- It's time for a whole new chapter! After 1.5 years of van life in the US and Canada, this is the week we've been waiting for - taking the ferry across the Gulf of California to start van life on mainland Mexico. Overlanding Mexico is going to be a whole new world for us and we're so ready for new cultures, history and landscapes to explore. Before we get there, we just have a 16 hour, overnight cargo ferry to endure, with our two dogs of course.

We're Chesca and Ben, and with our two pups River & Scout (🐶 🐶 ) we live and travel full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. We spent the past 2 years road tripping as much of Europe as we could, from the wild coasts of Portugal to the Syrian border in Turkey, tackling lockdowns and a van re-build along the way. But now, we're feeling like a new challenge. In the summer of 2022, we'll be shipping our van from the UK to Canada, on a mission to drive her all the way to Argentina!
Thank you for taking me away for a bit from shorter days and the first of below freezing temperatures at night. Soaking up your beach vibes after the ferry which did seem very straightforward with no hiccups. Fifty miles of wide beach and no one else around was astonishing and the sand looked so soft. Wishing you and River and Scout glorious days and fascinating adventures. Having never been to Mexico you are my tour guides and I couldn't have asked for a more lovely couple to 'travel' with.. Wow that was an experience on the boat. But totally well organised. They seem to do everything so chilled out. And oh my goodness, what a welcoming beach parkup at the end. I still can't believe how long you have been over there already. Where has the time gone haha. Safe Travels Both. Love and Big Hugs ❤
So easy! Such a contrast to when we got the ferry from Italy to Greece, it was an absolute shit show 😂 We’re officially halfway through now, in another 1.5 years, we’ll be back home 😳 Madness! Lots of love as always Asa ❤️

In most houses you go in it's beans and rice and a jar of Mole paste at the ready on the bench. Mole comes in many styles not all with Cacao. You guys can get a jar at the supermacado. Bags of limes are super cheap......good for Under Arm/ cuts/ stings and insect bites and of course in Guacamole and Salsa. Nothing like Huavos Rancheros ....chillies salsa over eggs and tortillas for breakfast with a good coffee.....sets you up for the day.

Papaya seeds are good for upset stomachs
Best is aged tequila that you drink like a good whiskey low and slow as the sun sets.

That was one efficiently loaded ferry! 😳😱😬 Did look like they had it down to a science, though. The creaks and pops the ship make would have kept me awake, too, knowing it's the ship flexing as it rides the peaks and valleys of the sea swells. 🤢 Worth the adventure, though!! ❤️❤️😎👍xx

Mainland Mexico, wow,it sure has been a beautiful journey. That beach looked amazing, and no one on it. River and Scout really do adapt well. Lots of rain and high winds here in NS last night. Some still without power in the County. We were lucky in town to not loose power. Can't wait to see next weeks video. Stay safe ❤

Well this is very exciting! Fabulous to see your journey, looked great. That ferry sounded so noisy, but so much better to stay with the fur babies all together. Wow, that beach was something else, and no-one else there too. I went to a video shoot for a band back in the day in Mexico in the most beautiful place called Tlacotalpan (prounounced something like 'clakatalpan' !!) It was near to Vera Cruz, have some great stories, I'll tell you one day x
River is the best for a comic interlude. glad you all made it to the Mexico main land. the journey continues in epic fashion.

I just love watching River and Scout, you two have the greatest travel companions. I think I have seen youtubers, Mali Mish use that campground in La Paz, they are in the Yucatan right now. That was a great beach, soooo long. Enjoy the adventures ahead before Sophia has to ferry again. Take care!

