While this aged American, who doesn't even have a TV, has never seen Happy Valley, I thoroughly enjoyed your tour of its location on your home turf -- as I have enjoyed several of your other rambles. Unfortunately my stays in the UK, long ago in my youth, were confined by my research to the south, so I've enjoyed seeing parts of the country with which I was unfamiliar -- and through a natives eyes. Thanks!
Ahh thanks for this Gary. I’m really glad that the video has been interesting to someone who hasn’t seen the show, I really didn’t think that would happen so that’s cool! 👍👍
Only just found this, great to watch. I wish I could go back to the time before I watched Happy Valley and see it for the first time. I loved Kevin Doyle too, his anguish in the police station when he realised that the game was up was awful, it made me feel ill, and as you say he barely had to move a muscle to convey all of that. The shock when he tipped backwards off the bridge was horrendous. Thank you.
Thank you! Just a boring Midwest US grandmother here and huge HV fan….I will likely never see the places you’re taking us to. Therefore, I’m grateful for your video.

Me too, and when I heard that Last Tango in Halifax was written by the same woman I had to binge watch that too. I couldn't get it here in New Zealand. Had to wait until I went to London to see first 3 seasons, then 4th season at library back in New Zealand. Brilliant, and Sarah Lancaster starred in that too. Loved the end of Happy Valley.

Very much enjoy your videos .. we are located in Canada but have some life time connections to Hebden Bridge, which is one the best places on the face of the planet ... I am sure you will get from Sally sooner or later !! 😎
The murder of the young police officer took place on heath Hill Road between warley and Mount tabor I could see them filming from my window on the hillside
Lovely to see you wandering around the pen where I grew up. Our gail who also did, shared cigis and chatted with Sarah whilst she was filming around her house and Is sadly not with us now.. I often wonder whether sarah remembers her. Well done for your very good narration of a happy valley x

Great video. Loved it. I loved the ending of Happy Valley. The script was brilliant and so well acted between Sarah and James. The tension was so well set up. So poignant .poor pathetic TLR made us empathise with him. A test of a real actor! Sarah brilliant as usual. I’m coming to stay near Hebden next month so will definitely keep an eye open when we visit Hebden.

Great video, i live a few miles away in Queensbury and know Hebden well. The name of the young girl Lindsay Rimer brings back memories, i joined the local police in 95 and pretty sure i remember her body was in the morgue storage when we turned up as we turned up to the morgue in Bradford as part of our training.
I thought the police woman was killed on Heath Hill road heading towards Warley. I'd have to watch it again to be sure, but that was my immediate impression at the time. I've also spoken to the home owner at Mount Tabor where the murderer lived and was killed by his mum in season 2. They were very well looked after, all changes were put back and the cash compensation paid for a fair bit of modernisation.
James Norton (TLR) was actually born in Scarborough so I guess that's how he manages to nail the northern accent so well. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and Happy Valley, it was so brilliantly written and acted....I'm so sad it's finished....maybe we should start petitioning for more.... :D
I grew up in Hebden and finally got around to watching this show. I clocked Catherine's house immediately as by the old marketplace car park in Hebden and recognised almost all the locations. The chinese on Tuel Lane was particularly distinctive to me as I got stopped by a policewoman driving down there when I was just 17. It might even have been Catherine as I remember she was very fair, accepted my explanation of the situation and let me go with a warning. My only complaint would be episode 1 when she tells the accountant he'd have to go to Todmorden when of course Halifax is much nearer!
Great video which brings back fond memories of the area. . I am an Alumnus (1970's) from the same High School (Calder High) you attended In Mytholmroyd. Now living in up-state New York but get back to Burnley, Todmorden, etc frequently to see family.
