Chalamela Varnam | The Madras Music Academy | Meera Sreenarayanan

Meera Sreenarayanan performs at The Madras Music Academy Dance Festival, the popular varnam, Chalamela Jesevayya, set to Nattakurinji Raga and Adi Tala, and composed by Moolaiveedu Rangaswamy Nattuvanar, taught to her by Kalakshetra Nirmala Nagaraj. The original dance composition is by Rukmini Devi Arundale, which has been adapted under the guidance of Indira Kadambi.

The last dance I have seen of yours was balakanakamaya, I just can’t believe how differently your dance has evolved. I do understand the fact that it was kuchipudi and this is Bharatanatyam but it took me an hour to find similarities to believe it was you indeed. Hi you are so woundful dancer great to watch you. But changes in this varnam???. I know the Kalakshetra is open to all now but to show your fine expression . With your own idea is also beautiful, but if jathi and part varnam, is from Kalakshetra why ? If You have great choreography ideas and skills. 🙏please the hole varnam you can be done fully by yourself or by any great teacher's lots of people are doing this now some extra hands can be add in ..but all the old hands do it fully then add in if we need to .. if I will not do that ...please don't disrespectful to the person who have done the great job before at Kalakshetra. It's my kind request we all are artists respect to our older generation gurus and there work can be Preserve in there original forms
