This is my favorite version, makes you feel like you're the last one in the bar and finally realizing you shouldn't have even came.
What a fitting and eloquent summation
That’s when you just keep drinking
This is a wayyyy distant 3rd to Elvis’ version, the definitive version as you well know is by Danny O’Keefe.
Hanif Barnwell I’ll listen to it and be back
Hanif Barnwell ok, so for me the o’keefy version makes me feel like I’m in a tropical setting if that makes sense. I like the lonely country town feeling of Charlie’s version more still.
what a great homage to the country/blues artists of the past, love it
Honest Fight -- that's a song!!!
This song perfectly describes me when I was single and stuck in my home town depressed. Now I’m married and some place new but damn me if this doesn’t tug on these old rusty heart strings
i almost feel you brotha. great description.
Hell if that aint me right now man
Ain’t that the truth 👍🏽
Glad you made it out and found something better, gives us all hope
Left the most beautiful place in the world and a lady who loved me in Oregon to come home and see my mom who's sick. Now I'm single and sitting at home in a town I hate, but hey you can't get the sunshine without some rain right? Glad you got out brother can't wait for my time to shine again
I respect this man's commitment to good old fashion country. Its tremendous 👏
This song makes me want to sit in a dingy bar and day drink. I love Charley Crocketts music and style.
I graduated college in May during the pandemic and couldn’t get a job. I moved back in with my parents and was working a part time shift that started at 5am just to make a little money. I listened to this song almost every morning on my drive and felt really down. Things are looking up for me right now and I am thankful, but I’m also thankful for the rough times that made me stronger.
Gotta go through em bro! Congrats on the grad.
Man, you've barely breached life. If you think thats 'down.' You'll understand as you get older how much farther 'down' you can go.
@@Sercer25 Don't sugar coat it for the boy, that's some hard truth right there
True wisdom clearly written. And if you live long enough, you’ll start to connect more with the Blues than with County. Not everyone is forced to “live” that much however.
That shows you how good music stands the test of time.
I have two wishes: that my kids live to be 100 years old, and that Charley Crockett makes 5 trillion dollars crafting his art. I love your voice and presentation young man. Go forward, and be good. I love what you do.
I agree 100%! Let's get him there!!
Also, 100% in agreement. I'd really like to meet Charkey Crockett some day, wicked talent.
Dam right this guy is something else. If you are looking for some old fashion country check out Colter Wall. He's the man!
Chad Fisher well said!! Agree 💯💯💯‼️
Dumbest comment ever
For a timeless song that's been covered by a ton of people, this version is outstanding.
I’ve said it 1000 times and I’ll say it again “Charley Crockett can’t do NO wrong “
Yep absolutely 😊🍻
This is the first AUTHENTIC new (but he's really been singing awhile) SINGER I've heard in years. No gimmicks, no flash and dash, just pure TALENT.
Not disagreeing with you but there are a number of country artists that fit this bill. If you'd like a short list let me know :)
Lew-e I would like a short list
Yeah me too!
@Lew-e, +1 for the short list! Thanks
And he's got SOUL.
i dont even like country music and this guy is my life right now. this man should be a star!
Hopefully this guy changes your mind. He's indispensable.
Don't judge country music by Charlie Crockett............he's much better than 95% of what's out there right now. IF you start exploring the older stuff (50's to 70's) you might uncover some sounds you like. For instance, the Danny O'Keefe original and Charlie Rich remake of this song are both fantastic. I can't tell you the name of a single country "artist" on the radio right now, and I use the quote marks in complete sarcasm. But before Nashville's greed destroyed country music, there was a long heritage of some great talent and wonderful music. If you spend some time getting to know the genre you should make some enjoyable discoveries. ;)
Well guess what? You like country music🤣
I guess that’s not true if you like this cat. But I guess it’s more important for you to dislike an entire genre of music then to say the words, “wow country music is pretty darn good after all.”
It’s perfectly ok to like only a very select few artists of a certain genre. Often the ones heavily pushed by the industry aren’t the ones that sound the best. I’ve been an avid country music fan for 45yrs, but hate most what’s pushed by Nashville today. For me it’s either older music or non mainstream talent like Charlie.
One of my favorite songs, one of my favorite cities. I knew that was Gallup right away.
Wonderful cover. I'm all for no one but guys named Charlie covering this song.
Charley with an E-Y
Most interesting voice I've ever heard. You are a star. Hope you make millions.
He seems to be mentally retarded.
great to see people here 5 years ago. he’s gettin real big
@@ElementProd. And I'm still jamming him daily on my playlist Can't wait until he tours near me!
@@orangejuice3688 heck yea man. me too. only been here for about 2 years though.
A big fan here from Australia. Ive been showing all my mates over here this. I Reckon you're right Charley you have to know how to play the old timers songs to be able to write a good one... But not always because rules are going to be broken.
Wait Charlie Crockett is from Australia
Austin Akins no, he’s from Texas.
Wow!, the kid is good. Johnny and Waylon are smiling
Interesting how this classic sound is “modernized” by a new artist like CC. Finally some great new music!
I reckon that’ll do just fine brother
Excellent tribute to Danny O'Keefe.
