I tried learning this from other tutorials in the past and they never explained it as well as you. So I just did blurring frame by frame and it was so damn painful. You made it super easy to understand, to the point I actually remember it without even having to follow along. Thank you for this!
We love you Alex, wow I learnt so much new stuff in DR because of you. Not only are your tutorials are amazing but you explain so easily too. Very easy to understand. Your like a knowledge base of DR. I can listen to you forever. I learnt so much stuff because of you.
this goes straight into my favorites "MrAlexTech" videos. Been looking for something like this for so long. thanks man, i'll blur as there is no tomorrow !
It's good to know that lowering the pitch of the voice is not enough to really hide it. A person who knows and wants (all of us after watching this tutorial) could simply import this clip into DaVinci and turn up the pitch again to hear the original voice. So don't use that for work that is truly sensitive. In that case you need to do some more advanced audio scrambling. I did enjoy the tutorial so just want to give you all some extra information there.
I recently used the similar tutorial from Casey Faris to learn this. I have to admit yours is better 👍 since it's half length, free of nonsense talk and annoying comments.
Thanks for the good advice. Great video. As a sound guy, I might add, that disguising a voice is not really done by pitching it. It can easily be reversed. So the "identity" of the speaker would not be protected.
Another great tutorial. One thing that I use when the blurred subject leaves the frame is another key frame and drag the motion blur off the screen. Otherwise I notice the blur likes to hang around for the remainder of the clip.
Shouldn't you be DrAlexTech by now? Was watching your earlier face-tracking tutorial from three years ago when this popped up, and all my updated interface questions were answered - along with a bunch more. Thanks, Doc. You are the reason I was able to switch late last year (in the middle of a project) from Premiere to Resolve and not die. So you are clearly having fun (and please don't stop doing that), but you're also saving lives out here.
You are the absolutely best of best, and I must say I love your sense of humor too. Thank you so much always for teaching us these tips that work amazingly!
Nice video mate! As an aside, if you are adding the same effect, you can put both masks on one node... Place mask, track, place second mask, track, add effect.
Bloody brilliant, thanks man. I didn't know about the serial node to protect the grade on my clip with the blur applied. Note to self I must learn fusion!
It's Lenny Henry! Pitch-lowered, your voice immediately reminded me of Sir Lenworth. He's from Dudley so the accent works too. (Neither of you has much of an accent but friends of Enoch and Eli will recognise you).
Your voice as a kid is the most hilarious part of this video :) Another great video mate, learnt a few tips. Thank you for the effort in putting this together!
Thanks for your awesome work Mr. Alex, but you need to update this video because I and many others are having an issue where we only want to blur a part of a clip but The blur is showing up in the whole clip. How do we fix that without cutting our clips every few seconds? How to stop the blur from showing up when the subject walked out of the frame ?
Great video, very useful but I was wondering instead of blurring the object can an image be placed over the tracked object from within the colour panel?
Brilliant Alex, just what I was looking for, many thanks. Is it as easy to do with whole moving frames? like captures of home movies on 8mm film, where the framing is not perfect and the captured frame moved out of the image area? I can send you a video if you're interested in doing a tutorial on it.
Hi Alex, great video, is it possible to blur only in the middle of a clip or has it got to be a whole clip? I ask because I've got a 3 minute clip and I need to blur about 3 seconds in it so do I need to cut it up or can theis be done using key frames, I'm using DR18.6 free version many thanks Barry
Brilliant intro, excellent tutorial 👌 Question: Smartphone sRGB with x-rite colorchecker video to Reg.709. Convert first and then adjust colors to colorchecker or reversed?
Could you make a video about tracking (tracker and planar tracker)? I'm trying to put text in a landscape shot made with a drone. Is it possible to have the text in perspective and follow the zoom / motion of the camera ?
This is great MrAlexTech. Thanks. But can you explain how to use this process over many clips? For instance, if you do a RUclips tutorial - as you do - and then edit and cut your dialog to make it snappy and end up with dozens of cut clips of you speaking, then is there a way to do this tracking across the entire video (multiple clips) and not one clip at a time?! I hope you or someone here can answer this question. Cheers!
That's cool! What if in a clip, I want to blur only a few seconds in the middle of it, instead of the entire clip as you have demonstrated. Do I have to use the Frame option, only? I mean, do I have to manually put keyframes in it? I'm sorry if it does look too amateur. But, indeed, I'm a beginner and I'm learning with videos like yours. Thanks in advance. Edit note: I'm trying to blur part of a clip but when I play from the start, the prior "position" of the intended blurred object is also blurred even when it is not on the screen (the object I want to blur, in the case, a sign on the video). The same occurs afterwards, after the object is off the scrreen. Does it make sense or i'm a bit confusing?
Hello! Is there a method where we can apply this effect across many clips in one go? For example, I have cut down the main video clip into smaller clips and I want to apply the blur to all the smaller clips. Does this work using an adjustment clip on top of the smaller clips?
Hiya Shane! I don't think it works with an Adjustment Clip but it does work with Compound Clips. So you could turn them into a Compound, and then do the tracking on that instead :)
If you need to turn it off, cut the clip before you do this and put the cuts on different tracks. If you've already tracked it, cut the clip and turn it off for each specific clip in the settings tab.
I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't track after I updated since its worked in the past. I didn't have the correct tracker option selected. THANK YOU!
Hey. Nice tutorial. I propose to use Magick Mask and choose before selecting Features and from there select Face, then tracking;) It also works very well and we have a perfectly made face mask and we can always add the neck and other body elements :) Regards from Norway, Pawel.
Great vid thanks I looking to blur my bike speedo but I have to cut my footage a lot, do you know of a way so I don't have to do this for the cut up clips. As it will save me loads of time. Take care thanks
Add the blur on an Adjustment Clip above your main footage. You'll probably still need to cut it up abit for tracking purposes etc, but at least you won't need to keep redoing the blur 👍
Hi, appreciate all the things you're putting here and really like the way you present it but ... ummm maybe I'm lazy (didn't read the DaVinci manual) I'm struggling with making audio key frames in the edit page (with assigned keyboard button) for quick volume adjustments to do my initial audio levels. Is there a way to do it?
Talking of colour grading.... What was that quick hack / short cut you mentioned in a video a while back you can just use on the edit page instead of going full on grading...? Used on the edit page, and a couple of key taps and the grading is near enough done for us novices....!
instead of blurring the face, would it be possible to instead put an image over it? i've been attempting this for a little bit, but i can't figure it out. any help would really be appreciated!!

