  • Bought a CHEAP Peugeot 206 SW 1.4 HDI,.. because it was CHEAP
    This video is an introduction into such a mundane and unexciting automobile,.. that I night because it was CHEAP.
    Found the rear radius arm bearings to be seized up after being parked up for months. Added a grease nipple and got them moving again with some persuasion
    Same process can probably be used on Peugeot 306 or Citroen ZX etc.

    Here in brazil, we swap the bearings for friction bushings that go in the space between the trailing arms and the fixed pins

    to be honest these engines are absolutely amazing. my Citroen C3 1.4 HDI 2006 returns 80 UK mpg or 3.5l/100km AVERAGE fuel consumption. No DPF, no dual mass flywheel bullshit, takes any oil.. etc. If you can, you should keep it as a daily 😎

      I was gonna flog it on but it’s turning out to be pretty useful. I was getting about 55mpg but I’m not an economical driver. I’m only getting about 45 now with the MAF unplugged. I’ve got a tuning box to try on it but I wanna get an accurate mpg figure as a baseline.

    • @MT-rc3gn
      @MT-rc3gn 11 месяцев назад

      @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos i struggle to get down to 45 MPG except momentarily in steep inclines lol, but then again i drive as a hypermiling granny. If you can you should try to find someone with a Lexia machine. that will show you all the stored fault codes. a properly dialed in one of these should return at the very least 55 or even 60 UK mpg average, unless you drive like you're on track every time you take the car out 👍

    • @MT-rc3gn
      @MT-rc3gn 11 месяцев назад

      Tbh even 60 is too low. i drove mine like i was on crack for a couple of months in winter last year and i barely got under 70 UK mpg

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  11 месяцев назад

      @@MT-rc3gn how are you calculating it? I do mainly round town and where I live is speed bumps, traffic and roadworks usually. Since I’ve had it I’ve always got 55mpg but last week only got 45. This is since unplugging my MAF, however I think it’s just a coincidence as last week the traffic was exceptionally bad with a road closed near where I live making the school run a nightmare and we had a couple of days of horrendous traffic cos of accidents. I usually get pretty much the same mpg weekly as I’m very boring and usually do the same journeys. I’ll see how I get on next week.
      P.s. unplugging the MAF made the car much more drivable and nippy, well less slow than it was.

      @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos I usually go by what the computer says since it's pretty accurate, but i have also calculated it manually with the trip meter and how much goes back into the tank. my all time best was 1380 km on about 42 liters of diesel (slightly overfilled tank) 😎 Normally the car returns 1100-1150km on 40 liters with another 100km range stated in the computer.. In winter about 950-1000km/40l (swedish winters). If your tyres arent too dry rotted you can try and inflate them to the max PSI stated on the tyre, that will improve MPGs. also accelerate & decelerate slowly and change gear as soon as possible without bogging the engine. Not sure in uk but swedish motorway speed limits are 60mph and if i stay at a calm 55mph in the slow lane with even throttle and flat ground the instantaneous meter shows 3.2l/100km (88 mpg). On 45 mph limit country roads its even possible to get below 3l/100km. Really quite fun to see how low you can press the numbers by just being gentle on the throttle. Also regarding the MAF, i can't say for sure because your 1.4HDI is the 8HX model while mine is 8HZ. there are differences for example your MAF is not the same model as the one in the 2006 C3 1.4 HDI. but i can say that i tried to unplug mine once to see what would happen to the fuel economy. i noticed nothing to be honest.. i still bought a new one and replaced the old one lol.

    This gave me bad flashbacks of changing the axle needle bearings.
    Absolute nightmare. Everything was really badly seized, much heat & sledge hammering.
    After all the bother, the car still failed mot. The stub axle on one side was pitted so the bearing still had play.
    You can't just shake the wheel, like checking a wheel bearing for play. That caught me out.
    To check for play in the axle, you grab the inner sidewall with one hand & the outer sidewall with the other. Try & 'twist' the wheel.

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  Год назад

      Yes, for play in the radius arm you’re basically trying to steer the car with the wheel by hand if that makes sense 😆

    Great idea and considering doing it, BUT the radius arm is hollow so could potentially fill it completely with grease until it reaches the bearings?

    Think I'm gonna try this on my old clunker 206,can you just clarify the drill bit size you used? (or are supposed to use?) Think you said M8x1.25 mm grease nipple should be a 6.25 mm drill bit? I'm probably stating the obvious but I'm no expert you see,
    Cheers!

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  Год назад

      It depends on the nipple size. These where 8mm thread so 6.2mm hole, but some are 10mm areola, burger nip size which would obviously need drilling bigger.
