Once you posses an ork, you can't leave and the "ork collective soul" will eat the demon over time. In fact the potency of the orkoid soul is so great that even a lost fragment of Khane, the eldar war deity, was slowly being devoured and fueling the orks. During warp travel, orks turn off the geller field equiv (or just travel without one) just for giggles and something to break up the boredom of travel. Orks are also the only race the seeds life on dead worlds. Orks can inhabit a barren asteroid and within a short span , that asteroid will start to generate an atmosphere where it can, have fungal plants and animals, etc. Orks is best. Always will be. Da pointy ears and da pinkies ain't got nuffin on da green.
@@drugtaker3283 dunno, the dark eldar are like the "happy" drunk guy at the bar drowning his fear, sorrows, etc, in hedonism. The thing they fear is still waiting for them at home. Orks, however don't die. They appear to have a singular soul that just cycles. Think of it as the warp version of their fungal reproductive cycle. They polyp off of Gork and Mork and then when they die instead of getting eaten by warp entities they just go back to Gork and Mork and get recycled. Humans are flung screaming into the warp on death, eldar of all kinds get slurped up by slannesh. Orks go wheeee! Back into the warp and merge back with da big guys. In warp terms, it's closer to being a perpetual than anything else.
I wanna make a Ork band called the "Ork Marines" a group that wanna be like the space marines and follow their big boss Da Emperor of course they don't care about the Imperium or any human, for then the space marines always find the best fight and they want some of that FOR DA EMPERORK WAAAGH!!!!!
Maybe not so much that but perhaps an Ork group that follows the emperor, begrudgingly doesn't hurt the hoomies to avoid attracting the emperors scorn, and fighting xenos threats at his command - whether it be the tyrannids such as Octavius or Chaos marines such as any wreck they loot or even perhaps their age old enemies the necrons Obeying the emperor because 1) he's obliterate them, and 2) he rapidly directs them to brutal waaghs for the good fight
Out-of-universe aesthetics wise, I feel like the Orks perfectly captured/maintained the original spirit of 40k: Badass, extremely violent, bombastic with no sense of subtlety, yet not afraid to be a little goofy while doing so. 😆
@@Nickname-hier-einfuegenpretty much. If i was an ork thinking that, i was probably and another boy tells me i'm wrong. We both know were justing inching for a fight because were bored
Orks do travel through the warp actually. And since they don't have Gellar Fields like the Imperium, the Daemon attacks are just in-flight entertainment
Basically what Tuska Demonkilla is up to, he formed a waagh that invaded Khorne's little slice of Chaos, Khorne was so into all the violence that he made a giant coliseum that just throws unending demons at the orks, and revives them when they fall. Both groups are super into it. Basically Orkish Valhalla
There is the story about an Ork Boss called Tuska Daemon Killa who did exactly that. Imagine an Ork Space Hulk Blasting Metal music and coming up To Cadia from the wrong side... They just let them into the eye of terror shrugging and for the orks it was the best party of all time ending in service to korne... one of the few real happy ends in 40k
@@jenshoffmann2881Well, they did engage Tuska's rok for a while as Cadia didn't need another threat from Ork infestation but when they realized the course of the rok to the EYE, they let them in...😂
I wonder if they actually do appease Khorne. A bunch of muscle drones with barely enough cognitive function to find something to fight, is not the same as an intelligent soul CHOOSING to fight and CHOOSING to be brave in the face of impossible odds. That is what feeds Khorne the most: Blood spilled in bravery. Orks just want to beat and get beat and they have no other choice. It's kind of like appreciating a dog for its loyalty, they have no choice, they are bound to the hand that feeds even to the point of self destruction. Its why they can't escape being forced into a life of servitude for people who avoid therapy. Cats will leave their owner, and if they can't they act insane. If a cat loves its owner, that's a compliment, if a dog loves its owner, it means the dog is alive. That's not a particularly praiseworthy accomplishment(Don't tell that person with all the baggage that their "furbaby" kissing them on the mouth with contentment, is not a reflection of their ability to love another being. It's just what they are). I'm sure Orks appease Khorne indirectly by producing a force for intelligent beings to be brave against.
Yay, Wes talking about Orcs again! *happy smile* I loved those guys back in Dawn of War when I first encountered Warhammer and they were like "yo, all our buildings got guns." and I was like "neat", then I started getting addicted to the lore and found out that the orcs are quite literally the most bizarre and awesome scifi species anyone ever thought of, being jolly in the grim dark future, thats, I wish I could turn green from envy so I could become jolly.
Of course they have potential to become "something" - that something is called a KRORK and it is what the Orks once were during the War in Heaven! So yes, Krork - bigger, meaner and a lot more powerful and intelligent than even the biggest war-bosses...probably strong enough to kill Primarchs one on one!
Krork is more or less debatable consider they’re incapable to become one even in a war infested world. There’s very little information about Krork other than orcs stems from them and that they existed. In a general setting Orcs wasn’t made to be taken seriously or even written to be something more than what they are. They exist more so to be humorous and basically a big fuck all
@@dreamingflurry2729 not probably, DEFINITELY, a *demi*-krork beat vulkan(a decent fighter), a DEMI krork, a weaker pho version of a krork, now imagine an enemy as numerous as orks, but strong enough to easily kill even the most combat capable primarch.
@@dendrienI feel like they should expand the war in heaven a little if GW ever starts drifting towards the mistake that was the end times for fantasy warhammer. As rather than screwing up the current setting why not show basically the end and beginning of the world with the war in heaven. It'd give us insight into what the full potential of all the species were and show us how far they all fell
@@JeremyTheBreadKnife i personally find the war in heaven far worse as a overall story than the end times in warhammer. i know the story is mostly a story about the Necrons. however the formula is to, copy paste rather than creative writing. pretty much a compact copy paste with the greek pantheon combined with Christianity but a more grander scale. both inconsistant as a narrative but also created more questions than answer. in short, it is a cool story but not good.
Pretty sure there to busy beating the crap out of each other to notice or they are just fine with it because they are basically in ork heaven and are probably the size of korks by now
Only if your an Ork , if your anything else they're not really that funny , especially if they're tearing your sister apart with a power claw while another one is eating your daughter( while your on the ground looking at your bisected midsection as your wife and son try hopelessly to stop the bleeding and your last thoughts are "tha Ork bolter blew me to pieces and now I'm going to die with the rest of my family"
I just want to let you know that over the past few months you have single handedly catapulted me into falling in love with this franchise. I’ve always had an idea of what warhammer was, but it was never really fleshed out because I was a bit nervous to try painting the minis, but these videos have helped me learn a lot about the lore and thats helped me to truly enjoy the stories behind the figures. Since then I’ve actually met people irl that also enjoy the hobby and helped me to enjoy it better too. I have you to thank for that
How about a video about how GW held tournaments waaaay back in the day. They used to write lore, articles, and books based on the end results of the finals.
I can't help but wonder that if an isolated Ork faction had a prolonged conflict with only the Tao or Eldar, then would the technology that the orks use began to resemble Tao or Eldar tech?
