In this tutorial, we'll see how to transform an image into an Awesome Smoke Photo Effect using Adobe Photoshop. The main trick to this effect is to find a good combination with the smoke brushes and the image we'll be using.

For those of you who can't liquify the layer, make sure to have the "liquify" layer visible, select the layer and then go to the "filter" tab.

If you're having trouble freezing the mask, make sure once you click on liquify filter on the right side you have the Advanced Mode checked. Then from there you freeze mask option will appear.

If you are having problems getting the Liquefy filter to run, go to your Preferences and check under Performance and see if "Use Graphics Processor" is checked. That may be the issue.

Hello! I love your tutorial so much! I use the cc version. I followed your steps until to change the density of the layer1's mask. When I double click the mask, it pops out a window without any choice of "density". I can only justify "transparency" to 70%. Then I either can't use the brush preset or can't see through the profile head. So sad... Why when I double click the mask, it shows differently? Where can I find the "density" then? Thank you very much!
Yes, in Photoshop new version just make the "Layer Mask" active and open the Properties; (if you didn't find properties go to: Windows and click Properties)

Quick Q, LetsGet: Why do you create a blank file/canvas at the very beginning instead of directly opening your photo? I see the result is exactly the same, no? The background layer is your photo. Curious and puzzled, Leo Penalosa
