It's so strange how people complain about workers asking for a 40% raise but don't bat an eye when *one person* takes home $29 million dollars in *one year* (as if that single person is worth hundreds of times more than than the labor of thousands). Stand strong UAW! We support you.

I totally agree, but thats not the issue really at play here. The reason the deal has been so hard to come by (at least one of the major reasons) is Tesla. Tesla simply is too competitive, undercutting GM, Ford and Stellantis in prices while maintaining double their overall margins purely on EVs. Just to give you a scope of how insane that is, GM, Ford and Stellantis aren't even making money on their EVs overall, so for every extra EV they produce, they remove one of their profitable cars from the market, loosing them even more money.
Thats not to say UAW workers don't deserve wage increases, as they do, but thats the situation at hand.
In simpler terms, Ford, GM, and Stellantis are dying a slow and gruelling death.

Hell yeah UAW stand up for what you deserve!! The fact that the people running Fords had the audacity to say that giving their workers a 46% pay bump would bankrupt them when their profits are PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE, a company that made over 20 billion dollars this year, a record profit, isn’t allowed to pull the whoa is me card. It would cost them less than 1/20th of those profits to give every single employee at Fords that raise… Just do the right thing Ford, please. This isn’t unreasonable at all, it’s literally just giving back what the workers gave up to save your arses during the economic downturn which was 15 YEARS AGO! Crazy.

Like you said your assembly workers… you assemble…. There are thousands of small companies that actually produce the parts your screwing together…. P.s. they are NOT union companies, so you are putting together vehicles with part produced by by non union workers…. Most but not all of the worker NON SKILLED putting together parts that other people produced doesn’t mean you deserve some crazy ass contract….. pretty soon union made vehicles will cost so much that people will just go to the foreign made car because they will be cheaper… think about it… you shop at Walmart cuz it’s cheaper….. what if the Walmart employees asked for a 43% pay increase and now you have to pay 43% more for your fruit loops you would be very upset… I am not against a fair contract but this ridiculous… 32 hour work weeks and 5 week’s vacation who gets that? There is less then 1% of the people in this county that get 5 weeks of vacation and 17 days payed holidays…… As a tool and die maker for 28 year if I went to my boss and demanded what your asking they would laugh me right out of the office and I’m skilled trade….. 2 years of schooling and 4000 hours of training…. Not here’s a part put it there with this tool…. Like I said most not all of you…. Good luck with your strike I hope you get a fair contract…. Think about your friends and neighbors and what they make and then think about what you’re asking for….. most would be shocked

This advice is mostly for YOUNG people in their 20s. Obtain job SKILLS such that you are VALUABLE in the market place. Yes. This can be hard to do when you are working 40 hours a week in an auto factory. Take some night classes at a community college. Consider getting into the trades, etc. ALSO, Learn how to handle your money. SAVE your money and when you have enough money for a down payment then BUY a home and DON'T rent. When you are 65 then it is much better to have a PAID OFF HOUSE versus renting. Stay away from drugs and alcohol.
IF you are a parent with kids still in grade and high school then do whatever it takes to instill personal responsibility to acquire job skills. You want your kids to have a better life than you have.

Personal responsibility is decent advice, but remember, there's always an underclass in capitalism. The poor make the system work. The poor are necessary and efforts to expand the lower classes will always be made.
If everyone was perfectly responsible and highly educated the value of those traits falls to zero. You can be forced into the underclass regardless of your efforts.

The goal is to apply maximum pressure without emptying the strike fund. The corporations could easily endure 11 weeks of a universal strike. Once the money is gone the workers would be forced back to work and the corporations could move to decertify the Union contract.
Moving forward, if the factories can't operate they'll have to lay off the rest of the workers and they can apply for UI, which is funded through the corporation.

It's 36% over 3 years so 12% a year for people who make $15 an hour so an extra $5-6 an hour after a few years is what they're asking for and they don't even want it all up front just spread out over 3 years so $1.50-$2 extra a year. These people use to make $28 prior to the companies having to be bailed out with taxpayer dollars so now the companies are doing well it should get pay increase.

The reality in 2023 is normally if someone isnt happy with their pay they just leave. Maybe they'll do you the courtesy of calling to say they quit but usually they just ghost you. Going on strike means they still want the job and are willing to talk.

open the borders on the south side yo. They'll work for it. I remember delivering auto parts to the Detroit Ford plant when i was a delivery van driver. No one wanted to come out and unload the car parts out of the van to keep the assembly line running because they were on their "break". Maybe one day there won't be humans working in auto factories...................just machines that run off of electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics. But seriously......................i'm positive that those "illegal immigrants" would be the last people to go on strike...........they are what actually keeps inflation from running amock.

Learn something from Huawei. The funder of Huawei Renzhenfei only holds 0.75% of Huawei stocks and rest of 99.25% all goes to the employees. This is why Huawei employees are so innovated, empowered, hard working and united firmly under the US sanction. Because all the employees are coloctively the majority stock holders.
