This is one of the most insane controversies of Philippines history. When I lived in the Philippines (2008-2010) all sorts of people in the provinces would said martial law is a disciplined and prosperous time. Now living here again in Metro (since 2019) it is quite apparent that it isn’t so simple as people said before.
There is no controversy. Germans believing the Jews sold Germany out in WW1 is not a controversy. It's simply a matter of dumb people believing dumb things.
@@markus711 Mark my work that BBM will just be running so that him & his "cronies" will steal whatever it takes. And curses to that Duterte (pweh!). May he rot in Hell.

Yes. She's young so even if she did not experience the dictatorship period, she researched and studied a lot to unveil the truth. Fake news and disinformation can easily manipulate people who don't research carefully and thoroughly.
Or maybe the USA meddled just as they do now with “misinformation” and she fell for it. Warmongers like the Biden administration love to meddle in foreign affairs and they’re doing it again because they fear the Filipinos will align with china. So warp the youth via social media and get them to call the leader a dictator.

@@gio_ci My parents were in college as well and the only thing they can say about the Martial Law days was that it was peaceful (not great but peaceful at least).
what’s happening here is not only history distortion/revisionism but as well history relativism. some people invalidating the experiences of those who suffered from martial law just because they themselves hasn’t experienced it, and it really is saddening. yes, partially this problem may have been caused by people who doesn’t research well, but to be honest, this wouldn’t have happened in the first place if those “government officials” didn’t created such disinformation.
Im not gonna counter that marcos camp really did very well in rebuilding their image among the masses- it was so well planned and they were very patient, probably a decade or two of preparation. They’re dangerous but there’s something i would commend about them, theyre way smarter than the previous political camp. But i believe that is 50% of the cause. The other 50% is mostly on an ongoing but unrecognized people’s revolt against LP. Two elections straight with the highest voter turnouts and landslide wins against any LP representative, it says something and marcs simply took advantage at the ripest time and to take sarah as the best image for that revolt. Reality is LP became too overconfident and this is their undoing- media, education-they had the tools to maintain a narrative but it was not enough to fool an ordinary filipino’s human condition. Marcoses are the same as any oligarch, whats important is that we always show the sentiment of the majority whoever sits there, whether that be for the better or worse. If the marcoses are in it for the long game like lp or his father, he better do well and im holding on to this social pressure to guide him rather than his innate “morals” most people tend to believe in
some people are also invalidating the good experiences of the people who felt the martial law was great because they themselves hasn't experienced it, people should be neutral because we don't know the whole story
Have you checked the alleged human rights abuses during martial law and compared it to the alleged human rights abuses during the first aquino administration? You mentioned something about historical distortion. Has it ever occurred to you that distortion may have been done against Marcos Sr’s administration himself?
How is this about "people who doesn't research well" about Martial Law when it is being taught in school? I can't quite follow what you mean with that? Isn't it the same history that taught us as Cory as the icon of democracy? So, I don't get the notion of this whole election thing of "disinformation" when "Marcos" was the most hated family name in history. If people will push for ELECTION FRAUD then better file a petition to PET if they've got solid evidences to back up their claim because that's the proper venue for it, not in EDSA/anywhere to rally to gain public sympathy or media mileage because that's not how and where they will claim justice if there's any electrion fraud.
"Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is a sin." The best hope for Filipinos here is to become educated, achieve a good character, and discern truth. For always, power hungry elitist and ignorant masses are the greatest factor for the Philippines to be doomed. Politicians and dictators love taking advantage of the vulnerable and minority. As you go on your life, you can then spot disagreeable things around you. From the notion of "following rules" to "rights and privileges", a broader understanding in the spectrum of life is indeed important. A very valuable necessity for not just Filipinos but to everyone.
Not really sad. Majority of Filipinos were glad Marcos Jr. won, its not because he's a Marcos family member or son of a former President but because he's the only best choice among all candidates and if former Vice President Leni Robredo won, the country would collapse much faster under her leadership. The Filipinos have seen her performace and it was a complete utter flop, she's an idiot, making lies, credit grabber, had ties with the ill fated Liberal Party and that's why Filipinos should never let Leni win again because of failure as a Vice President while attempting to put the great President Duterte into a trap.

