Throughout our Inspiring How UC That journey, we, like many other content creators, have run into a number of technological issues while editing our videos. We have relied heavily on the knowledge and helpfulness of other RUclipsrs to help get us over these challenges. With that in mind, Kevin is hear to share a useful tip with fellow content creators.
If you are unfamiliar with Open Broadcast Software (OBS), it is a program that allows you to capture streamed content to use for your videos. If you've used this, and it resulted in you can capture audio but just get a black screen, Kevin has figured out a very handy workaround. Hopefully this will help you in making interesting and entertaining videos!

I like how you're not trying to promote piracy, you're only helping creators better create with the necessary images and content necessary to complete their activity.
any professional pirate distributer would just have an HDMI input splitter and record the signal, only costs them about 50 bucks
and once the pirate posts it, the cat is already out of the bag, that's why video DRM is pointless, it only harms the end user not the pirate
Maybe someone just needs a clip to make a short meme or TikTok. I see all kinds of clips uses for memes. Not everything is about pirating a whole movie.

I read a ton of convoluted solutions to this problem with Filmora, and you gave a simple straightforward fix. You've gained a subscriber for life.
10 minutes just to give a dumb solution ? just deactivate hardware acceleration on any chormium based explorer, no need to even use firefox and certainly no need to make a 10 minute video about that
@Fabian Peters I am very slow in the head but That's a few clicks away, no PHD. And Chromium is the engine behind edge, chrome,brave and whatever besides Firefox .

In Chrome you can disable hardware acceleration, then you can bypass the black screen.

short and to the point?? Are you kidding? This is one of the most long winded most annoyingly repeating everything but the answer 'quick tip' I've ever seen. This is the example I will be pointing to from now on as far as how to not make a 'quick tip'.

Babes, you're the first hit on google. This video needs to be much more succinct. When I skip through it there should be a very easy point where I find you saying "Okay now that you have downloaded X, open it, click blah> click blah> click blah> okay now you're recording! Open Netflix and begin recording!"

Wow! That explains it. I used to use Firefox and I used it to record movies on OBS to use clips for editing a review, but earlier this year I got so tired of Firefox constantly updating so I deleted it and then installed Opera and since then and now recording my screen to get these clips from movies and then the screen goes black. Damn! I guess I got to go back to Firefox. I'll just have to change the settings so it stops automatically updating.
You guys are literally the only ones I've found that have a solution that works. Thank you.

It stopped working for Firefox but it works for Google Chrome if you turn off hardware acceleration.

Works again now (go figure)!!! I downloaded and installed OBS per your instructions on my Mac PRO M1 and after I rebooted my computer it magically worked with FireFox like before with QuickTime capture (didn't need OBS even though it works with OBS too). OBS must have done something to the setting during installation so very happy again. Thank you for responding and for your fantastic videos / help. Like you said in your videos, this fix is very finicky. Salute

They seem to have updated some of their security on their apps and sites. However if u remove that, it work’s usually for most users. How u can also turn off your hardware acceleration which helps too. Mac can be difficult though, if that’s used

ngl i had my doubts im very skeptical when it comes to all these 3rd party softwares and random videos saying oh this is guaranteed to work with comments sounding fake as hell saying wow thanks (insert name) ive spent so and so time and money trying everything else but this works great. Whoever reads this, currently from september 22, of 2022 this does work until these streaming companies decide to try and sue firefox for not protecting their content and i will say thank you to this random dude on youtube because ive been looking for a way to download all these movies and shows that are treasures to me but until now nothing has worked everything that would wants an arm and a leg for a 1 yr license or is just trash software that downloads in fuckin 244p but with this workaround for obs i can just record it on my own time lol

Oh things have changed already. I really badly didn't want to change back to Firefox so I looked up any way to just fix the black screen on Opera, and at least for now it is working. I had to go to Settings and click Browser and scroll down to System and disable Use Hardware Acceleration. I was able to record the screen on Disney Plus to use for an upcoming movie review to keep my subscribers who have given me a larger surge of subscribers since the Johnny Depp trial shorts I've uploaded and keep them around by uploading reviews of his movies so Disney Plus may make it obvious which film I'm talking about, but he was in several besides that. lol

@@InspiringHowUCThat Kevin, I've been capturing short clips off previously recorded xfinity/comcast pro sports content. I was using Firefox and QTP until today. Unfortunately, I'm now getting the black screen of doom.
More and likely it’s the app setting upgrades. They probably implemented in Secuity blocking. Check those in your app settings to see if u can remove those. If not we will look into it and hopefully come out with another video with the apps and or programs u are using to diagnose the issue

Mac unfortunately can be very difficult with causing these issues because they perform updates regularly and many times update your setting on your device. Usually it’s a pop up or cookie blocker they have implemented. U will have to go into your security setting on the mac and check to see if that is the issue by turning off some security settings. Then see if it works. If not we will try to do a video on this but we don’t use mac.

writing this in January of 2023 and i believe firefox now blocks movies and tv shows trying to be recorded through OBS. i started a reaction channel last year and had no issues recording my screen through OBS until this year, i don't know if there's been an update for the new year but i'm coming back to this video to see if anyone has had any workarounds for recording screen through OBS in 2023. I always heavily edit my videos as to not get copyrighted, i don't want the screen recording for anything other than to continue my channel. if anyone has any advice or has also ran into this issue, feel free to reply to this comment. i'm looking for literally any help..
We have posted a helpful update at the end of November 2022. Try that video. Hopefully that helps. If not we have another video coming out in 3 weeks that talks about Mac Apple and hardware settings. IHUCT

Thanks for the charming tip but we all need to get full resolution video. unfortunately, firefox supports 720p resolution video only.
This absolutely worked as I had no idea it was as simple as using Firefox instead of Chrome or other web browsers. I still wish there was a solution for Chrome as I prefer using Chrome and my internet information is stored on there so I can't use Xfinity on Firefox until I figure that out.
