Thank the gods for this video. I found a squirrel on my walk that is still really young, probably 3-4wks old. He's got blood around the mouth and nose, but I'm going to do my best to keep him alive through the night to contact a wildlife rehab center in the morning. He's got a hot rice sock and some shirts to nest in, and I'm going to try making some pedialyte since we're on lockdown for COVID-19.

@@lynnburton7873 Good for you! The little guy we found stayed with us over the winter. I was advised by people on a squirrel forum that putting him outside with no food stored for winter, no nest and no one to share a nest with would be lethal for him. So he spent the winter in our spare bedroom, chewing on the woodwork and leaving brown and purple pee spots on the carpet. At any rate, this past spring once frost dangers were over, I put his big-boy cage out on the deck and, after a few days, opened the door. He met the resident wild squirrels (lots of chattering and chasing) but returned every night to his cage to eat and sleep. Then, after a few days, he didn't come back. My hope is that he found a gorgeous squirrelette who persuaded him that the wild life was the best life. I still miss him but having known him and being close to him was a privilege I won't forget. It was more than worth the shredded window frame and pee stains. Best of luck and, if you have any questions about your little guest, don't hesitate to ask. I may not know the answers but I can possibly steer you to some helpful sources.

By mixing the formula with a small whisk (Dollar tree stores) there will no lumps. Also the formula should be mixed and stored in the refrigerator over night so it's easier for the babies to digest. Also by adding a small amount of heavy whipping cream will give them extra calcium and fat. Start with a couple of drops and increase as they start eating more. Their momma's milk is naturally high in fat. Continue adding to formula until they are weaned.

wonderful! For baby birds fallen out of nest, I found that the best way to get them to eat is to use a pair of tweesers to pick up the grubs and present them to their beacks, in my case that was the only way to get the baby bird to eat, it must be that it thought it was his mum's beack! The vet told me which grubs to buy, he said those worms for fishing to use as baits.

Very thankful I came across this vid. Was working out back and heard a squeal of terror. Found the little guy just below his nest 30 ft up. Had right eye trauma and blood from his nose...but still breathing. Mama never showed up. I took him in that night and he obviously had some fight in him. I gave him some half/half, not knowing any better. I started surfing squirrel care info saw this vid and ran to the Pet Store in the nick of time to get some milk replacer. He was about 3 weeks old then and is now about 6 and doing really well. All healed up, scampering about, starting to nibble nuts and seeds with some agility and even chews on rodent blocks a fair amount. Made him a cage and nesting box based on your design links.

Thanks for the video. The 15-year-old girl next door brought me a baby squirrel yesterday afternoon. It was very lethargic. She has two big dogs, a terrier, and a cat at her house. The local organization that used to take in animals no longer do, so I did a Google search and came up with Wildlife Rehab Center, which appears to be nation-wide. They had a telephone prompt and one was for baby squirrels. It went to voicemail and the little guy looked almost dead. I learned from an instant Google search to start with Pedialyte so I went to Walgreens to get some but just before I went into the store I received a call back from a rehabber. I had to drive to ways to get to the place and it was to a couple in the middle of a high-end trailer park. It almost was unresponsive when I got there. All it would do is open its eyes if you touched it and then they would go closed again. It was the biggest mobile home I'd been in and when I came in it said "Beware of attack squirrel" I learned the squirrel had recently died but got to be 17 years old. When I returned, there was another one, but this one was in better condition. When I got there again, the other one was in a clear plastic container, on a blanket, and the container on a heating device you can control the temperature on. He had perked up some. They said they don't regulate their temperature well, and they didn't see any reason why they wouldn't survive. They said call back in a couple days and they would give you an update on their status. She also said to check around some more because it is not uncommon for them to have 3-5. I looked everywhere and found no more. What I do know is it is a good thing they got them because I wouldn't have know enough fast enough to save them, especially the first one. I didn't know about the temperature thing. The couple were over the moon to have them, and they also have a little 8-year-old boy. I gave them $20 per squirrel for their care. They were well furred, but didn't look like their eyes had been open for that long. I don't know how they ended up on the ground or cement sidewalk. I waited as long as I dared for the mother to show up, but none did, and it got terribly critical for the first one by the time I got it to the rehab couple. The rehab couple were licensed for this and did paperwork on the squirrels. If there is a next time, I may try to help it out myself, but I'm not sure if it is legal. This time I had no time to evaluate methods on RUclips and have the first one survive, and the second one was doubtless a litter mate, and I didn't want it to get a weakened as the first.

