Unnatural...Except for the performer, who needs a few seconds to refocus...

Why "unnatural"? Who is to decide what is natural and what isn't? You are listening to this performance on RUclips. Rameau himself would probably call that unnatural as well.

​@@j.vonhogen9650it is a bit strange and I'm sure he heard a plethora of performances which don't do that. Me personally, the performance is insane. But respect everyone's preference of interpretation

Vous avez raison. Cela relache le fil de la tension dramatique. Toutefois, je me demande si ces silences n'ont pas été rajoutés au montage tant ils me semblent excessifs, ne serait-ce que pour que cela atténue les écarts de prise de son entre les différents doubles ( qui ne sont pas issus de la même prise).

Absolutely edition problems. You hear the resonance of the instrument trailing into the next double.
