Great tutorial! No time-wasting pauses, no straying from the point, just as a tutorial should be.
Wow, Thank you so much. I was hitting my head against a wall trying to get a recovery disk to run - - running the normal recovery disks on the UEFI without doing these steps runs fine until you try to repair at which point it tells you the OS version is incorrect. As soon as I added the extra steps to the recovery disk it worked perfectly -- Thank you Again!
That was a good presentation. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. No small effort.
Bro I would like to give you a BIG THANKS! THANK YOU! Good Explanation and also it worked properly. Thank You! :)
still work in 2020, thank you so much
No efi folder?
Find on another folder, like "6/windows/boot/efi"
youre awesome dude, thanks!!! Just installed win 7 in my linux based driver
I can´t see this efi folder: a. In the archive go to “/1/Windows/boot/efi”
I did this and my installer hung right at the point after the Installer Windows logo animation.
Trying to get WIndows 7 to run on modern hardware, i.e. Ryzen 7950x using an ISO with USB drivers and a ton of other drivers rolled into it.
The last step 8 is not necessary.
Also, the description should make it clear that only Windows 7 64-bit supports UEFI-booting so you must use a 64-bit version (not 32-bit).
You can use RMPrepUSB to format a large USB drive as FAT32. Tick the 'Boot as HDD' option.
Please would you consider making a video on how to make a gparted live UEFI bootable USB stick, it would be so very useful to many, thanks.
THX! ASUS A53B Notebook UEFi Boot work :) [Windows 7 Home Premium & Ultimate x64]
In case anyone is still trying to use this video: I don't think he said explicitly but this only works with x64 versions of win 7 (thus the x64 part of the file name bootx64.efi). If you can't find any EFI folders or files it's probably because you're looking at a 32 bit version.
Hello there, thank you for the easy to follow steps and clear instruction on how to make bootable usb. May I ask whether can I make the usb in NTFS instead of FAT32 format?
+kiyowo xuan nah but u can copy it from a ntfs formated disk to an fat32 format :P
I can't find file bootmgfw.efi in my archive. There's no folder EFI ny such directory!
does it matter for this process whether you format to fat32 or ntfs?
Thank you very much. Really a good tutorial and that really works. Thank you very much.
Hola. Cuando instalo Windows 7 en modo uefi me convierte el disco en gpt??
Hi , thanks for Tutorial and thumbs UP , appreciating other work.
Isnt easier just to convert disk to GPT disk ?
Using Diskpart will format whole HDD, most of PPL had documents on ex: Partition D
great video you solved my problem ty!
Thanks for he tutorial, i followed all the steps but, when i reboot the computer it does not start from the USB there is an error.i am using Dell latitude 5480. i will appeciate your help
you are the best
Will it work for win 7 32 bit as well?
it work for my asus maximus 8 thx a Lot 😃
It worked for me (Win 7 Home x64)
hi shall i copy or cut the files in Microsoft folder
Step by step im use stil not working my pc is dell
where to download the iso win 7
windows install error code: 0x80070490(windows setup cannot find allocation to store temporary installation files. to install windows, make sure that a partition on your boot disk has at least 699 megabytes(MB) of free space.)
does not work on the lenovo MIIX300 tablet
I did all the following steps but I still getting error saying load cd/dvd drivers on installation stage.
tengo una salida 2.0 pero el disco tiene una entrada 3.0. sera compatible?
NOT SO FATS! Does not work with Windows 32-bit installer on an Acer Aspire 3 A315-33 that only allows 64-bit OSs.
Is this method work on my new asus motherboard max viii
Thank you worked
for me
work on me thanks men how can we check if its uefi after format :D
Worked. 10x.
Did you keep the Microsoft folder after copying contents to EFI ..? completely jumped past that part ... arrgg
Yes, everything I didn't explicitly delete is kept
Is there a way to make a copy of my current boot drive (Samsung 850 evo) and paste it to a 960 evo m.2? And then ultimately boot with the copied 960 evo m.2 drive or do i have to do a clean install of windows?
Yes, there is an easy way. Use Macrium Reflect its free, to clone the boot drive to a file, then copy that image file to the new drive. You may have to resize some of the data partitions, but I've done it many times and it works fine.
Hey thanks for the quick reply brotha i had a few newb questions
I clone the evo 850 to a M2 SSD card using Macrium Reflect
1. Do i then restart my pc with just the cloned M2 SSD card inserted?
2. Will my pc detect it and boot from it upon startup with out a fresh install of windows 7?
3. Will i have to start my PC in a different BIOS setting with the m2 SSD card upon boot?
4. What LGA 2011 MOB would you recommend is best for this task and will have no issues booting from an M2 card? (im upgrading my MOB with out a fresh install)
thanks dude it worked
There was no EFI folder inside the ../install.wim/1/Windows/Boot/ Does this only work for 64-bit?
yes
Can you give me Windows 7 iso? mine is diferrent
it's working thanks
Please Anyone give me hole efi folder .
