In the Philippines, speaking entirely in English is too “academic” and formal. Speaking entirely in Filipino (or whatever local dialect) is either too “academic”, archaic, or sounds like a political speech... A mix of a local dialect and english makes a conversation more informal...
You do realize na mga foreign yung nagcocomment. They can understand English but mix of tagalog they can't, plus yung mga borrowed words natin from Spanish..
I love the fact the Filipino woman at 7:36 already has a slogan for the situation: 'Not to make use and abuse, but to serve and preserve'. The excellent thing was how genuinely it was said.
@@batataebom5077 marijuana is illegal in the Philippines for both recreational and medicinal use. Marijuana here is mainly used by well off college students since it's an expensive habit and is secondary to meth. Street children and out of school youth in the Philippines sniff rugby instead because it alleviates hunger.
Only in the bisaya speaking regions in the Philippines you'll hear people having a conversation using English, Tagalog, Bisaya, and Spanish in one sentence.
yes, true.. in Mindanao you can hear 4-5 dialect and languages in a one sentence cuz Im doing that and I really speak like that 😂... I am speaking bisaya, ilonggo, tagalog, english and a little bit of spanish (cuz some of Filipino words are spanish with the same meaning)... and most people here speaks like that...
@UwU UwU huh? Im still a Filipino.. and I see nothing wrong with speaking 4-5 dialects and languages in one sentence.. that's what I used to speak since I was a child..
As a Filipino, I’m ok with tourists here in the Philippines. But I really hate it when they intentionally disrespect or mock our culture. Respect, that just it.
Both Spanish and English are in the language because new words for many things simply didn't exist in the language. For 300+ years many Spanish words were adopted to fill those voids. Needed words after the Spaniards were gone, the American (English) word was used. Pretty much anything that's been invented outside of the country in the past century, the computer for example, the English word was likely adopted into the language.
I speak Spanish and the Filipino language is so crazy, many words in Spanish and then they include English sentences with Tagalog, it's really something else, is like whatever word they lack in Tagalog they have it in Spanish and then finish it with English.... Talk about a cultural revolution LOL
Actually not necessarily i speak tagalog and i study spanish, so actually for some words, he have a spanish version and an alternate word for tagalog street: spanish borrowed word is kalye/kalsada, and tagalog would be daan (kalye-calle isn't used, but kalsada-calsada is) Chair: spanish- silya, tagalog-upuan/bangko (silya-silla this word isn't really used) And also numbers, numbers are interchangable, we use both tagalog numbers and spanish numbers but theyre used in different ways, u can use spanish numbers 1-10 when u play cards, but u dont use tagalog numbers for that, u can use tagalog numbers when referring to something in a general way, but for me when dealing with money, I use spanish numbers like bente-veinte...por ejemplo pregunto a vendedor, cuanto cuesta, y después puede decir "bente" pesos
I'm now interested how they keep mixing English words in their sentences. Fascinating. And then I would imagine how their ancestors would say the same sentences but with a full Filipino language.
Sinister Strawberry There is no full Filipino language. You can't recognize it because of the Malay pronunciation, but they are using a lot of bastardized Spanish words like kamusta ka instead of commo est ta
Actually, our language, Filipino is mixed of Malay and Spanish language...and English came later bc Americans came in early 1900s and English is also taught in school and textbooks in Science and Math today. But, most of the mix speakers (of Taglish Tagalog+English) were mostly found in Metro Manila but if you go to the southern part of the country in Visayas and Mindanao people speak there purely in their dialects which is mostly Bisaya/Cebuano!
These are bright young Filipinos. I was expecting biased answers, because these days not many people are willing to look at the view from all sides if some of the blame could be their own. They seemed very open minded and logical.
Yes because we are exposed to literally everything happening around the world because we understand english. We are just not so elaborate when we convey our opinion in english but when we use our native tongue you will hear a balanced and well informed opinion. Our english is american style. I wish we learned it from the brits.
OMG i am sorry to point the language, and not the topic. But I am trying to know more how is the culture in PH. And as a Brazilian, i am so in LOVE 😢😍😍❤ I love Asia and i was trying to know more about PH and when i saw their names looks like ours, and even the language looks like ours, i got curious as hell. Hope visit you guys. 😍❤ Greeting from Brazil.
Mariah Oliveira come over and you will be be very surprised! Alot of Spanish/south American influence. Parts of the south of the Philippines even speak chavacano.
Mariah Oliveira no Ferdinand Magellan did not teach us haha. He's Portuguese and invaded Philippines so our country was named after king Philip of Spain. You will feel comfortable in Philippines. You will enjoy the beautiful beaches too. Check them out!
Cyril Garcia have you ever been in boracay? It's really clean compare to cities in the philippines. And sewerage system is the main problem which is also a problem in the whole country. The gov't is the main reponsible why sewerage is the problem. But it's really good that the president took fast action (but the action was too fast, they forgot to plan everything well)
Duterte preaches hate against foreigners look in a mirror philippinos and you will see who is trashing this country . only a child blames others for their own failings!
