What's funny about the LoL comparisons is that they used to have a staple DotA archetype in there with pre-rework Sion, his kit was a single-target stun that couldn't miss, a toggle that buffed his damage at the cost of his hp, a self-cast Abaddon shield, and an install ult that further increased his attack and movespeed for 20 seconds. After the rework the shield is the only thing that stayed, everything else is skillshots now.

Its very confusing design philosphy to me because you need point and click abilities to counter hypermobile champs, but then they make everything a skillshot while also making everyone hypermobile with a million dashes so it becomes kind of conflicted in terms of design. idk if you ask me leagues issue of hypermobility stems almost soley from the fact there is no turn time. Dota fixes so much infinite kiting cheese by simply implementing a turn speed. its actually genius, and allows games to be much slower and strategic instead of dashing from fog, 100-0 then dashing out.

I started to look back at my replays/recordings a few years back and it's mind-blowing just how unreliable my memory is. Getting the correct conclusions is mega important to the improvement loop so I kept the habit of recording my games if there isn't a readily available replay function, which sadly is true for a lot of games even today although shadowplay made it a lot easier. On another note Windranger always felt meh to me as a hero, I played her for a while (a few years ago when I was still serious about DOTA2) and I just don't think there is a job someone else can't do better. Even if you just want to hit skill shots, hitting her skills just doesn't feel very good and I'd pick someone with huge ults if I want to scratch that itch.
I find her to be a very simple character, she works a bit like pudge, you need to think where the hook is going and connect the shackle to the point, granted her shackle can sometimes latch nothing surrounded by tree's and creeps though. She needs items and can only really deal with one problem at a time is her main issue.

I think the casino might be the point of picking WR in elim games. At that point you know that your dependable stuff probably doesn't work so your best chance is to roll the dice.
Everything Slacks said hold true till this day, and what you've said at 33:08 hlds true, especially at TI. Both Clinkz and Windranger were ignored (not picked nor banned) along with 6 others. This means that there are heroes that are better at what they can do. The last time Windranger was relevant was at ESL One Stockholm 2022 where Ceb played pos 5 Windranger that focused on getting the shard as early as possible and play around that. After that tournament, WR was nerfed to the ground, especially her shard to what it is today, where at the time of the tournament, shard was global. Sure there are ways to circumvent these inherent weakness of WR's kit, but what Slacks said in the video sums up what the hero can offer in a game.
WR's shard actually does fix the problem about commitment. She can start a fight from a million miles away at basically no cost. It just took Ceb to figure it out.
Back in Dota1 I always buy Dagon 5 for Alleria and found that it's easier to win that way using her. The skills commitment is 100% true and Dagon5 seals the kill.

You're pretty much getting net neutral benefits, when you should be taking advantage of the attack speed factor with items with a chance proc like mkb.. or Basher even.

One if you're s support thats fine because you are just a support, why eould a carry use up an item slot just for you. If you're mid you still have a powerspike before they have MKB Note; I think WR kinda sucks a bit more now because they removed 2nd charge of windrun from Aghs, that was a real good aghs upgrade demonstrated by Yopaj. End note: I used to be a pos 4 WR main, before I switched to being a Pos 5 Venge main. And here are things to say she can work as a support only as a counterpick to right clickers. Then you MUST be good at landing your skillshots, otherwise you are useless, so positioning matters, shackleshot for good early harrass then in teamfights I usually stay at the backline throwing shackleshots I know will hit, and following it up with Powershot. Last Tip: NEVER and I say NEVER throw a shackleshot if it won't connect, it is a waste of mana and baits your team. That being said she can only work it you know how to play her and if the enemies have right clickers, otherwise other supports are a better choice, which is why I switched to being a pos 5 Venge.

I agree with him. Ever since they put the movement speed lock on her, she's been getting worse with each patch since. Now her scepter upgrade of 2 windruns has been removed and she's just too slow to get around the map without boots of travel. When you unlocked her move speed, you could windrun at 850 move speed. Scepter Slark is the king of map mobility now.
The heroes are based on Blizzard characters only by the sheer fact that they used their models in the mod for obvious reasons, but their lore was always different from the start, so no Drow and wind are not sisters, wind was presented as human on dota, then they kind of went and pushed her into elf species for some reason.
As someone with over one thousand matches as windranger, I can confirm that 12:55 diffusal is one of the biggest trap items for this hero, PLEASE never buy this in your guy's pubs.
Clinkz has a lot of bad matchup mid and generelly needs a lot of help till lvl 6, atleast if the opponent knows what to do. I love clinkz but didnt play him for a long time :D its hard to fit him in.

