    for those who are clueless at 5:14..just right click > select inverse > alt+backspace or alt+backspace depends on your foreground colour..I dont know the easiest method and hope someone will teach us soon and I think this will helps =)

    people having the 5:14 problem in video. CTR+SHFT+I= Invert/ ALT+BACKSPACE= Fill Black.....Also he doesnt say that you should start with white background shown on the copy of (red) channel so make sure the copy is selected.

    Nice tutorial. You can also change the brush's 'spacing' so the smoke is not so dense...

      Nemanja Sekulic how do you make the background black at 5:14 ik how alt backspace and i but instead of doing that it blacks out the cloud not the white background

      this comment was 4 months ago but if anyone else has a similar problem, you have the cloud selected, if you press ctrl+shift+i it will select inverse, so everything but the cloud, then fill it with black

    Would really appreciate it if there were hard subtitles on the screen each time you use a shortcut. I'm having to repeat and repeat the video trying to hear what the shortcut is! Otherwise, thanks for the content.

      I Have the same question! When i press Alt + Backspace its turn the area in black no the outside!
      Edit' press Shift+f7, u need to press Shift+f7 after Alt+backspace

    at 5:13 how did you invert the selection and fill the background in with black? Trying to follow along but I am stuck at this part.

      To invert the selection press shift+ctrl+I
      To fill with the background or foreground ctrl or alt + backspace. Hope it helps.

    on 5:14 it fills the whole page black including the cloud, anyone know how to help?

    anyways: very well done!
    for the brush you hardly need the cloud in transparent mode, black-and-white should be sufficient. in the end, it's a mask with white (fully transparent) and black (opaque). i haven't tried it, so tell me, if it makes a difference. for more depth you could probably use 16 bits for the brush-mask, but also not sure about this.
    to speed things up, you could also copy paste the red channel directly into rgb. but it's of course more obvious for demonstration purposes.
    another tip you surely know about is to command-click (mac) on a partly transparent layer, so everything that is less than 100% transparent gets selected. immediately press c for the crop-tool and you automatically get the optimal crop-box.

    how did u erase the smoke at 1:30? ive been trying to use so many different methods but im stuck . u should put the shortcut keys u use in your vids it would be a lot less confusing. NVRMND i figured it out . great video by the way

    It's strange
    Yesterday I tried this in photoshop 2020 but the 'Brush Mode' (disolve in this case) doesn't affect the appearance of my brush strokes anymore
    I remember using this second method of yours in the past

      .. for some reason I'm not able to get that cloud selected properly from the red channel copy [select RGB > Alt channel copy] .. gess I have to check on some more tuts. by you about that .. :)

      Peggy Digital Art if you want to load selection from a channel you need to hold ctrl and then click on a channel

    Hey ! I am having a problem with copying the cloud from the red copy in the channel effect to the layers panel. Are the command key CTRL COMMAND CLICK (on the red copy) and then CTLR COMMAND J (in the layers panel)? It is not working for me. Anybody can help me out with this ? Thanks a lot

      If you're using a PC just do a CTRL + CLICK and then go back in the layers panel and do CTRL + V, hope that works.