Charlie my friend, while I of course wish you to be successful in life. I truly hope you don’t get any more famous than you are now. You are easily the best new country artist around. It seems to me that fame just ruins everyone’s lives and music. So I truly hope that you just stay the course, and keep making this great music. Because it is gold.
Just believe my boy Charlie's gonna do country music right, wish h success
Thank you Charley for staying true
Love. Love. Love. Man this guy just brings me back to the time when the world was right.
The song’s about depression and feeling like life’s passing you by.
Ben Johnson he’s talking about the sound of time ... not the message
Problem is ain’t never was a time when the world was right but it’s nice music like this can make us think there was
Every song I've heard from this guy has been incredible! Relatable lyrics, timeless music, sharp dresser, and he also has a good eye for visuals as well.
I'm a 28 year old east coast city slicker. I absolutely love the country side, but for now I'm stuck. I grew up studying music in California. And let me tell you, there is no country music there. I knew lots about music but very little country. It wasn't until I discovered two amazing channels on RUclips that I became a country fanatic. Gems on VHS and Western AF have really changed the way I look at music. Charley I'm so glad I had discovered you. I've been flipping through your music all over the internet and just absolutely love it.
I once saw in a Texas bar men’s room, “There are only two types of music, Country & Western”. Welcome to the country genre.
Two phenomenal channels. True country. Benjamin Todd or lost dog street band and Sierra Ferrell are 2 of my favs
Extremely well done. Great graphics with the selection of locations and such. It puts a smile on my face whenever I see a post come online from Charley Crockett. Unique cat for sure. Seems like a very nice gentleman as well. Always has some nice threads on. Very cool.
He's one of the good ones for sure. God bless him
@@michaelragsdale2927 Well said Michael Ragsdale.
Yep I've been amazed by this man's wonderful music since the day I first come across it about half a year ago! Still can't get enough
Everybody's goin' away
Believe they're gone this time to stay
There's not a soul I know around
Everybody's leavin' town
Some caught a freight, some caught a plane
Find the sunshine, leave the rain
They said this town's a waste of time
I guess they're right, it's wastin' mine
Some gotta win, some gotta lose
Good time Charlie's got the blues
Good time Charlie's got the blues
Ya know my heart keeps tellin' me
"You're not a kid at thirty-three"
"Ya play around, ya lose your wife"
"Ya play too long, you lose your life"
I walk the streets to ease the pain
Won't do a thing to ease the rain
I'd love to try and settle down
But everybody's leavin' town
Some gotta win, some gotta lose
Good time Charlie's got the blues
Good time Charlie's got the blues
Good time Charlie's got the blues
I,guess I just, love the way, you, sing!!! Charley Crockett, is the biggest talent, in town!!!!
Something about your voice is catching. Im enjoying where you are. Keep up the great effort. Because it doesn't seem like work for you.. bless us all with more.
Growing up in Gallup, can I just say this version captures the “Gallup feel” perfectly
Dead right on that, great location shots.
El Rancho Hotel was the giveaway for me. Stayed there a couple of nights on a road trip with my wife.
Also spotted "Zimmermann's' and 'Richardson's', stores where we shopped.
Nothing like Beautiful scenery of Gallup, NM. Always has great visuals in the videos. Enjoying the music.
Yup. Started watching this video and went "holy heck, that's GALLUP!"
Yep, recognised Richardson's immediately. Great vid, nice vibe, Gallup the perfect backdrop.
This is the best version next to the original by Danny O'Keefe
Green Man I really liked it. Nice soulful vocals. Loved the organ, but better than Willie?
Give Hal Ketchum's version a listen
Charlie, not only do yo sing a superb version of all the tremendous classics, you also make beautiful videos. Thanks 🙏👌🎶
What an amazing song. Your voice gives this song such a beautiful breath of emotion and life!
Why isn't this man on the radio
T&S Ludwig no need for radio play when you’re self made.
He's on every day on 95.9 The Ranch in Ft. Worth Texas!
@@CodyTyler94 If they would let me back on air.....no brainer!... I broke Danny O'keefe 45 in 1972 on WHMC Gaithersburg, Md...
He is! In Texas at least
Hes on 98.9 fm out of Austin 🖤
I’m from far west Texas, growing up we spent a lot of time in New Mexico. I always watch this video when I’m homesick.
One of the best covers I've ever heard.
Love Gallup, New Mexico as a back drop!! 🙂
I was looking for the Charlie Rich version of this song but found this one. It was the first time I ever heard Charley Crockett and I have been hooked ever since. Got to love it!!!
This is a good version, right up there with Pride's and Waylon's is good too..
I sang in the el Rancho on a Monday night. Got drunk as hell and found a mummified cat...
This brought tears to my eye. Last night’s viewing was definitely not the liquor talking. This guy is great.
Great country 👍.....real country sound..... dig it....great videos too!!
I'm hooked!!!! Thanks to CBS Saturday I found this.
Humanity"s last gasp of fresh air, right here.