I have interviewed and helped martial law victims who were raped and tortured multiple times it breaks my heart to see people say that their experiences were made up or fabricated… they lost limbs, family members, and theirselves while the military made them suffer. People MUST validate their information before making a decision
but have you interviewed people who were at peace during martial law? do you know the statistics of victims per capita? are these martial law victims activists? and why is the blame only on military personnel? what about the communist rebellion? what happened to them? why are they always never mentioned whenever we discuss martial law? aren't they also subjected to human rights violation? how many people died by communists hands compared to people that were killed by the military? considering Marcos had 20 years of rule, why were there less human rights abuses compared to cory's 6 year term? and why aren't we talking about her instead of marcos since more human rights abuses were made during her term? why is marcos so important? why is he considered a dictator considering he was elected via vote 4 times and won? cory literally had 1 year of exercising all 3 of government powers before 1987 constitution was made. shouldnt she be considered a dictator as well? i have so many questions but people REFUSE to answer because they think of marcos as the epitome of evil yet the philippines hasnt been well off since he was ousted.
"People MUST validate their information before making a decision" It doesn't happen. HOW can stupid people in censored information environments validate information? It's impossible. The only way to get correct beliefs is carefully letting observations (evidence) change your mind. None of the people in this video have good chances to be rational, so they don't have much chance to get better and better beliefs over time. Same with Cuba, North Korea, Fox News zombies, etc. If you don't let reality change your beliefs in a very careful, precise way, you can't even hope to be right.
All I hear is blah, blah, blah. So, after 30 plus years you failed to convict any Marcoses. Why? My best guess. You're all dumb to differentiate between facts & propaganda.
You can clearly divide from this interview the character of those who voted for Marcos and those who did not. The thorough information discernment of those who did not and the complacency of those who did.
Not sure it's "thorough information discernment", but there's an easy tell that one is wrong: one supports a PERSON, not a PLATFORM or POSITION. If you state values, priorities, tradeoffs that you support, you might be correct. If you state a person or group, you're 100% certain to be wrong. F@cK'n' ootlickers.
So you are saying all the 31 Million people who voted for Marcos but whose stance are more rational but not presented here are dumb? Your comment is exactly why Marcos won and not say Leni who judges everyone who does not favor her as trolls, misinformed, or dumb.
I've noticed from this comment section that when people bring up criticisms of the Marcos dictatorship and its impact on society, some pro-Marcos individuals tend to respond defensively. Rather than engaging with the substance of the criticisms or facts presented, they often resort to ad hominem attacks or deflect the conversation by bringing up other political figures like Leni Robredo. To me, this behavior is indicative of a deeper issue with social media discourse - a focus on winning arguments or proving oneself right, rather than having a meaningful conversation. By prioritizing pride and sensationalized trends over the actual substance of the issue, people may be missing out on important opportunities to learn from different perspectives and engage in productive discussions. In order to have a more comprehensive understanding of the complex issues surrounding the Marcos dictatorship, it's important to focus on the historical record and the facts. We should be willing to listen to opposing viewpoints and engage in constructive dialogue, rather than simply trying to score points or prove a point.
This should be a case study on how you win elections using social media. As a Filipino, I am embarrassed to say how quickly Filipinos are easily influenced by what they see or read on Facebook. This is why Pinoy Baiting is such a huge trend now with Content Creators because the immense pride Filipinos get from being recognized for their culture, food, etc literally blows up someone’s social media presence.
The Philippines took part in the Program for International Student Assessment (Pisa) for the first time in 2018, the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Also, Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM). You can use these as references. Across the three assessments, poor learning results were observed among students in the Philippines, with more than 80 percent of them falling below minimum levels of proficiency expected for the respective grades. The country was last in reading and second to last in science and mathematics among 79 countries in Pisa. In TIMSS, it ranked last in both mathematics and science among 58 countries in the fourth-grade assessment. In SEA-PLM, it was among the bottom half of the six countries in reading, mathematics, and writing literacy. You add disinformation from social media, triggered by Cambridge Analytica and you have a recipe for disaster.
well if your basis are just that then your ability to understand the real situation in the philippines are just based on the so called common media, if trully marcos sr. is a bad president then after his removal the philippines ecojomy should have been still 2nd or better than japan, stronger military and industries might still be there. sorry tell you but the killings are all based on communist terrorist movement which most filipinos love to see, since they had been terrorizing the country for morethan 50 years and yes we all want these communist dead on the streets or jungle and seas

