Why does 'Happy Valley' resonate with people? Because it is excellent in every way possible. It is smart, gritty, suspenseful, funny, heartbreaking, and emotional. Leading characters fleshed out and complex. Actors are top-notch, and the writing is superb. Catherine is a monumental character--legendary within the first 15 minutes of the first episode--a status which she steadily built through the 18th episode.