Please I delete my win 7 efi folder by mistake .
Need help guys, after I select my removable to boot it says "EFI USB Device (Removable) has been blocked by the current security policy "
Hi CodeCowboyOrg, I have a question about this UEFI boot on USB.. I have this HP ZBook Studio G3 that we're having a problem with. It will say that "No device were found error".. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks
cons_line I think you should use: Rufus and choose it in GPT when you build the pendriver boot by Rufus aplication. When I tried to used it mbr it didn't work
Doesn't seem to work on my thinkpad t420
although it could be because my flash drive tends to be a bit... weird at times
Did you format your FLASH drive to be FAT32?
i tried to format FAT32 but it says my PEN has to much volume and cant be instaled my PEN has 60GB maybe i should buy on of 8GB :/
my disk is a m2 , the new "ssd" thats why i cant install windows 7 , this tutorial would fix my problem ? or i need to get some drivers to install ?
@@leonardolopes5831 yes, use a smaller usb pen drive like 8gb or 16gb. 32gb+ and greater size usb drives cannot be formatted as fat32 in windows
Do you know why the USB is not popping up on the boot list? It does pop up when i format it and dont have anything on it (Normal USB)
is it because your BIOS is set to non-UEFI or Legacy boot, one or the other
Or maybe both?
CodeCowboyOrg
Hey CodeCowboyOrg: I followed your instruction, everything worked but when I tried to install the windows and when the OS was loaded, there is no drive (Samsung 960 Pro M.2) So basically everything worked but now Windows 7 can't find the drive to install the OS. Any idea?
is it ssd with 32gb or 64 gb or ust a plain hdd storage
Hey
Does it have to be FAT32? I have a custom 'install.wim' file which is approx 12.5GB (updated as of 27th oct as well as software) so it wont copy, will this still work with ntfs format?
Auld Crow I think whatever (fat32 or NTFS). However, to me it only worked in a GPT format flash drive boot. That is the point. I figured out that Flash drive boot using a MBR format doesn't Work, unless your PC owns a hibrid "BIOS" Format (UEFI AND No-UEFI) or Legacy bios (no-UEFI) at all. I use Rufus aplication to build a flash drive boot.
Best video
will it work for gpt ?
I've used a SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 (Dual OTG-PC) drive and when I try to active the partition, command prompt display this message: "the selected disk is not a fixed mbr disk". But it supose that the disk was cleaned and must be GPT for UEFI, why? Anyway, I tried with a USB 2.0 Kingston and worked.
me too
ThePowerslave6697 have you tried to do all Step? I Mean : Clean 》 create partition primary 》 active 》 so on. If not, i think you hdd is corrupt. In this case try either to scan it by "hddregeneration", or replacing the Hdd to make sure
Hey Guys. When I try to extract "install.wim" file it's given me a error mensage, it's something like: "user held no privileges to ...". Is that because I am trying to extract it from a windows 8.1 ISO instead of Windows 7 ISO like the video does ? I used 7zip to extract it ...
Michel Pereira you just need to copy files in the iso, no need to copy bootx64 for win 8.1
Gamer's Arena Thank you. Actually I found out that, in order to extract install.wim, the Microsoft calls it "to unmount". I can do that by using the properly commands which I don't remember now in mind but I've wrote it down. I was Just doing a test for myself, like a sort of experince on my lab. Thanks again
Welcome and checkout my channel
Hey CodCowboy, when I copy the content of the ISO inside the USB (an SSD with two partitions - 16Gb and 97Gb) it says that install.win is too big for the fat32. Why we use this fs? can I format that partition in ntfs or exfat (or whatever you'd suggest)?
Thank you so much.
same problem
David Montenegro+Tanmay Agrawal It's because of the Fat32 filesystem 4Gb largest file limit.
You can't put more than 4Gb large file on a Fat32 filesystem. Use ntfs instead.
no ufi folder
Thank you!
Well, there was no EFI folder inside the ../install.wim/1/Windows/Boot/
Any solution?
are you using the 64 bit version?