Hello Asian Boss. I like your videos regarding Philippines excluding this one. The title is Do Filipinos hate tourists so I expect it is the first question you will ask but when I watch the video, the first question is about shutting down the Boracay. Let me answer your question. Do Filipinos hate tourists? No. They are welcome to visit our country and we appreciate it. Regarding Boracay, it is right to close it because after so many years, we have a president who got balls to preserve it. Boracay is now a garbage because of 2 reasons: poor law enforcement and oligarchs who only cares about profit.
Im with you on this. I was also confused. Asian Boss should change the title. Cause it's given that majority of the Filipino's were glad and fine with the tourists because they bring business and they help in promoting the Philippines 😊👏👊👍
true... coz we are use to it... and they can't take our toggle language... I dunno why it's a big deal for them... when they don't even understand pure tagalog even if we speak it...
I've been to the Philippines several times, it's a beautiful country. Filipinos are generally very friendly and pleasant, and I always enjoy my visit. However, in my experience it's the natives who litter and pollute their environment. I've been on several ferries and I always see locals throwing their trash into the ocean without a thought, like it's their personal trash bin, it was infuriating to watch.
In many places, it is true. But in some cities and urban areas of the country, Govt regulations are very strict and people would obey or follow. I feel u when u stated that it's very frustrating. I feel the same way.
It's now less than a month ago since I came home from visiting the Philippines for the 4th time (I'm Swedish and I'm married to a Filipina) and I really like the culture there and the people are incredibly friendly there. I always respect everyone when I go there, when I enter the mall I always say Hello sir or Hello mam to the security guards and you can see they light up from the respect they get. Humor goes a long way anywhere including the Philippines. No one ever treated me poorly there. Tagalog sounds rather funny to me, it's the repeat language, every once in a while they say the same words close to each other such as krung krung (crazy), mahal na mahal kita (love you a lot), miss na miss kita (miss you a lot), so I started to make my own such as busy na busy or eat na eat, it was appreciated there :)
They treated me as an equal who is slightly taller. We had lots of fun together there. If there was any ass-kissing I didn't notice. The skin tone thing doesn't matter to me at all, here in Sweden after all people go to tanning salons to get tanned and they pay a lot to do so. People tend to want what they don't have themselves.
i will have to disagree with one of the comments... they don't kiss ass, it's just their nature. we were there last year, service was excellent everywhere, we are not white but treated with respect. you could say it's part of their job, ok, but that's how waiters and waitresses here in the US normally treat customers too and they do it to everyone regardless of skin tone.
I'm always fascinated by the mix of languages...even if it sometimes takes my mind off of the subtitles and then I kind of get lost when they switch back. :)
LagiNaLangAko23 i know.. i remember during my 20s looking for work in Manila competing with people from UST, La Salle and other Elite Universities..that was fun.
I'm surprised as well on how they used they're language. In japan, everyone speaks nihongo and write katakana and hiragana in modern way... This language is mixed with multiple different languages, theres spanish-english-and their language tagalog.
For my fellow filipinos: Like the saying ''When in rome?'' How can you expect tourists to behave and be clean if the locals themselves don't? For comparison, like in Singapore and Japan, you don't see a lot of trash cans/bins there but the streets are way cleaner than in the Phils. "If you want to change the world or anyone in general, start with yourself'' -Jordan Peterson
Bonita• •Bloom Good for you guys! for keeping our community clean. It's just that our other fellow countrymen think so highly of themselves when they themselves don't even follow, more so, break the rules of our nation.
Why blame the government if the people can't simply follow a certain law and then blame the government what a typical Filipino mindset lakas makablame sa government
I think it's not the government, that's people basic common sense to clean their own trash. Because they feel that the government is too lenient, so they abuse it.
True and he has the nerve to say that the government is stupid? If he is talking about the previous administration then it is fit to be called stupid for turning a blind eye to this situation but not this administration wherein the issue was addressed and made some policies that we knew are quite harsh but it bores a good result.
I agree that the government doesn't deserve that blame regarding with the trashes. However, generally speaking, that's the reason why they are "government". that's the point. They are responsible because they are the "government" hence, they need to be blamed. A lack of proper governance leads to citizens not being able to abide strictly to laws. Just look at some government from other countries who are in full control, nakakapalag ba ang mga citizens sa katigasan ng ulo nila? Hindi! Because the government is responsible.
My Grandmother is Filipina, and I have visited my family in the Philippines (I’m American). Everyone there was sooooo nice, whether they were family or not! But I understand if the Filipino population began resenting tourists based on the behavior mentioned at the start of the video. It’s disgusting to pollute a beach, and even more disgusting to violate seven year olds like that man did. I hope all tourists see the Philippines for what it really is: a beautiful country filled with wonderful people who should be respected. 🇵🇭🇺🇸
bltvd Haha, my cousin Owen was the celebrity. He was 5 at the time. The waitresses at the restaurant fawned over him, “Oh how bright you are!” When we got into the elevator with a bellhop, and Owen and his Dad were not with us, this RANDOM bellhop asked “where’s Owen?” Everybody else was so nice. I don’t think we were treated like royalty (like, they didn’t treat us as superior), but there is just a wonderful, selflessness to everyone we met. When we were climbing Tagaytay (an extinct volcano), my sister fainted. This lady at the top immediately laid her down gently and started crushing leaves under her nose to help her wake up. God bless the Philippines :) 🇵🇭
Sam M not really, it's just that filipinos are very hospitable people. They love all tourists from any countries, except for rude tourists from mainland china.