I think that sport at 10:00 is fire man ladder climbing. Basically fire departments training their muscles and having competitions in stuff that is vaguely relevant to the job.
It's totally Maiev for me in hots. Whenever i get a teammate on Maiev - he is absolute garbo. Cant do anything. Feeds. Lowest dmg on the team (yes, below tanks and healers). But when Maiev on enemy team - it's a god with no deaths. Top dmg. Most kills. And tether 4-5 people everytime, perfectly landing his Q on them.
I know this is old but WR's attack damage and armor is very low at start so you are trading downwards against other ranged mids. Her attack animation isn't that good either,makes it hard to get last hits. Her powershot isn't reliable for trades as it's quite easy to dodge if enemy has vision. You have limited access to trees for a good stun so you always have position yourself according to enemy creep but enemy mid will also move when you do that (similar to TA,but TA at least does it to get last hit). Windrunner is basically a snowball hero and after all,every hero is kinda snowball hero. She need heavy support to make it out of mid as a winner. She is not a good mid in my experience.
stats are stats: there is no reliance for them, they're just a reflections of actions transpired. Taking them into account is you coaches job, not yours.
its circular logic though, slacks was using data from pro games, and those pro statistics say wr isnt good. its also not entirely true, pros and pro drafters understand bad matchups and winning strats. If they only cared about making the statistics, the meta should be random, but it isnt.

- i would argue that marci doesnt need as much item as WR to be relevant. - Skill 1. consistent and cannot miss, WR's sackle is inconsistent. you can plan on marci's dispose but you cant plan on wr's shackle. - Skill 2. her only comital skill and somewhat of a skill shot.but atleast its area is decent enough. and the stun is consistent. - Skill 3. even if marci have no item or underleveled her skill 3 can still help her and her core survive. WR's windrun is only for herself. - ultimate . fast hit like WR but slow enemies. - Marci is STR hero so she can tank more. tl/dr : marci's skill is more consistent and you can plan on her gank, while wr's gank rely on shackle which is incosistent. and marci is tankier so at the verry least she can just jump in and tank unlike wr. so yeah, marci is a lot better than wr at support position.
Marci requires zero items to kill with her ult. Her escape makes it very easy to jump out of battle. She's a support that requires no farm to have huge game impact. Opposite case of wr

If you choose to play the hardest game, why would you ever make things easy on yourself? If you are picking heroes that have an obvious role and a reliable skillset, you are playing on easy mode. If you want easy mode, choose an easy game. This is why I play support, and I only play the squishy ones. If I make a mistake, I don't want to get out anyway, like a Slark or Wraith King, I want to wait to respawn and be ashamed of myself. And yes, I rather lose than buy Aeon disc, because I'm not a wuss. I get the skill based items, even though I completely lack skill.
Except heroes without skillshots, more often than not, are ones with no escape and no mobility, especially the traditional support options like Lion, Bane, Shaman, Disruptor, Warlock, Dazzle, Grimstroke (whose one skillshot is his least important spell), etc.
sniper, drow, clinkz these types of heroes lack mobility which is why they are better in the sidelanes with help. A consistent midlaner vs clinkz mid will win worse case scenario will go even.