To give a view on the mindset of the majority of the voters in the Philippines, It's a popularity contest. Doesn't matter if you're a corrupt fat old dude but because they see you on the TV all the time, just make a few false promises and they'd immediately accept you. The Philippines loves a strong leader, strong = manliness so Leni (the opposition) is deemed by many (mostly the old voters) not to be suited because of her being a woman and how disastrous the aquino term was (but the thing is, Ferdinand's last term is already failing the Philippines). I'm by no means a Marcos supporter (Wanted lacson to win), I only want honest answers for BBM but thus far he actively avoided all of these questions like his life depends on it. Like what happened to the gold? Why install so many already proven corrupt politicians? Faked Diplomas? Just what is your priority for the Philippines, is it to revise history to make the people glorify your family again or to make it better? -- because so far, all of your focuses deemed to be falling into the former with you spending the taxpayer's money with your damn parties. Basically, I just want honesty. And my opinion on all of this? The Philippines is doomed. Every single old supporters of his are literally fanatics who'll go so far to attack the accused parties. There’s no “English” in Tagalog language. They’re literally speaking both English and Tagalog at the same time since it’s easier to use English words than Tagalog sometimes. On the other hand, there are Spanish loanwords that became part of Filipino language, but many of those loanwords already have different meaning. Some of those Spanish loan words actually have their original or “Pure” Tagalog words. For example The word “Government”. Masyado tayong kampante sa sarili nating abilidad bilang tao na kaya natin magfilter ng information on our own pero time and time again media outlets and advertisement companies has proven na kayang imanipulate and decision-making nating mga tao. So please, stop with this narrative na di critical thinkers ang voters.
I disagree. If that's what you think, then you're admitting that individuals alone are powerless against disinformation. The groups who hold the power will always find ways to keep it, and they will not easily bend to what the masses/country needs, but to what THEY want. You just can't ask them to stop. Why would they?
Yes they are accountable , pero may choice ang tao . It's our choice to consumed all information be it propaganda or not ,without giving a second thought , without questioning validating
I appreciate all your valid comments. Im just trying to give another perspective. Pero as consumers, we are entitled to fight back against these tech powerhouses. Since powerful sila, hayaan na lng natin silang gamitin lahat ng information natin against our will to manipulate us? Yes may option sa settings to limit the use of our information, pero they will still find ways para sa kanilang agenda. It's like living it two different realities. It happens everywhere to any age group. It's like a horror film where people are getting their brains sucked out and replaced by some kind of parasite. You're constantly trying to remind them of who they were but they can't hear you. The internet wasn't a mistake per se but it definitely was one of those things that became a problem once bad-faith individuals got their hands on it. People who just 5 or 10 yrs ago didn't believe in lies and conspiracy now not only believe them but defend them as if they had lived with this belief all their lives.
Just two points: 1. Clearly, you can see the educational crisis that our country is facing for a long time. Filipinos would rather believe on what they see on social media rather than what they have learned in school, in HEKASI and Social Studies. 2. The people in the video who are for BBM acknowledged, in one way or another, that the Marcoses did something wrong in the past. One man even mentioned that not because Marcos Sr. was a criminal would mean that BBM will also be a criminal. Isn't it ironic that there are still Filipinos who do not or fail to acknowledge that the Marcoses were judged by the Supreme Court to be guilty with a number of crimes that they have committed. At the end of the day, we have no choice but to deal with whatever government that we have. I am one with the other guy who said, "Sana mali ako."
Philippines was the tiger of Asia during Marcos’ regime. We were not bullied by other countries. After his regime, look at us. Hope Filipinos will stand as one and support our leader, instead of being divided.

