To shauns point about the CEO's performance based salary. Even when the CEO's salary goes down it does not affect their quality of life in the same way it would a normal worker a 40% paycut for a worker could make them homeless. The CEO still has multiple houses. So yes its relative, so when people say the union is asking for too much, look at the starting wages for new workers on the new payscale and see if that's a livable wage. In The post office we start slightly higher but its still not a living wage since the new workforce is under a new reduced payscale and is under what it takes to live in places like New york or big metros in Florida. Too many industries are paying poverty wages and calling these jobs careers.
Jobs do not exist to guarantee a certain lifestyle. Jobs exist so that the organization can provide a specific good or service. People are compensated for their time and skill level. Quit whining about what the CEO makes. If you want CEO pay, become a CEO.
@@kevinm.8682 whos talking lifestyle? clearly only those in management are able to think about “lifestyle” Im talking basic living if you work full time and recognized as a career employee. People are free to work there or not. If it doesnt pay enough then get a job somewhere else that does. If enough people quit then the market will cause a pay adjustment organically
Unions are a disaster. Go get Mexicans and Chinese workers to do their work. They will do it for half the pay! Strikes and unions are going to keep inflation sticky in that 3-4% range.

At some point people have to draw a line in the sand and fight for what is right. Can't keep rolling over and playing dead. Corporations have to stop their greedy ways.
I really hope they keep asking these questions over and over again until they admit it's COMPLETELY BONKERS they earn THAT much more compared to their Workers. If we loose the American auto industry it is NOT because of the workers. It’s because of the people at the top. What power do the workers have? Who designs the cars, not the workers, who accepts or rejects what kind of parts they’re going to use, not the workers, who sets the prices of the vehicles. Not the workers. The last time any workers salary was on par with inflation was back in the 60’s.
That is why I buy Toyota. Much better anyway. American cars are unreliable and overpriced. Most likely due to the unions. Won’t be an issue when the plants are overseas.
I think a pay increase for the lack of raises in the last decade is a must, but asking for a 40% increase because the CEO got it is just a childish argument. The stress, long hours, and tough decisions that are carried by the CEO are 24/7. Workers at the factories clock out and don’t have to think about work until their next shift. I understand there needs to be an increase for the workers, but let’s be realistic and fight for a real competitive wage increase and stop comparing yourself to the CEOs of the big three. That’s just my 2 cents; take it however you want
No they just haven't had proper union leadership until now. If they had been fighting for them all this time, they wouldn't have to make such a broad leap now. Same thing with minimum wage and how it should technically be about $24 an hour adjusted for inflation.
No, they're just educated, at least. Money is a fallacy and isn't real. We print it. Congress could make minimum wage $50 tomorrow. Prices would just adjust. Wealthy people's money wouldn't go as far. That's why they fight wage increases. Their $30 million a year salary, would only be like 3 million in the new money ratio. Or their 100 million in savings would only go as far as $25 million of new products. Because everyone on the minimum level would have $50 per hour.

The Union leaders definitely didn't feel the pain like their union brothers or they would have acted much than fighting for benefits after a couple of decades sooner; in my humble opinion.
As much as it pains me to say it, federal investigations found corruption in the top levels of the UAW stemming back to before the 2015 contracts with the UAW. Bribes were offered and taken to sell the workers short. Finally this year workers got to directly vote for the president of the UAW, and we elected Shawn Fain. The people in our union decided on our leader, and finally we are all standing up because we have leadership willing to take the stand that we have all been calling for since these concessions were given to save the companies. In The post office we start slightly higher but its still not a living wage since the new workforce is under a new reduced payscale and is under what it takes to live in places like New york or big metros in Florida. Too many industries are paying poverty wages and calling these jobs careers.
Then dont work there , find a new job
@jeffreykidwell3335 whats the point of a union if you dont fight for better?
Jobs do not exist to guarantee a certain lifestyle. Jobs exist so that the organization can provide a specific good or service. People are compensated for their time and skill level. Quit whining about what the CEO makes. If you want CEO pay, become a CEO.
@@kevinm.8682 whos talking lifestyle? clearly only those in management are able to think about “lifestyle” Im talking basic living if you work full time and recognized as a career employee. These ppl are only ones thinking ahead and getting compensated for cost of living, in large metro areas housing alone can go as high as 40% last three years.
Yes, the CEOs should take a haircut, but that’s just about as likely as getting Congress to give themselves pay cuts. What will happen is that legacy autos will just ship the jobs overseas or automate.
At some point people have to draw a line in the sand and fight for what is right. Can't keep rolling over and playing dead. Corporations have to stop their greedy ways.