I'm no expert but it probably will. The Boyz reality bending powers come from a collective belief, and whenever they face an obstacle they just find a way to overcome it, if the Orkz find that the Eldar or Tau have some awesome weaponry, there's no way in hell they WOULDN'T replicate or steal some of it. In fact there's even a Story of a Tau Minister or something, trying to make a diplomatic relationship with the Orkz by exchanging weapons... The Orkz turned the weapons back on the Tau
In one of the newer lore bits a certain ork waaagh was so fed up with the tau 'not foightin propa' and mowing them down from range the orks decided to build guns with enough dakka to match
that one story about the Guard and Orks teaming up to fight the Tyranids was pretty cool. also, when you stop and think about it, Custodes and Space/Primaris Marines have a lot in common with Orks.
Alright Wes. I love your lore videos. It's my favorite Warhammer 40k lore. Over Majorkill, and pulling ahead of Attenborough 40k Lore. So I am making it my mission to try and convince you to cover my favorite Space Marine chapter, The Salamanders. Vulcan is literally space Black Panther, and it's so rare to see genuine compassion in the Grim Dark. Don't get my wrong, I love the Tyranids more than anything, but The Salamanders need more love. So this'll be the first time I support a channel. Love the work, keep it up. It's time my friend, "Into the fire of battle, unto the Anvil of War."
Most ork players will have a story about the most fun they’ve had in a game and it usually involves their orks messing up and doing a self inflicted catastrophe. Like that time in 7th my stompa died, blew up, and fell over my own lootas, boyz, and a truck, and killed all of them. The mekz sure got a good laugh out of it
In 3rd edition, my ork army centerpiece was a looted basilisk. This was back in the days of ordnance dice and looted vehicles had that old "big red button" rule. I had entire games where that tank did more damage to my army than my enemies did. And I laughed every single time
This is your greatest video. I was on vacation in my home state after being away for almost a decade and getting up in the morning to listen to this two times over the trip is a fond moment during that trip.
In-universe, definitely, no contest !! Considering they can reproduce like fungus indefinitely, enjoy fighting wars like it was a weekend between buddies and grow stronger after each fight they survive, there is no better way to describe it : "Da Boyz are livin' da Dreamz !!"
4:57 Just wanted to say that fungi cannot photosynthesise nor do they possess chloraphyll so they are probably not only a mix between fungi and animals but also plants too.
I have always loved the lore, but Wes really has upped my knowledge of it. I have no army, but have always liked to aesthetic and lore of the Necron, but now I'm leaning more and more in to Greenskin alley... Played them in Fantasy Battle ages ago so maybe I'm biased?
Did... did this video make me a huge Ork fan? 😮 - Also best Ork lore/theory is that everyone is still fighting because that's what Orks want. Their alleged powerful, latent psychic ability which lets them reshape reality because "That's just how they see it," (Purple boys is sneaky, red makes things go faster, etc) compels the Universe toward conflict. In the grimdark future of the 41st Millenium, there is only war, because that's exactly what the Orks want.
The orc "inventions" most impressive in my mind. Has to be the Attack moon. It basicly says to any logick or laws of physicks "go home, we do not need you". And anyways orck's are the nessesary siliness this world needs.
Orks are amazing creatures that truly were built to perfection!! Their entire existence was based around fighting for their creators (old ones) and all they do is fight for creators (gork and mork) they really have completed life ✅
This channel is a big contributor to why I got into playing 40K, and I couldn’t see myself playing any army other than the Orks! We’z da biggest and strongest, and our shootas ‘av da most dakka!
I made a comparison to how Orkz think about the experience vs the outcome. I've been playing Risk of Rain 2 with mods lately. One of them breaks progression, essentially locking you out of completing the game, so you have to skip to the next stage and just keeping fighting. I started getting into that and becoming more powerful each loop was becoming addicting. I felt. Like an Ork. Just havin fun FOITIN
Wes, Just want you to know your structure in your videos is really good. I’m watching this one for a second time because I still enjoy your presentation.. I haven’t played the tabletop for many years, but still love the genre. Happy for your well-deserved success in this😊
First and foremost, I just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE your content. You are not only highly informative, but funny and charismatic to boot, which always makes watching your videos the highlight of my week. Secondly, I am so glad I got to this video early because I wanted to ask you a question that you would hopefully see. So, with that said, could you ever do a walk-through of all your models? Whenever we get a glimpse of them, they look absolutely IMMACULATE, and I would really just like to see more because if they are anything like your videos, they will be top teir. Plus, potentially getting a glimpse at how you made that Thousand Sons Titan would be awesome. So yeah, once again, thank you for all the hard work you do in making these videos, and thank you for your time! (P.S. sorry for rambling haha)
This channel is where I've gotten 99% of my 40k knowledge and the best thing I know about the orks is there is no limit to how many orks can go on a troop transport vehicle as long as you can balance all the pieces without it falling over! 😂 maybe I'll play it one day!
Not to quibble but I just finished Dan Abnett's Double Eagle (3rd time reading, one of my favs) and Commander Oskar Viltry is one time where a human fighter finds the love of a woman and it is incredibly touching. All while the planet is facing utter destruction at the hands of a chaos cult. It would be great to have more novels from the perspective of orks but their mercurial nature makes that a real challenge to connect with as a human being. Because they fight for the sake of fighting, there isn't a greater meaning for us to connect with in their stories.
I have been a massive Ork fan for a long time, thanks in no small part to franchises like Warcraft, so I was super ready to hear what you had to say. Good or bad. I understand that while my Boyz in Green are a heck of a lot of fun, I know each faction has aspects that are pretty awesome. Do I wish the Orks could get a few more wins? Always. But I understand that they are one of the more 'Bad' aligned factions so wins for them makes the grimdarkness even darker. Though I do hope my buddy's joke suggestion becomes real. That if Yarrick did really get KIA as is stated (for now) then the Orks plan a massive rush of Terra not to krump it but hold a massive funeral service of their greatest foe, maybe get the Big E to elevate him to a Saint, before blasting back off to go ape on Angron and his for taking out Yarrick. A team up between the Lion and Ghazghkull would be both terrifying and hilarious XD
I hear you on them needing more victory's, but I would also counter with my personal favorite ork quote. *Orks voice* " Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't loose neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"
Hot take- orks aren’t fungus, they’re lichen. They’re a fungus with a semi-symbiotic relationship with internal algae structures allowing them to photosynthesize and transfer genetic data through their spores.
Hey Wes just wanted to say thank you for being one of the primary reasons I got into Warhammer 40k. Before, I was struggling to find something that I could invest myself in, but thanks to you I now have found that something I was missing.
Considering the 40k world full of wars that can turn them back into Krork and the fact that they reproduced via spores Yeah definitely better than human
@@geeljire9247 if orks become krorks once again it would mean that greenskins will dominate galaxy and claim ultimate victroy soon after which will led to their down fall and extiction from lack of fighting.

