Hey man I have made a personal commitment to teach someone every day to beat the habit of procrastination as it will not only allow me to help others but engrain it further into myself and motivate me to live by my teachings.
What beating procrastination did for me
1. feel alot better about myself which makes me more likeable and happy
2. trust myself more and feel more worthy
3. I take my work much more seriously then those who never had the problem of procrastination as I am aware that my work is an art compared to when I used to procrastinate.
here is how to beat it.
First we must understand what procrastination is to beat it
Procrastination is ONLY the fear of stress. It has nothing to do with the work
2nd. Do NOT call your self a procrastinaor. You are a person who is procrastinating. Big difference as beliefs will shape your identity
Now how to actually beat it
couple things
Do you have a dopamine addiction?
Are you addicted to food, porn, tv, phone
That must be addressed first
Do a dopamine detox where you cut out all the things you are addicted to for 24-48 hours
This is extremely powerful which no one does.
Once you did that do these 2 things
1. Approach your work with the main goal of developing the habit of initiative. Taking constant action until the stress is getting moderately uncomfortable. Then do it again later that day
The more you put into it, the faster you will develop the HABIT of the initiative.
Its about the result. not time
Try your best to not fall into old habits of procrastination.
Also, the hardest part is starting the task you are procrastinating on. Once you start it will be very easy to continue!
2nd. Tell atleast one other person each day the power of developing this necessary habit of initiative and how spectacular they will be once they demolish the deadly habit of procrastination espceially if they desire to become leaders!
Please comment any questons as it will not only help you, but it will help me feel better about myself for helping others and remind me of the power of developing initiative! take care my man

I am currently receiving treatment for cancer and have been unable to work since January. Some days, I just react to what’s happening , snd others I actually plan what I’ll be doing. Obviously, the latter is preferable. With my initial cancer diagnosis, I was truly facing my own mortality. I truly will feel memento mori every day of my life now as this cancer may come back, or I could get hit by a bus! This video today was so helpful to help me be mindful to not waste my precious time here on this earth. Thank you, Ryan.
I loved the phrase "people have been procrastinating for thousands of years" 😂 Yep, I can relate!
you're thousands of years old?!
I like " have I done my best in this moment?" Not focusing on perfection, but action. Action before Perfection.
The only thing that makes sense striving for is a state of "good enough". Perfection can never be achieved in an ever-changing world
“Do you ask what the proper limit to weath is? It is first, to have what is necessary, and, second, what is enough.” - Seneca
in deed... perfection is a state of illusion with perceived boundaries to think
@@JordanMorrison1989 I like that
Perfection is artificial, nothing in nature is perfect everything has flaws in some way, but those flaws are the reason why we appreciate the better side of things more
Perfection is the enemy of progress
Speaking of routine: "If you wanna be a writer, write" - Epictetus. Now, what did this man mean by this quote? He meant that if you want to do something, anything, you should do it so often it becomes second nature to you. If you want to write, write so often that you don't even think about it when you sit down and get to it.
When I have been at my best while writing, I have felt that. That I just sit my ass down into the chair and open up the word-document without even thinking about it.

I was just watching this casual video and then asked to my self: "why this youtuber has so many copies of the book that I am reading?" 5 seconds later: "OMG is the author!"
I’m an author, and I do a million things before I ever find the time to write.
I’m also a completionist. My upcoming book is based on research, meaning that I need to read +20 books to finish my own.
It’s been 7 years in the making now.
Action before perfection! A whole lotta gears just shifted! Thank you!
"One thing that fools have in common is they are always delaying to live." I am going to make myself a plaque with that.
Ryan, you might not realise this, but this is one of the best videos you've recorded on Stoicism. Although subtitles weren't available for this video, I’ve listened to it over and over and written down every piece of wisdom you mentioned. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙏🏻
The similarities drawn up between being too busy and being a couch potato really resonated with me. Ryan pointing out how having so much too do that it is beyond your bandwidth is a form of procrastination really added a much needed view to my perspective on productivity and procrastination. I now feel that having too much on my plate is maybe my way of trying to procrastinate thinking deeply about what really matters to me. Great video.
"For the first step toward Wisdom is an earnest desire for discipline" Wisdom 6:17
Developing systems to overcome procrastination has been extremely helpful since I’ve been practicing Stoicism.
Don't let your imagination be crushed by life as a whole. Don't try to picture everything bad that could possibly happen. Stick with the situation at hand, and ask, “Why is this so unbearable? Why can't I endure it?” You'll be embarrassed to answer. -- Marcus Aurelius.
This one quote has literally changed my life. Every time I read this it inspires me.
I've learnt from my last year of stoicism, is that my perfectionism causes me to procrastinate.
It is a slow process to let things go when you feel they are half baked, or to even accept work that in your view is not whole, or to your standard. This is not easy.
One step at a time....objective to finish it...push more...
Perfect is the enemy of "good and done."
Thank you for introducing stoicism to young kids like myself. This is helped me more so then anything else ive triedd.
thank you

The art of archery is the best book I've ever read. A classic
I'm watching your video during a break from writing, now I have to get back before it becomes Procrastination.
Best channel on youtube.
To always be in the middle of a book / script, that's very helpful!
I needed this today, especially the last one about writing as if its your last day. I've a foundation workbook I could have finished months ago! 🤔
All you need to know is this: you're likely exaggerating your fears, and dive in and do what you need to do. Stop overthinking it. And when you do start, break it in chunks and see the parts that make up the whole.
Habit is important; if you can make a habit of things, it gets easier to do.
BTW -- part of the reason why he did this was to promote his books. Detracts from the message.

I am newbie at stoicism. Many people told me that philosophy is not that grandiose anymore, but I feel better with stoicism rather than religion
This was extremely helpful today. Thank you.
Good one! Struggling with this right now. I call it getting over the hump , things are always better on the other side.
This is absolute gold
More is not always better.Better is better.
I have one thing I'd like to change with myself. I work so hard. Hard hard hard... I'm not the kind of person who's working just because people are watching me. I work alone. Don't complain. Do everything everyone else avoids and I just do it because it needs to be done. But if I get really tired and hear complaints, usually from asskissers and lazy colleagues, I just get so tired and take a day off without explaining why. By that, I'm not helping taking away bad energy. I just feel its no points arguing with morons but... Wish I could change my attitude and don't get bothered by the talk but when I'm tired and feel unappreciated I just go away. Would like to change that

The idea of the archer shooting an arrow is a beautiful idea to explain how perfection is not the goal at hand --
if you want to hit bull's eye, you must aim, shoot and let go, not wait indefinitely until you feel you might hit perfection i.e. paralysis
Famous football defensive end JJ Watt has a similar philosophy when asked how to make the NFL. He said to break each task into smaller and smaller parts.
What is the 40 time of an NFL player?
What does an NFL draft pick bench?
What do I lift today to ultimately get to that bench number in 6 months? What time do I start at the gym? And so on and so forth
The Best thing about this video is that he doesn't solicit Like and Subscribe.

Somewhere along the line, somewhere, you MUST have some success as well. Nothing provides momentum like success. If you've never had success, you never will be successful. The guy in the vid is a tremendously successful author, so it's all easy for him to say. Someone, his mom, his dad, his uncle.....someone......even just an example..........helped and encouraged him to be a success. Without that, you are lost. Most people do not get the breaks this guy got.
Great video, Ryan, thanks. I love what you said about writing 2 crappy pages a day. I'm a writer feeling overwhelmed with rapid fire ideas.
