I had traditional locs for about 35 years and I loved them. The length retention, effortless styling and easy care! I did a big chop and now have new sisterlocs. I'm not as confident about these but but I'm willing to give it a try. This video helped
I’m sure your Sisterlocks are absolutely stunning! What made you want to chop your original set? I’m actually thinking about starting mine over too lol!
Hey there! I don't normally comment on youtube videos, but this one definitely deserves a comment. I have been considering getting locs since I went natural and microaggression is such a real issue that no one has mentioned in the videos that I've watched thus far. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention!
Great video. I am on month number 2 and I love my locs. I love the shake your head and go. My husband laughs at me when I'm ready to go with a big smile. I think I'm ready for all the questions/comments when I return to the office after the pandemic. Thanks for the heads up!
Love your channel as always! I am only a week into my sisterlocks journey but I LOVE the low maintenance already. Yes to freedom! I totally relate to the whole wash day blocking any spontaneous plans
Loved this! My locking session is at the end of the month and I cannot wait for that SL life even if I come out of the gates looking like Hellraiser. 😂 What you said about blowing off plans if your hair wasn't ready to go spoke to my soul. Freedom, here I come. I also appreciate all the positive things you mentioned but I was grateful you were vulnerable and shared the portion about micro-aggressions. I had been stuck on thinking about whether I might have to deal with discrimination if I left my company but never thought about ignorant questions from family or friends. Now that I've had some necessary hypothetical arguments in my head I'm ready to go, haha. Glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing these great thoughts and looking forward to more videos!
Yay!!! I am so excited for you! You will definitely love the freedom that comes with locs. I am glad I was able to help prepare you for reading people who may come for your locs LOL!
Hello! My name is Sasheen and I am a hair product junkie lol. I'm getting my locs installed this weekend. I cannot wait to get rid of all the products I have. Im looking forward to having my cabinet and closet space back and working on being a minimalist. Great video!!
Hi Sasheen! They really need product junkie rehabs LOL! I was right there with you! It feels good to declutter, but I will say my inner product does still try to jump out every now and then LOL! I am still spending a ton less money on products, which is so good for my pockets =)
Switching to locs really makes you a product minimalist, which I love. I only have 4 products: a leave in conditioner (LIC), oil, shampoo, and deep conditioner. I rarely use a deep conditioner. I water down my LIC by adding 8 oz of water to a quarter size amount of LIC. Takes me a year to go through one 8 oz bottle of LIC. Make sure you love the scent of a product b/c you will be married to it for awhile lol! I also water down my shampoo and DC the same way. You save SOOOO much money, not just space. It's so much easier. Went from hours of detangling and conditioning a week to spritzing and going every day.
God bless you sis for this informative honest video. I can relate to number 8. I've been natural since 2017 and it's completely changed my life in the sense that I filter about 99% of my choices on whether I'm having a good hair day or not. A really bad phase will keep me at home for weeks on end. I'm definitely considering locking my hair.
This makes me so happy! This is why I post videos! I am so glad it was helpful. I never think about my hair when making decisions any more. It is complete freedom =)
This was a great and informative video! I have sisterlocks and I didn't really think about doing my own reties before having them installed. I don't mind paying someone to do my hair. However, since this pandemic started I did it twice. I think whether someone is willing to self-maintain or not is definitely something to think about before getting locs, especially small locs.
Thank you so much for this video! I gonna finally take the plunge after probably a decade of contemplation! This video just further convince me to get them done! 😍
So your Locs are so beautiful. What i don’t understand is why i am just seeing you. RUclips should have been pushed you to my suggested. New subbie here so i am going to binge watch your videos!!!
That’s the first time I actually heard those comments about zendaya. I knew about it but I never actually heard it. How awful, disturbing, racist, and rude. Anyway I’ve been on my loc journey for 2 years now and the only regret I have is not starting them sooner. I listened to everyone else and not myself.
Your videos are truly a pleasure to watch. As a loc'd new youtuber I learned so much from this video and others I have watched. I really like the flow of the information in your videos and your humor.
