This is a story about an enchanting Gray Squirrel we call "The Funny Man". I found this squirrel when he was a newborn on my neighbor's driveway. We raised him and let him go. He still comes to visit us just about every day. Here is a short documentary about how this little soul weaved his way into our hearts.

Wow I mean........just wow. Now that's a real man. A big strong man, that has respect for all God's creatures. SO much to take away from this lovely story. What an absolutely amazing story of love, trust, companionship and testament to the sentiment "If you love something set it free. If it comes back it's yours. If it doesn't it never was". The fact that they were so unselfish and even though it was so hard for them to let him go, hearing him calling out to the other squirrels from his cage was heartbreaking. Yet seeing him curled up in his Woolen hat in his cage was a lovely moment. As was him busying himself burying his loot for later on. Good bounty to attract some lady squirrels I bet. You can see how gentle and kind his children are as well. Traits passed on from parents who have clearly loved and laughed and shared so much together. Including this bond with their little "funny man". I'm so glad that he comes back to see you all on the daily. But that he has a strength about him now.......that he's 'different.' Like him not wanting to be held as much as he used too when he was living in the house - but this is because, he is wild and he is where he is supposed to be. Yet your bond with him is always supposed to be. Thank you SO much for filming and sharing this. We all loved it. We don't have squirrels in Australia and I just love them. Loved the music too.

@@pairrynwatson4229 ahh thank you! No we don't have squirrels in Australia. We have Possums. Different from your O'possums, I think there are over 30 different species here native to Australia. The Ring tails are my favourite. They will sometimes come down to take freshly sliced tomato, banana or avocado from you with their young still on their backs. So sweet. They can be a nuisance if they set up in the roof of your home and they're nocturnal they make most of their noise while residents are trying to sleep. But if you place some nesting boxes up in the trees surrounding said property they can usually be encouraged to move out of said roof. I found squirrels to be so engaging and cheeky when I've visited the US. Like they were always running up trees and flipping themselves off the side and then sitting up as of to say "well where is my reward". Just super super clever little beings. I really really enjoyed that little film. 😀

Years ago I raised a gray squirrel my cat had brought to me. He wasn't as furred out as yours but he was still old enough so that he survived. I named him Link, wintered him over and released him in the spring. He was the sweetest, most affectionate thing, just like a cat, never bit me. He used to drape himself over my shoulder and squeak while I scratched his back ❤ ❤

Beautifully done video! I had a little female squirrel years ago. Her name was Feisty. She had fallen out of a very tall palm tree and landed in another tree that broke her fall. Her mother had been hit by a car in the street. I ended up taking her home. I loved her dearly…SWEETEST little creature! My dog and 2 cats had no problem with her either. Sadly, she got Westnile virus and didn’t survive it. I had her for 4 1/2 years. Had I known then what I know now, I would have released her back to the wild too. I just thought that since she hadn’t had a mom to teach her how to be a squirrel, that she might not survive. I couldn’t bear the thought of that so I kept her. But she ran around the house, and I made a pillow case out of a towel and she slept with me in that right on my chest. I had a bond with her that was different than my other animals. It’s hard to explain. I was devastated when I lost her. Anyone who says negative stuff about squirrels has no idea about them. So smart! And sweet and affectionate and funny! There are a lot of squirrel haters on RUclips. Really sad that they can’t appreciate something so special. Oh well…their loss. Thank you for doing this video. Reminds me of my Feisty and how much I miss her! ❤️❤️❤️

We have mostly red squirrels in Norway.
They're fun to watch jumping around in the trees. Playing "hide and seek" with themselves or a sibling.
      Bursting with energy...
Some squirrels take over empty jack daws' nests.
Or move into hollow trees once inhabited by woodpeckers.
The latter take revenge by helping themselves greedily at the bird feeding buffet...
To make sure no bird or squirrel goes hungry through the sometimes 8 months of winter here, I spend a fortune on food for them...
To avoid old or mouldy bird seeds, I buy the stuff meant for human consumption.
Like unsalted peanuts. Pine nuts. Coconut shavings.
      Dried cranberries.
Peeled walnuts, hazel nuts, and pecans.
      (All meant as salad toppings).
      Plus porridge oats. Barley.
      Wheat. Wrinkly old apples.
Lard balls. And dried worms for extra proteine....
Sometimes I suprise them with corn or boiled brown rice.
I think my wild friends actually eat better than some of my neighbours ! 😄
      Love from Norway ☃️🇳🇴

He seems to be doing so well. He's just so small he couldn't survive on his own yet. I can see this will be a fulfilling, bitter-sweet journey. Great work with The Funny Man. Good video! My wife and I rehab the little guys and gals. We have for several years now. I agree that they have and can give love to us. They are so smart and playful as well. We have had some of our females come back to the inside of our porch where we have squirrel boxes set up for releases and have their babies! During Hurricane Ian one of our gals that did this gathered up her three young adult "kids" and brought them all in our porch to ride out the hurricane. They stayed for a day then back up in the trees again. That says a lot about their intelligence, insight and instincts. We feel blessed to be able to help these little guys and gals grow and go out into the wild and live the life they were intended for. Many stick around the same as Funny Man has done. they are welcome to stay as long as they like. They definitely enrich our life.

They say most squirrels live just long enough to see the seasons. Ten years is exceptional.
Here in Raleigh hawks have taken over the city and squirrels and rabbits are definitely in danger. On campus the squirrels spend most days running about under cars terrified and the once numerous bunnies have all but disappeared.

