    Attention non vr users - fps in game looks nothing like inside the headset… therefore lower frame-rates or dips aren’t as bad as playing on a flat screen.
    that said i’m not prone to motion sickness so don’t quote me.

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад +2

      For many, frame drops can be a big cause of motion sickness. Due to moving, then delayed response in what you actually see, this can induce motion sickness pretty fast.
      Personally I'm not sure if motion sickness is more due to not being used to VR, or more of an inate problem people have, but I've played on low frame rates on my old rig, and never once felt sick. Starting with less intense motion games probably does a lot to help.

    • @patriktoth6258

      @@n.o.b.s.8458Motion sickness is a thing even outside vr. My buddy had no problem first playing with it. He travels 70km daily to work and back. Me on the otherhand not. And even outside VR without leaving the city for a long time and walking everywhere i had motion sickness first. Now that problem solved and by now in VR i can play games like war thunder air battles. None flying games like Walking Dead Saints and sinners are nothing compared to a game where you sit in a plane and travel at 1350km/h in a jet fighter. I can even do manouvers without having motion sickness

      Congrats on the scholarship, and happy gaming! I got my quest 1 used for $200 a little while back, so if your budget is tight consider that option! The quest 1 has a nicer head strap, oled screen (lower resolution and refresh rate, but better contrast) and 2 headphone jacks which is nice.

    I wanted to add a quick detail for your reference! Let me explain what's going on in the bottom right real quick:
    The way frame times work is by showing delay caused by lower frame rates. In my scenario, the target is 72 hz (equal to 13.9 ms). Whenever that number dips *below* 13.9, that means I'm getting MORE than 72 FPS. Whenever the number is higher, I'm getting *less* than 72 FPS. You can use an online calculator to figure out what the frame rate is from this number, and in my case the lowest FPS I saw was 18.1 ms in Boneworks, which equates to 59.4 FPS.

    Is it worth getting a 6600 for VR? I have a 1650 super at the moment and I've been planning on getting a quest 2 soon, so I thought I'd also get a GPU capable of playing pcvr. Could I play stuff like Skyrim VR, blade and Sorcery, hl alyx, Asgard's Wrath, etc?
    I don't minding turning down my settings to medium or something for demanding games but I really want to get into pcvr

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад +11

      The 6600 can definetly handle those games comfortably on lowered settings. Your 1650 super will struggle on full resolution, and large maps.
      The biggest bottleneck you’ll run into is not enough RAM. So areas like I showed in the video with large environments will really screw your performance.

    Sounds like this will be a good upgrade for me... i'm working with a pretty pathetic RX570 right now and I manage to get 53 frames in VR Chat (which is the game I play the most so it's what i'm speccing for) eventually I want a better card but for now this should be fine i'd imagine?
    It also doesn't bother me if it dips down to about 50 or so as for some wierd reason my eyes are goofy and I don't really register much more than 40 fps... it's not like my eyes can't see above it... I just don't really register if it gets above that... so not having maximum frames doesn't really bother me I just want something that will result in less tearing and stuttering aswell as just generally play it better.... which my guess is this would cover.

      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад +2

      Yo! this card would definetly be an upgrade my guy. TBH if you're experiencing stutters and hitching on VRC I'd spend some time messing with your safety settings and performance settings in game. A better card will obviously help, but NO ONE is getting flawless performance on this game. THere are just too many un-optimized maps and avatars, and so many people that it isn't perfect.
      That said it's still a solid card for gaming and VR!

    • @stansmith7445
      @stansmith7445 2 года назад

      This card will be great!! It was only really dipping when at max settings. You should be fine with a medium to high config, or a medium to low config if you want that extra performance for something higher than 72hz. But as he said though, vr chat isn't exactly stable. It has issues even in the greatest of cards.

EA...
      I also do have most people turned off already except for Trusted and Known users and I turn off models that are EXTREMELY over the top... though this setting is more because I hate crasher kiddos and can't be bothered to reverse crash them ever 10 minutes... lol.

      @@stansmith7445 Yea I never expect VR chat to be stable that's the name of the game i've been using Video Chat Aps like it for years... the quality of your fps and such is always dependent on how optimized the avatars, world, etc is. This is just to give me that little oomph....
      Also I plan on doing some of those 'Vr Players mess with people on Omegle' videos so being able to ensure atleast a steady FPS while doing this on a optimized world and a bit of over clocking maybe is all I need.

    So final verdict is that this card is quite adequate for vr, depending on the games and optimization, other components etc. I'm looking at this card regardless but I'm actually kindof stoked to see that it can be vr capable with the right settings and a strong enough system. I'm only really interested in blade and sorcery, beatsaber and maybe something else (don't really have a good idea of the vr games out there). It would be a huge monatary investment for a vr set too, but with regards to my specs : R5 1600af, 4x 8gb 3000mhz ram, 450m steel legend and then the RX 6600 could this be a decent enough system for the above games? I'd appreciate any help or suggestions maybe even some guidence for a good vr headset that doesnt break the account over its knee and asks me to call it daddy😂

      Ha ha ha, so your CPU is a little on the slow side. It’s not going to ruin your performance, but you should avoid spending too much on your GPU and the cpu will bottleneck performance.
      But, with this card and your setup VR is in arms reach! Compared to my system, you will see worse performance, probably around -25% for fps from some quick research.
      As for headsets: I bought my quest 1 on Facebook marketplace for $200 used. Its a worse headset than the quest 2, but can be found around half the price, and it’s the only headset I’ve owned lol.

