Matt, A real simple thing that I do with both the Domino 500 & 700. One board I make all the mortises on the tightest width cut. Adjoining board, I move the width cut to the second selection on the Domino. Then when you are doing glue up, no stressing over alignment, top face will be flush no matter what. I only use pencil marks for my mortises...
Really turned out nice!! I really like how you used the wooden clamps to hold your pieces up on the table. Great tip - I have a set but seldom use those clamps. You just shared a way to put them back to use. Thanks for sharing!! Love your projects!!
Hey Matt great work . when I build a painted piece I have discovered foam rollers eliminate all brush strokes and roller marks from the paint results are amazing
Those cabinets look awesome Matt! And I've been there with the domino and reference surfaces before too. Great tool, however you need to stay on your toes when using it. Great work Matt!
Great project...wish I had some of those tools buddy, but nice to see the work done right! And hey, falling into the green wagon is also great! Good for you~! :)
Hi Matt , great video and project . Can I recommend cutlist optimiser software ( No affiliation)for maximising your sheet material usage. There is a mobile version also. It calculates the most efficient way of utilising your sheet material.I use it all the time to make the best use of my wood offcuts. Keep up the great work Glenn UK
I'm planning a builtin book shelf, 12" deep x 36" wide x by 70" tall. I was hoping to spray finish it with my HVLP. The shelves can be sprayed separately. Will this size opening be adequate enough to spray instead of rolling on the paint?
+Jeff Lundy Hi Jeff, yeah it should be great for that, I would have sprayed this cabinet if I had the room in my shop to do so. The one thing to be careful of is banging the gun into the shelves while spraying the insides.
Nice job Matt. I hope to have an MFT one day. I too have had the issue with cutting mortises in the wrong spot due to referencing from wrong end of the plywood (i.e. my toy storage project build). Turned out nice. Are you going to the woodworking show in Atlanta by chance?
Hiya Matt, I have just discovered your channel but I enjoyed your above project and will watch more of your videos. Just one question, I like the glue pot/jug you were using. I would like to get one do they have a specific name or trade name. I am from the UK and haven't seen a glue pot anything like that here. Cheers rob
The build itself looks really good. It just seems a shame that you painted it with a brush rather than a sprayer. I have never had a good result with a brush and water-based paint. A high density foam roller gives a much better finish than a brush.
Nice project, good work. I just watched the HVLP segment on Jay's channel. Any reason you chose not to spray this project? The roller and brush turned out great, just curious.
+Scott Cunningham Thanks man, yeah I wanted to but my shop is so small that I didn't really have room to do it without getting overs pray everywhere. It was too cold to do it outside at the time, i did consider taking it to work and spraying it though
+The 2 Car Garage Shop No, it was just regular compound that I either applied with my finger or by using a filler squeegee. I'm sorry if that was confusing.
Nicely done! I need to do more pre-planning to optimize my material use too. I end up with way too much scrap laying around and I hate to throw any of it away. I'm not able to get your Instagram link to work. Is it just me?
+Tammy Bartlett This was a budget built cabinet as per the customers request. They knew up front I'd be using scrap material. Just because they were a little misshapen doesn't mean the cabinet is crap. It was all built with 3/4" material and was a very nice cabinet in the end!
I like the trick of holding the plywood vertical in the two wooden screw clamps.
+Bruce A. Ulrich
It works great!!
nice build , I'm glad your back in the shop
+Glen Turner Thanks Glen, glad to be back!!
Great work Matt!!! Really nice tips, for a beginner like myself the small tricks are gold.
+Alex Rail

+Rock-n H Woodshop Thanks man, Yeah I seem to have fallen into the green trap!

+Carolina Hunting
Thanks, I'll have to try that out
Great video, Matt! Good tip on thinking about your cuts before you make they to conserve material.
+Braxton Wirthlin
Thanks Braxton!!
Nice job, Matt. I like the sheet rock mud tip!
+Stone and Sons Workshop Thanks Shawn, works like a charm!
you're just using the mud on the screw holes? and end grain? not on the entire thing correct?
+David Dear
Yes!
Those cabinets look awesome Matt! And I've been there with the domino and reference surfaces before too. Great tool, however you need to stay on your toes when using it. Great work Matt!

Nice build. I use small pieces of builders tape to remind me what side I am referencing off. I use biscuits. Never trust ply thickness.
+joe obrien
Thanks Joe!
Recientemente me he suscrito a tu canal y he de decir que son muy buenos todos tus trabajos, Sigue asi
muchas gracias
Matt, can you give some detail on your respirator and filters please? Great build. I've been wrestling with misshapen ply in recent days too.
+InMused
It's just a 3m particulate mask, must better than the disposables

Matt Lane awesome! I look forward to meeting you Matt!

+Robert Sandey Hey Rob, it's called a glue bot and it's made by a company called fastcap!
Thank you mate. I will see what I can find on ebay and amazon.
Very nice Matt. Al though, I thought you would have sprayed on the finish.
+jimgam730 Trust me, I wanted to, but it was too cold and rainy outside!!

Drywall compound, I've never seen it go on like paint before. Do you thin it first or is that a special type?
Looks great, Scott
+The 2 Car Garage Shop
No, it was just regular compound that I either applied with my finger or by using a filler squeegee. I'm sorry if that was confusing.
Ok - looked like you were applying it with a roller - guess that was the paint. Ok, I got I
now
Jay sent me =) Really like your channel - new sub =)
+Veronica Thanks :)
Nice build! Never trust free plywood :(
+Andrew Latham Thanks Andrew, couldn't have said it better myself!!!
Nicely done!
I need to do more pre-planning to optimize my material use too. I end up with way too much scrap laying around and I hate to throw any of it away.
I'm not able to get your Instagram link to work. Is it just me?
+Whatever It Takes Thank you, sorry I just changed the instagram name so the link may be messed up. It's mattlanewoodshop on instagram.
me gusta como trabajas muy bien suigue hacia delante
that's good to know, then, Matt. so sorry.
+Tammy Bartlett
No worries, thanks for watching!!
I Dont think your clients would appreciate you telling us you're using crappy old scraps to build their items. I darn sure wouldn't.
+Tammy Bartlett
