Disregard my saying "Oh this is short" during the video. My son came in mid-recording needing something, so I had to chop the recording into two sessions. When I glanced at the time toward the end, it wasn't an accurate timestamp for the total length of the video. Oh, and Lil Bob says 'Hi 👋'
8:02 I actually do, if I am sad, mad etc., I put on Taboo (among other albums) because it makes me feel calm and composed, even towards the end energetic. You just gotta really resonate with the sound and feel of it.
I would love if you did "House of Balloons" by The Weeknd. Its his first project ever that he made before becoming the superstar he is now, and it completely revolutionized the RnB genre. The instrumentals are very lively and complements his voice in an extremely enchanting way. He also devolves heavily into themes of drugs and lust, in a way that really takes hold of you, forcing you to become an attentive observer of the world he displays. House of Balloons is the first of its respective trilogy, with highlights such as House of Balloons/Glass Tables and The Knowing(A song that If had not exsisted, would have made my first break up beyond damaging to my mental health). Thanks for the best reactions on youtube Bob! Glad you loved Taboo, and I hope you have as great of a reaction to the next one!
Absolutely. I’d love to see his reaction of a full Weeknd project. My other two favorites that I think he should do are Beauty Behind The Madness and After Hours
Would you say hip hop gets more interesting as you dive in more? Having watched from the start it almost feels like a social experiment that should be studied in college classes about how warped perceptions can get and how much freeing yourself from preconceptions can help evolve our society and make us all more connected. Our society become more and more binary everyday with no real end in sight with media basically putting every event and story in one of two lenses that only serves the purpose of putting people in either a for or against position when almost all of life exists with nuance. This whole series to me feels like a prime example of how diving into the nuance ultimately allows for personal growth and increased connectivity. I know a lot of people shit in college but I took it very seriously and my world view and critical thinking skills increased significantly. Anyways, I have loved to watch your evolution and hope others are taking this as a learning experience on how to identify areas where your perception may have been manipulated and challenging themselves to dive into the nuance just as I have.
It's definitely more interesting to me. I'm a full on fan now. Exploring the music, hearing the stories, learning about the artists and their lives, their communities, all of it has been an incredible learning experience. I'm gaining a perspective I would have never had otherwise. And I feel like I still have so much to learn.
Loved this reaction! There hasn’t been a release from Denzel that I would even call mediocre. I’ve always seen his potential since his early days with now defunct group Raider Klan to Nostalgic64 to his most recent work. Denzel Curry is a top tier rapper. 10+ years of relevance + creative flows/cadences + heady lyrics + one of the best live performers & the man is only 27 years old. It’s crazy to me that someone wouldn’t enjoy him. It would be really cool if you were able to get to his new project close to the release date. I really think it would bring a lot of new eyes to the channel man
I've been thinking about new releases more lately, now that I'm becoming more familiar with different artists. I don't want to focus on only new albums, but working them into my own rotation short after their release would be good for the channel. Probably gonna make a video talking about this soon.
eh his mixtapes were kinda eh, he shone more with his albums espiecally Imperial onwards for sure. But lyrically he stepped up alot with TABOO compared to imperial, since imo he was kinda shoddy lyrically before then.
@@Will-bn9km Damn really? The concepts on a lot of tracks from Nostalgic and Imperial were better than Taboo to me. I also love Taboo. I grew up in an area where there was a lot of police brutality and my mental state in early high school probably drew me into those albums more. Denzel really did a good job of all the portraying the frustration I was feeling around that time.
I just recently started watching your channel and I really like how much thought you put into your vids. Seeing how much you enjoy Tyler I think you'd enjoy is "In My Mind" from Pharrell considering how much of Tyler's sound was influenced by Pharrell. It'll be like meeting your friend's dad for the first time and realizing why your friend is the way he is lol
the new denzel album features peggy production but more than likely only one track. MANY other producers have also been confirmed. praying u peep this album when it drops. great vid tho bob
I'm a fan of these doubleheaders uploads for small albums. Hopefully, by the time you get to 'Ye' by Kanye and all the Wyoming Session albums, we can get a triple header alongside Pusha's, and KSG. Also, I think that another good doubleheader artist would be Vince Staples. I think he is one of the most underrated rappers currently, and both 'FM' and 'Vince Staples' are short but at the same time, they are good quality albums, especially because both albums are different sounds in their own way
Vince is severely underrated in terms of the variety of sounds that dude can produce. Man straight up made one of my favorite experimental techno hip hop album to a bay area west coast banger album.