On the topic of ingenious solutions to problems, I just wanna point to the shokk attack gun. Why worry about penetrating enemy armor when you can just shoot scrap, explosives, squigs and grots straight past it by hurling them through the warp. As a bonus the squigs and grots are driven instantly insane by their exposure to the warp and come out the end even more frenzied than usual, sometimes halfway inside the body of the unfortunate crew.
Orks are the greenest and the best! Love your work wes, keep up the fantastic work . Side note: have you read the book 'lord of the night ' by Simon spurrier. Underrated night lord novel that not many people seem to talk about . Kinda continuing off this but trying to avoid spoilers. What do you think about the theory that Konrad curzes soul is in the corona knox?
Favorite Ork Tech? The gun that fires force fields. Why are the Orks the first ones to think about using indestructible energy shields as Ammo? Favorite Ork Lore? The fact that they don't need the Warp. Just get yourself a Weird Boy and have him use Da Fist of Mork, or Foot of Gork. I wonder if one of them Weird Boyz became a Boss.
Orks have been my thing since 1st Edition 40k, for the simple reason they were the most fun. There's no illusions about some shiny golden man on a throne a thousand light years away that cares about them, no outright lies from the voices of the Warp that promise one thing then twist it to suit their needs, no silly talk about "the greater good" that achieves nothing for you... you just live your best life as an Ork - you fight, you die, and have a laugh along the way. Who could ask for more?