I love, love, love the show. in fact I'm going there today, its not that far from where I live in Bradford. I 've been to Hebden a couple of times when the first series aired back in 2014 with my mum. but I loved the ending of the finale from series 3, I was glad it wasn't a fight scene or Tommy killed Cathrine. Even though Tommy did a lot of discussing things in his life. I felt sorry for him and was a bit upset when he died because of what he said to Cathrine and how he doesn't hate her anymore and maybe he could have a better relationship with Ryan and his family. But of all the characters I think my favourite is probably Tommy, from his journey from being a murder to a nicer caring person for Ryan and his family, and trying to get the best for him if he wasn't there for him in the first place. ..btw I've subscibed!
Thanks for this - really enjoyed it. I used to live in Middleton and visited HB all the time with my little dog, like every week. I so miss it! I live in Sweden now. Interesting what you were saying about Shipman and Todmorden. Not heard that before!
I heard Zoe Ball going on about Happy Valley on a daily basis, that in the end I binge watched the whole lot over about 5 nights! I was curious to know where it was all filmed, and have already scoured Google Maps like some deranged stalker. Nice to see it all described by someone in the know!

The episode was on fire yesterday, don't think that spoiled it. However been a blast coming across your channel. Having popped up in my algorithm since a Burnley Day Out last year.
Not a big TV watcher but Happy Valley is a belter. Not been to Hebden since before lockdown and good to see the streets again. Might pop over later in the year for a pub review( fox n Goose a must) cheers once again👍
Mark Stanley (the dodgy PE teacher) is from West Yorkshire, so would have got the accent right. He also played a complex character brilliantly. James Norton spent some of his youth in North Yorkshire.
@@wanderingturnip I have just had a Google enlightenment session: JN was born in London, but grew up in Malton and was schooled at Ampleforth School. MS is Leeds born and bred-- but lives in that there London nowadays. Enjoyable video by the way :)
Great upload Dave, the mrs said the end was meh, i hear in the Xmas special that they find a body in a chimney, under a stone wall, after a car chase and an explosion. Best wishes from Scotland mate
I live in hebden bridge, I've never seen this many tourists despite the fact that it has been a tourist town for years, Happy Valley is doing great for the local economy
The scene where tommy runs over the cop was filmed on Heath Hill Road in Halifax. Ive loved all three series of the show & also being from Halifax and knowing the area like the back of my hand made it even more interesting to watch
Nice to hear that the places it was filmed were real places.😀 loved the show. Glad the ending wasn't just a huge car chase. Sarah Lancashire is great 😀
Anyone know about all the little working children who all died due to adult negligence in a mill in the Victorian era, in Helton Bridge I am a South Easterner, but I live near there. But you should still experience other places such as Looondoon. Happy Valley was a proper work of art in every way. So much talent, excellent writing and everything.. amazing plot and stories.. so apt and authentic.
I’ve lived in mythemroyd my whole life and it’s so weird to see the streets that I used to trick and treat on and where I go to see my friends and even my old school being featured in the show. For the filming of season 1 the trailers where outside the community centre that I used to go and do brownies and holiday clubs it was really weird cause I had no idea what a film set was. I’m now pursuing a career in acting for screen and really hope to be on the show in the future
The two sisters had great chemistry. Ab brilliant Remember Siobahn from Rita Sue Bob too back in the late 80 s hope there’s another series they ll have to bring her back from retirement!
I'll need to look this show up. I'm not sure if it is Available in Canada, but sounds like a good show. Thanks dude! (Edit) Hey! CBC has seasons 1 and 2. Nice!
I'm quite behind, mid-season two. Don't worry I ruin plots for myself so no spoilers I haven't already done for myself. Lol great video. I love Rhys Connah lol he plays such a sweet little boy and he's intuitive but still innocent and forgiving and tries to understand why Gran does what she does. Well done to him! Great video. I found it on Reddit and I was kinda mad it only had three comments lol I look forward to the ending. Tommy Lee Royce drives me crazy ugh I just want to punch him lol
I’m from Halifax and my father from Tod. He always reminds me that Hebden used to be a cr*p hole with strange people. How things change. Some great walks around there for example Stoodley Pike and lunch in the Top Brink. Great for cycling. The valley is a flood zone nowadays. Gentleman Jack was also a great series set around the area.