Hi, blurred tutorial please with a moving/panning video with multiple face(say 3 faces) to blur. I follow your tutorial but the blurred circle stays on the screen(1st face) even the person is not in the scene anymore and so on and so on...im really hoping you will help
I need to do a second blur further into the clip, I can't seem to figure out how to save this one and then put in a sceond later down the clip. Any help would be appreciated
I tried learning this from other tutorials in the past and they never explained it as well as you. So I just did blurring frame by frame and it was so damn painful. You made it super easy to understand, to the point I actually remember it without even having to follow along. Thank you for this!

So nice, especially the "interactive" voice changing! at 7:51 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! Just a few simple cuts (you can't seem to keyframe pitch in the Inspector!)
very clear explanation, I saw three videos for the blue and how to track but they are not clear enough like yours simple easy, and fast, thank you
Excellent tutorial!
Followed your instructions and it worked like a charm 😀
Thank you very much 👍

I am blessed to have found your channel. Your explanation is super clear, with the correct speed for beginners. Thanks millions.
My god that 3D perspective was the thing I've been trying to fix for 3 hours, thanks
Best job explaining Resolve tools & techniques I've found yet. Thanks!
Thanks again for another video with information I didn't realize I wanted to know until I saw it! LOL
thank you! blurring is never easy (especially since mine usually involve blurring wiggly kids) but this made it so much easier.
