A classic written by Tom T. Hall.
Keeping real country alive
I have never been to Memphis and I miss it already.
Memphis is a hell hole
Q
You'll miss anywhere else when you get there
No you don’t
You misunderstand the song.. Memphis is where ever you are drawn to and need to go.
Ol Slim, God rest his soul. He was a mess but a joy to hang out with.
Charley Crockett, Tom T Hall, James Hand... absolute legends, each in their own right
This guy is exactly what country music needs! Would be grand to turn on country music radio and hear Charley
I don't even like what they call country these days, its pop music with cowboy hats that never met the sweat of a brow, this is country
It'll never happen.... he's too much country.
The problem is country music radio plays trash these days. That’s why I just plug in my phone and play Charley Crockett, Randall King, etc. Can’t stand what country radio had become
one day i'd love to host my own radio station and play classic country and newer stuff like this that has that old sound
@@14gears55 check the songs slim the guy in the clip does himself
😢I miss you my grandpa
I hate to say it, but without satellite radio, guys like Charley wouldn't get airplay at all on commercial radio. It's a real shame that we have to pay for great music when we used to get it all for free. Outlaw Country!!!
This is one of the saddest old school country songs that it's hard not to feel the pain
I feel the same way about Fool Somebody Else by Charley Crockett
R.I.P. James Hand "The real deal."
RIP James Hand
He died?
RIP James 'Slim' Hand 😢
Another classic song by Charley Crockett. I love how he pays tribute to the legends that came before with his own style.
Oh shit... that's James Hand...
This is probably the best cover of this song I've ever heard. Fantastic
I recommend you a Spanish version called asi llegue a granada, by Hermanos Cubero
Can’t wait to see him in Memphis this weekend 😍🔥
I love when my city gets portrayed in a positive light instead of all the bad that does happen here. Memphis truly is a special place.
I'm a Delaney from down in the Delta..I grew on this music and style is Dwight... Charlie Pride..on old school country..but his eclectic style on all genre's he plays make him the BOMB..!!
Amen.
R.I.P, Mr. Hand.
James, James, James, we miss you so so much. Thank you Charlie for keeping his music alive.
James Hand with the Band
Rest In Peace
RIP James Hand! Thank you Charlie for introducing me to such a legend!
What a shame we'll never get to hear James and Charlie perform together!
@@svdd10 lots of those. Colter wall and Cash, Sturgill simpson and waylon, etc
@@wh8378 very well said!
Lord knows how many times the great James Hand had to play for a near empty room of drunk people for a hundred bucks just like it's depicted in this video.
I love this, but as a long time and good friend of James Hand, this breaks my heart.
@@wh8378 one of the best ...really do miss him. I have all of his cd's and when it hits me that he's gone I will get in my car drive around the country of West, Tokio and Leroy and play his cd's..bawling like a baby...sigh****
This song makes me want to sit in a dingy bar and drink beer from a cold bottle on a Wednesday morning.
You said it, Urethra!
@Amed Tajan driving music...windows down thru the desert just driving
Fuck it let’s go
I still like Whitey Morgan's version better.
Can't say you drank all day if you don't start early
RIP James Hand!
Tom T Hall would approve.
Original music and lyrics by, Tom. T. Hall. It's worth a listen.
Well worth.
Working out in Florida. Due to this corona situation, haven't been able to see my wife and 3 month old for 2 months. Took off and got on three connecting flights to make it back to Memphis to get them and bring them here. Hell of a haul but I finally made it back and heard this song. Perfect. Thank you for this song.
@@MrVal024 all the best to you and your family
I'm sure they were happy to see you. God bless
And I was feeling bad because I’m stuck with work for a few weeks in OK and hoping to back it back to the other higher elevation side of TN to see my wife and three month old.
Remarkable version you can feel it kudos
This cover just elevates this song. Even though he's from Texas, his time in Louisiana helps him sing to the spirit of the Deep South like mostly only blues men can...
Hey Charley Crockett... Thank you for representing an ecclectic sound of classic East Texas - Louisiana Folk/Blues/Jazz/Gospel/Soul/Zeideco. Thank you for dedicating yourself to the true art of music.
I like your profile pic
Rip Slim Love you bud
Thank you Charlie Crockett for honoring a great talent such as James Hand. I saw him at a small honky tonk in San Antonio and as Willie Nelson said "He was the real deal". Glad I bought one of his cd's!
Tom T would be proud you did his song justice !!! Thanks for keeping the soul in music !!!!!’
Hell yess!!
Rest in Peace Mr James Hand.
Man Charley Crockett is just what I wanted to hear, old school country sound. Love his music.
Huge Tom T fan, huge Crockett fan. Both of them make country COUNTRY.
I’ve been living for about 20 years now and came for the love of my family and music and haven’t left because it’s a great little city. This song will be in my head for years to come.
Lordy lord . OLD T is back in town
I dunno how this video does not have millions of views. Certainly deserves it. James Hand!
An old voice for new country!
Video is so sad cause now we've lost James Hand. We had a phenomenon and nobody much cared. It's a danm tragedy RIP James Hand. I'm never gonna stop trying to get you to become the Mega star that you've always deserved to be.
C.C.,Thank you for your kind words and praise for Slim. He left our world way too early. I am glad he called me "Pal" for 52 years. Respectfully yours, Denver
Mix of a new voice with old school country. Man I love this!!!
that's James Hand!!!!!!
RIP Slim
One of my all time favorites and Charlie kills it!
Rest In Peace the the man I grew up listening to in the bars in west, Texas god bless that man I can still hear him playing in ol mynars or wolfs god gained a great one. RIP Slim
Man, I've been on a binge with your music out at this apartment. I get drunk and let everyone else enjoy the hell outta it too haha. Thank you sir!