Lots of admirers of scenery shown in TLR bike ride and stop over t'ops. I think that is the awkward Fly Flats / Warley reservoir road? On a good day, obviously!
I remember my dad telling me that Harold Shipman had been his doctor at one point and what a great doctor he was... if you weren't a rich elderly person anyway.
Rip Lyndsey Rimer, last seen alive in that shop then found in the canal. I was traveller at the time and we had our caravans searched looking for body parts , i will never forget that, the bastards. Cant remember the outcome but possibly family involved, it wasn`t us. Glad you mentioned her. I take that back about family cause its not nice even being put in the frame, rumours destroy lives. The estranged father lived in a caravan up on the side of that hill , he was most certainly brought in then obviously cleared.
I wasn't expecting the kitchen confab. Done so honestly, they sounded so off the cuff. It was a bit hard not to feel an "icky bit" sorry for Tommy. He still didn't get it, Like when he said to Cathryn, "You're just not very......bright?" Facial expressions were magnificent.
Went on the Google Street View map and found the streets not mentioned.... 1) @ 2:30 , 29 Hangingroyd Ln. Hebden Bridge. Catherines home. 2) @ 3:14 , Cleveland Ln. Hebden Bridge. Back of Catherines home. 3) @ 4:23 , 4 Crown St. Hebden Bridge. Where Neil worked. 4) @ 5:05 11 Crown st. Hebden Bridge. Shop was labeled Ripponden Wines at filming, now Blue Sky Bakers, where Johns gently ends his affair with Vicky. 5) @ 7:37 , between St.George's bridge and Market St. Bridge, where Tommy broke in and slept on a house boat. (not 100% on this location, but close.) 6) @ 10:38 ,17 Annie Sowerby Bridge, The Curry House for filming, now Happy Eating. Tommy hanging out in one scene. 7) @ 11:52 , corner of Station Road & Holmes Rd Sowerby, where John destroys a windshield. 8) @ 12:05 Wainhouse Tower near Skircoat Moor rd., Fake chimney phallic symbol, a 'folly' erection erected in 1871 by farmers with too much time on their hands. There it is. If your the type of fool who visits filming locations and throws pizzas up on peoples roof in Albuquerque NM, this is your guide for Happy Valley. Happy touring.
Lol, just a comment about accents in Hebden Bridge, as a resident I can witness that " southern" accents heavily outweigh what might be called local , though being born just down the road I can personally claim a local accent. Hebden Bridge being a popular place to move to it is surprising how many residents and even young children do not have local accents. I find this a bit weird sometimes 🤣
Love Happy Valley, season 2 is def my fave but i love them all. The 3rd one was good, slightly weaker but still agree with such good dialogue it works.