You win the internet today
I very much enjoy your interpretations of other's material Charley. This is a sublime cover of an already superb track.
brendon leary his covers are incredible. So good 💕
Anyone tells you that real country isn't around. Tell them about Crockett. He's real. DON'T JUDGE COUNTRY BY THE CRAP ON COUNTRY RADIO. Good country is out there. charley is a good starting point.
Bout time we got some swagger in this new country scene
I love your music Charlie, stay true to who you are! Thanks for creating and sharing this wonderful video.
Excellent version. Can't believe I haven't heard it before.
I raise a toast to this ol boy from my neck of the woods,San Benito Texas!
This is really fantastic music 👌. Music lovers have to take a stand!
A Star is Born, Love you brother. Viva NM! You nailed it!
Right !
Devastatingly authentic. Great job!!
Classic banger about 100th Time I played this Thang
🧡🧡🧡Not cheap Charley, just the opposite!...the look is brilliant! You and Lyza keepin’ it classy! Your work together is beautiful and the love ❤️ shines through!! Fantastic collaboration! 🧡🧡🧡
He is so cute i wanna marry him...so that he sings for me
He's already singing for your dollar, girl! That's gotta do because he dates a girl for decades lol not a high turn over rate towards your chances😁
Im only 20 and the love of my life got pregnant and on October 13 2020 the day he was born ends up all the bullshit I put up with was because of someone else's mistake I swear my life's a old western country song
your an original; brought me and mom closer, we nicknamed you james pounds perry lol keep up the good work sir 😂❤
First step to get rid of the blues: get the hell out of Gallup New Mexico!
Charley's reviving real country music one song at a time.
What a great video, you guys did a great job on it! Hoping you are feeling well Charley!!
Indie rnb meets country story telling. Very nice
Hey charley. Can you bring back that live session from downtown houston? It’s gone for a while and I miss it
Ditto to Chad Fisher 'cept I ain't got no kids, so here's hoping Charley lives to be 100!!! Keep cranking out the notes hoss!
This guy is so good the Devil sold him his soul
Love the original the best, but a excellent remake no doubt!!!
It’s sad today’s society would look down on Texas/western culture as a joke. It is still very much alive, partnah!!
After all these years it still bugs me about what kind of pills those are that eases his pain. Hehehehe
sweet..like in hemi
This boy can sing. Unique voice.
Thank You MR. Charley For Visiting Gallup, NM!!! This Home For Many Native Tribes Here.. So nice to see a nice small city in a Beautiful Amazing Etc. Song!!! Keep it real.. Hope you’ll see this..
-KC From A Small City
one of my kiddos, so sweet and gentle; hey C.C, maman khadija;}}} as well love from Bobby and Marc;}}}ko
For you guitar players (and listeners in general) out there, those are some nicely placed "double stops" on the guitar being played. Sweet sounds indeed!!
There are some Chet Atkins-esque licks in there.
Wow what a great song. The first time I didn't pay too much attention but wow he sings so good . Good job charley take care of yourself.
This shit is amazing!
Can I use it on a movie soundtrack?
Just found your music and I'm really blown away! Thanks man!
Wow, Steph Curry can sing!
Boy, there's a lot of good folks in this new resurgence of traditional country and Lil GL here might be the best!
Charley my friend you're on to something special and I wish you all the luck in the world! Need a Nick 13 collab !
I know this is a remake of an older song but you sir are on your way to being a country music legend
We need to start a petition to get this man to sing pop a top again. It’s honestly a crime he hasn’t. Pretty sure it’s illegal in some places.
I always get so happy when new artists bring back to life an "oldie" otherwise this brilliant work would just fade away. Charley is more than talent. And he shows that you don't need to go all "glam" to make it in this business. His videos are much more than those who will spend millions and a hundred people or more, to make. Great work.
first, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. the original is my favorite. now, this is absolutely incredible, charley. brother, im beyond impressed.
I grew up on the Danny O'Keefe version I will admit I like Charley Crockett version best of all the covers done
your music has helped me see the light again during such a dark time
Awesome job Charlie Crockett you gained a subscriber.
I LOVE THE VIDEO AND THIS SONG!!
I love his music sounds like old country they don't play music like this on the radio and it's a shame
Wow. I have never liked any cover of this after hearing Danny O'Keefe sing this when I was a young kid, but I have to say wow(again) he is good and that was a great cover. Definitely gonna listen to more of him.
Damn. I’m speechless.
Charley. IWant that accent. He gets it.
Another amazing song! Keep em coming charley
WAYLON does a great version of this song
When he looks in your eyes and sings about being in pain, you feel sorry for him for hurting as much as you have many a time. He didn't write it, but he sure feels it.
Thank you! Saw you play this in Lukenbach. Love you, Charlie. Hope you're feelin' better
Best outfits and videos
this man just always just sends chills down my body not to mention his style us un matchable
Good work amigo, keep trucking.
Cruz , Agreed pullin on those ol heart strings....Thanks Charley...another Smooth Country...ol couple way down in TX
It’s a shame only 600,000 people have heard this
play to long you will loss your life......
In 1974 I was 21 and I left Nashville for the road. Never had been out west, and y'all captured it man! The way it was back in them days. Thank you. Soulful.
Totally 😍 him he has much talent to give.