Jess your Spanish sounded 👌 and they understood you clearly and no doubt you've practised the pronunciations lol you are a very organised girl and i can see you practising the language. Another great vid guys! I don't think we would have slept at all on that ferry - you must have been exhausted by the end of the journey. You certainly got a good spot where they parked you (well done Ben for getting in there!). How did the dogs cope without being able to roam as much as normal? I think ours would have been a bit discombobulated with it all. The beach looked amazing like a much bigger version of Woolacombe - you have certainly visited some amazing beaches this year; very jealous haha.
The dogs were fine really. We’d taken them out for a big burn out already and they’d walked loads around the ferry port while we were waiting. They were so busy smelling everything on board the ferry it wasn’t a big deal that they couldn’t run, it was enough to plod around and investigate! I do think the loud noises were getting to River, she didn’t sleep very well. Nothing fazes Scout so he was as good as gold! Haha yes, a bigger version of Woolacombe. Just a tad warmer 😂🧡

Hey Guys, I’m here at last.. hope you’re well! So excited for this new adventure. Ah that campsite is paradise.. 16 hours? Well that’s lord of the rings extended edition sorted then! Cheap water 💦 is always good! Nothing like chaos and confusion at a port you’ve never been to before.. I’m so impressed at your Spanish skills though.. nothing wrong with being early! I’m too early sometimes.. I’d imagine the guys who directed you into that space have been good at Tetris their whole lives.. I absolutely love ferries, love watching the water go by.. “moley moley moley” haha.. Austin powers! 😂.. looks very green, and palm trees 🌴 are wonderful, also that beech has an amazing view! 50 miles! 😮 same with me, I spoke Lithuanian to people in Lithuania and was responded to in English.. I don’t think it means anything maybe more a case of them trying to make it easier on us! Anyway, enjoy the beach 🏖️ and see you next time! Sending love from a cold and wet Devon x
Haha never thought to measure time on the ferry in terms of Lord of the Rings. That should be my default! 😂 The ferry workers were absolutely Tetris kings! Incredible how they packed everything in. So glad someone got the Austin Powers reference too 😂🧡

As a long distance lorry driver myself and years of experience on ferries across to Ireland and Dover to Calais , can I just say Ben that was a nice piece of driving, to get in that gap , lorry decks on ferries usually are rammed like that . Lovely stretch of beach .
It was incredible! Between the three of them they got it in in no time. Bens taken longer to park at the supermarket sometimes 😂
I suspect the cab next to you ran the engine as it was needed for a refrigerated trailer.

Not the most comfortable ferry trip we’ve ever done! Saying that, it beats the one we did from Italy to Greece 😂🧡
The system for boarding there, looks a bit willi-nilli compared to how it's done at Dover and Calais. And now we know that there is more to driving than just in a straight line..., well done Ben. I've asked this once before and i'm sure that every moment you're both not on camera, you're sat with heads burried in your spanish language books. How's the Spanish coming on..., well as I heard, it seems to be quite good..., top marks! Buen viaje !
It probably is more chaotic than Dover, but it was infinitely better than our Italy to Greece ferry a few years ago! That was absolute chaos 😆 The Spanish is okay, its understanding what they say back that’s the hardest part! But we’re getting there. Being immersed in it everyday is helping loads 🙏🧡

Thank you for again a very interesting video! The noise on the ferry was incredible! Scout and River are so well mannered/trained! I find it very cute how River is sitting, pressing herself in the back of the seat and dozing off there 🙂. Where is Scout's prefered place when you are driving?
She usually sits like this if the sun is hot on the seat, otherwise she lies across my lap! Scout sits in the footwell and often hops up to look out of the window 😀🐾

Small q.; Scout looks quite uncomfortable sitting in the front of the van.. isn't there a dog 'bed' kind of thing _which is not too hot- where she can sit + ly down in?
It was River in the front seat with me! She’s sat in that seat since she was 8 weeks old and usually lies down across my lap or curls up comfortably. But sometimes if the sun is hot and shining on the seat she’ll sit up like that. We’ve tried getting her to lie down in the foot well when she does that but she just wants to be in the front seat. She doesn’t sit like it for long and we do have air con so she’ll settle. But thank you for the concern 🙏🧡

When you get to Argentina, are you driving back to Canada or taking a boat from Argentina? In the 1800s, my Great Uncle sailed around the tip of Argentina.
