    At the time, I thought that Season 8 would be about the aftermath of LaGuerta's death and Dexter's downfall as the FBI gets involved. The big bad would a BHB copycat killer and Dexter would ultimately end up on his table because he now fits the code.
    Without spending too much to re-write it, mine would be this:
    Dexter kills Saxon instead of sparing him. He even tells Saxon that he can't let him live because he made that mistake with Trinity. Saxon struggles but dies. Dexter gets a phone call from Debra but he ignores it, concerned about making her an accessory to another murder. He plans to get rid of Saxon and skip town with Hannah to Argentina and give up killing.
    Something goes wrong, his boat stops working, he didn't have time for proper maintenance due to the chaos of the last 6 months. A flashback reveals that an FBI investigation almost exposed him for the death of LaGuerta, but he managed to get out of it without arousing suspicion. He does get rid of Saxon but he has to dump the body much closer to shore and then he has to call the Coast Guard to get him back to shore, destroying the alibi he planned.
    Dexter tries to frame Elway as a potential terrorist, just like in the original, but this goes really bad and attracts the attention of the FBI and Marshall Clayton starts looking into Debra's shit when he's unable to find either Dexter or Hannah, now in hiding and trying to flee the country. Dexter also becomes the prime suspect in the BHB case after Saxon's body washes up on shore after the hurricane and everyone can see it matches the BHB MO perfectly. The Coast Guard confirms Dexter was out at sea that same day in the same area they found the body, so there's a manhunt for Dexter now. Debra gets arrested as an accessory when Clayton finds evidence implicating her in both Travis' death and aiding Hannah McKay.
    Quinn has finally had enough and tracks Dexter himself, misleading the FBI so he can get to Dexter personally. Dexter is found by Quinn and it's revealed that Quinn always knew Dexter was the BHB since the ending of Season 5, but he has to turn himself in to get Debra off the hook. He allows Hannah to leave as a gesture of good will and reports on the police radio that Dexter was alone when he found him.
    Debra's is able to get a plea deal and avoid prison time, Dexter confesses to being the BHB and is sentenced to life in a supermax prison.
    Some time later, Dexter kills a guard in cold blood and escapes during a routine prison transfer, adopts the identity of Jim Lindsay and exiles himself in Oregon and later Iron Lake, setting up a potential Season 9 where he is hiding his real identity and where the stakes are much higher if anyone discovers he's Dexter Morgan as he would be arrested on sight.

      Ooh, very interesting! That would have definitely made people finding out his real identity in New Blood much higher stakes. I especially like your first idea about having a BHB copycat. Dexter could find out who it is, then struggle with whether or not he deserves to die according to the code. Because, if he did, then that would mean Dexter also deserves to die. Very cool! Great comment!

    I really like your version! It opens so many possibilities for character development. I also like your spin on Dexter's struggle while awaiting trial...
    Personally, I think that the official writers were right to keep Dexter alive. Dying would've been too easy on him! The idea that he becomes a lumberjack gives me a shred of satisfaction because it means that he is forced to... uhh- the phrase, "you've made your bed now lie in it"- ya know? He's caused too much pain and suffering to just, die, or quickly be found out and relax and be done with his whole web of lies.
    However, your version offers an equally satisfying conclusion. We see that Dexter really goes through it both internally and with his coworkers and family... inevitably everything has to come to an end. In your version, Dexter isn't let off the hook easily, and the audience gets way more connection and emotion from the supporting characters finding out about Dexter than the official version ever offered!

    Recently, I released a fan fiction rewrite of New Blood as well. It's up on my channel if you're interested.
    I dunno why they keep disappointing the fans. Showtime almost ruined Ray Donovan as well as the initial plan was to cancel Ray Donovan with no conclusion to the story.

    This would have been a good ending. I think this is pretty much the direction the writers said they wanted to sometime after the show, too. Wish they did, or at least did some alternative ending for DVD extras - or hired you to help. Ha!

