These videos have always been super helpful and informative- the production value just keeps going up. Every video is really thoughtfully informative and has a clear intention and great editing, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who really appreciates the quality.
Thank you so much for saying that! I'm so happy to hear that you are enjoying/learning from the lessons! I spent a lot of time on this one so It's music to my ears to hear your kind words!
Man Gave when is enrollment going to open so I can enroll and start saving up to get my 1st drum kit!!! I dont know jack about srumming but I want to learn n havw the passion. To me seems like it will be easier than a guitar. I'm not a fast learner but can't wait to change that!!!
Studying and learning the moeller technique helped me a lot. Now if i play faster beats/patterns i have this looser grip and ”swingy” motion which makes the playing more relaxed.
you've come a long way brother. your skills, your style, and your overall video production has improved so much. I know, because I've been watching your videos ever since you were just starting.. cheers from Drum Teacher Manila -Teacher BLue
Watched this video a couple of months back (pre Coronavirus times) and I basically forgot all about it, then I watched it again a couple of weeks back (in lockdown) and wow my hand speed has improved. Thank you so much for these awesome tips and exercises Gabe, keep these great vids coming, they are the best part of my day when I watch a bit of your videos!
good to see someone passing along the really important info. all 3 are essential and vital to becoming fluid and smooth. great demonstration and video ! bravo!
U are alot easier than any other pro teacher that I've seen and u have created something to where even slower than normal ppl can learn on their own time this is sooo soooo great bc I grasp thi g a bit slower than most. So in a normal music class I would not be avle to keep up so I have nevwr even thought to try to achieve my dream of playing music.
I was practicing the clapping exercise, forearms together, clapping hard and fast, 2 mins on, rest 10 secs then 2 more mins of grimacing and grunting fast clapping. The plan was to get thru 10 of these sets but I only got to 6 before they asked me to leave the Starbucks.
Thanks for the video, Gabe...! I will say, having done concert percussion and drum-line for 3-4 years before learning to play the drum-set has helped a ton with already having the muscle memory of rudiments and speed and odd patterns... Thanks man, love your content!
@@DrumBeatsOnline Going from concert percussion drumming to drum-set drumming required quite a transition and your videos have helped me a lot to get where I am now so it's the least I can do to thank you. Speaking of rudiments, I have a Grade-5 Snare Solo in three weeks so, wish me luck... (It's 116-bpm in 2/4 time, with many 16th-notes and 16th-note-triplets so it's fast...)
I'm so glad I practised push pull! 2 years ago I saw Matt McGuires videos and was so impressed by his Push Pull speed (especialy in his cover Changed The Way You Kissed Me)! :o Now 2 years later I can do it faster than in his videos :D That's so sick!
I sat at my drum kid the other day trying the push and pull tech, bwaahhahahahahaha..... I couldn't figure it out, I scrolled on your video and it is so simple the way you break it down
Thank you very much, this video is the most productive not wastage of time. I think you should to continue from this stage to upper level with exercises.
I've been watching your channel for a while now and I have one thing to say - you're the best. Every single one of your lessons is straight to the point, fun to watch and making me improve so much. I'm really glad to find out more and more of your videos cuz every one of them suits me the most and is exactly what I was looking for. All I'm saying is keep doing what you're doing cuz you really affect and influence people, and not everyone can do that. Btw your jokes get me every time
This video is so informative and helpful and I will be using these in my playing from now on. Was wondering if you could do another in depth lesson into double bass drum technique and speed?
Been thinking on this a little bit, I've been trying to develop a daily warmup routine kinda deal, and the excercises here seem like a great hand warmup. Would the same excercises work as a feet warmup too or would I want to look for something slightly different in that regard?
Not much to compare.. The only real difference is the sound. The feel is pretty much the same with modern double pedals. Technically your sound will be different because double bass setup will allow for more resonating between a second stroke since double pedal is on the same drum. But in reality it doesn't make much of a difference. You play every other drum with 2 hands.. Why can't you do the same with the bass? I think a double kick setup is obsolete now. Double pedals are so smooth and feel almost exactly the same for each foot that a double kick is not necessary. Hope that helps!
You have always been a great inspiration to me, your videos are so thoughtful and the problems and points you mention on these videos are right on the spot everytime, at least with me. Thanks for your great lessons to let struggling drummers like me to step up in right direction. I will definitely follow these steps . Thankyou so much once again ! Love from NEPAL. 🇳🇵♥️ #VISITNEPAL2020
#2 is better known as muscle memory. Instead of a hard practice pad give a go at putting a Remo silent stroke head on one of you spare snare drums, has a closer feel to actual batter head but has the benefit of low volume.
When you're doing the tabata exercise should you be concerned with timing (i.e. use a tick) or is this simply an exercise to get to that desired speed by brute exercise, then introduce a tick? I've seen that clap somewhere before (jojo Mayer :) )
For Tabada, it’s more about building up your surrounding muscles and go as fast as possible. So I’d do this without a click! And yes, I learned the clapping from Jojo Mayer years back!
I am pretty damn good at various instruments! Drums......NOT SO much lol thank to your videos I am getting it down man thanks for the great content! I have been watching and wondering what kit is that brother?? Looks and sounds great!
Hey Gabe!! I'm kind of struggling right now cuz my arm kind of wants to do the same thing my kick does. Like my hihat is messed up cuz it imitates the beat I do with the kick. Do you have any advice??
Idk what book it comes from but theres a chart that has various hands and feet combinations(over 1000 permutations) for example LLRR with the feet and RRRLLL with the hands. Make sure each hand and feet hit exactly at the same time. You will build coordination and limb independence as well as hand/feet pattern automation unbelievably fast. The other trick is to SLOW down and train your limbs to do what you want to do by being slow, deliberate, and perfectly precise.
Idk if you ever received help but the only way is to gain limb independence...you must look for and routinely practice techniques that require each limb its own movement that when put together...sounds good
dang that's such a great exercise, i'm always looking for new patterns to try out. patterns that switch in the middle are so important, when you're playing a set you're always switching up your patterns so practicing rudiments that switch are incredibly helpful. one of my favorites that i've been working on is with triplets: RLR LRL RLR LRL RLL RLL RLL RLL RRL RRL RRL RRL RRR LLL RRR LLL. i kinda stole it from adventure drummer but added the RRR LLL RRR LLL on at the end.
Thanks so much for watching everyone! You might want to stick around until the end of the video... 😉
