Alfredo is an old friend from the 80s and played at my wedding in 1986; such a privilege. Besides being a world-class musician, he and his wife are are down-to-earth warm and approachable people.

Thank you Jeffrey Stillwell for creating this condensed documentary about the ARPA PARAGUAYA (Paraguayan Harp). Even though I noticed a few brief moments showing harps from other Latin American countries (I noticed a harp from Mexico and also a "llanera" style harp from Venezuela or Colombia), you shared correct information. Of course naming all important harpists from Paraguay would be a very long list since there are thousands of players and many, many great virtuosos, like Luis Bordón, Nicolás Caballero and many others, but you shared a video of the most important of them all, Felix Pérez Cardozo. By the way the romantic music style created by José Asunción Flores is the "guarania", name inspired by the name of the guaraní indigenous people of Paraguay. The word guaraní is also used for the indigenous language, but the romantic music style is the "guarania" (with accented second syllable). Thank you.

Hey thanks! I am a paraguayan, I fill my heart with love and gratitude for making a video about our harp. We are very few who still love our music, thanks.
    I love your channel.

Thank you for this video, man. Loved the insight into this beautiful, and unique, musical tradition. That Alfredo Otiz is one heck of a player. I'll be listening to him the next time I light up...

Very interesting video. I live kinda close to Paraguay (southern Brasil) but didn't know that much about the Arpa Paraguaya culture. Also, there are a load of rhythms, dances and music genres from the border area between Brasil, Argentina and Paraguay that are not that recognized out of this part and also could appear as a subject of essay (Bugio, Chamamé, Guarânia, Vanera, etc.).

Those Paraguayan artisans remind me very much of the lute-makers from Cremona, Italy, where the famous Stradivaris are made. My country has been making the best violins in the world for centuries, but alas, it's a dying art, and fewer and fewer people undertake the necessary training to become a "mastro liutaio", a master lute-makers.

Very interesting video. One note, though: Paraguay wasn't just a victim of its neighbours' imperialistic ambition; it also had imperialistic/expansionist ambitions of its own. The leader that led them into war fashioned himself as the Latin American Napoleon.

Thank YOU for watching! It's not a very exciting story - I found Arpa Paraguaya through the work of Alfredo Rolando Ortiz - one of my closest friends who was my roommate at the time had his entire discography on his iTunes, so one day I just clicked on it randomly to see what it could possibly be. Fell in love immediately. That friend of mine, Neil, actually showed me a ton of cool, amazing stuff, like filmmaker Sergei Parajanov. Now he plays in the band Naomi Punk 🤙🤙🤙