    Yours is much better than what we got. Did all the writers not realize how interesting it would be and how much the fans would want to see the reactions of each of the characters we were all so invested in. They had such great characters, so why just waste them rather than tie them all into an ending. I think many of us could have written a better story to end with. They just wasted so many good opportunities. I would have fired them all and thrown the final few scripts back in their faces. They could have done a few years of a Fugitive type show with Batista chasing Dexter around the country, with Deb caught in the middle, and the other characters torn between rooting for Dexter and trying to help find and catch him.

    • @awordonfilm6290
      @awordonfilm6290  2 года назад

      It's crazy that we didn't get any reactions! And, yes, a few fugitive seasons would be so much better than we got!

    I've always thought that a good ending for dexter would be him in the electric chair, all his friends from Miami Metro behind the glass watching with expressions of anger, sadness, and disbelief even after learning the truth. That's where your whole setup for season 8 with him being caught and seeing how everyone reacts and deals with it would work perfectly before the execution scene. In the end, having everything we've watched be his life flashing before his eyes, a runback on everything he's done and how he got to where he is. His final thoughts, emotions, and then his last breath right as the switch is pulled and it all cuts to black. There is no ending music, no fancy effects, just a roll of the credits. I felt this would be one of the best endings for dexter but of course, that's my personal opinion. I also thought it would've been cool if there was a spin-off after my ending where we see life afterward, everyone's actions now that dexter is gone. Maybe even having a spin-off show for Miami Metro and them solving cases but with the thought of dexter always lurking in the background, but it wouldn't be a big part of the show, just a hint to the main series.

    I like this ending. However the audience needs to be reminded that Dexter was also an antihero. The mothers or family of one of the victims of Dexters victims should be present in the execution room or funeral. They would talk to Deb or Harrison of Dexter being their dark avenger.

    Finale is fine. Self exile is perfect for Dexter and given the fact opens his eyes to the camera is showing us he has opened his eyes to what he had/has done...as he told his own 'victims' to do.
    We see Dexter shed his first REAL tears as he laid Deb into the sea and much like the hurricane he is a force of nature that can't help but destroy everything around him.
    Having him realize this towards the end makes the finale more impactful as he spent the entire series pretending to be 'normal' and right when he feels the most human he has to exile himself to protect those he cares about.
    He could have had the same realization without Deb's death but it still works. Hannah's arc was the only issues I had. She was pointless in a lot of ways.
    They should never have veered from the source material imho. But I like the ending, just didn't like the last couple of seasons leading up to it and how they develop.

    • @awordonfilm6290
      @awordonfilm6290  4 года назад +2

      Very good points, I agree with you. The finale wasn't terrible and it does make sense, but I didn't leave feeling very satisfied. I felt like he overcame his lack of emotions quickly and without much monologue, I would've loved to see them have Dexter realize this more gradually and then have it build up to Deb's death. Thanks for commenting!

      Honestly I thought for the most part everything in the last episode made sense... except for Dexter growing a beard. And maybe a different job instead of a lumberjack. Then again just because something makes sense doesn't mean it's satisfying because you can't just end all of the show on "he got away and he's in hiding but free so he can have a spin off one day"

