National Title is awfully optimistic lol. Making it into the second weekend in the NCAAT would be a success. There just isn't a high enough ceiling, but one more scorer would definitely help our odds.
And yes, expectations for a championship is every year at Kentucky. We should hold Pope to the same standard as every other coach that has came year! Let's hope #9 comes sooner than later!

8th seed is the floor, 2nd seed is the ceiling.
First year I'd be satisfied with sweet 16 or better. But gotta recruit a couple guys gets some athleticism in here and develop the 5 or 6 guys that have another year. Throw-in a top transfer or 2 at whatever spot we need. Likely PF, center, and wing next year. Don't have to be 5 star. But 1 or 2 is good mixed in. Get Moreno, and jasper Johnson for sure is a must get.
We have our guys I guess you aren't following. This last guy just formed our team. Also pope's offense isn't focused around these young athletes anymore even though athleticism is always great to have as well.
Robinson raises our floor a good bit, but I’m not sure he does a ton for our ceiling. As long as we make the tournament in year 1 I’ll consider it a success. Would love to get at least one or two sec tournament game wins as well.
Also I think a 5 seed possibly 3 if we win some of the tough road games in conference. And shock Duke at the beginning.
I like Mark having High Expectations..Did amazing work in no time year one! I’m with you if we don’t win this is not a failure. I wanna get a sweet 16 and let’s go from there . We got to give Mark more time too. A full few years to get his system freshman, vets , and I think he got amazing pieces and we will be pretty darn good this year
ok...be tough in the SEC tourney and get to the 2nd round in the Tourney....better, more realistic. However, I will take number Nine!
Cal had 1 in 15 years. A title should always be the default goal, but it's not required for a successful season.
I believe they have a REALLY GOOD CHANCE THIS YEAR
100% more than the last 5 years minus maybe covid year. But we will never know about that one.

I doubt we win a championship this year, but we are going to be very competitive and definitely could win the SEC and do decent in the tournament. I fully believe we will have a better season than Cal
I would never say we could win a championship without knowing how they will gel but if you think they have a shot to win the sec then I’d say they have a shot at a title because the sec is going to be very strong this year just like last year. Honestly possibly better.

I feel like they could be a 7 or 8 seed that goes all the way to final four kinda like we saw with NC State this past year, what we saw with UNC a few years ago with Caleb Love, UCLA 2021. He has guys on his roster who can shoot the lights out over 40% and if Pope get a special connection with his players and they get hot at the right time they could be dangerous underdog especially after both Mark Pope and Robinson experienced a first round upset early last year and be poised for a bounce back
I really love the team he's put together, and there's a real possibility that Will Riley could reclass and join them as well, which this team would go from really good to a level above that

At least 7 of these guys have played against each other. If you know ball; you’ll see that the versatility is one of the top in the country. It’ll come down to chemistry by March

I think without seeing a game yet they could probably get to sweet 16 … we need to see games first to make a better evaluation … I think a 5 or better is there seed in tournament
A NC is a stretch, but I like the energy.
Sorry to break it to you but, teams are by rule, prohibited from playing first weekend games of the NCAA tournament at a venue they have hosted more than 3 games in during the course of the season. Therefore, as great as it sounds, we couldn’t play at Rupp during the rounds or 64 & 32.
That’s true. Besides only duke,north carolina and kansa are allowed to play close to home.
This is correct. You can’t play games in your home arena. But say, if Memorial hosted games we could play there. Or Louisville.
Also, games in Lexington aren’t tied to specific teams, seeds or regions. It depends on the overall seed list and whoever is geographically closer at the time of seeding.
@@ryanwinders6254 you could play in louisville but lexington is where some of first two rounds of next years tournament are going to be played. Can only be played at rupp memorial is to small for ncaa to have games there.

Pope is a Disaster! BYU has been signing nothing but 5 star and 4 star players since he left and BYU is celebrating his departure. We now suck and BYU is the true “Blue Blood!” Very Depressing! 😢
Fan for 60 years: have watched thousands of many games by many teams. A national championship is way too high for a first year coach! We will likely make the tournament as a low seed; will not win SEC tournament.
I don't expect Pope to bring in the National Title this year, but if anyone can do it he can. He understands the fan base. He understands what makes Kentucky Kentucky and it is not about just talent. It is about determination to win and carrying the expectations of the fans and the state. It is about pride. He, unlike Cal, seems to grasp how to transmit all of that into his players. Cal looked at the whole thing as a challenge to himself personally simply to survive. Pope seems to understand that the real assignment has very little to do with him personally. He gets it.
love the team he put together in short time, but let’s not kid ourselves and say this teams a title contender
Can’t say they aren’t at this point no more than you can say they are. From a talent and experience perspective, they have what it takes to make a deep run. However, we don’t know how they will gel until they hit the floor and get some run time together. Roles need to be established and some plays need to be made before we can say one way or the other.