As I'm not expert I just want to add one thing: I remember many of my mistakes quite clearly and very few things I did truly well. This isn't to say I don't have achievements but that I work in a different way than how the "fading effect bias" describes. If I work this way then that means others do as well, making that theory jaded.
What he mentioned is common psychological problem for common/normal mass population. Psychology is a social study/education research and not really a science, hence there is always exception. Just think of it as a market survey, cause there will always had someone IQ over 160 or some very twisted in psychological lunatic. :) Most of us didn't bound by our human nature anymore when we are adult, depending on the knowledge level and IQ bracket of society the other way round can be true.
Hey mate, I'm not psychoanalysing you since I'm not an expert and you're just a dude on the internet... But that said, I am and was very similar to you in that sense. I discovered later that I had depression, and I've only recently learned that I also have ADHD and probably autism. The first two things on that list can be related to...let's just say "a weaker fading affect bias than in mentally healthy human beings". Depressed people tend to remember their bad memories more than their good memories because their brain is literally tricking them that life is/was just endless sadness. And people with ADHD tend to remember their negative experiences more because they have a long life experience of being called srupid, lazy, etc and just generally failing to follow through on tasks that they would find easier without ADHD. So, like slacks says, the fading affect bias is (probably) a defence mechanism for a healthy human brain. If you don't think you have fading affect bias, I'm not a doctor, but for your own sake I think you should give a few moments of thought to whether you have something your should see a doctor/psychologist about.
Even if you have something, it might not be depression or ADHD, but it might be SOMETHING. Just trying to help here. If you're doing well in life then ignore this internet random and keep on killing it!
Who calculates stuns like that? The stun duration doesn't go up based on how many people you hit, that's stupid. You calculate cleaves like that because the damage is actually applied, individually, to each target hit. And it stacks as an equation when you're finding out the total damage. Stun duration on Shackleshot doesn't calculate like that.
Valve included an artwork on some later update where there was a Windranger focus firing a Techies and the killfeed had Slacks as Techies

The worst is when people ping your ability that is off cooldown when they are dead, but it was 1.5 seconds from being ready when they DID die.

Unless you plan on putting a lot of pressure on towers. Windranger literally does the opposite of this. You're pretty much getting net neutral benefits, when you should be taking advantage of the attack speed factor with items with a chance proc like mkb.. or Basher even.
deso is best when pushing, other situations it just neutralizes her ult's flaw.
Some points from slacks were correct, however some were wrong
Firstly yes WR is a garbage carry, however she can work as a support or mid.
• Don't use windrun to get into a fight, save it.
• WR can tank the frontlines only on specific heroes [right-clickers]
• Positioning matters, you don't need to overcommit
• I often see WR as a counterpick for rightclickers more than a comfort pick
• Blink dagger exists for a more reliable shackleshot
Note: If you say you can just buy MKB against WR, that's kinda fine for 2 reasons. One if you're s support thats fine because you are just a support, why eould a carry use up an item slot just for you. If you're mid you still have a powerspike before they have MKB
Note; I think WR kinda sucks a bit more now because they removed 2nd charge of windrun from Aghs, that was a real good aghs upgrade demonstrated by Yopaj.
End note: I used to be a pos 4 WR main, before I switched to being a Pos 5 Venge main. And here are things to say she can work as a support only as a counterpick to right clickers. Then you MUST be good at landing your skillshots, otherwise you are useless, so positioning matters, shackleshot for good early harrass then in teamfights I usually stay at the backline throwing shackleshots I know will hit, and following it up with Powershot.
Last Tip: NEVER and I say NEVER throw a shackleshot if it won't connect, it is a waste of mana and baits your team.
That being said she can only work it you know how to play her and if the enemies have right clickers, otherwise other supports are a better choice, which is why I switched to being a pos 5 Venge.

I agree with him. Ever since they put the movement speed lock on her, she's been getting worse with each patch since. Now her scepter upgrade of 2 windruns has been removed and she's just too slow to get around the map without boots of travel. When you unlocked her move speed, you could windrun at 850 move speed. Scepter Slark is the king of map mobility now.

The heroes are based on Blizzard characters only by the sheer fact that they used their models in the mod for obvious reasons, but their lore was always different from the start, so no Drow and wind are not sisters, wind was presented as human on dota, then they kind of went and pushed her into elf species for some reason.
As someone with over one thousand matches as windranger, I can confirm that 12:55 diffusal is one of the biggest trap items for this hero, PLEASE never buy this in your guy's pubs.

It's totally Maiev for me in hots. Whenever i get a teammate on Maiev - he is absolute garbo. Cant do anything. Feeds. Lowest dmg on the team (yes, below tanks and healers).
But when Maiev on enemy team - it's a god with no deaths. Top dmg. Most kills. And tether 4-5 people everytime, perfectly landing his Q on them.
I think ive seen it before, but waa its so good, slacks is great humorist, he could do standup comedy. I guess he is at the TI and in streams.