The Philippines is a wonderful country, my favorite out of every country I've visited. It's such an easygoing place. We made sure to follow local customs and were grateful for peoples hospitality
I don't think some of the people interviewed know the facts. One of the TV stations there interviewed the tourism minister who said that the government in Boracay collected several billions pesos from tourists for environmental taxes. But the money is unaccounted for. It's not just garbage. It's also the sewer system that has been neglected and raw sewage is backing up into the sea. As for tourists throwing garbage well pot meet kettle. Look at Manila with all the garbage the locals throw. Maybe they need to hire local people to clean up the garbage and put more receptacles so tourists can place garbage.
justin g what does locals throwing garbage have to do with the government? I can see the lack of infastructure development in boracay as their fault but the environmental awareness of people is not their fault at all.
Weeaboofuck I'm not saying that the garbage problem is solely because of the government, I'm saying that the reason why tons of money has gone towards clean up, but no clean up has actually happened, is because of corruption. Nothing like no bid contracts.
Weeaboofuck Discpline is needed, is what they meant. Corruption played a part, yes but that could have been avoided if people are encouraged to clean after their environment. Look at the poor in some countries, some are considerably more clean in habit compared to our poor. What's worse even most rich and laymen in the Philippines display poor cleaning habits and then they always blame the government completely for corruption or not providing public trash cans when change should start first within ourselves.
The Filipinos are some of the nicest people on the planet. Most of them speak English very well, but they have too many Korean and other foreign investors take advantage of this without giving back to the country. Hopefully in the future we can see them help with the infrastructure of the country. Instead of exploiting the people there, maybe someday we can work together in building a great middle class society. They need to implement higher wages or better benefits for companies that setup shop there and that’s been successful for a few years.
I'm crying (figuratively) while reading this comment lol. Yes I hope one day that will be the case. For now I doubt that we will see a huge advancements in this century.
Pfft if you just knew a lil bit about Philippine history with all the countless wars fought against the foreign invaders then you wouldn't be so ignorant. Only reason that it got colonized was through religion enticed with the promise of eternal salvation. Of course the foreign priests residing at that time had political power were also corrupt and exploitative themselves..they were no better.
The Bible was brought to this earth to save the people, while it has for few...many has perverse the words, having focused on tithing, being submissive. When JESUS CHRIST wanted everyone to have open relationship with yourself and be a STRONG disciple of God. Too much Catholicism forced their way in with GUILT words instead of words of WISDOM and STRENGTH. At least you still have family, most white Americans have broken up families, lost connection to God altogether, fearing each neighbors because of the LOVE of MONEY and expensive FOOD. Find your purpose by journaling and reading your own Bible periodically. God created everyone unique and special for reason, not to be enslaved but ENPOWERED. Like Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr...he can lead anyone to be a great paver of righteousness! Never forget the name Jesus Christ, he has 11 letters in his name, so does everlasting, eternal life, living water, and crucifixion. 9/11 was a warning for us ALL, but some of us failed to missed it. Know your purpose and you will see True Happiness. Psalms 8:5-6.
Your first statement isn’t accurate. Gossiping, backstabbing, and being manipulative is more accurate than what you said. Now I’m not saying all Filipinos are like that but a lot are.
As a Singaporean-Filipino, I really love how they mixed ng mga iba't ibang language like English, Spanish, at Tagalog. I really love their knowledge pagdating sa pag-sagot ng mga questions. I'm practicing mixing words cuz I really love the 🇵🇭
I've visited the Philippines many times in the past and the people there are the kindest, warmest and most generous people I've met. I gained like 10 pounds though haha, all of the lolas and titas were always trying to feed me, lovely country and lovely people
The title says “Do Filipinos Hate Tourists?” And the woman in the intro talked about the Filipinos impressions about tourists. Then the guy doing the interview talked 95% about something else.
yes I think so, and in general the plan is not bad. they dont get as much as when the tourists are there, but they arent without money.. but they were a part of how the whole situation ended. So, after this cleaning and renovation campaign, you can be sure that all of the locals there are now super attentive and conscious about the situation, no matter if they are interested in have a nice enviroment or not. Because after this event they know, if they dont do care and dont tell tourists to care, they will have a bad income year again ;) That is once again, one of Dutertes very harsh, but effective decisions.. And they work.
went there in 07 and it was nice, went back in 2012 and it was nasty, overdeveloped and crowded. Most of the tourists i observed there were filipinos. and ill say for sure it wasent me throwing cigarette butts all over the beach.
its like that here in the Philippines, people tend to code-switch between languages because sometimes its kinda hard to just speak tagalog purely so they just mix it with english to make things easier.
yeah go watch the previous asian boss video where they try to speak without using spanish or english loan words! its very interesting cause people were struggling
I visited the Philippines in 1993 just for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed seeing the young people having some fun together and a lot of laughter. I was 20 at the time and it was my first time traveling overseas alone. My favorite place was Tacloban.