I appreciate these opinions, something to think about. I have been on the fence with microlocs for years! I hate going to salons though and the thought of going to a loctician stresses me out. Then, the responsibility of having to re-tie every 6-8 weeks worries me and sounds daunting. But, I'm obsessed with the look and the idea of having those long and beautiful locs adorning my head. The length retention too, I want that. You actually loving to style your hair, I felt that. I do not know enjoy doing or styling my hair, I've always been a wash and go. Whew Chile, thank you for this video, it's really making me think. And yours look beautiful on you.💛🌱💛🍃
Thank you so much ! I’m glad it was helpful! Even with the frustrating aspects of having Sisterlocks/microlocs I still prefer them over my loose natural. I’m glad I gave you some things to think about. If you decide to loc please let me know 👍😊! I’ll be rooting for you along your journey!
Thank you very much for sharing this. Your skin has such a glow. I'm getting ready to get sisterlocks so your video helps a lot. I wanted to ask if you can share where you got your ponytail from?
I beg to differ on interlocking vs palm rolling, I've had them; sister locks, traditional etc. Palming rolling can break the hair off, cause receding hairline if done too often and too tight and cause product build up. I just comb mines out after close 3 years. I want braid locs but I can't find anyone in my area to install them, so I going to go with large SL. Great video!
I am 2 months locd and you are so right. The freedom is life changing and I did not know it would be like this. I hope to experience length retention but if I don’t I’m still happy with my micro locs. Still debating on whether I want to keep interlocking or palm roll.
I came across this video today and wanted to add an update. In a week I will be 2 years and 2 months loc’d! Yay!! I have not lost any locs but then I started with only 212. A few are chunky almost 1/2 inch in diameter and a few are much smaller. I regret having combined 4 of my locs at 3 months into my journey. I was doing too much. This video stands the test of time for me. I do not palm roll my locs. It has been 4 and a half months since I last retightened my locs. I separate them daily by running my fingers through my locs. If I find frizz at the roots from new growth I wrap the frizz around the loc. If strands from one loc are entangled in another, I find the correct loc and gently pull the strands from the wrong loc. I then wrap the strands around the right loc. I have a mixture of 4 C and 4 B hair. Before locs I thought it was all 4C except a little on the crown. There’s more 4 B on the top of my head than I previously knew. It takes longer to loc . But I am finding that some of my locs are locking up and now I don’t want to interlock and destroy the integrity of these locs. I believe this maintenance will keep me from getting thinning locs in years to come. As you said what you do now affects your locs in the future. I hope you are still loving your locs.❤
Oh and yes....i wish i wouldve known about the many tiny white follicles that sit on top of my locs no matter how often they are washed and soaked with acv..they wont leave😒. I wish i knew how full my locs wouldve looked with 465 locs cuz i wouldve went with trad small locs. My hair is considered thin but full. I wish i could dye my locs im 1.5 yrs in-without the SL community and my locitician putting fear in me and i wish someone told me if ur hair already eats up moisture..it would be worse with locs cuz a dab of oil here and there aint getting it. Soooo u see...it sounds like im ready to cut em off😂😂😂
They should not be inflating their prices. My loctitian does not do this. That is crazy... Imma newbie to the family. They should listen to you too about what's going on with your hair too. I'm learning that we need to eat well, drink plenty of water n take vitamins. I'm loving my sistalocs they are nice n neat. Looking forward to more body n length. But thanks for vide We need to research enough info when we deciding. Love RUclips but everyones hair is different n everyone's journey is different. Sorry to hear someone said that to u. People are just rude. We need to be confident in who we are especially with locs of any kind. But so true on the employment level. But that's pure ignorance how people talk to us period. Thanks for video food for thought. Xx
Thank you so much! I could write a novel with all the reasons I wish my locs were just a little bit bigger, but I’ll give you the too three so you don’t have to read a long dissertation lol. 1. My locs would be easier to manage. 2. I got small locs because I was terrified that my hair wouldn’t look full enough for my liking if I went smaller. Now I’m pretty sure my locs would’ve still been full if I went a tad bit larger. 3. My locs are so small in pictures they often times don’t read as locs.
Please share why you would've gone larger if you could rewind time .. would you have done a Microlock or small traditional lock .. Please help me learn more about this. I Thank You for the education...
Thank you =) I can't with the disrespect! Karen was dead wrong when it came to what she said about the good Sis Zendaya. Thank you for commenting! I appreciate the support.
"U may be an expert on locs"..but ive had this hair for 47yrs"..ive had to tell.mine that when she insisted my scalp was fine...noooooo its always had a thinnimg problem and u are retightening it tooo often and too tight