The problem is a lot of controversy revolves around the marcosses and the biggest among them was the acusation of the previous president cory about how the marcosses stole biilions of funds on the nations coffers. You know whats the main reason why another marcos is back in the presidentsy? The answer is very simple the edsa revolution is a failure. Cory adminstration has failed to deliver the changes and the promises that she had pledge to the filipino people, and her term is not a very peaceful term at all, it was actually full of controversy the same for the succeeding president since the Marcos era.
The reason behind it is filipinos are forgetful and are easy to toy with. Appeal to their emotion and make them belive you are their hero they will vote for you no matter how incompetent you are.
When I traveled to PH for the first time in 1992 , Most of Filipinos had animosity against Marcos family but they changed. EDSA revolution fell into oblivion.

There are numerous times when Duterte kept speaking out to Leni as if its like a family arguement. Its suprising how leader like this would be so stupid. And also when you researched the partylist groups that supports for each candidates, Leni had several Partylist Groups that were linked to the CPP-NPA-NDF Communist Terrorist Groups.
My personal opinion on this is neutral, I'm a Filipino, Ilokano pero hindi ko type si BBM, nor type ko si Leni Robredo o iba pa. I respect those who is in position, no matter who they are.
Anyways, they're still young. For those na nagsasabi na walang platform, di lang unity platform niya, anyone who listens knows main priority niya yung agriculture aside from infrastructure and education, kita naman sa news eh.
A perfect example of America influencing the Filipino people, focusing on fighting each other instead of working together to better the nation, while using media to separate its people. They all sound just like the bickering democrats and republicans in America who stay divided and continue to fight each other while the country stays in turmoil. As a Filipino national who Immigrated to America at a young age due to parents and growing up here, I really hope for the best for the Filipino people and for them to truly be independent from the influences of other nations that have no intent to better the Filipino people. Stay strong, stop fighting each other and think for yourselves. Mabuhay! 🇵🇭

Republic Act 10368. In 2013, Philippine Congress passed Republic Act 10368 or the Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013. The law created the Human Rights Violations Claims Board and provided reparations to victims of summary execution, torture, enforced disappearances, and other human rights violations committed under the regime of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Compensation came from P10 billion of stolen wealth seized by the government from the Marcoses. A total of 11,103 victims of human rights violations under Martial Law received compensation in 2018. A bill filed in Congress in 2020 proposes to compensate tens of thousands of people who are still not officially recognized as victims of state-sponsored violence during the Marcos regime.

The main problem of the Philippines is the legacy of colonialism and because our country has been at the end of the world from its colonizers (both Spain and the US, though not our neighbor Japan) the legacy of self-colonialism (we always need to cooperate with our colonizers in order for them to colonize us). Colonialsm and self-colonialism have given our politicians the idea that the country is the object of plunder. I hope BBM will break this cycle in his actions (and not just his words), but I have my doubts. His parents plundered the country. I hope BBM has transcended that very real past of criminality.

Isn't it funny how it's usually the old people who lived under Marcos Sr's regime that says it wasn't all that bad but it's the kids who didn't live under his time saying otherwise?
You can really see how those who voted for Marcos answered the questions vs those who criticized Marcos. As Filipino, many of them think that because he is the son of former Dictotaro Marcos Sr., they think Marcos Jr. is as good as his father. But for the past 6 years, what does Marcos Jr. did at his balwarte(hometown)? vs other candidates?
This is similar like fascism in Europe, new generation who don't even know what are they voting...some decade pass and looks like people forgot what is dictatorial country or fascist country, so sad bcs now media has a lot of power and is full corrupt.
Europe is now too liberal after the Cold War but in the case of Asia where some of them have a non-democratic rule like in China, North Korea, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. because some of them doesn't like the western style democracy either they want a conservative one or an authoritarian rule.