I know this is old but WR's attack damage and armor is very low at start so you are trading downwards against other ranged mids. Her attack animation isn't that good either,makes it hard to get last hits. Her powershot isn't reliable for trades as it's quite easy to dodge if enemy has vision. You have limited access to trees for a good stun so you always have position yourself according to enemy creep but enemy mid will also move when you do that (similar to TA,but TA at least does it to get last hit). Windrunner is basically a snowball hero and after all,every hero is kinda snowball hero. She need heavy support to make it out of mid as a winner. She is not a good mid in my experience.

its circular logic though, slacks was using data from pro games, and those pro statistics say wr isnt good. its also not entirely true, pros and pro drafters understand bad matchups and winning strats. If they only cared about making the statistics, the meta should be random, but it isnt.

It's also funny that he says he has a degree in psychology and talks about psychological tricks that make his think Windrunner is good, but doesn't recognize his own confirmation bias.
- i would argue that marci doesnt need as much item as WR to be relevant.
- Skill 1. consistent and cannot miss, WR's sackle is inconsistent. you can plan on marci's dispose but you cant plan on wr's shackle.
- Skill 2. her only comital skill and somewhat of a skill shot.but atleast its area is decent enough. and the stun is consistent.
- Skill 3. even if marci have no item or underleveled her skill 3 can still help her and her core survive. WR's windrun is only for herself.
- ultimate . fast hit like WR but slow enemies.
- Marci is STR hero so she can tank more.
tl/dr : marci's skill is more consistent and you can plan on her gank, while wr's gank rely on shackle which is incosistent. and marci is tankier so at the verry least she can just jump in and tank unlike wr.
so yeah, marci is a lot better than wr at support position.
Marci requires zero items to kill with her ult.
Her escape makes it very easy to jump out of battle.
She's a support that requires no farm to have huge game impact.

This is why I play support, and I only play the squishy ones. If I make a mistake, I don't want to get out anyway, like a Slark or Wraith King, I want to wait to respawn and be ashamed of myself. And yes, I rather lose than buy Aeon disc, because I'm not a wuss. I get the skill based items, even though I completely lack skill.
Except heroes without skillshots, more often than not, are ones with no escape and no mobility, especially the traditional support options like Lion, Bane, Shaman, Disruptor, Warlock, Dazzle, Grimstroke (whose one skillshot is his least important spell), etc.

As I'm not expert I just want to add one thing: I remember many of my mistakes quite clearly and very few things I did truly well. This isn't to say I don't have achievements but that I work in a different way than how the "fading effect bias" describes.
If I work this way then that means others do as well, making that theory jaded.
What he mentioned is common psychological problem for common/normal mass population.
Psychology is a social study/education research and not really a science, hence there is always exception.

Hey mate, I'm not psychoanalysing you since I'm not an expert and you're just a dude on the internet...
But that said, I am and was very similar to you in that sense. I discovered later that I had depression, and I've only recently learned that I also have ADHD and probably autism.
The first two things on that list can be related to...let's just say "a weaker fading affect bias than in mentally healthy human beings". Depressed people tend to remember their bad memories more than their good memories because their brain is literally tricking them that life is/was just endless sadness. And people with ADHD tend to remember their negative experiences more because they have a long life experience of being called srupid, lazy, etc and just generally failing to follow through on tasks that they would find easier without ADHD.
So, like slacks says, the fading affect bias is (probably) a defence mechanism for a healthy human brain. If you don't think you have fading affect bias, I'm not a doctor, but for your own sake I think you should give a few moments of thought to whether you have something your should see a doctor/psychologist about.
Even if you have something, it might not be depression or ADHD, but it might be SOMETHING. Just trying to help here. If you're doing well in life then ignore this internet random and keep on killing it!

Who calculates stuns like that? The stun duration doesn't go up based on how many people you hit, that's stupid. You calculate cleaves like that because the damage is actually applied, individually, to each target hit. And it stacks as an equation when you're finding out the total damage. Stun duration on Shackleshot doesn't calculate like that.