We had a adult female grey squirrel who came back (for pecan halves) to visit four 4 seasons. Each time I would think, this wild animal has so much to deal with out there that she might not come back. Then she came back! We played with her just like she never left. Until one day, that she was missing from our routine. We try not to dwell on it, but we miss her the way that you do. We are grateful that CrookTail let us peek into her life and her offsprings as well.
    Thank you God 🙏🏻

Squirrels were popular as pets in colonial times in America. Seeing these videos shows why that would be. All domesticated animals were once wild species. But for many, becoming tame has big advantages

    Beautiful story……
Right now my husband and I are raising a baby squirrel, she was under our deck steps last Friday night, our Pomeranian was standing near the steps sniffing, well the baby thought he was her momma and came out, needless the chase started, we got the baby safe inside, I’ve been bottle feeding her and giving nuts etc to her, but we both know that day is coming soon, I’m really dreading it to 😢❤️, will be bittersweet, but we know it’s best, as we have 3 bigger fur babies as well inside, but you did give us one great idea and that was to leave her pen hanging in a tree, I pray she does come back at night to sleep in it, God Bless y’all……

This story ls truly touching. To watch your family take such good care of him when he was a baby, and to watch him grow up to be let free is heartwarming. I'm sure it was quite difficult to release Funny Man back to the wild. But, your special relationship with him truly warms my heart. All God's creatures are a gift to us and we should be stewards of all of nature. You show a good example by allowing him to be the squirrel he was intended for and this is wonderful. I wish all humanity could have the compassion and unselfishness toward your furry friend. Thank you for this video. It was a wonderful story of the best in people. 🐿💕

It's funny to see the shock of Steve Squirrel when he sees his food replenished, he looks around & calls for the other members of his family, they eat, bury, play jumping from tree to tree & even come to our kitchen windows & look in, So nice to see someone else enjoy the wild precious squirrels too.

We bought a house in Tallahassee, our backyard borders on a small piece of forest. We built a enclosed Deck which has an extra, higher fence besides the one surrounding the backyard.
We hung a bird feeder and
2 Squirrel feeders, placed a birdbath and a bigger tub with water all near and on my fence by the forrest. Mama Deer and baby hop the fence to graze. The Squirrels are funny and entertaining. Beautiful birds come to feed, saw a family of Racoons hanging around.
Absolutely LOVE it and can see it from my kitchen window or deck.

Thank you for being such good hoomans. Not many of us left. I have bonded with one of our black squirrels here, She will not let me pet her, but she does take nuts from my hand and when we first bonded she would dig in my pocket. I have vids of her on my channel. We have had to rescue a few of her babies over the past 5 years. 3 years ago we had a freak ice storm and mom boos nest was destroyed, she had 6 babies that spring. We saw her trying to stuff some of her babies who had just started exploring out of the nest 2 days before, into a birdhouse. the others were still too tiny and not strong enough to climb wet icy fences. My daughter and i went out to check around and see how she was doing and found 2 of her babies on the ground close by the tree and both appeared to be gone. Then suddenly boo showed up and ran up to her one gray baby and started licking him. We thought she was saying goodbye, she was actually trying to get us to notice him. As she ran off i noticed a very tiny movement in one finger. My daughter ran back into the house and grabbed 2 towels and we scooped them up and brought them in and started cpr and rigorous rub downs with warm towels. Sadly the black female was beyond help but after about 20 mins of continued cpr the little male made the most tiny pitiful peep noise. We named him lil peep. We only had him in the house for the day. About 6 hours later he seemed to suddenly realize he was alive and was not happy with his situation. He had had a nice long warm rest and a few snacks and he wanted mom. So we called boo to the door for a peanut, but opened the cage door and gave her her son instead. I have never seen 2 squirrels so happy to see each other. Peanut all forgotten. I am so upset with myself for not recording any of it, the reunion made me cry. But it is a happy memory i won't forget. Peep hung around for the rest of the year and grew to be one of the biggest males around. And a warning to you and your little friend He may just go one day, males roam and go to new areas for mating. It only the females who will stay in one place. I hope that does not happen with your sweet funny man. Thank you for sharing your story with the world. I wish more people were like this.People also do not realize that covid closing down the world also had a deadly effects on wildlife. For those who relied on tourists and such for survival. I had a back yard zoo the first covid lock down summer. Along with my squirrels, i also befriended a sweet raccoon who came every night to have dinner and spend hours with me and the 7 baby skunks she adored like her own babies, they never tried to spray her. Th4ey just all walked around me at my patio table a took snacks. I would reach down and pet a tail as they went by. We (dita short for bandita, Fished in the dog pool for grapes, played ball and tug and she would sit on my lap at times to eat, if the 2 possums showed up.She did not like them. she wanted very much to move into my house too, lol. every time i went in to get something, she would get the screen open and i would find her wandering around and not wanting to leave. Then the weather got cooler and i could not stay out so long, but i still put her dinner out and watched for her, then she just stopped coming. That broke my heart. My daughters named me snowwhite that summer. I have tons of vids i have yet to post with her. I just feel so sad when i think about seeing them. I did make friends with a second mom raccoon this past summer, for a short time. she even brought her 5 babies to use my backyard as a day care for a couple of days. She would crash on top of the outside bench and let them roam around and get some energy out. She and Dita were the only ones who would come and take food from me. She only came around for about a month and twice she left a baby or 2 behind. They would sit in the big tree out back and cry the rest of the night, until i guess she came back for them. There is something special and rewarding about being able to bond with wildlife and to save a life. Too many people could care less.

I have a view out my living room slide window, of two squirrels that play in the area. I have covertly started leaving roasted unsalted peanuts 🥜 and walnuts (which are already unshelled), but I put them outside in their environment in areas that they normally rummage through for food, making it is as though it's treasure they come across in their hunt, like manna from Heaven. Then I get to watch the action anonymously out my window with sheer enjoyment. ❤🐿️🥜🌰