“government officials” didn’t created such disinformation.
If the marcoses are in it for the long game like lp or his father, he better do well and im holding on to this social pressure to guide him rather than his innate “morals” most people tend to believe in
Why is it saddening.? They failed to teach their history. Now they will pay for it
some people are also invalidating the good experiences of the people who felt the martial law was great because they themselves hasn't experienced it, people should be neutral because we don't know the whole story

@@octavia7408 mb. Please list those rational reasons...
Hahaha, you can clearly see that they purposely interviewed two different classes. "Upper class" for anti-marcos and lower class for pro-marcos.

Remember what happened to the beatles when they came here? That's another bad thing the Marcoses have done. I love my fellow countrymen, but most of them have a very short term memory and very gullible, doesn't even research as long as their idols says so.

@@benreilman5349 Well, aristurtle did say democracy's one of the worse form of government but the best of the bad ones x)
Everyone's allowed to vote is good, but also bad at the same time. Like what happened with Biden, millions voted for him just because they hate trump lol. So many other candidates with proper diplomas and successes were ignored in the process.
Popularity does play a big role in most cases, but for me as an individual I chose based on the experience from the previous admins from the late 90s to now. So far, every admin have their own major problems with some having way more than the others.
lol i like how you point your argument to sexism. i mean if that was the case why did sara duterte get 32 million votes? i mean she's a woman 😂. and what do you mean by install bro like he can only appoint cabinet members that's it. everyone else is "installed" via election. and so far his cabinet members are valid even the opposition doesn't have a problem with it. and that fake diploma thing has already been debunked long ago people just refused to believe it. and no nobody is revising history they are only want people to understand their point of view. it is always up to the people whether to believe in them or not.
edit: also if you have a political system such as ours then it is only a given that people will vote by popularity (i voted for nograles btw). america has the same issue where it is difficult for an independent candidate to win since they they don't have the same machinery as the democrats or the republicans. so in many ways you can thank the 1987 constitution for that.

There are low-income people who voted for Leni though. Anong excuse ng majority? And how hard is it to do a simple fact-check, really?
Yes they are accountable , pero may choice ang tao . It's our choice to consumed all information be it propaganda or not ,without giving a second thought , without questioning validating
I appreciate all your valid comments. Im just trying to give another perspective.
Pero as consumers, we are entitled to fight back against these tech powerhouses. Since powerful sila, hayaan na lng natin silang gamitin lahat ng information natin against our will to manipulate us? Yes may option sa settings to limit the use of our information, pero they will still find ways para sa kanilang agenda. Sana as much as we fight for our political candidates , we also fight for the right of our future generation for a more ethical social media environment.
This was a good discussion. Thank you for being respectful sa comments.
Just look at how some of these folks are answering the questions. It’s so surface level that it’s insane that they are voters.
I think many ppl, including myself have just been more shocked at how stupid or weak-minded people are as a whole. People who just 5 or 10 yrs ago didn't believe in lies and conspiracy now not only believe them but defend them as if they had lived with this belief all their lives.

Just two points:

The problem is a lot of controversy revolves around the marcosses and the biggest among them was the acusation of the previous president cory about how the marcosses stole biilions of funds on the nations coffers. There was even a trial of the century before when Mrs. Imelda won the case against hundreds of cases that was issued agaisnt her family
BBM’s victory wasnt really illegtimate as the people really have spoken to go to with him as the new president and even in survey he was leading since the first result and was way ahead over leni during the campaign period . Most of Leni supporters arent really voters and her campaign caused lots of toxcicity to the people and the opposition and the people are fed up with the liberals and leftist because they did nothing good to the country and plus she has opposed a lot ( I mean soem fo her oppsoing views are okay but the res it wasnt helping anymore ) in Duterte’s administration and we all know majority love Duterte’s presidency.