Ork con: - no hair.
Orks DO NOT waste their time pondering their origins or their futures. Thus, their primal need for waagh needing to satiated is the primary focus of their daily lives.
I’ve heard it said that with enough time, he will not only leave the warp, but “paint it green”. I mean, he and his boyz keep their memories after each revival, making them even closer to krorks. In addition, the Beasts (not even krorks) could take on a primarch in battle. If an entire waaagh! of krorks erupted in Khorne’s domain, their is a chance they could win, or at least be released into real space.
New WH40k fan. I LOVE the orks! I am all for the shenanigans that they're about, love the goofiness about them, and definitely plan on collecting orks first
wait so what i got from the beginning of the video is that the orks are like super adaptive and influensed to/by their surroundings at birth, then what would happen if you just let orks grow up in a high tech and civilised society? wouldnt that just create the most powerful faction? like they have the strenght of orks as well as all the benifits of them but you would also have the higher level tech to boot?
I swear that Orks are the physical embodiment of a 1980s action film. Screaming, muscles, machine guns, missiles, mad max like motor vehicles. I will always love the bit of lore that they can basically make anything work if they believe in it enough, Its like a grimdark peter pan. If you think violent violent thoughts that box of pipes can made into a functional minigun to be mounted on your truck, which you painted red meaning it is automatically like an extra 3000hp and goes faster. Gun probably shoots faster too if you paint it red.
I have found that reading books from the Orkz perspective is such a great palate cleanser from the grimness of the other books based on Space Marines or other factions. The Okrz just want a good scrap, a juicy Squigg, and screaming at the top of their lungs while shooting wildly in the general direction of the enemy.
So here is my pushback: Humanity has, for giant stretches of our time on this Earth, lived in relative misery. The average person has not lived ever so well, and yet, we formed bonds, we fell in love, we prayed, and we believed in something better. Orks are a comically and unnaturally competitive race for whom strength is the only value, and combat the only goal. They do not form friendships, bonds of fellowship, or seek intimacy. They live selfish lives driven only for combat. They are somehow both incredibly self-obsessed and yet utterly focused on furthering their common goal for more carnage at the cost of any individual ork's life. But for a bit, you had me convinced there :)
In regards to the guardsmen doing their duty out of fear I would say the exception to that would be the Krieg whose Commissars literally have to stop from charging to enemy lines because they are so very happy to sacrifice themselves in order to win the battle. They're just built different.
Even being a grot isn't so bad, if you read Makari's story in ghazghkull's book, they're kinda happy to be miserable? They like watching fights, they feel a sense of belonging where they are, and while they don't live long there's some evidence they reincarnate.
Wes, I just have to say you do a splendid job at really immersing me into the universe, and your way of storytelling is my favorite by far. I love Majorkill, and I bring him up as an example, because while he tells lore in a very comedic, and summarized way, it never packs the umph for me like your words do. No one wants to be in such a galaxy, and with your videos I truly can grasp and understand WHY. I'm starting to collect Warhammer books now, and gods, it's a joy. It's because of you, I thank you so very much for your content and your passion for this hobby. Now we will share it.
So me and a friend had the discussion of if we were reincarnated into the 40k world what would we most want to be just the other day and we had such different opinions, his was "oh i would like to idk be a space marien or medic to help and save people" meanwhile me "Ork. i would have the fucking time of my life and live every day to the utmost best" then we discussed if you had to be corrupted by a chaos god what would you most want, him "i think tzeentch as magic and change etc" meanwhile me "Nurgle because i would have a loving and supportive god grandfather that constantly shouts encouregment and praise at me while giving me gifts (albeit gifts in the form of new deseases but a gift is a gift), as well as supportive and helpful daemon parents/leaders that in a battle (in my mind) go 'You got this champ! lets help grandfather with giving out gifts!' so again i would just be *living* my best life" we came to the conclusion that we had wildly different views on what we would want to do, him wanting help others etc or change stuff me "i may be here for a short time and everything is so depressing but im still gonna have the best fucking time of my life" FYI i do not have years of experience or knowledge with the 40k lore, i have slightly above average knowledge so my depictions or ideas might be completely wrong. but i also dont really gaf because i just want to have fun.
I'd have to say the lifta-dropa is one of my favorite cause it's just funny. Who doesn't wanna sling an object around with anti-gravity tech and let's face it orks is best forget all the gitz.