It's our defense that i'm looking forward to. The team last year would have been phenomenal if they had good defense. I'm seeing this next year. How we have all these shooters get some good rebounds. It might be a pretty good team

Although I am excited about what coach Pope has done this year, I think it would be extremely hard to get a national championship with a team that most do not even have ranked in the top 25 although being a true Kentucky fan it would be like a dream come true but on all reality it's not likely

It all depends on the coaching staff and the players. If they want it, really really want it, they'll get it.
We have an all star team , we will be no lower than a 4 seed, it’s ok to expect a championship this year but it’s not a failure if we win one game…just puts 2 or 3 win pressure on to the next season
I hope we stop playing so many cupcakes to begin the season. Bring back the maui. Events like pk80, battle 4 Atlantis. Things cal was scared of. And i just hope we can bring jasper Johnson home and malachi Moreno. That would be a big big step for recruiting. Great players plus from ky.
Thank you. Was so tired of playing this stupid games overseas against Michigan and not going to Maui and cal avoiding the pk80. Every big Nike school was in that and he refused it. Was not a good look at all. Cal refused to play the big boys because of his excuse of them being young and the lame excuse of it’s not like the real tourney so we don’t do it. Should have never been his choice once we seen his vision.
@@cordercorder8785I mean I like the championship classic. And cbs sports classic, with ucla, osu, and unc. But we had no good home games. And And never played on the road in non conference unless it was Louisville. We need them to be decent so it's a good win. But a few cup cakes ain't bad, just not every game. I'm excited for sure

We have shooters yes! But sometimes you got to admit bad games happen. Need to beat Tennessee and Arkansas ! They say Alabama is the SEC best team but we will see! Go Cats I have plenty of faith .

Playing at home in the NCAA tournament is not an option. They wouldn't put Ky in Lexington. Can't happen.
I think they still still do the pod system where they put the 1-4 seeds as close to home as they can in the first 2 rounds but also make it where if you are the host school you can't play at your home arena during the tourney. So now chance to play in Lexington but could see Cleveland if we happen to get a 1-4 seed.
I think people are wildly underestimating how good this team could be. They've got 12 guys who are all good at certain things and they should be able to compliment each other very well. Should be one of the deepest and most versatile teams in the country. Assuming that Coach Pope and his staff are as good at X's and O's as we think they are, he will be able to rotate all 12 of these guys in and out all game long and just create matchup nightmares for the opposing teams. They should be at least a top 4 seed and I would not be surprised at all if they get a 1. If they do manage to get Will Riley this year, just watch out.

I frankly think people, (i.e. this podcast), don't have much insight. Pope has done pretty much what I expected. He was my #1 choice as coach. Barnhart is an excellent AD and really good at personnel selection.
If this team meshes like we think it can, I expect the Cats to be in the hunt for the SEC, SEC Tournament, and NCAA championships.
Doesn't mean they will, but definitely a contender.

A first year head coach has NEVER won a national title in cbb history, and I don’t think this is the class to break that record unfortunately. But I would say that a very reasonable goal would be to win at least 2 sec tournament games, maybe a chip (unlikely w the power of our conference). Then I would say that a second weekend in March would be a success.

Fair point, although Tubby didnt have to create a roater from scratch either. He had the bulk of a team that won a title two years prior and lost in the championship game (in overtime) the year prior.
But yes, good point. There is at least one coach that won a title in year one.

@@rdsacranot as many as you think though. Anderson, Delk, McCarty, Mercer, Pope and Walker were not on the 98 team. That team tubby won with was a very solid team but I don’t think he gets enough credit for the way he coached that team up. Now he did have a bulk of the 97 runner up team.

I think sweet 16 is very possible if this team can gel however this team needs a playmaking guard or bucket getter unless the freshmen are ready. Chaz Lanier was a better pick up than Jaxson Robinson because he’s just Koby brea basically.