Current plan with Ye is to pair it with KSG since those are both shorter. Thanks for the heads up on Vince and those album lengths. Doing 2 in 1 is helpful for trying to get through this massive list.
Hey Bob, absolutely love your videos. Have to recommend Milo / R.A.P. Ferreira to you since you enjoy lyrics so much. He's a bit more underground but is really unique and I think you'd really enjoy his stuff. And then another one you may have gotten suggestions about before is Aesop Rock. dude has the biggest vocabulary in hip hop, you would have an absolute field day trying to decipher his lyrics. Keep up the great work!
It would be cool for you to check out Denzel's new singles, "Walkin" and "Zatoichi". Both are very cool and he's dropping an album soon from the sounds of it, Walkin being my personal favorite
Since you seem like someone who likes to listen to albums more, maybe just wait for the album to drop, I'm excited myself and for you to hear it either way though
Yes Denzel Curry is still very under appreciated. I really thought Taboo would be the album to make him go mainstream but it was surprising to me that it didn’t. Hopefully he does get a bit more recognition with the new album that he is working on.
We would love to see your reaction to The Weeknd's catalog. Especially the three mixtapes, his first project House of Balloons,, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. Would love to see your insights about those projects. Keep it up, you're doing a good job, sir. Love the videos
If you want to do a shorter reaction, check out the comedian Zack Fox's album that he dropped a few months ago, I think it's only like 16 minutes? Very very funny, without trying too hard. His rapping originally went viral on Kenny Beats' show with a different song. I think you'd get a kick out of it
What you said about Taboo being a progressive descent reminded me of a totally different album, Pelagial by The Ocean. It's a metal album so musically much different than what's on this channel, but conceptually similar. Instrumentally it was written to sound like the process of sinking from the very beautiful, life filled ocean surface to the crushing, pitch black depths of the ocean floor, but lyrically it mirrors this by delving down to the very depths of consciousness and innermost desire. Very cool album, does a great job of showing the versatility of metal, from extremely beautiful to oppressive and crushing
This will probably get buried but you have GOT to try Warlord by Yung Lean. I think it will be the perfect intro for you into his music, which has influenced a whole generation of hip hop.
i think you would love mac miller so much. starting at either faces or k.i.d.s. could work amazing to see his progression as an artist. in my opinion, no artist has had as many changes in sound, tone, and lyrical meaning (besides kanye, duh). knowing his name in the news, which you might, would give you such an appreciation for him as a person. he has to be a top 5 white person of all time.
I’d say it’d be better to start with an album like GOOD AM or Swimming, then Circles, then back to Faces and KIDS. I know I personally appreciated the KIDS mixtape so much more after hearing Mac’s later work
There's a song called Scatter Brain by Conway the Machine ft. J.I.D and Ludacris. Jid has a bar talking about suicide doors and chickens you have to listen now 😂 would love a reaction to J.I.Ds debut album The Never Story. He's on the come up and his new album is coming out soon!
Would love to see a clipping album reaction their last 2 albums, There Existed and Addiction to Blood and Visions of Bodies being Burned are horror themed and experimental I think you’d enjoy them.
Great mindset before going into My beautiful dark twisted fantasy! I know that a lot of people consider it his best album, and one of the best hip hop albums ever, but don't be discouraged if you don't like it. For some, including me, it just doesn't click; and in my opinion it has a few bad songs. I hope you like it though!
I like how somebody's always playing animal crossing in the background (I assume it's because around the time you're off work and are able to make a video is the same time your kid is off school and done with work and can play games)
Denzel has a REALLY dark and interesting past. I feel like I shouldn't spoil anything but being aware of the trauma he's been through makes the aggression and subject matter in his music hit a lot harder
Depends on who you ask, i personally prefer pablo much more but i appreciate mbdtf a lot more because its literally made to be have a grand and specific sound and it actually succeeds in doing so, wich is soooo rare, its literally one of the only albums where we were told "yeah its perfect" and it actually was. @@bobthepoppop Yeah, it's all about perspective in the end. Pablo resonates with me because it came out at a special time in my life, I was still 8th grade and I had the time of my life with that album, you could say it was the soundtrack to my life, haha. Dark Fantasy on the other hand is so appreciated because of Kanye going all out on it. Can't wait for the reaction, keep up the great work man!
