  • This is a short vlog about my late 80s Maruishi SR5000 I bought for an absolute bargain. I go into detail about the price I paid for it, the condition of the bike and using the second hand bike market as a indicator for consumer spending health. Stay tuned for more videos!

Just bought a nearly like new Specialized Allez 2020 for $250. Size 56. Red/White. My first road bike besides hybrids.

A lot of people bought bikes, VERY expensive bikes, very nice bikes, and now realize they don't like riding.
I bought a 2019 Norco Ryde dirt jumper, not in new condition but used, for just $300. And the guy was very chill, says I rarely rode it, and I've been riding the hell out of it every weekend. People are slowly upping their prices though in my area, a lot of full suspnesion bikes are being listed for almost 100% retail, and then slashed down, because why would I buy a bike USED for retail, when i can get it new?

The bike clearly is more worth than $20 - but maybe the seller just wanted to get rid of it, or it was inherited, something like that.
It's a nice find, though and there is potential for upgrades. Widen the rear stays and you can fit in a wheel with a 130mm hub. Install modern brifters and maybe another handlebar. Replace the saddle with something more comfortable and you have a good and stylish bike.

What really amazed me about this purchase was the fact that it sat on OfferUp for 3 weeks at $35 before I bought it. No one was showing interest in the bike. The guy I bought it from ended up being someone who used to ride a few years ago.
On some of these late 80s frames, cold setting the rear dropouts might not be necessary, especially as we move into the late 80s/early 90s. I have thought about a new wheelset that would be a little sturdier than the one it currently has. Thanks for watching!
