      I totally agree with you! I feel like it's mostly because people piss me off by making stupid/rude statements and I have to research things to prove them wrong and I learn so much in the meantime. The most dangerous side effect of veganism: learning more about nutrition.

      Cecilia Garcia Yes! Another thing that's important is boiling for a while. 30 mins or more in some cases to destroy the phytohaemagglutinin (spelled wrong?) lower heats can increase the toxin apparently :O

      Thanks for the info. We do cook them a lot here. My grandma would let them cook for hours in the time where gas stoves were used. Plus, they taste better, even the day after lentils for instance are always tastier.

    • @ceciliagarcia4097

      It depends. What happens is that my mother do not find the same lentils for instance. When I was younger they needed to be all night in water and then cook for at least one hour. Kitchens now are faster, the heat more and we find only legumes from California etc. Spanish legumes are very rare to find and expensive. Foid globalization is making us all eat the same crops and legumes. Bad for our microbiome.

    I can tell you for a fact that foods that are very high in oxalates (spinach, beet greens, swiss chard, etc..) REALLY bother me and gives me sooooo much digestive issues!! Traditionally prepared legumes, grains and nuts (soak, sprout, ferment) are way easier to digest and the nutrients become more bio available.

    • @Magnulus76
      @Magnulus76 2 года назад +2

      Oxalates can irritate the gut lining. The vegetables you mention are pretty much the only ones besides almonds and quinoa that are high in oxalates, however.

    • @panes840
      @panes840 2 года назад +2

      Yes this can happen but that's because there is something going on with your gut microbiome. I would read the book Fibre Fuelled by Dr B (hes on YT too) as it has a wealth of information explaining what might be going on there. Stuff I have never even heard of. Plus, if you look up the Dr named Dr Brooke Goldner she is healing autoimmune disease all the time by dark leafy greens and people are having their gut microbiomes restored. She helped me kick hypothyroidism out the window. So check here out. Shes on YT too and on Facebook. Lots of testimonials on FB for autoimmune disease. She healed her own Lupus, renal failure and she had mini strokes. Totally healed.

      I just bought a dehydrator. Soak and dehydrate my nuts now. Also beans. Makes them easier to grind and digest. Already use milled flax seed and milled chia seeds because if you see seeds in your poop, you're not getting the full nutritional benefits. As for beans, I toss in Kombu. I'm not gassy at all even though I eat beans at least 7-10 meals a week.

    Love your channel, your knowledge and debunking. BUT - as we are all subjective, I would really like to see you do a video of all the NEGATIVE sides of being a vegan (with potential remedies/alternatives). As a vegan, this would help us prepare for scrutiny from all the haters. I like to get all my facts straight, even the negative ones.

    • @rachelgoodkind6545
      @rachelgoodkind6545 2 года назад +3

      Negative sides for me are the critics who really know little about (organic) soy and assume it is feminizing (yet totally
      ignore the ANIMAL estrogens they scarf down), those who are critical and/or intimidated by veganism and hesitant to even'
      try it, those who use the excuse that vegans are weak, not fit, wanting more humans around me who are
      vegan, not wanting to eat in any restaurant that serves dead animals, and being sensitive to others who so casually
      scarf down animals without much care. I love what I do after over 20 years of being an ethical whole food vegan, but it takes courage and conviction to swim upstream in this world. cheers.

    • @minifix
      @minifix Год назад +1

      I've looked into this a lot, and there are some negatives albeit very few. If you're a woman with heavy menstruation you can get anemic, and need more iron than even iron-rich plants can provide (or eat massive amounts of those plants). After the age of around 65 it requires more effort to get adequate protein. It is possible on a vegan diet, but harder (before 65 a low-to-moderate protein diet is of course beneficial). And most importantly, b12. My idea of a perfect diet is one where should be able to eat whole foods only and never need to supplement. And no, you absolutely can't - and shouldn't - get sufficient b12 from bacteria rich water.
      If we were living 150 years ago when the ocean was still clean, I'd probably conclude that a mainly WFPB diet, with fish once or twice a month, is ideal. But since they're so polluted now we'll just have to settle for the b12 supplements.