You sir have a big heart and you are a smart guy. My son brought me two squirrels that fell out of a nest from way up high. One was bleeding out of his mouth. I didn't think he would make it. Him and his sister are now doing AMAZING a week later. They eat well and their eyes are open now. Your video helped us save them and I can't thank you enough! Two Aberts Squirrels in Arizona are thriving happily and alive instead of being eaten by feral cats or predators. Thank you! Thank you!

I literally just found a baby 🐿️ that fell from the tree in my backyard, five days ago.The eyes are not open yet but by watching this video, I now know that he,she or it...or whatever the gender is, it's about 3 weeks old about to turn 4 because when I was feeding it,the eye on one side had slightly opened for a few seconds. I named him "Simon surname Peter". My wife found a dead older 🐿️ in our front yard about 9 days ago that our cat killed and we are now wondering, if that was the mother to the baby squirrel that we are now taking care of! Because we have not seen a 🐿️ come and look for it's baby,at all. By the grace of God, the squirrel is still alive because the fall was from about 60 feet up! And he hit the would panel before he hit the ground. I thought he was dead or was going to die from the fall and impact of the fall. Glory to God! That it's still alive! I appreciate God so much for keeping it alive! Thanks for the video! I appreciate it so much!

they are playing God with every living thing and being.

Dear Spencer, thank you for the instruction. It's helping with our baby squirrel. :) One tip on your preparation of the formula. Two tips, actually. 1) things dissolve better in warm water. 2) (this one is the better way IMO and anyone who cooks knows this trick - it's how you add flour to stews to thicken them without getting clumps.) You put the 1Tbs of powdered formula into a small cup or bowl. Then, add 1/2 tsp of the electrolyte solution to it and stir it into a thick paste. Slowly add 1/2 tsp at a time and continue to stir it into the paste until the correct amount of liquid to powder ratio is reached and your paste becomes the liquid formula with many less clumps and far less mess/hassle. 1Tbs powder to 2 Tbs electrolyte as the canister suggests = 2 Tbs of formula. (For those who don't know, 2 tsp = 1 Tbs) BE SURE to add the liquid in small amounts and stir before adding more liquid or you will still end up with a clumpy goo. Hope this helps. Thanks again!

How do you recommend going about handling the squirrel so it can still survive in the wild when it’s time to release it? I feared the one I had might have become too dependent on us to survive? He was alone, no family or siblings. We took him in & fed him & handled him quite a lot (bc he loVed it)!! He would eat from our hands & every time my son & I entered the room he came running to us & would jump on us & run around in circles or perch himself on my shoulder or my head!! He often tried to hide his nuts in my hair or even in my hand or shirt or something!! It was adorable, but I became so afraid for him bc he had no healthy fear of people or cats from being with us.... It was either that or leave him to die tho, and I refused to do that!! We named him Marvin Eugene Squirrel!! Eventually he started biting me tho. Do you know that squirrels CAN bite with a pressure of around 7,000 pounds per square inch (versus humans, who can only bite at a pressure of around 500 pounds of pressure per square inch)?! He didn’t bite my fingers off or anything (although he COULD HAVE very easily), but he got my fingers twice hard enough to make me bleed pretty badly and on one of those occasions both my right index finger and thumb were so swollen and sore it hurt to even turn the key to crank my car for a while!! We continued to care for him anyway bc we loVed him so much & my son was super attached to him, but one day I woke up & the bedroom door was open & Marvin was just gone!! We haven’t seen him since. I put a squirrel feeder & a small squirrel nesting box on a tree outside the house after about a week or so. I honestly thought he was just hiding somewhere in the other part of the house from the cats probably for days. When he didn’t come out of hiding tho I knew he must have gotten out somehow?? Every day we think about him & miss him & just pray he’s okay and safe & happy somewhere!! We spent A LOT of time together, Marvin & me.... I was kind of scared of him after he bit me so bad but he never did that to my son. Anyway just thought so would share my story here. #LoVeASquirrel
