    Your Gitane appears to be pretty stock to me. Due to the component shortage in the early 70s Gitane had to source Sugino cranksets. The TDF model was one step down from their Pro model that utilized the same frameset, but was equipped with Campagnoo Nouvo Record components. Why wouldn't you take that bike on a long ride? It is certainly capable of the task provided you tune it up and and install fresh tires. As far as the standards are concerned these are French standards. Campagnolo produced. English, French, Italian and Swiss bottom brackets and headsets, seatposts were never standardized at 27.2 mm. Diameter was determined by the manufacturer and tubing selection. The chrome looks to be in very good condition should you choose to polish it be gentle as you don't want to rub it off. Good luck with your bike and go take in on a long ride!

    That is a nice bike, but it's not a race bike. Those would have had tubular tires (always called sew-ups then in the midwest). Another 531 sticker on the fork would indicate that the forks and stays were also double butted 531. Most of the clinchers were 27" at pressures around 70 psi. Higher pressure clincher tires and rims came a little later, and were used in racing. It's interesting we've returned to lower pressures today. 700c clinchers were desirable because they allowed swapping with sew-up wheels without readjusting brakes except for width. I couldn't see too well as the camera moved around, but the down tube shifters look like Suntour to me. On my bike I bought in the early '70s, I took off Campagnolo shifters to replace them with Suntour. They were not cool, but worked better for friction shifting than anything else. I had the exact same white Silca pump, that yellowed over the decades. Of the French bikes in the US then, Peugeot were most common, but Gitane, Lejune, Motobecane and a few others were around.

      This bike has a Reynolds 531fork. The sticker is placed on the left side of the fork. The sticker that is visible in the video is an outline of France with two arrows on either side and Tour De France written above. As far as the wheels are concerned are you sure those are not Magic tubular rims?

    The bike clearly is more worth than $20 - but maybe the seller just wanted to get rid of it, or it was inherited, something like that. It's a nice find, though and there is potential for upgrades. Widen the rear stays and you can fit in a wheel with a 130mm hub. Install modern brifters and maybe another handlebar. Replace the saddle with something more comfortable and you have a good and stylish bike.

      What really amazed me about this purchase was the fact that it sat on OfferUp for 3 weeks at $35 before I bought it. No one was showing interest in the bike. The guy I bought it from ended up being someone who used to ride a few years ago. On some of these late 80s frames, cold setting the rear dropouts might not be necessary, especially as we move into the late 80s/early 90s. I have thought about a new wheelset that would be a little sturdier than the one it currently has. Thanks for watching!

    A lot of people bought bikes, VERY expensive bikes, very nice bikes, and now realize they don't like riding. I bought a 2019 Norco Ryde dirt jumper, not in new condition but used, for just $300. And the guy was very chill, says I rarely rode it, and I've been riding the hell out of it every weekend. People are slowly upping their prices though in my area, a lot of full suspnesion bikes are being listed for almost 100% retail, and then slashed down, because why would I buy a bike USED for retail, when i can get it new?

    I’m 31 and grew up skating 7.5-7.75” decks, transitioned to 8” and that’s still my go to size for the most part. But as of the last couple years I started skating 9”+ decks and they’re a lot of fun, especially if you throw rails on it for board/hurricane combos, the fat edge you get for that trick is unbeatable. Also wheelbase plays a hugeeee factor in function compared to the width of them.

I rode an 8.38 at first, tried an 8" second and now I am at 8.5, feels good, middle of the road pretty much, my wheels as well, 54mm. my shoes are size 12 and the 8" felt too narrow and it was also too short for me, so I only skated it around 2 weeks and then gifted it to another beginner.

    • @johnnyguzman3429
      @johnnyguzman3429 2 года назад

      That's part of my "big boy" setup. I'm usually riding 58-60mm wheels on these boards, so the riser pads help with wheel bite and being over 190 lbs at the moment, also with stress cracks on the board. Landings are also softer with the riser pads as they sort of act as an extra shock absorber when going off anything over a foot tall.

    • @hatesalex
      @hatesalex 3 года назад

      @@johnnyguzman3429 definitely not, the 9 inch makes it harder to flip bc its a bigger heavy board . having a smaller deck like 7.75 is lighter and easier to pop and flip. big boards are better for trans or vert.

Any bike that has holes for installing mudguards or fenders, road bike or mountain bike, would be a good choice. There is a potential to be faster on a road bike, but from a durability/maintenance aspect the mountain bike wins.

    I sometimes use the Master Lock 8122D combination cable lock, which is light and easy to transport. I only use it when I park the bike for a short period of time, and the bike will always be in my line of sight. I have found the lightest and most convenient cable locks are the ones that include a combination lock, which is permanently attached to one end of the cable, and the cable will self coil, so the lock doesn't take up much room. However, cable locks offer the lowest security, so you need to be careful when using them.