    Someone will disagree with what I am about to say but I don't particularly care; dexter kind of was the good guy( in the beginning) and the writers should have kept him that way concerning how he stuck to his father's code of going after bad people only; he could have ignored that and went after anyone he wanted at any time, he could have given in to the temptation of killing the security guard his brother had laid before him at the abandoned hospital or his sister at their childhood home but he chose to follow his father's rules despite his own issues with him because deep down he really didn't want to hurt innocent people and season after season was showing him striving to be a better person and was achieving that slowly especially with lumen in season 5 and brother sam in season 6, Hannah in season 7 Was the worst character ever thought of for her corruptive influence is what brought down Dexter's Integrity and ruined him from being the lovable and honorable character we all know from the books and earlier seasons,
    the show's 2 endings was I feel very disappointing because they wrote it and his character all wrong for he wouldn't have given in to his grief over the loss of his sister to where he would abandon his own son, sure he would be at his lowest for a minute but he would pull himself together and remember the promise he made to deb of how he would always be there for harrison no matter what and you can't sit there and convince me that a small town sheriff like his girlfriend angela would be able to bust a notorious killer like Dexter based on circumstantial evidence not to mention the tranquilizer formula is not the same; he never used kenimine on his targets he used M99,
    The writers should have continued adapting his story from the novels for they had tons of potential of doing and successfully pulling off a reverse breaking bad and the blacklist with the character, turning him into his very own sophisticated concierge of crime fighting with a vast network of resources at his disposal to help him hunt those that escape justice while keeping him 2 steps ahead of the people he works for in law enforcement who feels and views himself as the "the bad guy" that doesn't believe he can change but doesn't want to disappoint his father, his best friend angel, his wife, kids and sister by giving up trying with case after case and ultimate showdowns with the main antagonist of the season pushing him further and further down the path of being a honorable, righteous and semi-heroic individual with new blood being his swan song where he sacrifices himself to save his son, his son's girlfriend along with his own girlfriend from Kurt Caldwell, his son and the billionaire character they had in there that was serving as a red herring, have it where he had a connection to kurt and was involved somehow in covering up his secret of being the runaway killer and Dexter dying ending their threat once and for all thus earning his redemption which brings his story arc full circle with him ultimately breaking good,
    As for doakes the most annoying thing about him was his hypocritical attitude towards dexter when he tried to get him in trouble for just doing his job as a blood spatter specialist after he in an act of revenge shot dead a former death squad operative who was unarmed and tried to cover it up with lies which put his partner angel batista in a very uncomfortable situation of possibly turning him in to be arrested by IA until he was given a pass by the government,
    It should have been written and adapted according to the way it worked out in the books where they worked together to take down a cartel leader and doakes was severely maimed by the main antagonist dr danco to where he lost his legs and arms and tongue as a consequence for killing in cold blood that death squad operative who just so happened to be related to the villain, dexter tries to save him despite him knowing his secret but fails, he goes into a comma and dies later on in the 3rd season but Is revered as a hero cop and posthumously awarded a medal for risking his life to bring down dr danko who gets framed by Dexter as the Bay Harbor butcher,
    the same scenario can be applied but altered to the character Maria Laguerta, have the consequences of her actions in season 2 befall her in season 7 by having esme come back for revenge on laguerta for ruining her career by using her secret connections to the criminal underworld to frame her and make her look as if she's losing her mind like what laguerta did to her by sleeping with her boyfriend and have it where Debra is the one that tries to save her but fails with season 8 being the final season that deals with the fallout of that event and Dexter being the loving caring brother that he's been towards her trying to help her overcome the grief of laguerta's death all while dealing with the reign of terror from the brain surgeon, I say all of that to say that joe from the show YOU doesn't hold a candle to dexter and that dexter would have that despicable man for breakfast, lunch and dinner to feed the very jackels he came from! 🔥😁😉👍

    Anothing thing for your defense is that the entire show you ask the question if he's a good or bad guy. Give him a happy ending, Good guy. Kill him, Bad guy. That was the middle ground. Not perfect, but okay.

    In my opinion I should changed the villain in season 6 the doomsday killer could be Oliver Saxon and Travis Marshall should be his complice just to be killed by Oliver for abandon him in the spiritual ritual including his mom as the one who tried to change his son,in season 8 the villain could be a new invented I guess Ben Quinn as a family member of Joey he could be a serial killer who record his murders just at the end killing hannah and leaking all dexter info about him being the bay harbour butcher and dexter killing him and abandoning Harrison for several reasons and faking his death in the hurricane changing his name to Jim lindsay and moving to iron lake,i replace Debra with hannah cause it can make sense and connecting season 8 finale with new blood and replacing Travis with Oliver and Oliver with that character invented by me it doesn’t makes sense but season 6 could be better including doctor Vogel stuff and leading season 8 with a new villain who makes dexter life miserable.