@Benja Freeman i dont want to defend sexpats or the girls.. but even with a bachelors degree you make less then 300 usd and that only in manila where the rent and everything else is higher then in the country side.. you can barely survive with that money... life is really hard in ph, for you its easy to jugde those girls because you were never piss poor
I have been to the Philippines on several occasions, and in my experience, they are some of the friendliest, most helpful people I have ever met. I would hate to think that an American would go there and disrespect their beautiful beaches or their laws. As an American, if I saw this happening, I would give that person Hell.
I don't hate tourists, it's actually flattering that they chose to spend their precious time here (and it's good for business). But what I hate the most are rude people. There are people/tourists who wanders around and generalize us. Let's say for example: they would think that everyone are after their money.... Not everyone are poor and not every poor person are going to sell you their soul or whatever you call it. -Born and raised in the Philippines
Sam M I'm not married so I have no idea. Why don't you ask those who got married to a foreigner. Everyone has their own reason. I can't speak for them. 🙄
I'm going to the Philippines for the first time here in less than a month. I really look forward to it. I love the Filipinos I have encountered so far.
Kinocomment nila yung gusto nilang marinig sa foreigners! Why wait for others' compliment when you can create another youtube account in matter of a minute? 😂😂😂
Lol they always blame the government. Sometimes the change can start within us. If we want change then start discipline ourselves by following simple rules.
If you come to think of it, the government still plays a huge role in this. The purpose of the government is to maintain order in society. People have no discipline because the government fails to INSTILL that discipline. May it be large business corps or poor families residing near Manila Bay, they all dump their trash in there because the place is unregulated. No matter how many clean up drives we do, if we do not completely restrict any form of dumping there, nothing would change. Self-discipline is important, but the reason we need a government is because it's not at all times that people are able to discipline themselves on their own. The government's duty is to MAINTAIN ORDER. If there are no laws for its stakeholders to abide by, nothing will happen. Apart from creating rules, we also have to implement them properly. It's not enough that there are policies. Creating AND implementing have to go hand in hand. No one else can do this most efficiently but the government. Yes, it would be nice if people learn how to discipline themselves, but it's the government's duty to constantly remind and SHOW its people that self-discipline is possible. They are called "leaders" for a reason. They lead and we follow. Both leaders and followers have their duties. But what's disheartening is that these leaders can't even be good examples to their followers. They have the platform that ordinary people don't have, why not use it efficiently?
Filipinos don't hate tourists, although some tourists litter in boracay, they just do what they see most filipinos do, aka "when in rome, do what the romans do" thing. The main problem on why boracay became what it is is poor waste management. And that is all the reason why boracay was closed. poor waste management that is affecting the water around it with algae, not because of hatred of tourist, something has to be done before the damage is irreparable.
You shouldn't "worship" white people. Many of those who come to poor country and make benefits of the change rate are the poor in our countries. They are not educated and give a bad image of us. There is nothing to worship. And btw I do not understand this trend to worship the strangers. There is the same thing in Europe. We always say "It is better in Germany, China, Japan, USA, UK, Australia, *insert country name here*".
Filipino people are so nice 👍 I just love them! I have Filipino friends in the US and they are all super nice, they love to feed you and are very kind!
HINDI LAHAT NG PILIPINO ANO. DAPAT NAG DAGDAG KA NG SOME SA SENTENCE MO. Not at all. don't stereotype because different people have different perspective about life.
RUN AWAY FROM THEM! they will make u FAT! (kidding, thyre good company on drinking sessions, there is always food and it is about friendship not fcked up home wrecking stuff )
Filipino's are awesome in their own right! I don't think they should worry about what Caucasian people are doing. Everyone should be treated equal as part of a big human family! With dignity, respect and kindness. If only it was that way in real life! Well anyway I just love all the Filipino people I have met!
"It's mostly the government's fault. They don't enforce the law" But when the government do implement and enforce the laws, snowflakes would rally and scream "dictatorship" or "democracy is dead". And I am certain that a few of those interviewed here would be present with placards on their left hand, and a cup of freshly made Starbucks Frapuccino in their right.
"And I am certain that a few of those interviewed here would be present with placards on their left hand, and a cup of freshly made Starbucks Frapuccino in their right." You'll be dead wrong. Who hurt you?
Am I the only one who gets annoyed at people who blames the government for almost everything? It's like listening to a spoiled brat blaming their parents for raising them like brats. Pati ba pagpulot at tamang pagtapon ng basura gawain ng gobyerno?
It is the government's fault. But not the government that's implied in the video. It's the local government's fault. When the leader of the country has to step in and do their job, the ball has been irresponsibly dropped.
for almost any other circumstances I would agree with you... but this is the Philippines government. Literally everyone knows it exists but no one does anything about it
Hate is a word too strong. As a Filipino I love tourists and I see a lot of tourists being welcomed and accomodated very well. Hospitality is Filipino's specialty and is one thing we are globally known for.