I wasn't. I was trying to use an installer with both 32 & 64 bit images. When I got the 64 bit ISO from microsoft's website, all the files were there in the EFI folder.
go to ../install.wim/6/Windows/Boot/ check folder number 6 or some other number
I don't have the EFI file what to do ?
download the 64 bit version
It went to boot from the flashdrive then on the screen it said "System boot fail" any help:(
if the BIOS where you want to boot supports a boot file system that is NTFS, you can use NTFS. I had to use NTFS in some situations, but not all of my computers supported NTFS during boot.
i'm failed to try this trick,, help me
need the download link of this iso
You will need to enter a valid key www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
for all ppl that not find EFI folder inside the ../install.wim/1/Windows/Boot/
then look inisde other folders /install.wim/2/Windows/Boot/
/install.wim/3/Windows/Boot/
etc..../install.wim/X/Windows/Boot/
you can find EFI folder becouse you maybe have both version or more than 2 version but the problem is when i boot show this :
file : \efi\microsoft\boot\bcd
error : 0xc0000000d
Info : An Error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data
i used fat32 and ntfs .... my install.wim is install.esd in my iso .. but same files inside
how i fix this error
@CodeCowboyOrg
good job
great!!!
Thanks
there was no EFI folder inside the ../install.wim/1/Windows/Boot/
its in the 64-bit version
there is a solution for 32 bits ?
32 bit windows 7 doesn't support uefi
install.wim won't open with 7zip and winrar
then your install.wim file is likely corrupted and you should get a new one.
the win7 sp1 install.wim file that I have on a usb stick opens up in both 7zip & winrar
Couldn't find efi in 1/windows/boot/
../install.wim/6/Windows/Boot/
didnt work for me... Aspire ES1-533
this didn't work on my skylake laptop.
Watch at 1.75 x speed.
Thanks me later.
can you upload the file of efi please ........
You can get it from a Windows 8.1 or 10 ISO, if a bootable USB drive has been created. the 'efi' file is a part of these OS's that can be freely downloaded. I'm not sure that we can link a download to a standalone 'efi' file, even if one exists for such. This isn't The Pirate Bay, so we can't 'disassemble' Windows & offer to upload a portion, otherwise Microsoft would be swarming us like sharks in an ocean. Just follow the tutorial, or find one a bit easier to understand. For me, my first attempt didn't go through either, am a hardware enthusiast, not as good on the software end, other than to install drivers, slipstreaming where needed & post install of drivers. At any rate, my Windows 7 UEFI install is running great, although if I had it to do over again, since am dual booting both OS's, would had created the MSR & system partitions with W10, created the needed space for Windows 7, also 10, then back out of that install & go for the W7 one. That way, all of the needed partitions, (3 or 4) to include one small amount of unformatted space, as well as another in FAT32, would be in the front prior to the W7 install, then W10, lastly Linux Mint 18.1. Plus the system partition would be 500MB, not 100MB. Unfortunately, I didn't consider that when I first installed Windows 7, was my first setup of a dual boot of W7 & 10 (tri-boot if LInux Mint is counted). You'll get the experience that you need in due time, you simply must persue the answer in a way that you can understand. Few, if any of these Tutorials, are going to offer download links to these files, it's against the Windows license to disassemble, reverse engineer (even if that means a positive outcome), we're not speaking of Linux OS's here, where everything is 100% free, rather a proprietary OS in Windows. It's not the way we like it, rather the way things are. Cat
I have loaded win 7 pro 64bit and did all you said and turned the laptop on expecting it to boot and got security boot fail.
Any suggestions
disable secure boot in bios
Is there any fraud in computer files?
doesn't work 😢
Do you like potatoes or french fries ?
doesn't work
hey I am getting the following screen upon booting from the USB....

I am running a system76 kudu laptop...any ideas??
any help is appreciated

timmy s U have to rebuild your bcd file on the usb key boot from Win dvd boot or if you can boot to windows u can do it with cmd with Administrator wright.
So go on the letter of your usb drive for ex. D: type D: enter and type "bootrec /rebuildbcd" without quotes that's all.
Sorry for my english. There is a good tuto here ruclips.net/video/81iXN-ENb8s/видео.html
Good luck.
Duc Marron hey man thanks for your reply! after a few days of killing myself over this, I went ahead and installed windows 10 without problems.......I explained to Microsoft support that win7 wouldn't install for me and so they confirmed the validity of my win7 product key and gave me a win10 key.
this didn't work
ribet
I'm stuck. Windows in boot option recogize my drive, but when i click enter, i'm continusly seeing Windows bootup Image stopped. Help?
windows can not find install.wim any ideas
Vasil Kunchev I think it's because you have "Install.esd" in, not "Install.wim".
I have this problem and looking for a way to extract somme files not all the image, perhaps with DISM.exe mount and extract the files you need.
You have to clean your mount-point after all the opération if not the folder will still remain on your disk and no way to remove it just clean mount-point with DISM.
There is an alternative to command line for DISM it's in the windows AIK package.
I'm trying to install Win10 on a iMac without bootcamp or hack so i'm in another world🤣😅 now... If I have success I'll make a vids... I'll be back😅
