Don't forget The Food of the Gods, with it's swarm of giant rats, bunnies, wasps, etc. My parents took me to see this in a drive in from their 1977 Pinto. Scared the hell out of me!
That story was boring. HGWells is the sh t but that story is a bore. A giant Princess and a scientists giant kid end up living happily ever after in a strip mine.
Jaws, Cujo, Piranha scared me the most as a child. I also saw this cheap movie about ten years ago with some fish it in that was just shockingly gory. Can't remember if it was sharks or piranhas. People were getting eaten. Gnawed to bits, bitten in half. Guts were hanging out. It was a total blood bath with realistic special effects. Not a good movie for plot or acting, but it literally made me wish I hadn't seen it. Once you see certain things you can never un-see them. Unsettling. Thanks for the show, guys!
My list: Jaws, Cujo, The Birds, Them!, Orca, Anaconda, Piranha, The Swarm, Grizzly, The Ghost And The Darkness, and of course, Monty Python and The Holy Grail!
Yes, "Alligator"!!! And yes, I first saw it on W-ABC channel 7 in NYC. I saw the premiere showing of it with my whole family on a Saturday night. All the kids in the neighborhood talked about it at school the following Monday at school.
I worked in a movie theater in high school from 79-81. We played Alligator and back then movies stuck around if successful. We had Alligator for about a month. So much fun to know when the scares are and to watch the audience
This was fantastic! I always look forward to another episode of THE MONSTER'S DEN. I have not seen any of these movies - and with the encouragement of Pete, Chris, and Rich - I need to find them and watch!
Hey guys, thanks for another great episode! I thought I would mention the made for television version of Piranha from 1995, starring a young Mila Kunis. When I finally watched this version a few (or five) years ago, I remember thinking, "This little girl is the only person that can act in this whole movie!" and then I checked out the credits, to discover that she was a young, pre That 70s Show Mila Kunis.
Everybody has to "go" somehow. At the very end of my bucket list you'll find "be viciously attacked, torn to shreds and eaten by a huge great white shark"... livin' the dream, baby!
The Trio are back for another round in the Monster's Den and what a great topic and selections. I share Chris's fear of being eaten alive and so Jaws remains probably the top of this type of movie for me. All these years later, I still am looking side to side and everywhere when going into the ocean at a beach - always looking for that fin. Plus there's the time I came around a corner in the Virgin Islands and came up on a BAS [big ass shark] and learned I could swim backwards - a tale for another time. Familiar with Pete's choices but Rich and Chris' were not familiar to me so I'll be tracking those down for viewing. Already found Roar for a quick viewing. Would love the three of you to do a sequel or part 2 to these series. Thanks, Chris, Pete and Rich for a great time.
It is absolutely criminal that "Alligator" still has not received a blu-ray release yet. Such a great movie! I watched a double feature of "Killer Crocodile" and "Killer Crocodile 2" this past weekend. Can't beat Italian creature feature cheese.
Tobe Hooper's Crocodile (2000) has its moments, its sequel Crocodile 2 (2002) I think is the better film. Spiders (2000) and Spiders 2 (2001) are fun too.
Chris’s explanation of the movie Roar was a hoot! I have never heard of it but have just ordered the disc on Amazon. Can’t wait to see it now. This was a particularly great show. Please do more “When Animals Attack” shows!
Jaws, Rogue, the bear attack scene in The Revenant...these are some of the best. Open Water, The Shallows, The Reef, Deep Blue Sea, Crawl...all pretty good. I have a huge phobia for snakes, so those are some movies I have a tough time with.
My picks are The Food of the Gods (1976), Squirm (1976), Day of the Animals (1977), Frogs (1972), Sssssss (1973), Cujo (1983), Graveyard Shift (1990) and the last story in Creepshow entitled "They're Creeping Up On You" (1982).
Love those. I mentioned a few of those in my comment here.. Glad you mentioned the cockroach attack in Creepshow! Remember the scene from Damnation Alley? I remember all of those and Kingdom of the Spiders, Swarm, Orca to name a few others. Thoughts on those?
A few people have already mentioned Squirm and Ssssss, so I’ll add my other favorite “S” movie from the 70s: Stanley. It’s about a guy who lives in a cabin in the Everglades with his pet rattlesnake.
Another great episode of the Monsters Den. Some really good and interesting picks from you guys, As for my two, I go for "Day Of the Animals" (1977) which I saw as the second part of a double bill with "The Car" (1977) and the man eating worms of "Squirm" (1976), which I first saw on a 20 minute Super 8 film edition. A couple of honourable mentions for me would be "Slugs" (1988) from Jaun Piquer Simon of "Pieces" (1982) fame and "Phase IV" (1974),where desert ants form a collective intelligence and attack some nearby scientists.
- highly recommend - Long Weekend - 1978 Australian production, very atmospheric, creepy story about a married couples camping trip that goes horrifically awry! In this man vs.nature themed film, Mother Nature herself exacts revenge! Cheers guys.
A little side note about Cujo, he made a brief appearance in Cat's Eye which came out the year after Cujo. You see him in the city still rabid and he's chasing the cat through the streets who ends up being in all 3 stories of the movie. Also the son in Cujo who is stuck in the car is the same actor who played on Who's The Boss for all those years.
Wait, Chris is 50!? How is that possible? He looks about late 30s! Anyway, great episode guys, I never realised just how many horror films I haven't gotten around to seeing after watching the Monster's Den. No doubt that Alligator served as inspiration for the giant alligator in Resident Evil 2, which resides in the sewers beneath Raccoon City. Keep up the great work Pete and co! :)
@@chrisalo2989 I can't tell if the Blu-Ray that's floating around out there is legit either. What confuses me the most about Roar is that nothing got them to say "You know what? This was a bad idea. Let's scrap this entirely." I have a feeling if someone tried to make that movie today, one incident would've shut the whole thing down - if not out of guilt, then because of a lawsuit.

Just read Roger Ebert’s 1-star Alligator review by coincidence since it was his choice for worst movie of the week on Siskel & Ebert Its final sentence is pretty funny even if you disagree with him: „Why not try flushing this movie down the toilet to see if it also grows into something big and fearsome?“.
I really enjoyed this and would love a Part 2! I was waiting for Chris Alo to mention the insane Italian cult classic, and my favorite of this genre, "Wild Beasts!" Escaped zoo animals go on a rampage! There is a backstory in the plot, as to what causes the animals to go wild, but it hardly even matters! :-) severin-films.com/shop/wild-beasts-bluray/

Razorback (1984). Nightwing (1979). The Pack (1977).
Grizzly! Was great
You should do a crossover where you talk about horror movies with great rock or prog soundtracks ( like Goblin scores)
Love Alligator!
Alligator! Yesss!!!
I was thinking Orca or Moby Dick
The Power Trio Attacks!
I ALMOST did Wild Beasts! Totally insane!!! Maybe for part 2!
@@chrisalo2989 Thanks for the reply! Your thoughts on movies are always great to hear!
@@christianman73 thank you!!
Creepshows The Crate is a great one.
I would love to see Pete & Chris (Rich if he is into these kind of things 😜) do a series for Xploitation (Black/Nun/Nazi/Oz) flicks.
I am a HUGE fan of 70's exploitation movies!
