I was in the U.S. Navy and i asked my C.O. to play this song over the ships loud speakers as we pulled into port after a long 8 month deployment in the Persian Gulf and he obliged being a Crue fan himself. As we approached the pier with hundreds of eagerly waiting family and friends to meet us and this song playing it was a rush of pride and relief coupled with rock concert cheers from those on the pier that was overwhelming. Something i will never ever forget in my lifetime.

The Netflix doco The Dirt was awesome. A band that's literally seen it all and somehow survived.
Unlike some other bands getting around they knew when to stop, maybe they better whisper into Paul Stanley's ear some advice from Dr Feelgood.

In 1986 I was miserable kid in high school. The only bright spot of my day was hanging with my drummer friend Barbie in music class. She was a total rocker chick, had epic big 80s hair and was OBSESSED with the Crüe. We would play Home Sweet Home together on the piano. I totally had a crush on her but was too shy to ask her out. I never got a picture of her or found out what happened to her after high school. So if you're reading this Barbie McDaniel, thank you for being my friend. Hope you are still rocking to the Crüe. Best wishes and much love from the future!

My best friend was a funny goofy kid and a fan of rap but knew nothing about rock/metal. At one point this was his favorite song and he would sing it and play it on his phone everywhere. So much that I ended up hating this song haha. We would always make fun of him because he knew nothing about this kind of music but always played this song and would act like he is a rockstar. Months later he passed away at 19 years old and we played this song at his funeral. I now love this song and it will always remind me of his goofy ass singing it. RIP brother ❤️

I cheered and so did all of my friends when MTV finally banned this song. NOBODY wanted to hear it anymore and it was obvious the result was being manipulated somehow.
In the 1980’s the phone system was analog. There were choke points, which meant callers from some parts of the country would have difficulty getting through to New York where MTV is located. This was explained to us after a local band appeared on Basement Tapes and lost partly because “the phone lines were jammed” and voters from our town couldn’t get through.
The point of this story being - a relatively small but devoted cadre of Crue fans in a major node like Los Angeles could put Home Sweet Home up to #1, while everyone else struggled to get in through jammed lines.
When #1 on the countdown came up, and it was f**king Motley Crue AGAIN it was time to change the channel.

Then, Im guessing he was fkd up, he started walking away from the piano, and yet, miraculously, the piano continued to play. He walked back, and looked at our area of seating, and shrugged. I was forever skeptical. Kiss was even worse.

Greatest Crüe song of all Time

This album came out when I was 13. I hadn’t seen my dad since he left when I was 8 and I was kind of going through a real rough spell. I pretty much wore this cassette out getting through those awful teen years. That summer my father invited me to come back home to see him and work for him at his business. My mother and I were on our own and dirt poor living in Seattle. I was more excited to make money than to see him tbh. I was still super mad that he left us. I worked hard for him all summer. I wanted him to see how hard I worked and be proud of me. Towards the end of the summer we had a nasty fight over something stupid. I said some dumb teenage shit that really pissed my dad off and he fired me. He suggested that I go home early so I did. He booked a flight the next day and he and my grandmother took me to the airport. When they dropped me off my grandmother simply handed me an envelope but said not to open it until I was home. No hugs, no goodbyes, no other words from either of them. Odd but I didn’t think much of it. I barely knew my grandmother so we were not tight. I was hoping for at least a handshake from my dad but got nothing. Prick.
I get on the plane, find my seat and I’m 13 so of course I couldn’t wait until I got home to open the envelope. I knew it was my paycheck for the summer. My dad suggested that I should wait until the end of the summer to get paid. He knew I needed school clothes and that bastard somehow got out of child support. I had worked hard that summer and was super pumped to see how much I made! He told me he would pay me $5 an hour so it was pretty easy for me to calculate that I had at LEAST a grand or more. Other than that one fight, we got along. zero issues so I was sure my dad had paid me extra! I figured that’s why he also didn’t want me to open it until I got home. Didn’t want me to hug him or anything 😂
I sat down next to some old guy and kind of explained the story behind my envelope. Well I opened it and it was a surprise all right! No paycheck, no bonus, it was a ledger sheet. It was a bill! My dad and grandmother charged me room and board, airline tickets and even charged me for some jeans they claimed I put on his credit card! I didn’t btw.
I was devastated on so many levels. A fucking $60 charge they said I OWED THEM? I worked my ass off for him and I had no money to show for it. Nothing for clothes or to help with rent. I was beyond PISSED. Obviously why those two waited.
The old guy felt bad for me but didn’t know what to say. I took out my Walkman and listened to this song over and over until I fell asleep in tears. This song obviously reminds me of that time but it helped me remember that my mom would be waiting for me in Seattle. The Crue basically got me through high school.
True story, stg. My dad was a dick and his mom the devil. We didn’t speak for 30 years after that. I could never forgive him. He got sick so we reconnected before he died. I never forget or forgave him. I didn’t pay it btw 😏

My brother took his life and so did my mother about a year later. It took me years of counseling to finally be able to say that my past doesn’t define me but refines me. I raised 5 kids and made sure they knew they were loved everyday. I dedicated my life to helping others and being the best dad i could be. Im fine until i drink to much and hear a song that reminds me of stuff. Lots of people have it way worse so i try and count my blessings

    Just take this song
And you'll never feel left all alone
    Take me to your heart
    Feel me in your bones
    Just one more night
And I'm coming off this long and winding road

    Tonight, tonight
    I'm on my way
    I'm on my way

    Too many romantic dreams
Up in lights, falling off the silver screen
My heart's like an open book
For the whole world to read
Sometime nothing keeps me together at the seams
    I'm on my way
    I'm on my way

Some ONE I getchu but considering you’re not the one making the music yourself what does it matter which generation made it, just enjoy the easy access you have to all this great artistry? And if you know where to look you’ll find that our generation makes great music too! Also consider this take, your dad’s generation might have had Motley Crue and other great artists but they also had shitty artists just like we do now, but we only hear and know of the great ones cause the previous generation filtered through the good and bad for us. Now it’s on us to do the same for future generations. But we also must remember that music is subjective and we should be respectful of what others choose to listen to ☺️
