guitar all night.
In the military thinking of home every time I hear this song it's probably one of the greatest songs ever written and He's sung it perfectly and musically was perfect
greatest concert moment of my life was during this song. tommy, came out played one note on the piano, we as a crowd sang it in its entirety and then they came out and played it again.
I was 16 in 1987 me and a buddy went to OKC for the Girls Girls Girls concert. They played Home Sweet Home it was awesome.... White Snake opened for them....
I had been on a 3-weeks holiday once and I got homesick by the start of the second week so by the end of the third week I was so happy that I just started playing this song 😂❤.
This song was voted #1 video on MTV call in voting program for so long MTV changed the rules to have it removed, The start of the end of MTV programming, not listening and disregarding their own viewers just to screw over Motley and the followers of viewers choices. I bet there's a Market for old school video channel. ❤
I love these guys I seen them every time they came to Detroit first time I ever seen and was at Harpo's that's when they do the bar tours and it's the bar in Detroit where all the rock and roll bands go this was my favorite band in the 80s still love their music man they really are good
The video was done in Houston TX. At the Summit.. i was there they asked the audience if they could do the song 3 or 4 times over because they wanted to change clothes and get different seens and different cameras angles 😊 it was pretty Awesome at that time .. anyone else on here go to the Summit and see this tour 🤔
They played this song over the PA system on my ship (USS SARATOGA) when we returned home from the Mediterranean Sea,1987.
Wow! Awesome
had a buddy that served on the SARATOGA in the 80s as well....
Thank you for your service! 🫡

Amen to that!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time! Being Gen X has been a privilege 👊🐾🐾
The last generation to have a spine.
I LOVE MOTLEY CRUE. seen them in the 1980s and recently in Alabama. I'm 60 years old and will always be a rocker till the end
I’m 15 but I wish I could experience the 80s rockstar era
Yeah brother!!! Long live Rock and Roll, baby!!!!
This is one of only a few songs/music videos that strikes a nerve of core 80s nostalgia in me.
I was an 80s MTV baby.🤘🏻
My Mom's Favorite song. 78 years old when she passed. Ever time I hear the song I cry my ass off. And Don't Gaf who sees me crying
Just let it all out, man --- crank this song loud and proud to honor your Mom
Rest in peace dad I remember crying myself to sleep listening to this song the night he died my dad loved him some Motley Crue
Your father had great taste, sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss man.
Sounds like an awesome guy, sorry for your loss brother.
Sorry for your loss
Sorry for you loss, he knew good music!
It’s definitely one of the best songs ever. Nikki Sixx nailed it with this one🤘🏼
And Tommy
Im 52 and still listen...
Probably the best song Sixx ever wrote
I watched The Crue live 5 times. Every time was a PARTY!
I've seen them at least 20, but I'm old
I send this song to my wife and kids every time I’m returning home from military missions or schools. My favorite Crue song.
This song actually stopped the MTV daily best 10 song countdown. For 1 month straight, this song was #1.
I remember that. I'd get home from high school and turn on my tv. The tube was going out so it took about 3 minutes to warm up and for the picture to materialize....I could just see the image as the piano intro started. That was a long time ago.
Back when MTV played music
1 month? You mean over a year.
I remember everyday, for 3 months straight during the Summer of 1988 (May, Jun, July) Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard was No. 1 also
A testament to how great songs outlive any hype.
I want this played at my funeral..❤🤘🤘
Indeed sir
I hadn’t considered this song as one of my funeral songs, but you may have convinced me. Knockin On Heaven’s Door and Black are my top 2.
Well, the REAL reason it was written is that Sixx basically had a death wish. He was a heroin addict was was disillusioned with all of life. He was in a dark place and it summed up suicide by wrecklessness.
I read this in Homers voice
10yrs old seeing this video made a whole generation want to go on tour!
80's Rocked!
Me too! ❤ It!
Fukk yeah! 🤟
it was the best of times man, i miss it so much.
Yes, sir! I've seen a lot of great bands. High^^ "school years"...keg parties and rock and roll...😂