Maybe not so much that but perhaps an Ork group that follows the emperor, begrudgingly doesn't hurt the hoomies to avoid attracting the emperors scorn, and fighting xenos threats at his command - whether it be the tyrannids such as Octavius or Chaos marines such as any wreck they loot or even perhaps their age old enemies the necrons
Obeying the emperor because 1) he's obliterate them, and 2) he rapidly directs them to brutal waaghs for the good fight
Was 'da empra's greenest' cannon at one point or was that fan fiction
Out-of-universe aesthetics wise, I feel like the Orks perfectly captured/maintained the original spirit of 40k: Badass, extremely violent, bombastic with no sense of subtlety, yet not afraid to be a little goofy while doing so. 😆
Exactly. Winning or losing is less a priority than just having a good fight and seeing what crazy awesome thing they can bring to it.
I wonder what would happen if one particularly clever/rebellious Ork decided to question why it's "Gork and Mork" and not "Mork and Gork."

If you think about it, the Orks traveling into the Warp would actually be Heaven for them. Khorne surely would be entertained for a long time.
The Shokk Attack Gun is one of my favorite weapons in the entirety of science fiction.
Teleporting snotlings, grots or anything really inside of your enemies is hilariously brutal
It's so stupid and I love it
I always got the impression orks have more potential to become something....even if they do not do so in the end the potential is always their
Of course they have potential to become "something" - that something is called a KRORK and it is what the Orks once were during the War in Heaven!
The only thing I hate about ork lore at the moment is that Gork and Mork never krump Khorne for stealing an entire Ork Waaagh!
Pretty sure there to busy beating the crap out of each other to notice or they are just fine with it because they are basically in ork heaven and are probably the size of korks by now
That's human thinking. Gork and Mork look at this and laugh because their boys having a absolute blast
I mean Khorne did give them heaven and did right by those Orks.

That's sick, no idea they did that
I can't help but wonder that if an isolated Ork faction had a prolonged conflict with only the Tao or Eldar, then would the technology that the orks use began to resemble Tao or Eldar tech?
It’s also known that Bad moons use dakka made from tau stuff a lot

There's even an Eldar that thinks so: "We see a vibrant culture and call it crude "
I'm new to 40K, I really like Tau, Votan & Guard, but I can't help but lean toward the Orcs for my first purchase of 40K minatures.🤔🤓

Wes,
Just want you to know your structure in your videos is really good.
Orkz Orkz Orkz WAAAAAAGH

That bit where the ork is born is fascinating.
Orks DO NOT waste their time pondering their origins or their futures. Thus, their primal need for waagh needing to satiated is the primary focus of their daily lives.

One day tuska will leave the warp at a level near a krork and his followers prime orks. That would be epic

While I may not play the Orks on the tabletop, they are incredibly fun to watch or play against.
I have found that reading books from the Orkz perspective is such a great palate cleanser from the grimness of the other books based on Space Marines or other factions. The Okrz just want a good scrap, a juicy Squigg, and screaming at the top of their lungs while shooting wildly in the general direction of the enemy.
I was born a DeathSkull, and will die a DeathSkull! WAAAGGHHH!
As a wiser git than I once said, "Orkz is da best!"
19:48 i like this commissar….
Wes, I just have to say you do a splendid job at really immersing me into the universe, and your way of storytelling is my favorite by far.