I’m sure your Sisterlocks are absolutely stunning! What made you want to chop your original set? I’m actually thinking about starting mine over too lol!
It was a spontaneous, spur of the moment decision that I regretted for a long time. Friends and family were in shock! I'm good now though.
Hey there! I don't normally comment on youtube videos, but this one definitely deserves a comment. You got this!!! Rock your beautiful locs with pride Sis =)
Love your channel as always! I am only a week into my sisterlocks journey but I LOVE the low maintenance already. Yes to freedom! I totally relate to the whole wash day blocking any spontaneous plans
Yes! Wash day used to be a whole event

Thanks for sharing…! Never thought about the conditioning part. Not locked but def considering.

You are making so many great points that aren’t mentioned often
Thank you !!! I was hoping that this video would make people think about some things, so they could make a fully informed decision.
Yes! Definitely insightful.
God bless you sis for this informative honest video. I can relate to number 8. the imperfection of locs is the beauty of it
I am loc-ing as soon as I find someone near me. Every point you raised was excellent and resonant with me. You are greatly appreciated.
I'm right there with you! When I initially got locs, I was dead set on NEVER maintaining my own sisterlocks, then life happened :(
Thank you so much for this video! I gonna finally take the plunge after probably a decade of contemplation! This video just further convince me to get them done! 😍
You can do it!!! Go for it ! Growing locs is such a fun experience.
So your Locs are so beautiful. What i don’t understand is why i am just seeing you. RUclips should have been pushed you to my suggested. New subbie here so i am going to binge watch your videos!!!
Loc'd Biker thank you so much! I’m wearing loc extensions in this video. Thank so much for your support Sis! I’m glad you liked the video (:

Anyway I’ve been on my loc journey for 2 years now and the only regret I have is not starting them sooner. I listened to everyone else and not myself.
What they said about her was so disgusting. It's astonishing to me that some people are still so ignorant.
I'm getting my locs put in in a few days! I'm so excited. Thank you for the great information. You're so gorgeous 😍😍
Sapphire Star Thank you! I’m so excited for you (: !!! Good luck on your journey.
Your videos are truly a pleasure to watch. As a loc'd new youtuber I learned so much from this video and others I have watched. I really like the flow of the information in your videos and your humor.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your feedback as another RUclipsr!
Thank you so much for this! I'm preparing myself for my own loc journey.
You’re so welcome! Good luck on your journey 😊💕.

Yupppp. We are experts in our own hairrrrrr!♡Yessssss and always!
Thank you very much for sharing this. Your skin has such a glow. I'm getting ready to get sisterlocks so your video helps a lot. I wanted to ask if you can share where you got your ponytail from?
Thank you so much!!! I made the ponytail. The extensions were from amazon =)
Really good video!! Some of these I haven't thought of.
Thank you so much! was hoping to give people some ideas, in case they are getting bored with their locs.

I get that question from a lot of older people “when are you taking out your hair”
Same lol. It frustrates me lol
I feel like it will make life easier. I'm in med school and the more I do I think to myself "I'm not about to fluff the puff before an emergency" 😂
I am 2 months locd and you are so right. The freedom is life changing and I did not know it would be like this. I hope to experience length retention but if I don’t I’m still happy with my micro locs. Still debating on whether I want to keep interlocking or palm roll.

I want my locks to look like yours ☹️
Please share why you would've gone larger if you could rewind time .. would you have done a Microlock or small traditional lock ..
Please help me learn more about this. I Thank You for the education...
You are so welcome! I am not sure what I would personally love to have 250-275 locs for less maintenance.
Whew chile the disrespect 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️ your beautiful.
Thank you =) I can't with the disrespect! Karen was dead wrong when it came to what she said about the good Sis Zendaya.
Thank you for commenting! I appreciate the support.
Don't forget to mention about traction alopecia. Im taking mine out before I literally have nothing left.
I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced that. I know that has to be a very frustrating experience.
What is traction alopecia?
"U may be an expert on locs"..but ive had this hair for 47yrs"..ive had to tell.mine that when she insisted my scalp was fine...noooooo its always had a thinnimg problem and u are retightening it tooo often and too tight
Great vid!
I can't believe that women said that about that young lady's locks on her TV show. That really irritated me.
It was so disrespectful !
I’m in Virginia and i do retwist for $30
Thx for sharing
Thanks for watching!
❤️
Good video
Thank you Brandy! I appreciate your sports😊
