For everyone trashing this guy, I think he was just giving you the quick basics. He already had a pre-measured door opening. I agree in the real world, old work install, there were a lot of steps left out. A weekend worrier will not be installing a commercial door. I think this was meant for people with a lot of construction experience, who can figure some of the other steps out. I’m doing one tomorrow on an old building, and I can guarantee it will not go anywhere a smoothly as this one (where he probably did the framing and knows the header is level). JMO! For the person who asked about the price of the KD door, I just bought the frame and door for $825 with tax included. The one I bought has a small window. Hinges were included, but not the panic bar,/handle, or automatic closer - that’s about another $400-500 depending on the quality you buy.
What a lucky bastard I can't believe that door fit, he did not even level the header or plumb the hinge jamb properly. A plumb bob is still the most accurate way
lol bro i just hit the comment section to say that lol , he didn't level the hinge side either lol he looked at the level and threw it on the ground . the first thing i do is bench mark my header with a line laser , i mean it is 2017 , I plumb them with a line laser also
STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!First off he did not level the top of the door jam ,STEP 1 determine desired door swing , you need to confirm you have the right door, if your a carpenter coming here for help this cat will get you fired . you need a precision 4" level for this job , or a laser. STEP 2 assemble the door as he shows you STEP3 YOU MUST LEVEL TOP JAM, if one side of the door jam needs lifted up do so using shims, pocket change or washers STEP 4 level hinge side by screwing bottom of the hinge side first and then push the top out of level so as you turn the expansion screw on the hinge side the door slowly draws into position , using the expansion anchor to push the door into position is best bot not necessary. STEP 5 push the strike plate side to match top jam dimension and fasten bottom of the door on all sides .STEP 6 turn the expansion anchor on the strike plate side untill snug . and FYI if this takes you 20 min your fired, and i dont say that to be mean its just that installing the frame alone should take under 10 min . you could maybe have an operating door in 20 min but im not sure what he ment by that , even this video is only 9 min
Sorry to add... What happened with your Jamb Levels and Framing Square...? A Try square bubble level is so wrong to use... The Jamb could be bowed and Twisted from shipping...
Set these frames with true levels ,you don't always have areas to accommodate lasers. ,and lasers are not an the best way ,as they also need calibrating . Always set these frames perfectly the first time ,as the painters will caulk and prime them soon after ,and the wall finishes and base material will be installed up to the jambs , by the time a finished door is scheduled to be hung ,and if it is out ,you have trouble !! Now you have to move the frame ,and and disturb the finishes . The door frame is 99% of the door ,my friends ,if it is done right ,you hang the door and walk away .
Guys like this spend more man hours correcting everything than the initial installation. Fun times when a change order is submitted for redoing wallpaper or caulking/painting.
Is it easier to install one that has a welded frame? I have my eye on one brand that has that as the only difference, but the one with the welded frame does not come in-swing, only out..call to the company some guy told me I could just reverse it for in-swing. I don't feel comfortable enough with that answer, if that is true than why do they also make in-swing.
Hoowa! I picked them up today and opened one of them and am VERY impressed! I did order those with the welded frames mainly because they costed only slightly more and all the reviews were more positive on them. The thing is stunning, the way they crate them is a work of art in itself..I think I made the right choice getting the welded frame, again very impressed.
Why is the camera so far away? Why didn’t he show any close ups? Why is he even installing? Why in these type of videos the walls are perfect and not real world scenarios? Why not a lot of things. I’ve installed a lot of hollow metal and ITS NEVER AN EASY INSTALL.
Wow! Can't even count all the crazy methods in this clip. And when he almost stabbed himself with his chisel! This is a perfect video for people to learn what not to do... SMH

Right !I didn’t see him level the header.
Exactly what am looking for !! Am going to take measurement my room threshold and install the door myself !

What's the size of the door opening?
How do I get in contact to you
Usually you would check the header for level before fastening frame to wall. Floors are never 100%
Right
+Scott Yes, It's ALWAYS the first thing you do.

And who the Hell uses a 3 inch level.....at least it's plumb in 3 inches
I already by the door at Sheridan
If I wanted the door to swing the other way, could I just flip the whole door and frame around?
I love how your into/outro music is about 3-4x what your vocals are.
header gets set first and you need a 4 foot level at minimum not a speed square with a level ..I use a laser ..
poisonousmangos I laughed when he pulled out that out

NOBOX7,good info!thanks! What is the rough opening compared to the jam?
Same as a wood door/jam? 1/4"?
Why not measure the width of the frame before you hang the door ?
Do these come apart just as easy?
Is there enough play if the floor isn’t perfectly level or would you need to cut in that case?
Don't cut the frame. Yes they come apart the same. Don't learn from this video
Yes I have the right door and I am the owner.
What is the price of door installation

I'd hate to follow him on punch list

Holy crap. He doesn't know how to install this frame
This is how you do it wrong lol
I would not hire this guy.
Why??
not satisfied with the way this guy installs frames
incompetent
What a dope. Didn't even level the header. Don't do it how this guy does.