I'm surprised it is actually that much. 3 middle of the road plants make up 8%? Maybe the writing was already on the wall.
I really hope they keep asking these questions over and over again until they admit it's COMPLETELY BONKERS they earn THAT much more compared to their Workers.
There should be 20 to 1 cap for CEO PAY: Twenty times the amount their lowest salaried employee makes.
That's MORE THAN FAIR, and MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!!
You're going to have idiots or puppets running the show, the current CEO will just work in a different line of work or work with a different title and stay behind the scenes in the shadow.
How much did these " workers " invest into the company to build these factories and supply lines ? I got a GREAT idea , lets split the cost of the next factory being built and every one after that between ALL the workers so they can get their " fair share " of the expenses these shareholders and investors put into the company to make their millions

GOOD. CEOs getting 40+. Tell them to take 21 and shove it!

Chrysler only offered a 21% increase
Instead of framing it in a way that makes the UAW look bad
ALL unions are bad
This might be a nail in the coffin for the domestic auto industry.
If the auto industry moves labor to another country, then we need to stop buying their autos. Japanese cars are fine with me.
In which way?
If we loose the American auto industry it is NOT because of the workers. It’s because of the people at the top. What power do the workers have? Who designs the cars, not the workers, who accepts or rejects what kind of parts they’re going to use, not the workers, who sets the prices of the vehicles. Not the workers. The last time any workers salary was on par with inflation was back in the 60’s.
That is why I buy Toyota. Much better anyway. American cars are unreliable and overpriced. Most likely due to the unions. Won’t be an issue when the plants are overseas.
WRONG.
I would love to get a 21 % wage increase
When I go to the office, I just throw my business suit over my pajamas too
More pay, less work. Why nobody point out the obvious, they are slackers!
Misleading headline, omitting the 40% increase in pay of upper management. 21% looks only big out of context
How much money does the president of the UAW make seems like he’s willing to cause workers harm but he’s not on strike?
He actually took a huge pay cut when he got into office, it was part of his campaign platform. It was way too bloated at the top.
Alternative headline: Chrysler parent Stellantis rejects 40% pay raise.
Their getting greedy now
No they just haven't had proper union leadership until now. If they had been fighting for them all this time, they wouldn't have to make such a broad leap now. Same thing with minimum wage and how it should technically be about $24 an hour adjusted for inflation.
*they're
No, they're just educated, at least. Money is a fallacy and isn't real. We print it. Congress could make minimum wage $50 tomorrow. Prices would just adjust. Wealthy people's money wouldn't go as far. That's why they fight wage increases. Their $30 million a year salary, would only be like 3 million in the new money ratio. Or their 100 million in savings would only go as far as $25 million of new products. Because everyone on the minimum level would have $50 per hour.
In 2022, the US automakers had a 37% share of the US auto market. This is down from 95% in 1960.
Automakers have given away one market segment after the other.

Consumers are really only in a "beta testing phase" at the moment & many are unpleasant with the lack of range that were advertised. It's true that the CEOs care more about shareholders than the workers, but if it took a couple of decades for the Union leaders to fight for better wages and benefits, then the union leaders were getting paid pretty good also with other benefits because of their position.
It’s not that members didn’t care, it’s that for a long time leadership was being bought out by companies, and those people have been prosecuted.