7:44 OMG, that's St Peters Church in Sowerby up on hill! How did I miss that! So at least they got my village in the show... kinda. The Chinese is just top end of Tuel lane. it used to be bloody amazing... then they started burning the food and no's gone there in years >_< Why not go to old Halifax pool where they filmed the 2nd Police station? And my Doctor's is right next to the old police station, so we actually caught them filming now and then, but we never saw anyone famous >_
Although the areas were showed as accurate in the show mainly, it made me confused at first during the third series where they filmed parts in Halifax and Bolton but showed it as being sheffield. 😅
Hi Wandering Turnip, there's EVP spirit audio at 0.25x video speed in my language: 12:50 'Det var rektor på skolen, der dræbte den unge pige' ('It was the principal of the school who killed the young girl'), 12:52 'Han var nemlig blevet forelsket i den unge pige.. og det må man ikke' ('Because he had fallen in love with the young girl... and that's not allowed') , 12:59 'Han fortjener dødsstraf, at få hugget hovedet af' ('He deserves the death penalty, to be decapitated'). This might be totally incorrect, of course.. but that's what the spirit says. Also I see two male spirit figures, wearing 19th century hats, sitting on the bank of thee canal, visible just as you turn around and point at 13:01 - try running the clip in slow motion and freeze the video halfway towards 13:02 then you'll be able to see them, kind of half see-through human figures, their legs over the edge, sort of as if they were sitting there fishing. There's also a ghost manifesting at 12:59 by your hand as you point towards the factory grounds, turning your head in the opposite direction - a worker on a barge (turns out it's just the top of the tree.. the spirit dissolves at 13:00). Remember we don't need to fear the spirit ancestors, the Nature spirits and the ancient Gods, as long as we simply respect them. The Internet is in itself an alternative reality, not actual reality but a parallel dimension, made of energy only, just as the spirit dimensions, the afterlife. Thank you The Völve, Asatru shaman of Denmark and the Lands of the North

Nah I reckon we’re still good there 😂 I appreciate it thank you for watching 😀
Not a big TV watcher but Happy Valley is a belter. Not been to Hebden since before lockdown and good to see the streets again. Might pop over later in the year for a pub review( fox n Goose a must) cheers once again👍
Yeah you’ve got a check out the fox and goose
yeah been in fox n Goose a few times over the years, belting boozer👍🍺
Mark Stanley (the dodgy PE teacher) is from West Yorkshire, so would have got the accent right. He also played a complex character brilliantly. James Norton spent some of his youth in North Yorkshire.
Oh yeah he was really good 👍 someone else mentioned James spent his youth, makes sense as it’s such a good accent
Haha if they go anywhere near chimneys they best expect me to be there 😂😂
I live in hebden bridge, I've never seen this many tourists despite the fact that it has been a tourist town for years, Happy Valley is doing great
for the local economy
The scene where tommy runs over the cop was filmed on Heath Hill Road in Halifax. Ive loved all three series of the show & also being from Halifax and knowing the area like the back of my hand made it even more interesting to watch
Thank you for this, I honestly couldn’t figure it out so cheers 👍
Spot on! Driven past that location many times.
Nice to hear that the places it was filmed were real places.😀 loved the show. Glad the ending wasn't just a huge car chase. Sarah Lancashire is great 😀
Anyone know about all the little working children who all died due to adult negligence in a mill in the Victorian era, in Helton Bridge
I am a South Easterner, but I live near there.
I agree - Kevin Doyle is incredible in Happy Valley. One of the best TV performances I've ever seen.
I thought the end was great… I come from Halifax but live down south now so thank you for this made me homesick
Get ya self back up north, you know it’s better 😉
@@wanderingturnip I know but my daughters and grandsons are here but I come back as much as I can
Brilliant, and eye candy too!
The two sisters had great chemistry. Ab brilliant Remember Siobahn from Rita Sue Bob too back in the late 80 s hope there’s another series they ll have to bring her back from retirement!
This is the best channel!
Hey thanks 😀😀😀
I'll need to look this show up. I'm not sure if it is Available in Canada, but sounds like a good show. Thanks dude! (Edit) Hey! CBC has seasons 1 and 2. Nice!
Yeah I was just on holiday in Spain and struggled to watch an episode, the BBC definitely make it hard to watch anywhere else
@@wanderingturnip I found season 1 and 2 on The CBC. Will watch for sure.
We always thought the mini murder scene was Workhouse Lane / Heath Hill Road between Warley and Mount Tabor.
I think you are right! Someone else has said that 👍👍
Another good un! Thanks!!!❤️
Awwwww. Tell more about your acting aspirations. If Sarah endorsed you that's huge praise.
Hi, great video! I'm fascinated by the locations on this TV show. Do you happen to know where Ashley Cowgill's caravan park was filmed?
I'm quite behind, mid-season two. Don't worry I ruin plots for myself so no spoilers I haven't already done for myself. Lol great video. I love Rhys Connah lol he plays such a sweet little boy and he's intuitive but still innocent and forgiving and tries to understand why Gran does what she does. Well done to him! Great video. I found it on Reddit and I was kinda mad it only had three comments lol I look forward to the ending. Tommy Lee Royce drives me crazy ugh I just want to punch him lol
I think it's filmed on Heath hill road heading towards Mount Tabor.