This is very interesting. I'm wondering why my fellow countrymen still like Marcos.
@@omniyambot9876 Well, martial law's brunt fell on the people in Manila whereas people in the remote provinces experienced it less. Perhaps people identify with the macho style of leadership and don't care who gets trampled in the process (too bad for them). Marcos and his wife made international contacts which led to our labor export. He aslo accelerated transmigration to Mindanao (loyal Ilocanos to counter the Muslims). The funny thing is thatth e poor identify with those who are stealing from them blid. That's really d=sad.
For Bong Bong, this is his chance to either fix his families reputation or tarnish it forever. And remember as a MNLF leader once said "the fault of the father cannot be inherited by the son and vice versa"
@@gamechanger8908 Let's hope Bong 2 is satisfied with the 6 yrs the 1987 Constitution granted him. Maybe he'll just give way to Sara Duterte.
What a very biased title. He has a name, you know.
Marcos Jr doesnt have a single achievements = no name.
I feel bad about my fellow filipinos because they are fighting who's right and wrong and if these continue I think there will be civil war I wish all filipino are nice to each other instead of fighting each other
civil war will never gonna happened to this country. I doubt it!
True..nakakasad talaga ,even if Marcos is not the Pres. There's always chaos., divison.
Thats why i hate politics.
You can really see the difference in terms of answer, mind condition, perception, and critical thinking of the older generation and the new generation.
Masaya kaming lahat.....
Enjoy kayo maghirap HAHAHA
Mor, y'all can say Marcos was not a dictator, but if all foreign media labels him as dictator, indeed he was.
You can't hide the sun with a finger.
Isn't it funny how it's usually the old people who lived under Marcos Sr's regime that says it wasn't all that bad but it's the kids who didn't live under his time saying otherwise?
LOL complaining about corrupt officials while voting for one, what a joke
Don't you know that Leni Robredo is friends with the one that got shot at Ateneo? You know, that Mayor/Drug Lord....

Would have been more interesting if you interviewed actual intellectuals from both sides. The choice of the people interviewed in this video clearly shows the bias of the interviewer.
There is no actual INTELLECTUAL if you side with wrong. The facts are available. If you decide to defend marcoses for their sins, it is either you are dumb or PAID.
It is sad people tend to forget and never learn from history.
Agreed. It's sad that people complain about the results of the democratic process, regardless of who wins.
Remember what the actress Ella Cruz made a controversial quote about history is like a gossip either it was manipulated by lies or something? Well what if the EDSA Revolution is also full of lies as well like it wasn't a Filipino staged revolution but rather it was staged by the CIA and US government who had a grudge against FEM because they'd feared that he was turning back his support to the US since the end of Vietnam War?
They can't forget what they haven't experienced personally. Reading from books and actually living through history aren't the same thing. Very unfortunate what has happened in the PH
Agree. But as a Filipino, we can't do anything now since Marcos is the new president, so I think it's better to support him and be vigilant.
History can be change who ever is the winner...so forget the past and focused in the future..m
Truly saddened for the Philippines. I pray this president doesn't turn out to be the dictator they think he isn't.

i honestly don't understand why people call him a dictator. i mean he won all 4 of his elections via VOTE. why are people assuming that there were no elections during his administration?

As Indonesian, the situation might be similar if Tommy Soeharto (son of a dictator president Soeharto) to rule again in here.
The fact, Tommy now is a leader of a small political party, and he's not succed with that.
It's hard to imagine how it is feel for us if Tommy get the power again.

Yeah. Know-it-all generation.
Stupid reasoning. Go to Bantayog ng mga Bayani to see the names of the victims, then check economic record from all over the world to know the living condition during that time. Truly saddening of how the internet is misleading these young youths. But i am so mind blown of how they think so critically and with pride. Especially the girl with curly hair. She is really determined and really sticked to her own pride. I mean everyone has their own opinions about this, but so far this lady really enraged me. She’s the one to talk complaining how Marcos promised to decrease the production of foods, but yet she doesn’t know that’s not in his hands. It will be a downgrade too for our country if it went down. Many companies will be bankrupted and may lead to a downfall to the countries economy. She’s the one acting as if she has no money or job. You have the urge to say that when you yourself have a job. You’ll have the right to say those things if you don’t have a job. Many youths nowadays educate themselves through many different platforms and sources of the internet. But it’s truly disheartening that they don’t know what they’re saying. They’re the one to talk acting they existed by the time it happened. They’re the one acting as if they actually saw it with their own eyes.