      AMD has a lot of issues with VR, this is normally vr manufacturer faults not AMD. But the card is great, your CPU may bottleneck the gpu by about 2%, you will really see an improvement if you have enabled smart access memory, and your cpu could definitely benefit off of faster ram. But most games you play should definitely run great. (The games you have mentioned.) I'm about 2 months late but perhaps this helped if you haven't already upgraded.

      Hey man!
      It’s a little tricky to compare since there isn’t a lot of info on vr between the two. Generally it looks like the 6600 has about 10% more fps. Just to put that in context, that’s the difference between 70 and 77 fps, so quite a small difference.
      It’s possible that the 6600 will handle larger, and more detailed environments better, as it does have more vram and newer architecture. At the end of the day I think spending more to get the 6600XT is a better buy. Also look into overclocking for some free performance, might as we work with what you’ve got!

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  4 месяца назад

      From some basic research it looks like it should run at over 100 fps, may need to tweak settings a bit.
      The test I did with boneworks should give a “worst case scenario” for ALYX, I wouldn’t hesitate at all.

    Hello, do you know if the RX6650XT could run Vrchat without any issues? Heard it could have troubles and it wouldn't even run Vrchat, is it true?

      Heya! The 6650XT is more powerful than the rx 6600 I used in the video, so your results should be even better.
      I'm not sure who told you the 6650XT wasn't powerful enough, but it's very much better than what most PC gamers are using on their PC's in general. That said, VR chat is a bit of a hot mess to run mostly because there are TONS of avatars on a given map, many are unoptimized and (as mentioned in the video) your internet, and the server your on have a huge impact on performance due to the nature of the game.
      Basically, it's a strong option for VR gaming but VRC is hard to have a solid experience with on ANY gaming rig because of poorly optimized maps, avatars, servers that are hosted in different countries, etc. Play with your Steam VR and VRC settings and don't expect perfection, it will be solid.

    I had a 6600xt. Raceroom is a dx9 game and the 6600xt did horribly in that game using either a cv1 or a rift s. I sold it and bought a 3060ti. Even my 1080ti did way better than the 6600xt. I wonder if anyone else had that issue. The game had weird visual streaks and glitchyness.

      I know some older versions of radeon software had strange issues and bugs with Direct X 9, that could have been it. Did you have the latest software installed?
      As far as performance between the two, They're almost identical. Performance differences usually come down to game engine type, and even at that it's uncommon to see more than 5% performance difference in either direction.

      @@n.o.b.s.8458 yeah, I always kept up on the updates because I was hoping the updates would fix my issues. I don't want to be a fan boy but I've had 5 nvidia cards and I have never had an issue. I've had several issues with amd including this one, so when people tell me the 6600xt is better than a 1080ti, I'm like...man, if you only knew. 6600xt was good for 1080p flat-screen, that was about it. Always wondered if I just had a trash card, but it was enough for me to probably not buy an amd gpu for a while.

      Oculus quest and quest 2 just use usb 3.0 (special cable required) for oculus link.
      The Rift s uses a standard DisplayPort cable. So, either way yes.

    Would a 6600 do good with rift s?

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад

      Rift s is even easier to run.
      If you don’t already own one, I’d recommend just getting a quest though. The rift s has pretty poor support these days, as well as a super annoying “robot voice” issue that doesn’t have a great solution.
      For single player games it’ll probably work ok, but still worth looking at an upgrade down the line!

      Regular 6600. Shouldn’t have any issues with your rift s, oculus quest is essentially detected like a rift. Though the rift does have its own bugs which haven’t been patched.

    I have an rx 580 and a ryzen 5 2600. I can definitely play on low settings on VR (Quest 2) but do you think the 6600 is worth getting to upgrade?

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад +7

      Your 580 is super underpowered for full-blown VR. The 6600 is roughly 80-90% more powerful. Not to mention newer architecture and more RAM, it would be a huge improvement.
      Your CPU is a little older, but not to the point where it would be a major bottleneck. Some physics-heavy games may have worse performance than a newer chip, but the best money you could spend right now is just on a new GPU.

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 года назад

      Hey thanks for watching! The valve index actually has the exact same resolution per eye as the quest 1. With the numbers I posted about frame rates you can tell what kind of performance you'd get on that headset.
      For higher resolution, this card does struggle. It's best suited for 1440P gaming, maybe a little higher. I will say that I've got a buddy that owns a PIMAX, but he never uses it due to so many issues and bugs.
      *edit* also note that the tests were all done at MAX settings, and in the hardest area of boneworks to run. You should have no issues getting over 100 FPS for the vast majority of the game on slightly lower settings, especially with adaptive resolution on.