There’s more to the Filipinos than meets the eye. So many are highly educated, have college degrees but due to lack of job opportunities people tend to settle for much less. People travel abroad and work as domestic helpers & what not. The truth is, the Filipinos are much smarter than their American counterparts. We have an offshore team in Manila and whenever we meet & have them present their reports, they are extremely talented in how they create & present their decks. What’s funny is that their diction is even better than the Americans. They use a lot of big words that a normal American would not use. They are very efficient, organized, the quality of work they produce is superb, all around talented. Those foreigners abusing the young should all be deported and blacklisted and never again be allowed back to enter the country. As far as Boracay’s closure, yes many have lost their jobs but the government have employed a pool of those people for the clean up effort, they are given money as part of their lost income for the time being, & some the government helped to find work elsewhere while the island is closed. Truly Boracay was neglected by the past administrations and if they had done their jobs then this would not happen to begin with. The current President is now left to clean up all of this mess.
My mum has 2 degrees and has a job in dubai that pays just a little above average of a nurse here. My dad has 4 or 5 degrees and has no job. My family is also seperated so i had to watch them both struggle as i went from dads house to mums house...so i think i can relate with your post
I promise as a foreigner I have never thrown my rubbish on the ground. I never will. As it is said ditto sa Hawaii, Malama ka Aina, care for the land. Looking forward to returning this year to continue volunteering.
Every problem in PH could be solved if the government got out of the way and stopped wasting everyones time amd money. The bureaucracy in this country is a joke.
Yeah the governments crap here but the people who keep preaching about how the government should act should also act the same way throwing garbage around is pretty common here
Me - studies everyday for decades failing to learn a single foreign language. Them - grows up speaking 5 naturally mixing and matching as they so choose. Please kill me.
I only have few friends, but 3 of my friends learned Japanese through Manga and Anime. And the other one learned Korean through K Drama. I got envious so now I'm trying to learn Portuguese through a mobile app (Duolingo). I don't know why but perhaps Filipinos have that special gene to easily learn languages. In the Philippines we even invented 2 languages: gay lingo for the gays and jejomon for the hypebeast.
well, our primary language is filipino and secondary language is english so mixing them together isnt that strange, and plus tagalog is a mixture of malay+spanish+some local words and sometimes you can trace some japanesse words, which makes sense cuz ancient filipinos were descendants of malay and people from china/taiwan then filipinos were colonized by spanish in 300 yrs then america stepped in conquered us for 50 years then the japanesse for a really short while... so that why or language is so confusing
I really want to go to the philippines. Their language is *AWESOME* So, how many languages do filipinos have? I honestly heard three languages. Spanish, English, and Filipino mixed in one conversation. I don't even know if the subtitle is correct or not! That's totally dope!!! You know what am I sayin?
Very interesting to hear feedback from locals. I'm happy they did these interviews. This girl who mentioned Singapore, there is no spitting or littering because there is discipline. They take this responsibility seriously. Maybe Filipinos can also take responsibility. If foreigners see this good example they will also follow it. Love to Philippines 😘
My family and I already partner with a local pastor in the Philippines. We live in America but provide support for ministry outreach. We are very blessed to help in this small way. We look forward to visiting the Philippines next year.
flying goat child of Clorox bleach lol i was just clearly suggesting and not demanding bcs it wont be really Filipinos' opinion if theyre were just from Luzon area. Just saying it would be better if there will be people from other regions.
Aint nobody got time to ask other Filipinos from every other region, and they will most likely say the same thing like most of these peeps in a different dialect. It's unnecessary.
The beaches and the scenery in the Philippines are the best in the world...however none of that matters at all to me. It's the people that make me fall in love with the Philippines. I will appreciate their love and kindness till the day I die
I didn’t know people would find our way of communicating fascinating, anyway, we use both Tagalog and English at the same time, it just comes out of our mouth naturally. That’s what happens when your country’s been colonized by the west.
BTS _Jiminchii a lot of countries colonized by Americans or the brits, have their own form of language mixed up with english so it’s pretty normal for the Phil. to have TagLish
I'm a retired American married to a retired Filipina for over 23 years. I also lived in Bauang for two years after I retired. I know the culture and the people very well. They are such a wonderful people, But, hampered with extreme poverty. Most westerners are unaware of the country, culture and do take advantage of the locals. On the other hand, some locals take advantage of tourists as well. I do recommend coming to the Philippines and spending time and money here. Honestly speaking. Most of you will have a great experience. But, some will not. So don't be afraid to take a chance. You can't believe just how warm and accommodating the people of the Philippines can be. Just be aware that just like anywhere in the world. You can be scammed. Enjoy.
You cant blame us lol. In school, we are required to speak in english except for lunch time. In house, parents will talk to us im Filipino/local language with a overwhelming loanwords from Spanish. Haha
This American really loves the Philippines and I wouldn't ever try to take advantage of anyone for money or anything else. We foreigners are guests of the Philippines and we need to be respectful as their guests. The Philippine people are very kind, respectful and welcoming so they deserve to be treated just the same as they treat us. I enjoy helping others and I never ask or expect to get anything in return. I also don't throw my trash any other place than where it belongs which isn't on the ground. The Philippines is a very beautiful country and I want it to stay that way.
