i'm just starting out and have found that the key chain type of "credit cards" works best so far. When you get a rewards card from Walgreen's or Staples there is a smaller part that you're supposed to attach to your key chain. I find they make good dulcimer picks for their size and flexibility.
@WayneRailman9 I am tuned DAD. This is special pick for dulcimers that I bought way back in the 1980s. It is longer than your regular guitar pick. I have never seen them since.
Hello John, as usual - fantastic - question are you in DAD or DAA tuning for this and what are you strumming with - looks very flexible. I am trying different styles of picks with mine and have not settled on one I totally like yet. Though I am partial to a Gibson pick. Hope all is well with you my friend. Wayne
I tried a peacock feather...that was fun, but it didn't hold up well. I'll have to ask grandsons if they have any extra feathers from those gobblers they shot.
It is a pick made for the mountain dulcimer. It is like a guitar pick but longer. I got this pick many years ago and I have not seen them since so I do not know if they are still available. Perhaps you might find one on eBay. As an alternative I take the plastic lids from hummus containers that you get at the grocery store and with a pair of scissors I cut myself a pick the size and shape I want.
Love this song!
I had it sung by a friend at my Mom's funeral. Not a dry eye in the parlor.
You've done the Carter-Cash Family proud !
sweet job