Thanks for this! My other guess was blackshaw head so way off 😂
That section of road can be closed off easily.
That was brilliant! :)
Lots of admirers of scenery shown in TLR bike ride and stop over t'ops. I think that is the awkward Fly Flats / Warley reservoir road? On a good day, obviously!
I actually have no idea where that was. I couldn’t place it all all, so thanks for this
Halifax Sailing Club.
I remember my dad telling me that Harold Shipman had been his doctor at one point and what a great doctor he was... if you weren't a rich elderly person anyway.
He was also my mother-in-laws doctors....nothing would kill her including Harold Shipman
They reckon he killed babies at hospitals too . I wonder what his body count truly is?!
Amazing video!!
Thanks sis ☺️☺️☺️
The scene on the last season when Claire follows them and rings Claire was filmed in Bolton Town center.
It looks a lovely place to live 👍
I really hope you get into acting you obviously deserve it!
(not 100% on this location, but close.)
6) @ 10:38 ,17 Annie Sowerby Bridge, The Curry House for filming, now Happy Eating.
Don’t forget the scenes shot in Bolton where Catherine confronts Claire in the café
Cheers Dave
Lol, just a comment about accents in Hebden Bridge, as a resident I can witness that " southern" accents heavily outweigh what might be called local , though being born just down the road I can personally claim a local accent. Hebden Bridge being a popular place to move to it is surprising how many residents and even young children do not have local accents. I find this a bit weird sometimes 🤣
Yeah my girlfriend is from Tod, and she has such a strong accent. She always says us lot from Hebden don have a Yorkshire accent, just a mix of loads
Love Happy Valley, season 2 is def my fave but i love them all. The 3rd one was good, slightly weaker but still agree with such good dialogue it works.
7:44 OMG, that's St Peters Church in Sowerby up on hill! How did I miss that! So at least they got my village in the show... kinda.
The Chinese is just top end of Tuel lane. it used to be bloody amazing... then they started burning the food and no's gone there in years >_<
Why not go to old Halifax pool where they filmed the 2nd Police station?
And my Doctor's is right next to the old police station, so we actually caught them filming now and then, but we never saw anyone famous >_
Love Hebden bridge, never seen "Happy Valley "
Although the areas were showed as accurate in the show mainly, it made me confused at first during the third series where they filmed parts in Halifax and Bolton but showed it as being sheffield. 😅
Hi Wandering Turnip, there's EVP spirit audio at 0.25x video speed in my language:
12:50 'Det var rektor på skolen, der dræbte den unge pige' ('It was the principal of the school who killed the young girl'), 12:52 'Han var nemlig blevet forelsket i den unge pige.. og det må man ikke' ('Because he had fallen in love with the young girl... and that's not allowed') , 12:59 'Han fortjener dødsstraf, at få hugget hovedet af' ('He deserves the death penalty, to be decapitated').
Thank you

Hey buddy, just wondering if you've heard of a place called langroyd hall in Colne? It may be worthy of a visit/video.
I have not heard of it
What is it?
@@wanderingturnip it's a grade listed building ( formally a pub) which has been left abandoned for years. Great looking building, I'm not sure if you can or can't gain entry to it though
@@wanderingturnip did try to send a link to an article about it but yt wouldn't let me
Great time to post this video, hope you get plenty of traffic
Have you watched the documentary Shed Your Tears and Walk Away about suicides in Hebden Bridge?
Can you give tours of all creatures great and small towns and area. The Yorkshire dales.
Nice vedio always you are alone 😊
I stopped watching after the first season because it was too scary for me. Is season 2 any less scary or should I leave it??
I was amazed when I heard Sarah's real accent she pulled that northern accent off to a tee.
Sarah is originally from Oldham