Everybody is so confused because they use english words in there language but young people in Germany, Austria and Switzerland do the same thing with the german language. Its like we created a new German language with putting english words into it. Lmao
Most Filipinos are very welcoming to foreigners visiting their country. From my own observations, the majority probably don't mind tourists that much unless they start being disrespectful. Most of the tourists I've seen before are terrible; they act like they're above everyone else and do whatever they want, they cuss at locals for getting in their way and they mock and push homeless people around, then they complain about the heat, and once, I was asked if everyone here were rapists and drug dealers. I used to hate tourists, especially when they take advantage of people's kindness towards them. I still have a bad image of them, but I try to be friendly whenever I meet one. I don't hate them as much, I just hope that they would stop thinking like royalties just because they're in a "third world country". This country has many flaws like the rest of the world, so if you choose to visit here then at least be understanding and respectful. I think it's common sense to travel with a friend since it's safer, to be home early, to protect your items and to bring pepper sprays if you're visiting a country you have no knowledge of. Be kind, be respectful and everyone will welcome you.
This is very true. Some would speak ill about Catholicism and how people are misguided because they are going to a so called church for nothing. I am not very religious myself for a Filipino but duh respect the culture. You came here in the Philippines as a tourist not as the owner of the Pearl of the Orient Seas.
Jonard Nabartey I think Catholicism is the best thing we could have. Better than Islam and we're free. We also remember that our Revolution was also started by the martyrdom of Gomburza
I think you couldn't compare one religion to another. There is no better religion than the other one. We should just respect each other religion, that is the how things work.
A Public Service Announcement: Filipino is NOT Tagalog. Filipino is based on Tagalog with several loanwords from Spanish. A lot of the people I've encountered like to interchange these two terms. Here's a very good example: English: Alphabetical Catalogue of Surnames Spanish: Catálogo alfabético de apellidos Filipino: Alpabetikong Katalogo ng mga Apelyido Tagalog: Katitikang Talaan ng mga Ngalang-angkan You'll notice that the Filipino and Spanish ones are pretty much the same, while the Tagalog one is way off. But it's good to note that any native Filipino speaker will easily understand both the Filipino and Tagalog ones and Tagalog are used in "Balagtasan" (Poetic Competition). If a Filipino speak pure Tagalog he might get teased by other Pinoys by saying "what era did you came from?"
@@astraeusgodofthestars676 Good luck then, Philippines will never become as good as Japan or Korea. Indonesia managed to united despite having more than 700 languages, you stupid regionalists are the downfall of this country.
@@voldemortthenoselessfreak2126 Ang punta dito is a sense of national language. Ano sa tingin mo nangyayari sa Pilipinas? Regionalism. Cebuanos hate Tagalogs, Tagalogs hate Bisayas. I’ve always thought Filipinos females are beautiful because of their mixture European features with their Asian features. I have a quite positive view on the Filipinos.
Pablo Here What an idiot. European mixture doesn’t make them more or less attractive and barely Filipinos have european DNA and when they do it’s usually less than 1-3%.
To those who are quite confused with Filipino language. It's a cocktail of Tagalog, Malay, Spanish, and English. It's a new form of communication among younger generation. Not to mention the slang words that are now widely accepted in regular conversations among peers.
We hate tourists who look down on Filipinos especially those who stereotype all of us. They do theses type of interviews on the streets. They should also do interviews in other places like in a busy, business district area so they can have different opinions from other Filipinos.
I LOVE the Philippines! I go there for 2 months or more every year since 2011. My wife is Filipina and lives there now. She was in the States for 18 years and had to go back. The Tourist pump huge amounts of money into the economy and many areas would not survive without us. My problem is the actions of Filipinos in regards to throwing trash everywhere and thinking it's OK because thats what everyone else is doing. I go to the Beach every morning to surf and see the mess from the night before, bottles and food trash just left right where they were consumed and this is by mostly the Filipinos traveling from Manila for a few days vacation at the Beach. I pick up their trash in my area at the Beach before I paddle out. Boracay is a place I will NEVER go back to. Drunk young Tourist everywhere and the local business could not keep up with the amount of people that the Gov allowed on the Island daily. Bad Planning! Sex Trade has been something that is allowed to go on despite whatever the news says. I do have a problem with getting charged extra just because I am White. I am also not comfortable when given the best table or seat in a restaurant because I was born White. (happens at Church a lot also) This is my experience on 12 trips to the Philippines, can't wait for my next 12 trips to my second home. Much Love from La Union!
@@omgreensexpress5396 No, he is definitely right. That kind of hospitality is hypocritical and it shouldn't be that way. Foreigners shouldn't be treated better than your average local person in any type of food establishment. A foreigner would be paying the same amount in a restaurant as a local would, right? So why should they be given a better seat?
@@Ogugua-k1w locals will gladly give up a better seat for a tourist like you..it is an ingrained hospitality and good for tourism and therefore money inflow to their country..its business..thais are like that too, even a four star general will give you directions where to get ice coffee, which was my experience
To people who get curious why Filipino's talk in mixed Tagalog and English. It's because of the American influence, if you study the Filipino Language, there are lots words that are adapted from English language just like Tourist (ENG) = Torista (Tagalog), and words that have "tion", in Tagalog it just simply becomes " syon" and many more. So most Filipinos tend to use English Words that just got adapted to Tagalog. I've lived in Philippines for more than 3 years now and will continue to live in this beautiful country
JuizZy turista is direct from Spanish like a great majority of Filipino words Tagalog also has a sprinkling of Malay words the use and pronunciation are different but the spelling is identical.