R.I.P. James Hand.
Holy shit how is this guy not every where!? ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Lived there for 10 years. Loved it and miss it.

@@gregnormal5101 good quetion
Beautiful pedal steel guitar on this song.
Damn boy this needs to be on country radio now.Your are what country radio is missing. You my friend are a legend in my mind.God Bless you and your music.I cant get enough give this dude some likes so he can be discovered. We need you on the big stage boss.
Seth Jenkins they rather have stupid ass rap crap that sounds the same that focuses on Disney teen kids and women in college thinking sex and drinking is good thing
RIP Mr. Hand
My husband and I really enjoyed your show at the Kessler. It was a joy to have the honor or hear Mr. Hand and yourself. What a great time!
Hello! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe.
I wonder what song slim was playing to in the clip.
Rest easy Tom. I'm sure there's faster horses, younger women, and older whiskey where you're at.
There is something In his voice that truly moves me.
There’s something in that slide guitar that resonates in my heart.
It's one of the best in a while I agree
Stay out of Memphis Charley and get on to Texas Ol Son. God bless
Well I was born in Memphis Tn an still live here
James Hand! Hell yeah
Excellent version of my favorite Tom T. Hall song. Thank you Charley!
RIP Tom T. Hall. Charley does a great job as usual.
I like Oliver Anthony, something good came out of Appalachia but I am still listening to Charley Crockett.
How does my man sound like Dwight Yoakam AND Charlie Pride at the same damn time?!
That’s excellent.I hear it now!!!
Pure talent
This guy is a legend in the making
What a song.. talk about cool as heck
RIP to the great James Hand
I just love this song
Charley Crockett is a soul man through and through
In memory of the late great Tom T. Hall,,thanks Charley for the memories

Rip James Hand
I'm a Memphian. Wish I could see my hometown thru these eyes.
Great song and Video RIP Mr. Hand
I used to haul milk to a processing plant that was in the slums of Memphis. Right next to the Blue Monkey Bar and Grill.🤣🤣
I'm being exposed to all these great artists I would've never heard of if not for you Charley! Just wanted to say thank you for your music, I'm sharing you with everyone who'll listen here in L.A. Hopefully you'll do a show around here soon enough, it sure would be a treat to be able to support & see you live. Keep it up man, you're broadening the musical horizon of many a young man, more than you know. Thanks bud.
Charley Crockett is awesome! This kind of soulful music is what we’ve been needing. Charley Crockett is bing worthy
James Hand!!
Good stuff. God Bless Mr. Hand it was good to see him.
I think drinking beer and listen. This song is the best.
RIP slim
Seems like you can actually hear some of the heartbreak in his voice. I believe this man lived through a trial or two in his life....GREAT rendition.
Ole recording trick. Tie an onion right below the microphone.
Wow, Charley sure knows how to pick them! This song was written by legendary songwriter Tom T. Hall in 1969 and I believe this is the best cover of it --- hands down. Great job Charley! By the way, for those of you who aren't familiar with the songs of Tom T. Hall, check out his greatest hits, or whatever. The man has written some very good songs.
Seriously? Advice about Tom T Hall? Pffft.
Damn right
@@jamesnobles727 Cool!
@@TheVeek192 What in hell is wrong with me promoting Tom T Hall for the people who aren't aware of him??? Do you honestly think the whole fucking world knows who Tom T Hall is?? You come across as a fool. Don't be a fool.
Steve Douglas I’ve never heard of him and I’ve been a country music fan for over 20 years
I'd never heard of Charley Crockett before tonight. I just happened to come across his 'Lesson in Depression' and decided to watch another. I was pleasantly surprised when I immediately recognized James Hand in this video and heartbroken to read of his passing. It's a strange feeling. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Charley Crockett has to offer while mourning the loss of Slim.
That's that damn sound right there!
XM radio, channel 60, Outlaw country,. You can hear Charlie Crockett and many other artists that you don't hear on regular FM radio stations. Check it out.
i'd give this at least 1 million more likes
This man is from the valley and is arguably one of the most underrated Texas country music artists. Keep on singing brother
Great Song-well done. Reminds me of old 1960s country tunes you would hear on the Radio back in the Day 🇺🇸
A dynamic blend of Americana's sound; with an understanding of the common man's voice~in this gifted singer/songwriter. Enjoying his spin on traditional music in 2022! :)

If Dwight and Hank Sr. had a baby...Charley Crockett!!!! I love it!!!
You funny. Love ya.
Makes me yearn for a place I’ve never been
For example, my across the street neighbour’s daughter 12 years ago was named Memphis. Having never been to the place of the name, this one is funny that way too, but still really great.
Damn!!! Real country music at last!! Keep it coming Charley!!! You're the man!!! Tom T. Hall (songwriter here) would be proud!!!
Magnificent Martin D-42 in that clip and wonderful pedal steel sound, so nitty-gritty...
All D-42’s are magnificent. Just sayin...
Hell yea. I seen James hand in the thumbnail so I had to click.
Same here!
RIP James hand 😞
top shelf.
Can't wait to show my grandkids this music, only 22 with a great son but this music screams old-school love it
Classic Tom T Hall tune....Charley please continue the wonderful country music. Nashville executives need to take note. We need music like this! Not the stuff Nashville is releasing nowadays.