    @Mic the Vegan: could you do a video on ways to reduce oxalates through more thorough cooking and presoaking?
    Lentils, beans, and quinoa are high in oxalates and phytates I think. I soak them overnight with applcider vinegar before cooking. If I don’t I get sick when I eat them. Not sure exactly why. I’m curious about sprouting beans too. Any videos on making proteins and their nutrients more digestible are much appreciated.
    Thank you. 💚

    I ate 3-4 cans per day of organic beans for a month, along with sweet potatoes & cauliflower. I ended up breaking out in hives and now I’m waster fasting to try to heal chronic hives that can’t be controlled with medication. 😂 Vegan diet is best, that said, transition slowly and focus on potatoes & rice. Integrate beans and other mast-cell activating foods slowly. We just don’t eat enough beans in the Western world, they are delicious and so good for us too! Also avoid canned foods unless it’s a must!

    Last night I made quinoa with lentils, black beans, celery, yellow pepper and spinach. I cooked 1 cup of quinoa with 1 cup water, 1 cup vegetable broth. I try to find low sodium veg broth. I also rinse and soak canned beans and lentils for at least an hour to lower the sodium content. I use canned beans because I'm really bad at cooking them from their dried state. They never seem to fully cook for me.

    • @drunkvegangal8089

      As vegans, it's really easy to make your own veggie broth. The trick is having a big container or plastic zip bag in the freezer. When you prepare veggies - put the carrot peels, green onion root balls, celery ends/leaves, etc. in the bag and return to the freezer.
      When you've got 5 to 8 cups of trimmings, throw in a big pot and add black pepper, 2-3 bay leaves and 2-3 cloves crushed garlic

      It's tedious, but if you're doing batch cooking, it's worth the trouble: After soaking beans overnight, drain, and top with fresh water. Bring to a hard simmer over med heat; cook for 2 minutes at a simmer. Remove from heat and let stand one hour. Drain, and top with fresh water. Bring to a hard simmer over med heat; cook for 2 minutes at a simmer. Remove from heat and let stand one hour. Drain, and repeat this process one more time. After final standing, top with fresh water, and cook to doneness, 1/2 hour to one hour, depending on the type of bean. Do not add salt until the last ten minutes, as salt retards cooking.

Being a chef surrounded by delicious meat products coupled with my ability to create amazing dishes containing said meat make it incredibly difficult. Not that its a good excuse. On a vegan diet, with a solid fitness regimen, I went from 310 lbs, weak and covered in acne to 225 muscular and clear skinned! I fell off about a year ago and couldnt be happier! im now 280, depressed and have achy joints.... hooray! Time to reclaim my health I suppose (not eating living beings is also a plus) its like i become acutely aware that im sinking my teeth into the flesh of another being from time to time, yet i somehow justify it... societal conditioning is a strong force.

      Admnightmare they are not good to eat unless you know how to prepare them, and you want to take the time to do it. Legumes are supposed to soak in water for 24 hour prior to cooking, so the antinutrient content is minimize. Also, he said they are some of the most nutritious foods a person can eat. This statement is completely false. Some of the more nutritious foods we can eat are: raw grassfed butter, wild caviar ( fish roe) shellfish (oysters) organ meats ( liver) grassfed bone marrow, kefir and many other high quality animal foods. Beans are also hard to digest that is why people fart when they eat them.

      "Multiple regression analysis showed that phosphorus had a significant inhibitory influence, an effect that was stronger than the enhancing effect of either ascorbic acid or animal tissue. The nature of the inhibitory effect of dietary phosphorus on iron absorption is unclear. One possibility is that this inhibitory effect reflects the content of dietary phytate, which accounts for the potent inhibitory effect of wheat bran (27, 28) and soy protein (29-32) on iron absorption. "

      Oops
      And yes; meat has similar anti-inhibitor factors like ascorbic acid.