That's what a truly multilingual population looks like. It's just like spanglish. Growing up in El Paso, I learned that spanglish gets way more done than English or Spanish...
They all seemed like genuinely sweet people with no real hatred or malice for tourists. That’s great cuz Duterte is a nut and I don’t want to be afraid of going there.
Angel Cat I don’t care. He’s crazy. I can still love the people, the country and the culture even if a few don’t like me because I don’t like one single person who commits human rights violations.
Angel Cat so? Why is that supposed to mean people shouldn’t like me just because I don’t like one person who commits human rights violations. If I am there to love the people and not the president I feel that would speak poorly of them if they could not accept my admiration because of that. I wouldn’t hold it against any foreign person who dislikes Trump as they would have good reason to.
This is the effect of the exaggeration of the international news. Judging the President just by watching CNN, BBC and whatever TV station is that doesn't entitle you to call our President a nut. You haven't been in this country even just for second so you don't have even a minute idea how to be a Filipino and how to have a President like him.
Jonard Nabartey the issue of Duterte being a nut doesn't have anything to do with the issues of the Philippines. That's not an excuse. He can call the president a nut, just like how Duterte talks badly about who he perceives as his enemies, just as many people on social media like to label groups of people as this or that. You can be a critic of the president without being a president.
Well I cant wait to come to your beautiful country, with beautiful loving people! !!....I promise to pick up all my trash....even if its not mine!...I will bring the best of USA and look forward to learning and understanding your culture more. Peace n Love to the People of the Philippines! !!!....see you soon!!!.....
English is taught in the Philippines since elementary school. It was more focused and paid attention than Filipino. Signs, papers and formalities are expressed in English. That's why Filipinos adapted the English vocabulary as their speaking medium. The Filipino-English medium is recognized as "Taglish" which is commonly spoken by students, newly graduated professionals and wealthy people.

Maybe, this situation also speaks to cultural differences as well.
In the Philippines, speaking entirely in English is too “academic” and formal. Speaking entirely in Filipino (or whatever local dialect) is either too “academic”, archaic, or sounds like a political speech...
A mix of a local dialect and english makes a conversation more informal...

I’m just mesmerized at how they can mix English/ Spanish words into their language and speak so fast.
A la Trends Where you from? What country?
It's called the product of almost 500 years of imperial colonization lol. To be blunt and honest.
I'll tell you a secret. We have a subject called SpanEngFil. Haha jk
Anglicisms and Spanish vocabulary are embedded into Filipino languages due to having been a Spanish and American colony.
I speak Spanish and the Filipino language is so crazy, many words in Spanish and then they include English sentences with Tagalog, it's really something else, is like whatever word they lack in Tagalog they have it in Spanish and then finish it with English.... Talk about a cultural revolution LOL
Actually not necessarily i speak tagalog and i study spanish, so actually for some words, he have a spanish version and an alternate word for tagalog
street: spanish borrowed word is kalye/kalsada, and tagalog would be daan (kalye-calle isn't used, but kalsada-calsada is)
Chair: spanish- silya, tagalog-upuan/bangko (silya-silla this word isn't really used)
And also numbers, numbers are interchangable, we use both tagalog numbers and spanish numbers but theyre used in different ways, u can use spanish numbers 1-10 when u play cards, but u dont use tagalog numbers for that, u can use tagalog numbers when referring to something in a general way, but for me when dealing with money, I use spanish numbers like bente-veinte...por ejemplo pregunto a vendedor, cuanto cuesta, y después puede decir "bente" pesos
we mix
"Asong-kalye". Stray dog.
It's colonization actually
I wanna learn Spanish. I heard you have your own Spanglish? Is this real?
I'm now interested how they keep mixing English words in their sentences. Fascinating. And then I would imagine how their ancestors would say the same sentences but with a full Filipino language.
Sinister Strawberry AsianBoss has covered this topic, please watch as it is quite interesting
Sinister Strawberry There is no full Filipino language. You can't recognize it because of the Malay pronunciation, but they are using a lot of bastardized Spanish words like kamusta ka instead of commo est ta
Filipino language is 15% Spanish too... cada hora ---> *kada oras* . Some Filipino words are also similar with Bahasa Indonesian.
Actually, our language, Filipino is mixed of Malay and Spanish language...and English came later bc Americans came in early 1900s and English is also taught in school and textbooks in Science and Math today. But, most of the mix speakers (of Taglish Tagalog+English) were mostly found in Metro Manila but if you go to the southern part of the country in Visayas and Mindanao people speak there purely in their dialects which is mostly Bisaya/Cebuano!
we really cant speak pure filipino language in our everyday conversation.we are more comfortable to speak taglish.
These are bright young Filipinos. I was expecting biased answers, because these days not many people are willing to look at the view from all sides if some of the blame could be their own. They seemed very open minded and logical.

Wrong conclusion. Boracay was closed because it's just dirty. Nothing to do with hatred of tourists per se.
Bobby Alexander Datingaling Actually the tourists(and or locals) have a part in the closure. The trash is just thrown basically everywhere
Wasn't it because of non-compliance to sewage something? But yeah definitely not hatred of tourists(is that even possible for Philippine culture?).
