He always had the black side in him,if you heard his earlier stuff the dude had some soul,I think in this one he finally came to the cookout lol,he came in hard with this one and just to let you know the genius Teddy Riley was behind production with this track which explains it all lol.
It shows how willing Boy George was to try different things with his music. It was Virgin’s American branch that had the idea to have him do new jack swing. George was absolutely displeased with the Teddy Riley songs, but because the Tense Nervous Headache album had been cancelled in his home country of Britain, the record label needed to replace some of the songs with the Teddy Riley songs to release the album in America as High Hat. High Hat likely would have been released in Britain as well, but “Don’t Take My Mind On A Trip” flopped there.

This song was the shit back in the day ... It made #5 on Billboard's R&B charts, back in 89. I still remember listening to it in my buddy's 1983 Cadillac Seville. Those were the days of fun hip hop. Glad to see George has lost the weight and is drug free. Also, awesome to hear that Culture Club is back together, and working in the studio, to get a new album out this year.

The Genius which is Boy George is all encompasing, if all the people of the World would just embrace his music in it's entireity the World would be a much better place. George is a once in a Generation talent.
FUN FACT!! This song was originally written for Bobby Brown, but he turn it down when it was introduced to him. In the mean time, Boy George solo career was slipping, and said he is willing to try anything, and that is when someone introduced him to Teddy Riley.
Cool fact. Boy George totally made this his. If Bobby sang this, it would've been one of the weaker songs on "Don't Be Cruel", because that album is flawless, unless Teddy made it funkier for him.

George said in his book that Virgin records wanted him to not wear lipstick in this video lol! They thought it would hurt his chances in America as a solo artist. I love this song! I remember BET showing this a lot but not MTV.
@@HarveyDent322 It wasn't that. It was basically since Hair Metal taken over MTV after New Wave or the second British Invasion took over the channel in the early to mid 80s was over, that's when the channel and the music was going downhill
Believe it or not, Boy George said in an interview that he HATED the songs that Teddy Riley & Griffin produced for him. It was the label who talked him into going along with it.
Yes. He clearly wasn’t used to being given other people’s songs, especially ones that had already been rejected for other singers, which in this case was Bobby Brown. The songs likely may not have been released right then and there if the Tense Nervous Headache album had not been cancelled in his home country of Britain. The record label had spent plenty of money of songs Boy George had recorded and needed something that would particularly sell in America after the Sold album pretty much flopped there.
I remember Boy George was in trouble and couldn't come to the states to record (drugs), so Teddy had to send this overseas to him. This was a bop back in the day and still goes hard today 😤 89/90

Simply just a slamming song, Boy George, has a great melody in his vocals, his tune is always on point. Another great on the album was “ You are my Heroin”
Boy George smile on 3:36 is so beautiful and magical, he is very cute and I love him so much, god bless him, this song is one of the best songs ever it deserves more success xxx
It is pleasure to hear one so talented in this world. Without individuals like George the world would be such a bland and dire place to live. We are privaleged to exist at the same time as this once in a generation talent!
When ths joint came out in '89 I was so happy because George had been MIA for awhile and it was so great having him back, adapting with the changing music scheme.
This is my shit! Been loving this song since '89 and here we are in '03. Teddy Riley produced and it was such a cool departure from the Culture Club sound.

BET and Urban Radio played this song a lot back in the day. Who could blame them? This song was and still is THE JAM. This was also, in my opinion, a good look for Boy George. No homo. Glad that, in this video, his image was not so soft.
this might have been trash world wide but on black radio it was hitting!!
Even George himself didn’t think much of it.

One of George's BEST singles EVER. I first saw the video premiere on COuntdown Revolution in 1989. Still so kick ass!!!!
Mainstream slept on this, but it was banging in the urban circles. History wont sleep on Teddy Riley and his influence. Mark my words...
