I was fortunate enough to witness Russ' creations in person when Exile was still in the Valley (late 90s).
At a time of ugly, overpriced, stretched out cartoonish billet barges with Easter Egg paint jobs (that now sell at scrap prices in SoCal) Russ' chops stood out and were the polar opposite of the yuppie choppers being churned out by Reality TV soap operas.
His minimalist style, chunky front ends were made for riders instead of posers. His bikes looked fast standing still. The lack of chrome and flash, replaced with satin black and raw aluminum evoked the essence of hotrodding. They looked like an old front engine dragster or AA Fueler. Russ' bikes stand the test of time and are still cool. To each their own, but I'd skip the graphics and run it raw....along with the Hammer of course. It's a piece of chopper history done correct. Just my 2 cents.

I don't know how often or how you look for bikes but I'm always looking even when I don't need any extra bikes.
CL, Cycle Trader, Offer up, estate sales, driving around looking at properties and clues of what might be hidden for sale.
I look at listings across the country. An era billet barge was recently picked up for $4500 by a friend. Even during the HD Yuppie era, steals were to be had which I personally witnessed. Yuppies or noobs spent big $$$$ only to find they lacked ability or just didn't like riding.
These poor decisions sit languishing in garages next to treadmills covered in laundry. They're out there. Where do you think Kaplan finds bikes? He's not making profit paying what an owner "thinks" their worth. Many chops were cashing in on a fad and bunches were sold in my area off a showroom floor.

the Exile, Russell Mitchell, ive been following his work since i first saw that trike vs the Occ team, that trike was sick. i became a fan then and there, the huge choppers started started looking glam-rock-tacky which was trending at the time. dont get me wrong they were cool and if it weren't for these shows showcasing that style alot of people would still be ignorant about bikes, ive always liked the stretched out chopper look but i need a bike i can ride and be more practical, Russell steps in with his Bobbers, which were simple, but stylish. dude was punk rock and it reflected in his rides. he pretty much is the godfather of modern Bobbers. we can thank him for bringing back that movement and influenced me into building one, and riding it every chance i get.