Cyril Garcia have you ever been in boracay? It's really clean compare to cities in the philippines. And sewerage system is the main problem which is also a problem in the whole country.
Boracay is now a garbage because of 2 reasons: poor law enforcement and oligarchs who only cares about profit.
felix labayen year. I agree. You got the correct Q&A. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Im with you on this. I was also confused. Asian Boss should change the title. Cause it's given that majority of the Filipino's were glad and fine with the tourists because they bring business and they help in promoting the Philippines 😊👏👊👍
I love Asian Boss but I agree that this video didn't cover it all.

Most Filipinos know about that issue....at least I am. And it's really disappointing.
You hit the nail on the head👌

Tagalog sounds rather funny to me, it's the repeat language, every once in a while they say the same words close to each other such as krung krung (crazy), mahal na mahal kita (love you a lot), miss na miss kita (miss you a lot), so I started to make my own such as busy na busy or eat na eat, it was appreciated there :)
they kiss your ass because your white. How does that feel?
They treated me as an equal who is slightly taller. We had lots of fun together there. If there was any ass-kissing I didn't notice. The skin tone thing doesn't matter to me at all, here in Sweden after all people go to tanning salons to get tanned and they pay a lot to do so. People tend to want what they don't have themselves.
i will have to disagree with one of the comments... they don't kiss ass, it's just their nature. we were there last year, service was excellent everywhere, we are not white but treated with respect. you could say it's part of their job, ok, but that's how waiters and waitresses here in the US normally treat customers too and they do it to everyone regardless of skin tone.
the same way it felt when obama kissed yours

Hello, my fellow lobster. 👋
Why blame the government if the people can't simply follow a certain law and then blame the government what a typical Filipino mindset lakas makablame sa government
I think it's not the government, that's people basic common sense to clean their own trash. Because they feel that the government is too lenient, so they abuse it.
Yeah true
Ganyan naman eh, sanay tayo na pag pag hindi maganda, gobyerno..

Wayne Samuel government corruption, plain and simple.
Don't count on Filipinos do admit to it. It will be the fault of foreigners first.
justin g what does locals throwing garbage have to do with the government?

Colonialism does that.
Don't forget we also have Malay and Japanese words too incorporated in our language :D
Their language. o,o English is much more present than in japanese. And that "pero" thing..is that from spanish? Very interesting dialect!
We also have a spanish version of por que - porke.
Yep "pero" is based on a spanish word
Rezolutionist pero means but in the PH
"ngunit" is the right filipino term but "pero" is commonly used
Tagalog (Filipino) is based in Spanish:)
I visited the Philippines in 1993 just for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed seeing the young people having some fun together and a lot of laughter. I was 20 at the time and it was my first time traveling overseas alone. My favorite place was Tacloban.

_Nah. We just like mixing English with Filipino. We're so much influenced by Americans_
Government? Really!!?
I think it's the peoples fault. Why cuz they don't have any type of discipline at all.
Both are terrible imo
Nah man both. Corruption is still prominent inside all government sects and most of the citizens are either too stubborn or too untrusting to comply.

And that is all the reason why boracay was closed. poor waste management that is affecting the water around it with algae, not because of hatred of tourist, something has to be done before the damage is irreparable.
koushinproductions yeah we practically worship them whites.. right? :D
Its expensive to travel. I'd like to visit a place like this, but no spare $.

It’s because English is our second language. 🙂
I love how the healthy stereotype that Filipinos are warm and friendly is shown perfectly here.
We're a Second world country, is different
Jonard Nabartey I think Catholicism is the best thing we could have. Better than Islam and we're free. We also remember that our Revolution was also started by the martyrdom of Gomburza
I think you couldn't compare one religion to another. There is no better religion than the other one. We should just respect each other religion, that is the how things work.
はい、それは本当です。ハハハハハ。
The people welcoming the tourists at the end really shows how friendly and hospitable the Filipinos are in general :) !!
A Public Service Announcement: Filipino is NOT Tagalog. Filipino is based on Tagalog with several loanwords from Spanish. A lot of the people I've encountered like to interchange these two terms.
Here's a very good example:
English: Alphabetical Catalogue of Surnames
Spanish: Catálogo alfabético de apellidos
Filipino: Alpabetikong Katalogo ng mga Apelyido
Tagalog: Katitikang Talaan ng mga Ngalang-angkan
You'll notice that the Filipino and Spanish ones are pretty much the same, while the Tagalog one is way off.
Got teased in a good way. Because it's hard to learn Filipino in school. Braaaabagol. Hahahahhaha.....

I pick up their trash in my area at the Beach before I paddle out.

white people are connected with money and that is the simple reason
To people who get curious why Filipino's talk in mixed Tagalog and English. It's because of the American influence, if you study the Filipino Language, there are lots words that are adapted from English language just like Tourist (ENG) = Torista (Tagalog), and words that have "tion", in Tagalog it just simply becomes " syon" and many more. So most Filipinos tend to use English Words that just got adapted to Tagalog.

I'm half filipino & grew up in Quezon. I even went to an international school lol. We spoke english 24/7 there & we aren't allowed to speak Tagalog.
Surprised - and glad - that Filipino youth are well informed and conversant with issues. Amazing!
